5-0 out of 5 stars Love the film -- When will we get a region 1 DVD?
I have to disagree with several of the other reviewers -- you DON'T have to be British, or female, to love this film! The comedy is hilarious, warm, and touching; and, Pauline Collins' performance is a true work of art.
5-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE US SHIRLEY ON DVD IN THE US!!!
I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. Shirley must touch a nerve with women both young & old. After I saw this movie, I wanted to go to Greece! Her reactions to the situations around her reflect the many times you want to say something, but keep your mouth shut. I will be one of the first if this one comes out on DVD here.

5-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE issue Shirley Valentine on DVD, won't you?
Millions of fans of this fabulous movie have waited impatiently for its issue on DVD for years. Why is it taking so long? What seems to be the problem? This movie is absolutely, without question, the most charming, heartwarming, fascinatiing, inspiring, humorous and inspirational movies of all time.Issuing it on DVD would be just a thrilling andmost satisying event in many, many years.Won't you PLEASE satisfy the pleas of devotees of this wonderful movie and issue it ASAP on Windescreen Stereo DVD?You won't be disappointed in the overwhelming response you get.Thank you! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars golf life as it used to be
As a former tour player now out of the game, this film captures alot of what the PGA tour used to be.The race to "Monday Qualifiers" by what we were referred to as "rabbits" was filled with alot of the shenanigans this movie portrays. I'm sure the PGA wasn't especially thrilled with the movie, but this system produced greats like Trevino, Rodriguez, and many more.Would love to see this movie out in DVD (haven't owned a VCR in years)soon! As per other reviews, B movie with great content and storyline. Would by 10 DVD's for gifts for my golfing buddies!

4-0 out of 5 stars A rememberable movie

4-0 out of 5 stars A Romantic Sleeper
Crossing Delancey tells the story of two people from different socio-economic backgrounds who meet and stumble to try to form a relationship.Izzy is a young professional who meets Sam through her Jewish grandmother's matchmaker. When Izzy learns that her "match" sells pickles she's quick to try and hide her date from her friends. She's also quick to judge.Meanwhile, Sam has wholeheartedly fallen for Izzy, oblivious to the fact that she's a little embarrassed about his job.Can she overcome her preconceived notions about the man?

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my top ten favorites
Crossing Delancey is one of the most intelligent, sweet, REAL love stories ever. Made a Peter Riegert fan of me... he makes all the "pretty boy" protagonists look shallow and plastic.I have given away two copies of the VHS version, and am rapidly wearing out the third.I can see a definite need for a DVD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must Release DVD
This movie has You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle beat, without a doubt. (While You've Got Mail was fine, Sleepless in Seattle was rather contrived, with wall-to-wall romantic music, which for me made it not at all appealing, as much as I like Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.)

This cute movie by William Dear stars John Lithgow as a family man who befriends a Sasquatch (a.k.a. Bigfoot) and brings the friendly monster's oversized, hairy self into his Seattle home. Mayhem and comedy ensue, but things take a heavier turn when a hunter (David Suchet) gets on the creature's trail. Everything hinges on the relationship between Lithgow's character and Harry (the Sasquatch), and that relationship is really quite effective and touching. Don Ameche is a hoot as an old guy who has dreamed of meeting Bigfoot all his life and finally gets the glorious chance. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I laugh just thinking about Harry and the Hendersons...
Harry and the Hendersons is such a funny movie; I hope that it comes out on dvd soon. I've rented it several times on VHS in the past, and I never picked up on the negatives that "Mother Hen" mentioned.I guess that I was too busy laughing.I do have one thing to say about "Mother Hen", though. She does have a right to express her opinion about any movie, and if she feels the way that she does about Harry and the Hendersons, then so be it.There are no doubt some others out there that would appreciate her point of view. When my son was little, I may very well have felt the same way, who knows?

5-0 out of 5 stars I just saw this on ...a cable channel
complete and un-interrupted by commericals, it was wonderful!I can't wait til it's out on DVD - I'm still holding on to my original VHS recording until I can upgrade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother Hen, get a life
This is in response to Mother Hen earlier, are you freaking kidding me.A few bad words that your kids already know and have probably uddered about you behind your back is not that big a deal. Why don't you go and buy a ranch down the street from President Bush and picket a couple of bad words in one of the great family movies in the past 20 years.Hey Mother Hen, you layed a giant "who gives a s#$t egg" on this one.

Oddball scientist Fred Z. Randall (Harland Williams) is nobody's idea of an astronaut. But he turns out to be NASA's only hope when the first manned mission to Mars comes up one man short. So it's up to Fred, who instantly rubs the ship's commander (William Sadler) and specialist (Jessica Lundy) the wrong way--but makes eerily good friends with the ship's chimp. A movie whose rude, gas-laced sense of humor will appeal to kids; adults may also get a few chuckles out of Canadian funnyman Williams, who does countless impressions and makes endless faces and funny noises. Think of him as the poor man's Jim Carrey. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You hairy little bed-stealer! This needs to be DVD-released NOW!!!
Rocket Man is another favorite of mine. Recently, UPN teased us by showing it on TV. Got my hopes up that the next time I was at Best Buy or any other DVD retailer that I would finally get my hands on this gem. But no. PLEASE IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, RELEASE THIS ON DVD! To anyone curious about viewing this movie, it's great fun and shouldn't be missed. Harland Williams is absolutely hilarious as a computer whiz who winds up getting sent on a mission to Mars. It's a Disney movie so prepare for a tidy ending as usual, but you'll be laughing the whole way through this journey, especially once they are on Mars. I don't want to give away any more and spoil it for you all, but if you think Williams is funny in Half Baked or even in his bit part as the serial killer in There's Something About Mary just to name a few, he's an absolute riot in this. For now, you'll have to rent/buy on VHS, but let's hope that this makes its way onto DVD soon!

C'mon when are these people going to wise up and release this fantastic movie on DVD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Angus: A great movie! Needs a DVD release!
"Angus" is a movie about a shy 14 year old who doesn't fit in. He is humiliated and picked on by others at school, and spends most of his time hanging out with his friend, another outsider named Troy, and his grandfather, and dreaming of being with the school's hottest cheerleader, Melissa Lefevre. One day, his dreams come true, somewhat, when he is chosen to dance with Melissa at the Winter Ball. However, the set up was planned by Melissa's boyfriend, and Angus' arch nemesis, Rick Sanford. Angus decides to finally stand up to Rick, and lets him know that he prefers to be different.

ok, so yeah. This movie is like.... awesome! I was in florida on vacation when my mother first saw it and she told me on the phone that I had to see it because all she thought while watching the movie was that it was my life. honestly, anyone who has ever been the pet whipping boy of their school should see this movie. hell, anyone wh ever bullied someone because they were different should see it, they may learn a lesson from it. from the beginning it grabs your attention and holds it all the way through the end. I really wish they would hurry up with the dvd release of it. the soundtrack is phenominal. I still get funny looks when people are looking through my cd case and find the CD with a blowup doll on it. lol. one song that I l;oved in the film, however is not one the soundtrack. for any of you looking for this song it's by peter gabriel and it's called the washing of the water. but aside from the soundtrack. 4-0 out of 5 stars SHE COULD NEVER DO ANYTHING WRONG
LUCILLE BALL LIT UP THE SCREEN IN THIS MOVIE. AT HER AGE SHE STILL MOVED AND DANCED WITH TOTAL GRACE AND BEAUTY. I LOVED SEEING HER IN THOSE BEAUTIFUL COSTUMES AND BOSOM BUDDY'SWAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SEEN. THE SEEN WHERE EVERYONE SINGS "MAME" AND SHE GLOWINGLY STRUTS AROUND MAKES ME CRY. NEVER BEFORE OR AFTER HER HAS ANY TELEVISION STAR IMPACTED SO MANY PEOPLE. I LOVE LUCY AND I WAS TIRED OF READING SO MANY BAD REVIEWS FOR THIS MOVIE WHEN I LOVED IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucille Ball was Mame, Sorry Angela
I sure loved Lucille Ball in Mame she was so talented and graceful, I don't understand why Lucy got soooo many nasty, and mean comments about her singing and dancing, ITS NOT FAIR !!! One of The reason why Lucy got panned by the critics so Bad was, their were many critics that wantedMiss Angela Lansbury to play Mame in the movie version, although Angela Lansbury originated the role on B-way in 1966, she was past over for the movie role beacuse she had no star power at that time,Don't get me wrong she's a great star but Lucy's star Shines alot brighter the angela's.In 1974 the musicals were long out of fashion and people wanted more reality in their movies, thats another factor, plus the upset critics with their loss of angela not portraying mame, I think today we should give Mame another look with a little more appreciation toward Lucille Ball and to praise not criticize. Heres my vote for Mame on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mame vs Auntie
Mame is a fantastic piece of campery, big productions, fab costumes and sets, witty one liners and Bea Arthur. Auntie Mame was one of the worst films I have ever had to sit through. Rosalind Russell shouts almost every line, in a vain attempt to steal every scene, and although it came first, it is an infinitely inferior piece of film-making when compared to the delight that is Mame. Ms Ball had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and praise be that Ms Russell didn't get the chance to turn Mame into the travesty that is Auntie. ... Read more

    ...are the regrets of maturity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just to counter all the negative reviews...the Duck is what it is.
I understand why someone who is looking for a great film would be disappointed.Howard the Duck is no Saving Private Ryan or English Patient.Thankfully not all films are or we'd be really bored. What Howard The Duck IS is entertaining. It's a guy in a duck suit...so what? It's pretty funny and refreshingly enjoyable to watch. It is a well made B-movie...so if you look at it on that level then it's a lot of fun.And it's not helpful to compare the film which is aimed at a young audience to the comic which was very adult. Two different things entirely...really, if there were enough fans of the comic (and I'm one) then there would be a new, adult version of Howard.I don't see that happening. So enjoy the film for what it is.I hope the DVD does it justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now people we need to get over it.
If nothing else this should be released on DVD as a "B-Movie cult classic" Now I'm not going to say it should have won an Oscar but for goodness sake this movie is fun if nothing else...come on it had a naked duck with nipples. That's pretty cool...You know Lucas is just making us sweat and will bust out a CG Howard before you know it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Williams at his finest (and funniest)
Why Robin Williams can't get an Oscar nod for his specialty (comedy) is beyond me.He's been nominated numerous times, and actually won, for his dramatic roles, but to me Williams will always shine much brighter when making us laugh. To me, arguably his greatest role was that of Daniel Hillard, a very irresponsible married man, father of three, whose wife Miranda (Field) finally has enough and puts him out.In an attempt to see more of his children he disguises himself as Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, an elderly woman who is hired to take care of the children while their mother is at work.William's is genius as he frantically switches between Daniel and Euphegenia, trying to, through Mrs. Doubtfire, win back his wife and deter her from Stu (Bosnan), the new man in her life.Hysterical from start to finish, `Mrs. Doubtfire' is a sure fire crowd pleaser.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Doubtfire
This movie is really good and funny. The actors did a great job. If you like comedies, you should definately check this movie out.
5-0 out of 5 stars More please!
Robin Williams should stick to making films like this and stop trying to pander to the chattering classes by making stinkers such as Good Will Hunting. Mr Williams as the calamitous Mrs Doubtfire is both hilarious and moving. ... Read more

This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success for Read more

I loved the documentaries on disc 2, but what I REALLY LIKED about the extras were the musical clips from the movies where the songs originated! I didn't know about Freed/Brown songs then, I was suprised to find out that the movie was based on all of those songs from the early talkies. Those clips just changed my life. I bought most of the movies they were excerpted from. Now I know who Eleanor Powell is, I know who Robert Taylor is, and I'm totally hooked on their films! I've seen practically all of Eleanor Powell's movies! I mostly love about the extras is the "I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin'" clip. The first time I saw it, I was just dazed, and I was wondering who the heck Robert Taylor and June Knight were. I thought that musical number was the most beautiful and most escapist and most romantic number I'd ever seen in my life. Taylor and Knight make a LOVELY looking couple. Oh, and I've also seen 2 of June Knight's few films. So I bought Broadway Melody of 1936. Now, it's my favorite movie. If you don't see that you're missin' out big time. This movie, Singin' in the Rain started movie collecting which consists of over a 100 DVDs and rare VHSs. So I just want to say that Singin' in the Rain is one of my favorite movies of all time, and thank God for it, or else I'd never have liked musicals and old movies in the first place. P.S. The song "I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' really should've been a big production musical number in Singin' in the Rain. Bet it would've turned out wonderful, because that's such a great song, maybe even better than the title tune! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

This '90s update of the Spencer Tracy-Elizabeth Taylor hit is a mix of the pleasant and the silly, a nice enough movie but a little too controlled to become particularly interesting. Steve Martin plays the aging patriarch who is threatened by his daughter's engagement and not-quite-willing to let her go. The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers provides Martin's character with a perhaps too-broad range of comic responsiveness to the situation, some of it gentle (a ritual game of basketball between dad and his little girl) and some of it slapstick (Martin sneaking around his prospective in-laws' house and encountering a guard dog). Martin Short turns up as a wedding coordinator--which has deliriously delicious possibilities--but his inventiveness doesn't quite strike the chord this time. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than usual remake
Whereas many remakes of beloved films stumble and fall, this "Father of the Bride" shines in its own right.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still adorable
Steve Martin hit his stride with this '90s remake.Of course I completely understand the melt down and the freaking out about the money. $250/ a head in '91-was a lot of money. Then I was freakng out because the little boy that played his son looks like the exact replica of the little boy in Signs--but how could that be those films were more than a decade apart.Did a quick search and found that the two actors are brothers. But they could pass for twins when they were younger.Anyway, back to the movie. This a good film about a father learning to let go of his little girl and his checkbook.

3-0 out of 5 stars not one of my favorites
Diane Keaton has always been my favorite actress and I love every single one of her movies. But this movie I don't care for much because she's not really in it for a long. If the movie wouldn't have had Diane keaton i wouldn't have cared for it to much. One of the worst movies i have ever seen with diane keaton. the second father of the bride is much better than the first and it doesn't matter which one of them you watch first.i can't tell you what the second one is about you just have to watch it yourself. ... Why isn't this on DVD yet!!!!This film has been one of my all time favorite comedies.I'll be waiting for the DVD release.Hopefully it will be soon.Martin Short is just perfect for this role. And poor Danny Glover. You could just imagine being in his character's shoes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best comedy of all time.
The editorial review by Tom Keogh couldn't be more inappropriately biased, and wrong.Don't listen to him, he was on crack at the time. This movie is one of the all time best comedies ever. And best of all, the film is not lude or gross - it is a great movie that can enjoyed by everyone.I'm trying to figure out why this movie is not on DVD?A few other good Martin Short comedies are "Clifford" and "Three Fugitives". ... The burglars were funny and goofy. But, they were a bit too crazy. Why?Because when they tripped on ice, and stepped on christmas ornaments is was too violent. That's why I only gave it three stars.
2-0 out of 5 stars Wrong DVD transfer
The movie itself is pretty good, well-organized with many distinctive and innovative plots. but the DVD transfer has serious problem. Let me tell you something, widescreen 1.85:1 is actually 1:33:1 (Black matte top and bottom makes it 1:33) If you play it on widescreen TV (not on computer), you'll probably get very small widescreen on the middle of the screen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest movie ever made
A movie demonstrates comic talent when it generates laughs during the first viewing. A movie demonstrates comic genius when you're laughing during the forty-first viewing. After watching it four times on TV and at least once a year since getting the tape in 1985, I am still holding my sides.
5-0 out of 5 stars I've gone "Cold Turkey" DVD-less long enough
A hidden gem from the early 70's, funnier by far than all the TV sitcoms and "comedy" films rleased week after week. My favorite scene among many fine ones is where town-drunk Tom Poston delivers a hiarious, whacked-out anatomy lesson describing how if he stops smoking it will inevitably lead to his head falling off. So the civic leaders convince him to leave town for a while, at least until they win their money. With all Norman Lear's Hollywood clout you'd think he'd have convinced Universal to release it on DVD by now. I think there's a big-enough niche market waiting for it to justify its release.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fond memories of this!
I'm shocked that this movie isn't more available.I was quite young when I saw it and didn't recognize most of the names that would be more familiar to me now, but I still found it to be bitingly funny satire, and there are scenes in it that I've never forgotten.Get rid of a few of the clunkers that keep getting reissued and make room for this little gem. ... DONT listen to that silly man " a viewer" He doesnt know a thing. You can watch this extrodinary film on DVD and reap the hearty rewards of laughter and happiness. Or you can watch a VHS and dial up the internet while you toast your snax on a fire. In other words....The dvd is far better then any old VHS. This DVD is the best. Just believe me. You will thank me later. And see Spamalot too.

4-0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air.
With all the deadly serious movies about the grail out there these days it's good to once again watch a movie that treats the subject with a sense of humor.
    5-0 out of 5 stars A Newt?
One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the DVD?
Seriously.I cannot believe that this movie isn't on DVD, yet! With all these people who were teens in the 80's now old enough to collect their favorite teen movies, you'd think the owners of these classic 80's teen movies would want to collect! Especially since one of the stars was recently on a reality show AND was an academy award winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars I agree about the songs..
I also loved the original end credit song "Let Your Love Flow" and have no clue why they changed it, my guess is , and this is only speculation, is that when the whole thing about Kristy McNichol "possibly being a lesbian" came around, I think that some may of taken that song out of context in thinking that with that song, it may of suggested "something" that might of happened with the girls after the thought, with the song speaking of "love" and all, I don't know, just my guess and thoughts.. who knows, BUT it was/is a great song to have in the end credits of that movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Put this out on DVD!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic comedy at its best!
This charming and enjoyable movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is a must see.Julia, with her trademark charm and smile, is adorable in this film and Hugh Grant as the ackward but handsome bachelor, fall in love in Notting Hill. But before they do, a lot of amusing things happen to them. The cast is wonderful and absolutely funny. Not since "Four Weddings and a Funeral" have I seen such a great assemble cast and team.I wish Hugh Grant would make more movies like this again. In short, I highly recommend it to those who enjoy romantic comedies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quirky and cute but it works....
What happens when a Beverly Hills movie star walks into the quiet life of a Notting Hill bookseller? Sparks fly and it's one of those romantic comedies whereby you want to see them get passed the masks that are standing in the way. Vintage Roberts and Grant... and a surprise sweet British movie on the crazy ways people fall in and out and in and out of love.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just the bonus material
