5-0 out of 5 stars Ethel May Potter- We Never Forgot 'Er!
This is a great video that showcases the genius of Lucille Ball in her first television series, "I Love Lucy (CBS, 1951-1957)!5-0 out of 5 stars Wrapping candy, fake nose on fire, having a baby and more!
This second volume in the "Best of 'I Love Lucy'" collection begins with two of the show's classic comedy moments."Job Switching" (Episode #36, September 15, 1952), is the classic episode of "I Love Lucy" that I always show to my television classes so they know what a classic sit com looks like. Ricky is tired of the way Lucy spends money without regard for where it comes from, so the boys and girls switch places: Lucy and Ethel will get jobs and Ricky and Fred will do the household chores. One of the greatest moments in television history comes when Lucy and Ethel have to work a conveyor belt in a candy factory. Elvia Allman is the supervisor ("Let 'er roll!") and Amanda Milligan, an actual candy dipper at the Farmer's Market in Hollywood is, uh, the candy dipper. Meanwhile, Ricky is ironing stockings and making rice while Fred bakes a cake. "L.A. at Last" (Episode #114, February 7, 1955) finds Lucy and the Mertzes heading for the famous Brown Derby restaurant while Ricky heads to the movie studio to begin working on "Don Juan." Here is where Lucy has her legendary encounter with William Holden in the booth behind her. Tired of being gawked at while trying to eat, Holden decides to stare at Lucy instead, making her so nervous she end up setting her false nose on fire. To set the record straight: Lucy getting her nose on fire WAS in the script, but her decision to dunk her nose into the coffee was an AD-LIB (she was supposed to take the nose off before dunking it).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Lucy Volume 1
This tape is a great with 5 of the top 10 episodes.5-0 out of 5 stars Vitameatavegamin, Grape Stomping, Harpo Marx and more!
Volume 1 of the "Best of 'I Love Lucy'" starts off with the classic "Lucy Does a TV Commercial" (Episode #30, May 5, 1952), Ricky is set to host a TV variety show and Lucy wants to do a live commercial for (all together now) Vitameatavegamin. Although she fails to win Ricky's support after staging a mock show inside their television set, Lucy arranges to get the gig anyhow. She starts off great, but the problem is that Vitameatavegamin contains 23% alcohol and with each rehearsal Lucy gets progressively drunker and funnier. Lucille Ball considered this the best bit, and one of the hardest, she ever did.Next we have the wonderful grape vat scene from "Lucy's Italian Movie" (Episode #150, April 16, 1956). The Ricardos are in Europe when an Italian movie producer tells Lucy that he wants her in his new film, "Grapola Pungente." Finding out the title translates as "bitter grapes," Lucy takes this literally and heads for the nearest vineyard where she has a memorable encounter with Teresa Tirelli stomping grapes in a vat.So right off the start, you have TWO of the THREE funniest Lucy routines (and the Candy Factory sketch is on Volume 2)!Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I remember it like it was yesterday
I saw "A Christmas Memory" when it originally aired in the late sixties, and it made such an impression on me that it has remained, in my mind, one of the best Christmas movies ever. Between then and now it lived on only in my mind since VHS and now DVD technology are still relatively recent. But I always told everyone about this film when we shared our "best of..." lists, and made a point of searching out the original story after seeing the film. The short story itself is one of my favorites.

Editorial Review

Samantha and her fellow witches are bedeviled by Halloween in thesetwo black-and-white 25-minute episodes specially packaged for the occasion. In "The Witches Are Out," Darrin (Dick York in both episodes) is fired afterrefusing to use a stereotyped old crone witch in an ad. So Samantha andfriends spook the client with protest signs and tricks until he gladly calls off his "discriminatory" campaign. In "Trick or Treat," Endora (AgnesMoorehead) is peeved that Samantha opts to entertain one of Darrin's clients on Halloween instead of joining her at the sacred volcano. So she turns her daughter's hapless husband into a werewolf during the business get-together as punishment. Watch for a pre-Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Share the first two Halloweens with the "Bewitched" gang
Quick. Before "Roseanne" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" what television series made a point of having great Halloween episodes. Why, "Bewitched" of course.Collected on these VHS are the two Halloween episodes from the first two seasons of the series, which means we are still on the first Darrin and the shows are still in black & white:5-0 out of 5 stars true classics
All I have to say is, these two episodes are a true stand out in "classic tv". "Bewitched" is my favorite of all tv series, for I grew up with it, but just in all areas these shows make you want to say, "Ah yes, those were the days". If you like television at it's best, buy this tape...you won't be sorry.

I liked the monsters are due on maple street... It made the 50's seem so abnormal because how things are today... If you haven't seen the origanal you must see it...!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Classics
This video contains what are perhaps the two best-known and loved TWILIGHT ZONE titles, "Time Enough at Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."The former episode stars Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller named Henry Bemis.Scolded by his boss and his wife for being "a reader," Bemis retires to the bank's vault each day during his lunch hour to indulge his passion. One day while he is reading in the vault, a nuclear explosion happens and the earth is turned into a wasteland.Stumbling upon the remains of a public library, Bemis declares that now he has all the time in the world to read - but does he really?Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last" is whimsical though ultimately tragic, with similarities to both "The Obsolete Man" (also with Meredith) and "The Lonely."
4-0 out of 5 stars 2 Fine Episodes Exactly As Pictured
Time Enough At Last - A sole survivor of a nuclear war is all alone in its aftermath. First, he finds solace in books. However, after he breaks his reading glasses, he is lost.

5-0 out of 5 stars They Really Are a Screa-um!
"The Addams Family" is a great treat to watch on video. The family famous is back with all it's glory on these videos. This is one of the few ways to see the show these days since TV Land dropped it in 1998. Though it was taped in SLP form, there wasn't much difference, partly because SP and SLP/EP modes record mostly in the same condition if it's in B&W. Now, for the episodes them selves:4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
These two shows were both pretty good, though not my favorites.I enjoyed the return of Mr. Hilliard, the emergence of Kitty Kat (their pet lion), and the way the Addams family terrified one or two people who ratherdeserved it.Some good parts: Wednesday and Pugsley's scuffle with anobnoxious boy (in which they get the better of him); Morticia and Gomez'sswordplay; the feeding of the piranhas; and Morticia's beloved plantsstrangling each other.I also loved it when Gomez told Morticia not toworry that Hilliard would drain the swamps -- all politicians do exactlythe opposite of their campaign promises!Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars FEATURES GOOD ALIENS or BAD ALIENS: TAKE YOUR PICK!
This original pilot from 1964 [that never aired until almost 30 years went by] is very different from, yet very similar to, the Star Trek that we all know and love. Except for Spock as Science Officer and Majel Barrett as First Officer, the entire crew is different, yet the ship appears the same. The crew [just 203 vs. 400+], however, looks like they are a mix of 1960s beach-party extras and stuntmen. Call it an eclectic cast or maybe just thrown together, take your pick.
5-0 out of 5 stars You can see the seeds of the Star Trek phenomena
The only way to view this video is with your mind firmly locked into the historical context. When Gene Roddenberry first proposed the Star Trek series to network executives, the American television viewers were in the midst of their love affair with the western. Therefore, he described the proposed series as "wagon train to the stars." However, that is not what he gave them, and there were some objections, so a second pilot was requested. 3-0 out of 5 stars "I'll break out of this zoo somehow and get to you!"
One of the most enduring legacies on television actually had a very curious beginning with "The Cage."The first pilot for the original Star Trek series featured the U.S.S. Enterprise and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) but the iconic Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) was nowhere to be found.Instead the original captain of the famous Federation starship was none other than Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter). While Captain Pike is still remembered among the fan base, he has faded into obscurity among the general public.Yet his one moment in the spotlight was notable for setting the progressive and high-minded tone of the Kirk-led adventures that would follow.Read more

The Pilot was good. But I watched it so much that it got boring. But Peew The Photographer was boring the first time I'd watched it. But, I would think of getting it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Fantastic
In my opinion, no other spy thriller from the Cold War was better defined than that of Mission:Impossible. A great cast of characters each specialized for the government, Master of Disguise, Rollin Hand aka Martin Landau, Cinammon Carter, aka Barbara Bain and then there's Greg Morris as Barney Collier, Peter Lupas as Willie the Strong Man,Peter Graves as Jim Phelps and Steven Hill as Dan Briggs. M:I is due on DVD this September. Its about time!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Arrival of Andy Griffith from stage to Fame
If this is the product that I think it is; there is an opening monologue by Roddy McDowell explaining the origins of this television stage play version of No Time For Sargents. There is also an interview with Andy Griffith explaining how as a night club talking comic he auditioned for the Broadway stage play production and almost failed. The auditioners thought that his appearance and accent were acceptable but then, well, they just didn't know....so they asked Andy to wait in the office while a few other applicants were evaluated. In the office a secretary asked Andy what he did so in explaination he went into one of his night club monologues for her.Passers by heard the goings on and stopped their activities to watch also.Shortly the passageway was blocked with an impromptu audience. This so impressed the auditioner that Andy got the part.
5-0 out of 5 stars (Spit) Hello? (Spit) hello?
No Time for Sergeants brings back all the sights and sound that you are familiar with the military, especially the induction process. They even included the military attitudes. What makes this so funny is the proximity to reality. You have met these people in all walks of life. From Irvin S. Blanchard, who has a bad case of ROTC. To Major General Eugene Bush that unwittingly gives a eulogy to (I'm not saying). 4-0 out of 5 stars This is th stage play, not the movie
I got this VCR thinking that it was the movie with Don Knotts and Myron McCormic. It was not. It was the stage play with different support actors and recorded on video tape. I enjoyed it and it is a good companion to the movie version withMyron McCormic and Don Knotts ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Grows on You
My 2-1/2 year old was unimpressed with this at first, but "got" the concept after a couple of viewings and now asks for it every day.He was so excited when we got to actual Halloween this year, because he understood the concept of costumes and jack-o-lanterns.The songs aren't as catchy as the ones on most Sesame Street videos, but the segments with the real children really keep his attention and Caroline Rhea's mugging makes him giggle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our 2-Year-OldLOVES this!
Our daughter, who just turned two in August, absolutely loves Sesame Street. When we bought her this movie we hoped it would keep her as involved and interested as the TV show and it has far exceeded our hopes. She has watched it over and over since the beginning of October, (along with her 9 year-old sister and 10 year-old brother if you can believe that!) and she now not only sings some of the silly songs, but says some of the lines with the characters, too! 3-0 out of 5 stars My 2.5yr old loves SS but just wasn't interested in this DVD
My son loves Sesame Street and has since he was a year old. He's not Elmo-crazed but he does love Elmo along with Cookie Monster (his favorite), Ernie, the Count and Baby Bear. I was trying to stay away from Elmo says BOO! because I bought him Elmo Saves Christmas last year and he won't watch it all the way through (I think it's too much elmo and not enough of the other guys) wich is why I picked this Halloween DVD. It's got more characters in it. This DVD is basically about the rituals of Halloween and what people do on the holiday for example it's got a trip to an apple cider factory to show how they make apple cider.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
You won't be able to stop laughing. It features two cops Muldoon (quiet and easy going) and Toody (talks too much). They are best friends who are opposites. They are always getting themselves involved in unusual and hilarious situations. I own the whole 8 Vol. set and won't part with mine. Good clean humor and fun for the entire family. Volume 1 has "Who's For Swordfish? You won't belive what this pair will do for a day off to go fishing. The whole precinct is in chaos over schedule changes. "Something Nice For Sol" They can't make up their mind what to get for Sgt. Abrams 25th anniversary on the police force. When they decide, the real laughs begin. If you can only get one volume, this is a great choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Lucy and Christmas warmth : a perfect combination
"I Love Lucy" was such a wonderful series and a landmark in television history which has been in a constant state of rerun since it first premiered in the early 1950's. It was such a success because of the superb talents of the four main leads, brilliant writing, and a great care shown for how the stories of the trials and tribulations of the Ricardo's and the Mertz's were presented.5-0 out of 5 stars All "I Love Lucy" episodes celebrate 50th Anniversary.

5-0 out of 5 stars SOMEONE PLEASE PUT THIS SERIES ON DVD!!!!!!!
This is hands-down one of my all-time favorite shows. As a child growing up in the late 60's, early 70's, I watched the re-runs religiously.Being a member of a dysfunctional family with lots of abuse and violence, I wanted to be adopted by the Addams family.Unike other shows, where the characters mock each other to get laughs, the Addams clan loved and supported each other's wacky ways. They deeply loved each other and thought that whatever any one of them did was wonderful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Republic Studios! Where is the DVD for this series?
The humor in this series was much more sophisticated than The Munsters which if I'm right actually came afterwards. I wonder if the reason this hasn't come out on DVD is that it was made by Republic Studios. Republic Studios is no more and possibly the company that owns the rights isn't interested in the work necessary to restore this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Average 60's TV Family!!
Remember the Addams family ? From 1964 to 1966, an entire generation grew up watching the antics and misadventures of this mysterious, eccentric and unorthodox family, who were polar opposites to the clean-cut, "Leave It To Beaver" or "Father Knows Best" families on television in the 60's. They were based upon the cartoon sketches of artist Charles Addams in the New Yorker magazine. The cast included Jon Astin as Gomez Addams, the father and head of the family, Carolyn Jones as his wife Morticia, Lisa Loring as their daughter Wednesday and Ted Cassidy as their tall, zombi-like butler, Lurch. The jokes and gags of the family are well known and always comedic. Gomez is a high-class lawyer, of Castilian/Jewish ancestry who loves to go on Safari and who is passionately devoted to his wife Morticia. He would become aroused whenever Morticia spoke French to him. Morticia is a dark, mysterious, intelligent, artistic and classy woman with not so average values. She has raised Pugsley and Wednesday to be so secure in their peculiar ways that the normal people are the odd ones to them. This occurs in the pilot episode, in which Pugsley and Wednesday are sent to school through the admonishment of a truant officer, Mr. Hilliard. But Pugsley and Wednesday prove to be too bizarre and difficult for Mr. Hilliard to handle. Memorable is the scene in which the kids become frightened after reading the Grimm fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" and Morticia deems the story too violent because a witch is killed in a hot oven. The second episode has the Addams consulting a child therapist to check on Pugsley, who has displayed "normal" behavior- joins the Boys Scout, plays baseball, etc. The Addams were a family like no other, with the exception, of course, of the Munsters, who were also on their own tv show at the same time (1964-1966). Available at Amazon.com are several episodes of all the seasons the Addams Family were on television. Sit back and enjoy the comic stylings of this unforgettable family. The shock that this must have been to normal families of the 60's are parellel to the same way the Osbornes on MTV continue to surprise their audiences. ... Read more

The Carol Burnett show is a very hilarious show and I even liked this reunion show but what I would really love to see is for The Carol Burnett Show to pe out on DVD in complete seasons. I really enjoy this tape I felt like I was on stage with the reunion itself.Does anyone know if the show where Carol Burnett and Tim Conway laughed the whole time and never did the skit.Everyone time they looked at one another the started to laugh. It was in Black and White. If so please email me @ jvp1968@aol.com.All her old shows were great.

3-0 out of 5 stars more skit, less (...)
The Carol Burnett show is a scream.Any fan knows that. This tape, and I should have known better from the title, had way too much reuniting.I felt like a guest at a party where I was the only one who didn't know anyone else. All of the old cast sat around on the stage and talked about the skits that I wanted to see and then they would show a little segment.I wanted to see all of the skit and skip the stage show. The finale went on and on.It seemed like it went on for 2 hours.I wanted it to end so bad I was pulling my hair out.The skits featured were of the best- you will laugh-guaranteed.Just have remote in hand to fast forward through the commentary. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better episodes.
This was a great treat. Morticia Joins the Ladies League is more primarily about Morticia and just great fun. Fester's Puntured Romance is pretty funny too. Especially if you are a Fester fan and want an episode that goes further into his character. A great addition to any VHS or Addams Family collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen yet
These two TV shows were livelier and funnier than the previous ones I've bought; perhaps the series got better over time.I expected the show about a gorilla visiting the family ("Morticia Joins the Ladies'League") to be pretty hokey, but it was funny."Fester'sPunctured Romance" was great too. I love it when different characters(Addams and non-Addams) have a conversation in which they both completelymisunderstand each other. It's the kind of running joke just gets funnieras it continues and snowballs. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars best cult series
i think the bunker is a excellent episode which has a lot going for it.It is a Playdon adventure, personally my favorite writer Bain and Landau are excellent, the only thing that got me was the masks.having two on at the same time is a bit implausible.Otherwise a great episode a must-see for all mission fans!

4-0 out of 5 stars FINE EPISODE FROM SERIES THAT BROKE THE MOLD
Mission: Impossible is the TV series that broke the mold and proved that an exciting show that doesn't insult the intelligence of the audience can still be very popular. During the 1960's when MI first appeared, most action-adventure series contained a large helping of car chases, fist fights and shoot-outs. Although, in the first season's episodes, we still see some elements of these things, by the second season they had pretty much disappeared and the emphasis became on out-thinking the enemy. It even got to the point that if someone had to be "liquidated", the IMF maneuvered the bad guys into doing it themselves (another major motivation for reducing the amount of violence in the show was the climate of disorder in the United States during this period including the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr, widespread opposition to the War in Vietnam plus the rioting in the major urban areas of the US caused by the racial unrest of the time). Another factor in the success of the series is the music which has become legendary that was written or inspired by Lalo Shifrin. Many scenes consisted of Barney connecting up wires or tinkering with some mechanical device and yet, the musical background kept up the tension and prevented the scene from becoming boring. The two-part episode on this tape was written by Paul Playdon who wrote some of the best stories for the series. There are plenty of clever gadgets and escape-proof prisons plus the presence of a hired assassin from a third country whom the IMF is not in control of to keep any MI fan occupied for two hours. The only reason I gave the story only 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the use of masks (someone even wears two masks at one time!) which I find rather implausible, but it is great entertainment in any event. I hope that more episodes will become available for purchase in the future!

3-0 out of 5 stars Volume 2 of a "best of" series, i take it
This is merely a collection of some of the episodes involving our famed young vampire. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a continuation of the series from its beginning. That would be the "Dark Shadows Collector's Volume 2". Certainly this series should be recommended, but any "best of" tape should never be given volume numbers when the whole series has the same titles. Sheesh. My mistake. ... Read more
