4-0 out of 5 stars Better in some segments than others....
I like the 1st, 3rd, and 4th segments better than the 2nd segment. The 1st segment is classic ab moves. The 2nd segment seems more military styled, and is very hard to do, even if you've been fit for a while. The 3rd segment consists of isometric holds....slightly difficult. The 4th segment is back stretches, which are important for your overall health. Not a bad tape overall...very effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Husband and I Still Use this (3 years later)
This was one of the first videos I bought when I began my weight loss and exercize plan. My husband (who's in great shape) and I still use it three years later. We get it out about once a week or whenever our other workoutsdon't include abs. There are four great ab workouts and we like the onethat's billed the most difficult -- and trust me (I do abs daily), it'sdifficult. We love it. I bought Abs of Steel and Buns of Steel and haveonly used them a few times. For a fun workout we always go back to DeniseAustin's ab workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Rock Hard Abs!
This is a wonderful video for getting your abs in the best shape ever!Denise Austin is a wonderful trainer, and she is fun to work out with. With the 3 different segments on toning your abs, and one on getting yourback in shape, you're bound to get a beautiful belly!I try to do one 10minute segment 5 days a week, and my abs have never looked better!Thisreally works, and it isn't too hard to do.Thank you, Denise! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout for Flexibility
This workout is only 25 minutes but very effective.I like to do it on easy days when I am sore.I also like to use it to relax me at night time when I am tense. It has a lot of special breathing technique with stretching that leaves your body feeling wonderful. After doing this workout I feel relaxed and it calms my nerves. It also has a lot of ballet inspired moves on it,like with other Jane Fonda videos. There is no jumping around on this workout, but there is alot of toning. There is a lot of toning for the arms, waist, abs ans buttocks. The toning is pretty effective. The arm moves and the buttocks tucks really start to burn. This is also a good workout for somebody who is short on time.It is very good for people who are first starting out with workout video,it might be hard to balance and get some of the moves at first but when you do it is really fun.I love this video, I alternate with other Jane Fonda Workouts and other workout tapes I use.It is a must for any workout junkie.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Exercise Video
I have used this tape on and off for years. It's always the one I choose when my back is sore, or just because I love doing it! I have great balance because of this tape.I love Jane Fonda's tapes and am buying more to replace the ones I have worn out. This one is very easy to do, even if you haven't exercised for awhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXHALE!
This is a good workout if you don't feel like jumping around on a certain day, or anything like that. The first time you do it, you'll find the arm work, or plee-a's a little frustrating, if you haven't done any of Jane's other vidoes, but as you do it more and more, you'll feel like you are acually apart of the class, because it'll get eaiser and eaiser.Read more

Editorial Review

This 1989 beginning-level, low-impact aerobic workout burns calories and helps get you fitter in just 30 minutes of easy movement. The moves are very simple and suitable for beginners. If you're intimidated by complicated choreography, you won't have any problems following Austin, who repeats the same moves many times. She does a lot of step-touch, a lot of marching in place with various arm moves, and many, many knee lifts. If you like more variety to your choreography, you'll be bored, but if you'd rather just repeat moves you know, this could be your workout. Although this is billed "low-impact," Austin puts a hop into her knee lifts and lunges. (You might want to fast-forward past the lunges that switch sides quickly if you have knee problems.) Austin talks nonstop, either cueing or cheering you on ("Beautiful!" "You got it!" "You can do it!" "Use those legs!"), which you may find motivating or annoying. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All In One
This is the best Denise tape I've tried.I wanted a strait cardio workout without grapevines, salsas and more complicated steps that frustrate me (I WILL give up). The steps are easy to follow, have a nice build up and slow down, and get your heart rate up without over doing it. As this is my 10th Denise tape, I have seen some of these moves before but this is the first time I've seen upper and lower body toning combined with aerobics simultaneously, so you there's nothing missing! If you want something simple, fun and that saves some time, this will keep you motivated!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very customizable - great for injury recovery
This tape may be a bit dated, but it is infinitely adjustable to your needs.Too basic?Add wrist and ankle weights, and you'll break a sweat anyway.Recovering from a back injury? The moves are simple enough that you can only stretch/lift/lunge as far as you feel comfortable and still get a reasonable workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit dated, but helped me heal.....
After being very ill from an auto-immunity illness, I was looking for something to ease me back into exercising.(My high intensity step tapes were too demanding.) I checked this out of the public library and was pleased with the progress I made while using it.Although my fitness level has increased, I find there are still days where this is just enough. If you're looking to prepare yourself for a marathon, this won't be enough for you... but if you want to add a non-threatening cardio video to your collection, consider this. You can usually find it reasonably priced. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very good workout
As all of Kathy's DVD, this one is done beautifullly well. I agree with the person who commented that Kathy is a professional, a very trained lady and does not deserve the extremely negative reviews I've seen on this DVD. For some reason, I've noticed that all the ladies who do latin workout DVDs, or multi-dance workouts, with latin in it, somehow they get really low star reviews, some of them quite insulting, and it just makes me wonder about the competition. I found Kathy to be very good and the two people she chose to dance next to her quite professional and pleasant.

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty good and fun
Being half Hispanic I'm quite familiar with Latin dance. Both my parents have been dancing salsa for years, the old traditional style, that is, not the new age salsa based on the Latin Hustle of the 80s.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall Toning Workout
Definitely an 80's tape as far as hairdo's & clothing. However, the toning exercises are good.I started with this before moving up to weights.I still go back to it when I feel tired.Denise uses some suprisingly simple moves that work!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much of one thing, not enough of another....
This video is somewhat difficult, even for a beginner. I'm only 20-25 lbs. overweight, and I had problems keeping up with this in some places. The arms, chest, legs, hips, abs, and butt are all worked, which is a good thing, but it was too fast and too repetitive! The abs and butt are especially boring to do, and so many repititions can cause fatigue early on. And why does Denise not show enough breathing and stretching techniques in this? Legs and buns are not the only thing that need to be stretched. She didn't show any ab or arm stretches, so the next morning, I had chest and stomach cramps from lack of proper stretching. So word of warning: after this tape, be sure to do more breathing and some stretches for the arms and abs. And work at your own pace, because she can go a little fast and a little too long for beginners.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great How-To Instructions with Most Exercises
Other reviewers have touched upon the dated fashions and rather mundane music in this video. If you can get past that, I think this is a worthwhile video to alternate with aerobic workouts. It's easy to learn, requires very little floor space, a provides a comfortable challenge.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth a dime
This is suppose to be a beginners aerobics. Do not get this. As soon as you start to break a sweat she changes the aerobics in to dances and it is hard to follow her moves and by that time you have lost your sweat trying to follow her dance moves. very unfair tape for everyone. If she would have stuck with the aerobics and not tried to add fancy dances in the tape it would have beengreat. She ruined her own tape by making it confusing trying to be a big dancer. Not worth a dime. Not user friendly. This is suppose to be a beginners aerobic tape.By the time you try and follow her dance moves you have lost your sweat and the tape is worthless.Do not waste your money on this. I will stick withThe Jane Fonda workouts. I still have not found anyone who can top her aerobics tapes. They may be hard ( depends the one you pick) but they are understandable and she never confused her workouts adding stupid dances that take away time from the work out as Denise Austin has.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you're a Denise Austin fan you'll love this one
I recently purchased three videos with exercises aimed at getting one back into shape. The other two were Startin' Simple Easy Aerobics and Fabulous Forever with Mirabai Holland. This was one of the best of the three.I haven't exercised for three years, and I am recoveing from knee surgery.I found Denise Austin's Xtralite aerobics easy on my limbs and fairly easy to follow. She is, as always, invigorating and inspiring to watch and follow. My only concern is that people who have never done aerobics might have trouble following the routines. She does not always explain the steps, and she assumes viewers know basics such as grapevine and ball-change steps. People who do not already know these things will probably feel frustrated the first few times they use the tape.Austin also adds some hops and skips to the routine, which I can not do.They are not mandatory, and I am not even sure she is aware that she does them. But Denise is Denise -- energetic, bouncy and breathless.I love her, and this tape has been a great help for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad soundtrack
Denise Austin is excellent, it is too bad we can't hear what she is saying. Because of the wind, waves crashing and too loud music she is inaudible. From other tapes I have of her, she gives good tips just when you need them, on this one it is impossible.I have to turn the audio off in order to concentrate the noise is so bad. It is too bad. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for all levels!
This tape may be from 1987 but it's functional for the future and beyond!
5-0 out of 5 stars Fanastic Weight Workout
I love this weight workout.I used to do this 14 years ago religiously, but then I quit doing it for many years.I just started using it again and it feels like I found a long lost friend. It is a great all around workout. You can get a whole body workout in 45 mins. You can't go wrong because they are always telling you the right way to execute the move.I do the first one, then the second one another day, then rewind the tape and start over again.I love the exercise for the quads where you lift and flex. When you get done with that one, you really feel it.The only thing is I don't have the ankle weights, so I just do them without.Do this tape 2-3 times a week and you will get stronger and shaplier.I LOVE it!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Would be great if slowed down 10-20%
This tape uses a lot of moves that were popular in high-impact aerobics classes back in the 80's and early 90's.I don't have a problem with that, but the tape just moves too fast. I can't execute the moves as fast as they do on the tape, at least not with anything like a full range of motion. A very short person might be able to.I was disappointed in the tape and can't really get a good workout from it.It is also weak in the pre-stretching and cooldown.

5-0 out of 5 stars True to its title!
One thing is for sure - you will sweat! Thus, you will get an excellent workout.Be warned that this is high energy, and Kari loves turns, so be careful.Don't try everything at once, and don't be afraid to leave out jumps and turns until you are more familiar with the choreography. Some days I have to hit the pause button and walk around to catch my breath, but I'm always so proud of myself when I finish. This is an older style of aerobics that you don't see much anymore, and it's a nice change from more "modern" workouts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout - probably not for beginners
This is a great cardio workout - do the entire thing and you'll be panting and sweating (which always makes me feel like I've achieved something!). Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy, fun step video...
This is a good video for those new to step aerobics, or those more experienced who like simple choreography. It is filmed at the Monte Alban archaeological site in Oaxaca, Mexico, very neat scenery.Donna is joined by 2 fellow exercisers, she leads you through a brief warmup then a simple step routine broken down into 6 sequences/combinations.The routine is easy to follow, you will see basic moves such as basic steps, knee lifts, repeaters, straddles, over the tops etc.The name of some of these steps will appear at the bottom of the screen. After the step work you will cool down and go into some ab work. There you will see visuals on how not to do some of the ab work, which is helpful.
1-0 out of 5 stars Annoying
I honestly tried to like this one but I ended up hating this one too.I'm just not a fan of her videos. She's too perky for me. I felt like throwing a shoe at the TV screen every time she said "Pump it up, Pump it up!" or "Wooooooooo!"Nonetheless, I still find her fitness tips informative because she a respected fitness professional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Donna Richardson Fan, VA
This is the best step workout I have ever owned.I am trying to get another that compares, but I still haven't found it.Donna has a great way of keeping you motivated by using cool moves on the step.My favorite aspect of this tape is that you use the step both horizontally and vertically.Donna's ab workout is also the most effective I have ever seen. This workout makes me feel so happy when I complete it.Thanks Donna, I want to see more just like this one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All In One
This video takes care of everything in one workout! The cardio dance routine is much more fun than just step aerobics, the toning hits all the major muscle groups and the stretching makes it all worth it.I have 8 Denise tapes I like, but couldn't figure out which one to do when, but now with Fit and Fabulous, I'm all set.I love the fact that there is no bouncing back and forth between cardio, toning and stretching-you do the first for a solid 20 minutes, the second for 15 and the last for 10. I love everything Denise does but if you want one solution to all your fitness needs, this is it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, give it a try...
I almost gave this 3 stars, but since Denise's book "Lose That Last 10 Pounds" is like a bible to me, I had to give it 4 stars. If you want a great exercise and diet guide, get "Lose", it is fabulous. Denise on video, at least this one -- my first, is a different story entirely. The moves are a bit simple and repetitive, but she has so much energy you can't help but have fun doing it, and the toning and stretching parts are challenging. You will feel relaxed after them too. The music and "Price is Right"-looking set are what get a bit silly. I know that sounds petty, but I think she could have done something a bit less corny. And, at times you can't hear her cues, even when she seems to be screaming over the music. Overall, not bad. I did this today and it was fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars better for some ages than others
Fit & Fabulous at Any Age is a challenging 45-minute workout. For a person in their twenties, it is probably moderate. But for me, a 50 year-old with a bad knee, it's difficult.I love Denise Austin, and I intend to keep using the tape, but people over 40 should know that the aerobics routine has high-impact moves in it.The floor work (which is great) involves lots of moves from knees-to-the-floor positions, which I have to modify.Nonetheless, Austin's familiar pep keeps one interested and happy to follow along, even if they can't do all the moves.I recommend the tape -- but with caution for people my age. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent stretching video
I've been using this video every night before bed for about three weeks. The first time I tried it, I felt as if my shoulders had dropped about a foot from the release of tension.I have never been a naturally flexible person, so I have been surprised and pleased at how much of a difference I can see already, plus I am always nice and relaxed when I ooze off to bed.5-0 out of 5 stars Stretching for anybody

Editorial Review

"Burn that butter!" demands Denise Austin. Austin, looking tanned and trim in a one-piece swimsuit, works out on the beach, with an ocean scene behind her. This is a true beginner's workout, with few moves and plenty of opportunities to catch your breath. The 5-minute warm-up is simple, with lots of low kicks and some stretches. Next is a 20-minute aerobic set, all easy low-impact moves, repeated many times. If you're brand new to exercise and you're fearful of choreography, this video will make it easy to start moving. The first moves are extremely simple, just walking, tapping, and kicking. Then Austin starts adding a few dancier moves, such as the grapevine, mambo, cha-cha, and box step. When she introduces the few moves that you won't catch right away, she unfortunately doesn't slow them down or describe what the feet do. She repeats each move enough that you'll get it with some practice, though. At the end is a 5-minute cool-down with standing stretches. If you like variety in your choreography, this video won't hold your interest, but if you're happy repeating moves that you've learned, this might be a good one to help you get active. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Short blast-off
Being a Richard Simmons fan for the past 20 years, I was a little surprised that this video was only 30 minutes. The workout did nothing for my upper body and there were a lot of steps that will take time to learn. The routine is familiar, so if you are new to Richard, you will have some problems keeping up.Of all of my videos, this is my least favorite.STILL, Richard makes you smile and the exercise is painless and entertaining. His first are the best, though!

As in his other videos, he hardly cues any of the moves, so you'd have to decide if you're ok with just following along a few times before picking up all the moves. This video is more vigorous then some of his others, I definitly worked up a sweat!I thought it was alot of fun, there were times when I couldn't stop smiling and actually LOL when we do the "fast runs" in Maniac and when we "honk" in Freeway of Love.4-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners!
I started using Richard Simmons videos years ago because I saw people like me, overweight, doing the moves. It was motivating because I figured if they could do it (some bigger than me) then I should be able to as well.I like this video. The music is my era, but if you have never done much cardio, this isn't the place the start. You definitely don't get much instruction, as was stated in another review, and the pace is much quicker than in some of his previous videos. One thing I like about all the Blast Off videos I've seen is that you often feel more like you're dancing than doing aerobics, so it's much more fun, and anything that can make working out fun gets a definite nod from me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Info stands test of time
Since this video came out on PBS, I have included it in my college teaching of anatomy & physiology--so many times that it finally wore out! What a simple and easy way to learn about the connection between exercise and its effect on FAT. Explains not only which exercise is best, but why. Bailey's humor is easy and appealing. I am buying another copy to show to the high school students I teach now. If you teach, it can be an invaluable teaching tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covert Tells It Like It Is!
This video is extremely informative as he explains all the ups and downs of weight loss and weight gain; he shows you how and why they occur and what you can do about it once and for all.Forget the fad diets you're just wasting your money; listen to someone who can truly help you for a change.I've enjoyed this video for the last 3 years and I can't say enough about this wonderful man who has changed my life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful!
This is probably the best and most informative lecture on weight loss I've ever seen. If you're tired of dieting fads and want to know the truth about how your body processes food and stores fat(and more importantly, how toeffectively burn that fat),this is the video to own. It's informative andreally entertaining. The truth shall set you free! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good workout, but not as fun as originals
This is a tough, sweaty workout, and a lot of fun. However, the enthusiasm that made the originals so motivating and engaging seems to have disappeared.Blanks is still his outgoing self, but his disciples aren't near as energetic as those from the original vhs set.Nobody answers with screams or counts except for that poor girl with the perm and the awesome abs, so she comes off as annoying because she's the only one getting into it.If I were the director, I would have ordered a reshoot and given them all some RedBull. Also, I think the workout was a bit easier, probably as a result of the complaints of health professionals that some of his original workouts were not so good on the joints (if people didn't warm up or follow the instructional video properly). All in all, it was a fun variation, but I'm going to find a vhs player so that I can do the old tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! Had me feeling fit in about 2 weeks.
First of all i did not get fat by eating.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hardcore, intense, fun!
I originally purchased the Tae Bo Live series on VHS several years ago, and I loved it so much that I wore the tapes out, and thus I began my search for the equivalent series on DVD.

Editorial Review

"Toning is just tightening up the body you already have. Sculpting means changing your shape, creating the body you wish you had," says Kathy Smith. You can transform your body, she promises, with a body-sculpting program using a "low-rep overload": forcing the muscles to do more than they're used to by using a high-enough intensity and difficult-enough exercises. This program sculpts the lower-body muscles with a variety of moves such as squats, pelvic tilts, glute sweeps, leg lifts, lunges, and calf raises, sometimes using ankle weights. Always the meticulous instructor, Smith describes the muscles before working them and gives thorough and clear instructions for doing each move correctly. If you're used to working out with weights or machines, this 40-minute program may not be intense enough for you--you can add weights to some but not to all of the exercises. If you're a beginner or intermediate, this routine will burn your buns, quads, hamstrings, and calves. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Strength Training
Okay, I'll admit it. The first time I did this tape, I didn't like it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very effective
I was sore in all the right places with this one! Each exercise is explained up close and in detail before you go through the reps. And the reps are not done so fast that you fall out of alignment like some other videos I've tried. The video works every muscle waist down and Kathy Smith explains as you go along so you can concentrate on the muscle you are trying to work. I could still feel the burn the next day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Viewer from Nebraska
Kathy Smith is a great instructor and I enjoy all of her videos (her step workout is still the best exercise tape ever). This tape contains excellent exercises for the lower body that really help shape and tone.Kathy also includes easy-to-follow directions and demonstrations on how to do the exercises correctly.Unfortunately, this video, like so many other workout tapes, contains a few very annoying flaws.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD!
I already own and have progressed through Leslie Sansone's 1,2, and 3 mile walks. This DVD is a little more intense, but you can also follow a lower impact routine while working up to the 2 1/2 mile walk/jog. I was not disappointed, have enjoyed all her walks and would recommend them to anyone!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars walk and jog
This is a great video! It really gets your heart pumping and if you don't want to jog, you can march in place. The workout goes by fast and before you know it your doing your cool down. I like Leslie a lot and hope to own all her tapes some day. She is so easy to follow, nothing fancy or hard but very good workouts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo Advanced Live, Vol. 3
I've tried lots of Tae Bo tapes. My favorites are the advanced Get Ripped series which I use about 4 days a week. The Advanced Live, Vol.3, is very good, maybe a little less intense.I like the music on it too.And as always, Billy Blanks is very inspirational.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST TAEBO I'VE TRIED
This is the best Taebo workout I've tried yet! I've done several of the Advanced and Live series as well as Cardio and this has surpassed them all in terms of difficulty and overall conditioning. It ends with an awesome leg workout that really burns! AWESOME!

5-0 out of 5 stars You drip with sweat!
I can't believe that this tape has not been reviewed yet. This is an awesome workout!By the end of the workout, I was literally pouring with sweat.I usually run 5 miles/day and was surprised to find myself completely winded after this!Definitely buy it (if you can find it).Totally intense and worth it for those of us who are hard-core about staying in shape. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Children's exercise video
This video is NOT very good for kids. The movements are very similar, if not the exact same as the adult Tae-Bo video. Kids are kids and they need to be treated & respected as kids. Sure this video has children doing (attempting) to do the movements, but it is not at all children oriented. My families personal favorite is Kick to Get Fit Jr. - For Kids, Rich Grogan realizes that kids are kids, and should be treated accordingly.
1-0 out of 5 stars More frustrating than motivating
There isn't a lot of instruction in this video, so unless kids come to it with a working knowledge of kickboxing, they're not going to benefit. The moves aren't explained, which is essential to prevent injury, and Blanks doesn't cue well, so it's difficult to keep up. The nine year old in our house hates this video and finds it frustrating to try and keep up.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I thought it should be
This video was a little disappointing. It really didn't appear to me to be kid friendly. Billy does a good job with the adult Tae-Bo, but he didn't seem to have it with the kids. Besides I think most of the movements were the same for the kid's Tae-Bo as they were for the adult Tae-Bo. I didn't care for this, I thought he could have been more creative. In my opinion Billy should stick to adult exercise videos. If you want a good kid's exercise video, check out Kick to Get Fit Jr. For Kids, Rich Grogan shows what creativity is all about. ...
