Classic movie
I saw and enjoyed this classic George C. Scott when I was in the Navy and a motion picture operator on one of navy's submarines many years ago. I can recall being asked to run the destruct the town reel over and over by all hands. Great VHS movie but should be on DVD!

A Bewitching Comedy With Sexy Witch Veronica Lake
It's rare nowadays when you can say that you have seen a totally delightful comedy in the cinemas. That rare marriage of charming scenerio, ideally cast players, and romantic setting seems to be sadly a thing of the past which is why I always find "I Married a Witch", such enjoyable viewing. Here we have two very famous performers in dramatic veteran Fredric March, and Film Noir siren Veronica Lake playing against their usual "type" and having a field day cutting loose with this romantic screwball tale that combines sexy humour with elements of the supernatural. Based on the unfinished novel by "Topper", author Thorne Smith, "I Married a Witch", gave us a whole new image of what witches were like minus the warts and crooked nose and in much the same vein as the later legendary series "Bewitched", showed us witches who were playful and extremely sexy. Veronica Lake had I feel her most appealing role here and proved herself adept at frothy comedy and capable of far more than just looking slinky hiding behind her famous peek a boo hairstyle. Ghosts, Soldiers, and Little Girls
In England, there is a castle that belonged to the Canterville family, a family known for their cowardice. During the 1600s, one such member Sir Simon of Canterville (Charles Laughton) fled from a duel to defend his brother's honor. His father was so ashamed with his son, that he walled him up to die in the castle. Since then, he was cursed to roam about a night until a member of the family performed a brave act in his honor.

Martin and Lewis are no "Ghost Breakers"
"Scared Stiff" is a remake of a 1940s Bob Hope comedy called "The Ghost Breakers" which was directed by George Marshall, who also happened to direct this version as well.
VERY GOOD COMEDY HORROR SPOOF
Martin and Lewis teamed again in 1953 for this fun comedy horror that is somewhat of a remake of Bob Hope's Ghostbreakers.martin plays nightclub singer Larry Todd and Lewis is busboy Myron Mertz who flee a murder charge to a mysterious caribbean island inherited by wealthy heiress Mary Carroll.There's some genuinely spooky set pieces and scenes in the film although the horror element fades quickly when Dean stars singing.It's just not a great mix i guess.Lewis does well treading on ground set forth by many earlier comedy stars including the Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello and is his usual, manic, slapstick self.One only wishes there were a bit more horror than song to the film but I guess Dean had to have his requisite numbers in the movie.
A Martin and Lewis essential...
The reason why I found this particular Martin and Lewis film 100% pleasing is because it not only incorporates classic M&L antics, jokes and over-the-top characterizations of both men, it also includes a steady storyline that is easy and entertaining to follow. Although the seldom dull storyline is due to the already established original film "Ghost Breakers" the film is quite worth viewing for any M&L fan, especially since most plots of M&L films are slightly less stable. Therefore, along with such M&L films as "The Stooge" and "My Friend Irma" (which the exception of M&L not being 'headliners' in their first film), "Scared Stiff" is a M&L essential. However, for less entusiastic fans of the comedy team, the original "Ghost Breakers" release may seem to deserve more credit; personally, having not seen the original film in addition to my neverending admiration for M&L, "Scared Stiff" is a wonderful addition to my M&L video collection. ... All the reviews here, correctly, state what a terrific movie this is. But for me...just having turned 60...I confirm the absolute veracity of an early line of the movie, a voice-over by the great William Powell: "Ah, fifty. "She Came Home and Vibrated for an Hour!"
The above is the only risque line you will hear in this classic family comedy starring the one and only Don Knotts.I just watched this movie for the first time in over 30 years and this movie brought back so many memories.If you were born between 1955 and 1965, this film was probably a big part of your childhood.I was a little too young to see it when it released to theaters, but it played on local television at least once a year in the late 1960's andearly 1970's. It doesn't have much of a reputation in "film" circles but for kids of that era it's one of the period's essential films.
KNOTT'S BEST FILM!
The Ghost & Mr. Chicken has always been my favorite Don Knotts movie and probably my favorite role of the recently passed comedian.The film was made in 1966, just one year after he had left the Andy Griffith Show.The film not only works as a wonderful comedy but also an effective horror.This used to scare the heck out of me when I watched it as a kid.Knotts plays his usual, nervous twitchy self, this time as Luther Heggs a copywriter for a small-town newspaper who dreams of becoming a reporter.He gets his chance by getting to spend the night in the old, reputedly haunted, Simmons house where Mrs. Simmons was murdered and Mr. Simmons committed suicide 20 years earlier. Ed Sullivan's Oscar Moment
I don't know why Ed Sullivan didn't get more movie roles after his performance in The Singing Nun.Astonishing, simply astonishing.
Great music, fine cast.
Based on a true story, The Singing Nun tells of a nun, Debbie Reynolds, who walks a fine line between joyous praise through music and vain self-glorification as her popular songs become commercially successful.The story's pretty simple as she rises to fame, with a profound twist that gives her a wake-up call.There's a terrific supporting cast, but the main appeal is the music, my favorite being the song "Dominique," which she performs on the Ed Sullivan show (apparently based on a true-life event, with Ed Sullivan appearing in the movie to recreate it).Fortunately this melody is used extensively in the films score making for very pleasant viewing.

That mythical place where everyone gets what he/she deserves
Other reviewers have given plenty of information regarding the general shape of this film--stars, cast, vignettes.A wonderful collaboration of ten different writers who together with a cast of stars, character actors, the Hall Johnson Choir (one of the gems of the Harlem Renaissance), and probably every extra then available in Southern California trace the path of a tailcoat cursed by it's tailor.This film was released in September 1942, the same month the German 6th Army began it's advance on Stalingrad; it was, and should be, considered light entertainment.Not Frank Capra-ish, each vignette weaves into the next with the final feeling of the film leading the viewer tobelieve that people, good and bad, somehow get what they deserve.A gentle gem with a particularly wonderful performance by Edward G. Robinson.Watch it with an open mind.

Love it!!
Great News!
While Paramount Home Video has successfully marketed DVD packages of I Love Lucy, Warner Bros. Home Video is now getting into the act with a package that includes the only two feature films Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz starred in together, The Long, Long Trailer in 1954 and Forever, Darling, in 1955. A third movie, Too Many Girls, produced in 1940, stars Ball in the leading role and Arnaz in a bit part. The two reportedly met on the set of the film, fell in love, and married a few weeks afterwards

PLEASE put this hilarious classic on DVD!!
What a fantastic pairing of the classic Luci & Desi comedy team, even while "I Love Lucy" was still airing before live audiences. An initial fun point was the change of 'Lucy & Ricky' to 'Taci & Nicky'. Both my parents and I saw this aired on TV, and laughed so hard we were repeatedly wiping our tears as Taci fell out the tilted trailer into the mud, was tossed with the salad while Nicky serenely drove the pitching trailer, & "hold-your-breath" CLIFF-hanging suspense as the trailer was just inches from the precarious edge!

Remember darlings, "Life's a banquet, and most suckers are starving to death." That tag line sums up this exuberant and immensely amusing 1958 comedy that can be seen repeatedly, as it never grows stale. Rosalind Russell plays the flamboyant aunt who takes in poor, orphaned Patrick, played with sophisticated ease by Jan Handzlik. Mame, all glitter and martinis, raises her nephew in a world filled with acceptance and her oddball literati friends. Nothing is too bohemian. This unfolds in colorful episodic segments that allow us to watch Patrick grow as Mame oversees his unusual upbringing while she juggles a few spouses and an extended household. Russell, who created the title role for the stage, simply shines. She is bright and brassy, but never goes too far over the top. Peggy Cass is a comedic delight as her befuddled secretary, and Coral Browne brings class to the production as her best friend. The Only Mame for Me
I remember watching this movie as a child falling in love with Rosalind Russell from the very first time, in her role as Mame. Who doesn't want a slightly whacky, eccentric aunt? I love this version of Mame, and it's the only one I own. However, my mother prefers the Lucille Ball version, and when we decided to watch Mame together, she wants her way, and I want mine. Rosalind Russell is the only Mame as far as I am concerned, and she plays the role well. It was made for her, and for her it will always be. This is one of my favorite lines from the movie!
Autie is fantastic
This is the Best Version of Autie Mame....You will fall in love with this wonderful character....you portays...a woman that is not married and finds true love later in life..only to have it taken away from her..but, always loves and shows love to her nephew Patrick...and her dear devoted friend and house staff..this is one movie you will not want to miss...I always want to cry when I watch this....and it's my favorite movie..along with the Bishop's Wife....

No film better utilizes Audrey Hepburn's flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbor, a struggling writer and "kept" man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). As Charming as A Classic Can get!
Breakfast at Tiffany's... If you haven't seen it, then you must have heard of it in some way. You have heard the title somewhere, you read about it at someplace or maybe you have heard the famous musical theme by Henry Mancini? Yes, it's hard not to have heard of this classic masterpiece in some sort of way.

Blake Edward's masterpiece isbright, funny, intelligent, and thoroughly winning, thanks to his deft direction and the singular presence of its stars.Stunningly gowned by Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn makes the part of Holly Golightly completely her own, and is so captivating, one couldn't care less how greatly the film differs from Truman Capote's much darker novella.George Peppard is her praiseworthy partner in his most memorable role.To better complement his spirited co-star, he plays Paul Varjak quietly, radiating a natural humor, pride, warmth, and grace.With astonishing blue eyes, perfect hair, cardigans, tweed jackets, and penny loafers, Paul is achingly handsome and infinitely desirable.
An amazingly beautiful, sad film
The sight of Audrey Hepburn, dressed immaculately in a black dress, wearing large black goggles, holding a danish pastry in one of her hands and a coffee in the other, looking wishfully, enchantedly into the window of Tiffany, joins forces with the extremely beautiful yet melancholy background score by Henri Mancini to set the tone of the movie. One of the all time great romantic comedies
As romantic comedies go,"The April Fools" is one of the undiscovered treasures of the 1960s, comparable to the vanguard of all New York romantic comedies "Breakfast At Tiffany's". This film is far more simplistic (too simplistic it seems for many reviewers in 1969) and perhaps because of this it will strike more of a chord with today's audiences weary of recent ponderous comedies.
My All Time Favorite Movie
I was working in a movie theater when "The April Fools" first came out. Once the customers were seated,I had a choice of watching either this movie or the then mega hit The Graduate. I saw The Graduate just once.I watched The April Fools over 50 times.I've watched it every time it showed on TV over the past 35 years.I own it,and I'll buy the DVD when I find it.And I'll continue to watch it. A light & lovely film, but also with some hidden depths

White Beach, Okinawa
I lived on Okinawa 3 yrs. Last 2 in the US Navy and 3rd as a civilian. I feel like i've known every Okinawan characher portraid in the movie. I've located every town or village mentioned in the movie, except Tobiki.
Cute and Subversive
I've known that there was a film with the title "The Teahouse of the August Moon" for years but never had any interest in viewing it. I probably had it confused with "Sayonara", Marlon Brando's other post WWII Japan film. And there was never any reason to suspect that it was anything but a light comedy, as it was based on a stage play.
Timeless, Wonderful Comedy
I don't think anyone who hasn't lived in Japan or Okinawa can truly 'get' this film. Having lived there for 3 1/2 years in the mid-80's, courtesy of the U.S. Navy, this is one of my all-time favorite fims, ever.It truly captures the warmth and intelligence of the Japanese & Okinawan cultures.Marlon Brando is wonderful - and very believeable - as Sakini.We laugh just as hard every time we see this film. Hidden Treasure
This is a must see movie that is a true Anthony Quinn classic.And all the actors are great in this movie that is both hilarious and dramatic since it takes place during the Second World War.I, and many of my friends and family, would love to see this movie come on DVD.
