Eddie's Greatest Stand-up
Back in 1985 when my parents first got a VCR, the first tape they gave us was something a friend of theirs dubbed with Eddie Murphy Delirious, Purple Rain and the making of Thriller on it.They had no idea that 2/3 of the tape was inappropriate for children and we watched it many times before they discovered.I will always remember laughing till I cried about Aunt Bunny falling down the stairs, the ice cream song and Eddie imitating Richard Pryor while saying "Have a coke and a smile and shut the @#%* up!"

Classic Williams at his finest (and funniest)
Why Robin Williams can't get an Oscar nod for his specialty (comedy) is beyond me.He's been nominated numerous times, and actually won, for his dramatic roles, but to me Williams will always shine much brighter when making us laugh.To me, arguably his greatest role was that of Daniel Hillard, a very irresponsible married man, father of three, whose wife Miranda (Field) finally has enough and puts him out.In an attempt to see more of his children he disguises himself as Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, an elderly woman who is hired to take care of the children while their mother is at work.William's is genius as he frantically switches between Daniel and Euphegenia, trying to, through Mrs. Doubtfire, win back his wife and deter her from Stu (Bosnan), the new man in her life.Hysterical from start to finish, `Mrs. Doubtfire' is a sure fire crowd pleaser.

There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. Fun filled witchy romp!
I have loved this movie ever since my mom took me to see it in the theater when I was 6 years old. Ever since (even after I was allowed to watch actual scary halloween movies) this has been my very favorite movie to put in the DVD player, pop some popcorn and have fun.
Favorite Holloween Movie
I absolutely love the movie Hocus Pocus! It was the first Holloween movie I was ever allowed to see and remains my favorite Holloween movie ever!! I always have it in the Dvd player and always have it playing. I love the whole Salem story line. I even have a black cat I named Binx!

This '90s update of the Spencer Tracy-Elizabeth Taylor hit is a mix of the pleasant and the silly, a nice enough movie but a little too controlled to become particularly interesting. Steve Martin plays the aging patriarch who is threatened by his daughter's engagement and not-quite-willing to let her go. The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers provides Martin's character with a perhaps too-broad range of comic responsiveness to the situation, some of it gentle (a ritual game of basketball between dad and his little girl) and some of it slapstick (Martin sneaking around his prospective in-laws' house and encountering a guard dog). Martin Short turns up as a wedding coordinator--which has deliriously delicious possibilities--but his inventiveness doesn't quite strike the chord this time. Read more

Better than usual remake
Whereas many remakes of beloved films stumble and fall, this "Father of the Bride" shines in its own right.
Still adorable
Steve Martin hit his stride with this '90s remake.Of course I completely understand the melt down and the freaking out about the money. $250/ a head in '91-was a lot of money.Then I was freakng out because the little boy that played his son looks like the exact replica of the little boy in Signs--but how could that be those films were more than a decade apart.Did a quick search and found that the two actors are brothers.But they could pass for twins when they were younger.Anyway, back to the movie.This a good film about a father learning to let go of his little girl and his checkbook.

Diane Keaton has always been my favorite actress and I love every single one of her movies. But this movie I don't care for much because she's not really in it for a long. If the movie wouldn't have had Diane keaton i wouldn't have cared for it to much. That's Fronkenstein...
I first saw this movie when I was 10 years old...yeah, I know...I was probably too young to see this movie but I really didn't get the "racy" parts until I was much older...like 10 1/2...
This version is the one to buy....
If you have a widescreen TV, this is the version you must purchase. Unlike the previous "Special Edition" version, this new release is ANAMORPHIC widescreen, finally for the first time and it looks great on my new 32 inch Sony HDTV. The only downside is no sound upgrade, just MONO. The extras are the same as the previous edition. Anyway it is cheap and worth every penny for the new anamorphic transfer.
Hilarious Movie but...
I love Young Frankenstein. However, I was very disappointed when I realized that this re-release of it only had "mono" audio tracks. This is very disappointing because I would have loved to hear it in Dolby Surround. I am actually rather confused as to why they re-released it, because it has the exact same content as the previous DVD release... possibly a marketing ploy, I dunno.Let me also make clear that THE MOVIE IS A 5 STAR MOVIE BUT THE RE-RELEASE WAS THE REASON FOR THE 4 STAR RATING. Basicly, if you already have the "Special Edition" (earlier DVD release) you may as well save your money; they're exactly the same. DONT listen to that silly man " a viewer" He doesnt know a thing. You can watch this extrodinary film on DVD and reap the hearty rewards of laughter and happiness. Or you can watch a VHS and dial up the internet while you toast your snax on a fire. In other words....The dvd is far better then any old VHS. This DVD is the best. Just believe me. You will thank me later. And see Spamalot too.

A breath of fresh air.
With all the deadly serious movies about the grail out there these days it's good to once again watch a movie that treats the subject with a sense of humor.
A Newt?
One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

Romantic comedy at its best!
This charming and enjoyable movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is a must see.Julia, with her trademark charm and smile, is adorable in this film and Hugh Grant as the ackward but handsome bachelor, fall in love in Notting Hill.But before they do, a lot of amusing things happen to them.The cast is wonderful and absolutely funny.Not since "Four Weddings and a Funeral" have I seen such a great assemble cast and team.I wish Hugh Grant would make more movies like this again.In short, I highly recommend it to those who enjoy romantic comedies.

Quirky and cute but it works....
What happens when a Beverly Hills movie star walks into the quiet life of a Notting Hill bookseller? Sparks fly and it's one of those romantic comedies whereby you want to see them get passed the masks that are standing in the way. A film no fan of comedy should miss
This touching, sly, hilarious comedy with understated performances should be on DVD. Walter Matthau's transformation from a vain, self-absorbed product of inherited wealth into a caring human being is brilliantly written and played. Elaine May's klutzy, endearing, naive Henrietta is one of the loveliest of screen portrayals. This film is a true classic, under-seen and under-appreciated.

An exemplary undertaking
My predecessors in reviewing this movie have done a great job of detailing it's highlights... I cannot advance their descriptions and their accolades any farther than they have done.I will, however, add that this is one of those movies that when you see it on cable at 3 am, you will not be able to turn it off.After you watched it and failed to find the title you will canvas your friends to try to find out the name of the movie... when noone knows what you're talking about, go to your secretary who will google the actor and the story line and come up with the name of the movie and you try to find the dvd and it won't exist...then you vainly try to find the title anywhere and it comes up on vhs. BUY IT because if you don't you will certainly wish you had. I have a brand new vhs player sitting in my attic in the box so that in the future, when the vhs player is no longer available and the studio wonks refuse to put classics on dvd, I will still be able to play these movies like "New Leaf" that aren't on DVD. ... Should have been a clunker but turned out a gem
I think this is one of Goldie Hawn's/Kurt Russell's best performances.You really notice how thin/contrived the plot is but you put up with that just to see these characters.Also, Roddy McDowell, her mom, the doctor, the kids, bad Billy, and the coast guard guy (lewis??).Not to mention the workers at the sanitariam, trying to get rid of her, high fiving when someone finally comes to claim her.
A golden Goldie treat!
No matter how many times I watch this movie (and believe me, I've watched it many, many, many times) it's always enjoyable. Goldie Hawn stars as Joanna Stayton, an incrediblly rich, incredibly bored and incredibly bitchy woman with nothing left to do while her yacht is docked at a small coastal Oregon town called Elk's Cove but to hire a carpenter named Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell, gotta love him) to remodel her closet. But when the job isn't done to her satisfaction, he winds up overboard along with all his tools. He vows to get revenge on her and the opportunity presents itself when Joanne falls overboard in the middle of the night and is later discovered by a crew of Portuguese men on a garbage barge. But Joanna has amnesia and can't remember who she is. And her husband Grant is all to happy to pretend he doesn't know her and leave her in the hospital. But when Dean sees the "amnesia lady" on the news, he recognizes Joanna and hatches a plan to get revenge and get the money she owes him. But neither one expects to fall in love with the other. Overboard is a fun and funny movie that also teaches us the lesson that money doesn't buy us complete happiness. It can for you though if you buy Overboard because it's worth watching hundreds of times over. I love it! Enjoy!

I Can Watch This Over and Over and ......
Bob Wiley arrives at Dr. Marvin's office. Little does this psychologist on the verge of national recognition realize that this new patient is like human crazy glue. Bob follows Dr. Marvin and his family to their vacation home in Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire, where he endears himself to the doctor's family and simultaneously drives the doctor bananas, literally.
No one plays low key and laid back like Bill
And he does it well in this quiet side spliting comedy.Richard is the uptight, overly sure of his psychological abilities, kind of pompus shrink who just wrote a best seller (which is what psychologist's live for).Bill is the seriously afflicted nerotic Richard inherits from another doctor trying to dump him off on an unsuspecting collegue.Richard goes away with his family for a month of vacation and Bill totally freaks out, trying every way he knows how to find out were Richard went. Bill finally finds out were they are, and shows up on Richards front step.Much to Richards chagrin, Bill's childlike quirkiness endears him to Richards family, so much so, that they practically invite him to move in.This movie is not slapstick, but very low key hilarious.Enjoy!

This is one funny movie!!
Sure, Chevy Chase and Carrie Fisher have nice moments in this movie.However, it is everything that swirls around them that makes this so funny."The pearl is in the river." "And they all look alike."Granted that some of the dialog is not politically correct, but it is not mean.
The only thing I remember about this movie...
...is the scene where Carrie Fisher was wearing just her underwear. What a babe! I give the movie 5 stars just for that scene.

As Charming as A Classic Can get!
Breakfast at Tiffany's... If you haven't seen it, then you must have heard of it in some way. You have heard the title somewhere, you read about it at someplace or maybe you have heard the famous musical theme by Henry Mancini? Yes, it's hard not to have heard of this classic masterpiece in some sort of way.

Blake Edward's masterpiece isbright, funny, intelligent, and thoroughly winning, thanks to his deft direction and the singular presence of its stars.Stunningly gowned by Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn makes the part of Holly Golightly completely her own, and is so captivating, one couldn't care less how greatly the film differs from Truman Capote's much darker novella.George Peppard is her praiseworthy partner in his most memorable role.To better complement his spirited co-star, he plays Paul Varjak quietly, radiating a natural humor, pride, warmth, and grace.With astonishing blue eyes, perfect hair, cardigans, tweed jackets, and penny loafers, Paul is achingly handsome and infinitely desirable.
An amazingly beautiful, sad film
The sight of Audrey Hepburn, dressed immaculately in a black dress, wearing large black goggles, holding a danish pastry in one of her hands and a coffee in the other, looking wishfully, enchantedly into the window of Tiffany, joins forces with the extremely beautiful yet melancholy background score by Henri Mancini to set the tone of the movie. All these years later, still a fabulous film
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere magnetize the entire film and pull you into a fantasy land where dreams do come true.I understand the naysayers, but this film is not about Julia Roberts being a hooker.Obviously, some people find that horribly offensive.This movie is about love, gaining self-respect and believing in yourself (Kit . . . "take care of YOU").It's a feel good film about pursuing your dreams.Obviously, if some 14 year old decides she wants to be a hooker when she grows up so she can meet her prince charming, she needs some serious guidance.Yet I highly doubt even most 14 year old's are that stupidly literal about a film such as this.I'm 50 years old and, you know what?A LOT of my dreams HAVE come true in ways I never would have expected, including romatically.So there;0).

Great Movie about Being a Whore
This is the worst movie I have seen in many, many years.I only gave it one star because there isn't a rating for negative stars. Does anyone who likes this movie not realize that its about a prostitute? A hooker?Julia Roberts can't act first of all.Secondly, the plot is so ridiculous. A rich successful businessman picks up a streetwalker for a night paid sex, and this is romantic? What a crock of crap!!! The most ridicuous, unbelievable scene in the whole movie is the scene where jason alexander's character makes a pass at Julia Robert's character.(Who, lets not forget, walks the street to have sex with whichever person will pay her money). During this scene, the hooker character actually acts like her dignity and virtue has been assaulted.She's a HOOKER!!! What the hell is wrong with you people???!!!
The extras are 'pretty', but parts of the character development are unrealistic
The studio took a lot of time with anniversary extras for this self-described modern day 'Cinderella' film. I'm impressed with the number and quality of extras which are included inside this one release.Even with all of the technology we now have, very few movies get such extensive anniversary releases.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite holiday films. Clark, Ellen, Rusty, Audrey, and Cousin Eddie are back but this is nothing like the disapointing sequel, European Vacation (that movie was awful), this time the Griswold's decide to stay home and celebrate Christmas the good old fashioned-way. Both of their parents arrive and unexpected guest causes mayhem for The Griswold's, yikes! Cousin Eddie, played geniusly by Randy Quaid. The last hour of the film is non-stop laughs. One of the all time great romantic comedies
As romantic comedies go,"The April Fools" is one of the undiscovered treasures of the 1960s, comparable to the vanguard of all New York romantic comedies "Breakfast At Tiffany's". This film is far more simplistic (too simplistic it seems for many reviewers in 1969) and perhaps because of this it will strike more of a chord with today's audiences weary of recent ponderous comedies.
My All Time Favorite Movie
I was working in a movie theater when "The April Fools" first came out. Once the customers were seated,I had a choice of watching either this movie or the then mega hit The Graduate. I saw The Graduate just once.I watched The April Fools over 50 times.I've watched it every time it showed on TV over the past 35 years.I own it,and I'll buy the DVD when I find it.And I'll continue to watch it.
