Faithful to the original!
Our 7th grade literature book has Kipling's original story "Rikki-tikki-tavi" in it. The students enjoy the story and I like showing the video after they have studied it. We discuss portrayal of Rikki (pics in the text don't show mongooses as quite so adorable as the animated Rikki), as well as of Nag and Nagaina. This video is so particularly useful because it is faithful to the original story, not changing endings or characters or events in any significant way. Well worth having!

Gives a good understanding of the tragedy and the events leading up to it.
The Jonestown tragedy had previously been made into the exploitation film "Guyana - Crime of the Century". However, this TV production, with a running time of about three hours gives a betterunderstanding of how it could happen. The story starts when Jim Jones is a child, being indoctrinated by a Christian fundamentalist friend. He starts the integrated People's Temple Church after discovering how racist the established churches in San Francisco are. He really wants to do something good for the community and he does, but power corrupts and the church turns into more of a money making cult and Jones turns into a cruel leader. His drug use and paranoia doesn't make things better. After moving to Guyana, Jones has complete control over his folloers, and with him as a leader, Jonestown is headed for destruction.

Entertaining, but highly inaccurate
Powers Boothe, while obviously talented and provided a strong character, he did not capture the real Jim Jones in any sense.This movie is so full of inaccuracies that it is not worth viewing to obtain any true information regarding the Peoples Temple movement. I would recommend some of the documentaries such as Purple Haze or the A & E Biography of Jim Jones-Journey into Madness.I found this motion picture misleading and almost total fiction as I know many, many family members and survivors of Peoples Temple and have written/researched Peoples Temple extensively. ... THIS MOVIE KICKS!!
Well, i figured it would be much eaiser to use the kids reviw-less time spent, more wrighting! A message to everyone who has not seen this movie - Your missing out on a classic. The move is about a girl named carly beth ( Wich in itself is creepy) who is allways getting picked on. Chuck and Steve,two classmates, are allways playing jokes on her, trying to scare her. Which by the way allways works. Carly Beth Wants to get eternal revenge on them for thier crule tricks, so, she goes out to find a scary mask. One day she stumbles into a novelty shop and basicly steals a mask. By the way, allthough this movie was made from smaller childeren, I found the mask scary. The artsits did a great job. It really looks real! Im a teenager and i was scared! Well, slightly anyhow. The rest of the plot developes into a halloween night of revenge and the creepy thruth about the mask at the end.

Imitation of Laff
A lot of people love this movie and so do I--but probably not for the same reason. Not for nothing was this the last gasp of the Ross Hunter tearjerkers in the "Imitation of Life"/"Back Street" mode. By the mid-Sixties, this type of hokum was far more comic than melodramatic--just look at the ridiculous casting, which includes a 40-something Lana Turner (who'd just played Sandra Dee's mother/stepmother in her last few pictures) as a young bride. . . having her first child! Surrounding her with inappropriate actors like bland John Forstyhe (as her middle-aged ambitious "young" husband) and veteran Constance Bennett (who somehow looks more like Lana's younger sister than her mother-in-law) didn't help realism. Cheesy production values and anacronisms (all the women are dressed in the height of Sixties middlebrow fashions--in scenes taking place thirty years earlier!) just add to the fun. A real howl, especially when an Oscar-hungry Turner goes to pot in the final reels. You'll cry alright--with laughter.

One of the Greats!
If you're looking for a rainy afternoon or late night tearjerker, bursting at the seams with impeccable style, glamour and delicious disaster, this is your film. Only Lana Turner can deliver such wistful heartbreak in the finest gowns and jewels one instant, and next be the tragic victim of misfortune, suffering as only those who fall from on high can know.To call it melodrama would be an insult, this is classic cinema, with Hollywood royalty.

Double Double Toil and Trouble

Big Disappointment!
This video is poorly made. I am a daycare provider and I was excited when I saw this video came out. I brought and watched it first without the kids. I thought it was kinda weird. It has a LOT of filler than has nothing to do with potty training. Which would have been ok expect it's BORING. One spot is about were toilet paper comes from. I don't know any 2 or 3 yr old who cares. The potty training songs are not cute or catchy. There are some parts of this video that can gives kids bad ideas such as putting their hands down their pants, pouring milk and not holding the cup, and playing with toilet paper. There also was a LONG argument between Elmo and Prairie Dawn that was useless. I really discouragemy kids from having arguments. This video seem to be made for older kids than those who need to be potty trained. I have let my daycare kids watch this video. They are bored during the spots I was bored during and are not excited during the rest of the video. It's Potty Time ~ Duke Family Series is a much better video. My favourite of Blue's Clues videos so far
My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed that she had pneumonia and she was coughing and could hardly talk. So I bought her this video in order to return her speech. I have milliards of videos and this is the best video I've ever bought. Steve, Magenta and all Blue's friends have helped my daughter in order to return her speech.

Johny Depp eat your heart out
This is a great pirate film. Based on a great novel. Though it lacks a love interest it is none the less a fine story. Superbly acted. Heston really did a great job. Superbly costumed. Excellent sets. Beutiful scenery.

NOT a good choice
For a video that is intended to be educational for very young children, this is the worst!My primary complaint is the serious speech impediment of the main character, Baby Bear.How does this help children learn to speak properly??In addition, his attitude is terrible.Finally, some of the animation (the letter "F" faces) is scary for young children.My daughter (who is about to turn 2) has several of the Sesame Street videos and this is the only one that I absolutely would NOT recommend.

My two girls love to watch it all day over & over agan LOL. My girls are 3 & 1 and my 3 year with in the first two weeks she is starting to say the letters of the Alphabet along with the DVD. This is a must for kids early development.
Speech impediment of main character is an issue
OK, on the good side, this video contains all the favorite Sesame Street characters; is fairly long; has puppets, cartoons, animals, music, and some celebrity cameos; and most importantly, teaches kids the alphabet in a fun way. My 4 children have enjoyed it. However, one big issue with this video is the speech of the main character, Baby Bear. Sesame Street has always used the most ordinary looking children (not model-types) and has made its muppets with varying character traits, apparently, in an effort to show children that people come in all shapes and sizes - very "PC" and this was true even in the 70's before being "PC" was even defined as such. Having an instructional video with a speech-impaired puppet, though, is problematic. Forget trying to show kids that "Oh, some children speak like that and so that's part of the real world and it's OK". No. This is an educational video and I'm surprised and annoyed that this bear seems to say every possible word there is with a mispronouned "R", or as he says "aww" (rhymes with raw-ooo). So everytime this video is watched, my 2 year old thinks that it's correct to say "Beawwww" instead of Bear, "lettewwws" instead of letters, "twide" insted of tried, etc. Besides the educational shortcomings, the Awwwws begin to seriously grate on my nerves. If you can live with the fact that a main character in serious need of speech therapy is teaching your kids how to speak, then you may find this video enjoyable. ... Read more

This movie brings the novel Jane Austen wrote to life brilliantly!
I have read Jane Austen's novel called "Pride and Prejudice" many times, and when I saw that a movie version of it would be on television, I didn't have much hope that it would be a faithful rendering of the book. But when I watched the movie on television, it matched Jane Austen's novel, word for word. It was a masterful production, and the actors chosen to portray the characters were perfect in the roles they played. I knew I had to own a copy of this beautiful movie! (I had seen a shorter movie of "Pride and Prejudice" on television, and it bore very little resemblence to the novel written by Jane Austen.) I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves novels written by Jane Austen.

closest to the book
I loved this version, it was the closest to the book of all the versions i have seen, including the 2005 one.Jennifer Ehle also to me is the most authentic Elizabeth of them all, and I would say overall the rest of the cast match the books characters more closely, with maybe Mr. Bennet being a little more humorous in this version than the book.I'm not sure about fashions in that time period, but I have a feeling it was the most authentic as far as fashion goes.For example, I think most women at that time period and of that class level and agewould never be seen in public with their hair down, it would always be up, but in the 2005 version Elizabeth goes to Meryton out in public with her hair down.Also, it was the most authentic as far as language goes, in the 2005 version phrases/passages were changed for a modern audience to understand it better, but I prefer it spoken as it is in the book.Jennifer Ehle and Susannah Harker meet the maturity aspect of the women in the book as opposed to other versions where they are portrayed as mentally much younger and naive, and sometimes even giddy.I would have to say colin Firth is my favorite Darcy too, even though I had no problem with the guy in the 2005 version. I've also seen a 1980's version, and I think something from the 1970's, as well as the old 1940's version, so I've seen a few.

I love this movie today as much as I loved it when I was 10....
I saw this movie for the first time when I was something like 10 years old, and immediately fell in love with Anne Shirley. I have now read everything by L.M. Montgomery that I can get my hands on, and am as big a fan as ever. This movie is a beautiful version of a beautiful book.
The Way things should be
"Anne of Green Gables" shows how a combination of love, honesty, hard work, tolerance and integrity is the perfect mix for bringing out the best from the potential in anyone, even in a non-traditional family. It's an incredibly refreshing break from today's society, where lying and manipulation have become almost a norm in much of the world we know.

Timeless Classic
All the great reviews written previously say it all - Anne of Green Gables the movie is a timeless classic of the classic novel. I've been watching this movie since I've been a child, and I still watch it as an adult. A movie like this doesn't need "special features" for it to be attractive as a DVD(Although the commentary is great!). Loved the movie,but how much longer for the DVD?
Despite being a made for TV flick, this is my fav Little Big Horn movie.I don't know why it takes what feels like forever to reprint VHS versions to DVD whith all the high-tech out there, but like Zulu Dawn, another of my favorite war flicks, it seems that the conversion of celluloid to digital is as slow as molasses in January (that's January in Norther Virginia, and baby, it get's cold here!).I found the acting of all the characters excellent, the storyline, wonderful, the action super, and the perspective from both sides, the red man and the white man, excellent, and the atmosphere convincing, although there is not much grit to the era in the movie.Just stop farting around and get me a DVD version and make me a very happy fan.

"son of the morning star" is a true epic
this is t.v.'s take at the boxoffic and oscar power of "dances with wolves" and it is really the best thing t.v. has done next to "lonesome dove". gary cole is just perfect as the bold,ego manic, loving husband, and a commanding officer no one would want. rodney grant of "dances with wolves" is also great as crazy horse and the battle is the center piece of this fine look at the little big horn from both sides and really brings home the sadness of what followed for both sides. this belongs on dvd, i hope it is soon. but if a tape is what it takes to see this movie then buy it you will love it ... My three year old son thinks it is too scary
Well, this is cute.I like it.But my three year old son (who normally likes Elmo and who normally like Halloween) is scared to watch it.He doesn't want me to play it--he asks for Dora's Halloween instead.

Wonderful Christmas movie
I have worn out my VHS tape I copied off tv many years ago of this Christmas classic.I will be thrilled if they ever release it and the other Addie Mills specials on DVD. I always looked forward to seeing them when they aired.It was nice seeing the review from Lisa Lucas (Addie Mills).Nice to hear she enjoyed making these movies and knows how much pleasure she brought us all. She and Mildred Natwick and Jason Robards were so special together.

One of the Best Christmas Stories Ever
It is 1946 in the small town of Clear River, Nebraska, and Addie Mills, the lively, intelligent and artistic daughter of widower James Mills, who is being raised by her grandmother because her mother died shortly after she was born, once again broaches the idea of having a Christmas tree. I loved watching this T.V. special when I was a young--er.I was about the same age too as Addie, and I looked forward to watching it year after year after year, but then they stopped running the special and I was so disappointed.I just took a chance to see if I could find it for sale on the Internet and low and behold, I found it so I just placed my order!You have no idea how thrilled I was to see that it was available to buy.I can't wait to see it again, considering it's been about 30 years or more since I've seen it.I couldn't remember the name of the special but all I knew for certain was Jason Robards played Addie's dad, and Mildred Natwick played her grandmother.It was one of the best things I've ever seen on T.V., and now I can pass this on to my children.

My daughter is 16 months old and loves Elmo.I purchased this DVD thinking she would love it but she doesn't love it, she likes it.She loses interest in it b/c the songs aren't familiar.All in all the DVD is OK.

The BEST DVD for Toddlers by FAR!!
My 20 month old daughter absolutely LOVES this DVD. This is the ONLY DVD that she will watch for the entire length of it!I have even restarted it with her still in her "Elmo trance" and she still didn't budge!This has been her best Easter present! She has since received three Elmo's World DVDs that she likes, but they still do not compare to how much she LOVES this one.With the Elmo's World DVDs, she gets bored when they show Mr. Noodle and the other "real people" clips.Maybe those are more interesting for older kids, but for my daughter, she just isn't interested.

An Admirable Walk into the American Past

Well made film, but where can I get a DVD???
I've seen the film on German television recently - with german dubbed actors. Sounded a bit odd but otherwise the movie was very well made and quite authentic, I found. I browsed every Amazon in Europe and in the United States - but no DVD. US-NTSC Format VHS-Videos don't work in Europe. We've got 220 V/50 Hz, remember that, when selling to an important market in Europe - that is good ol' Deutschland!! When can I reckon with a european compatible Video or a DVD? Great for Teachers and other educators
Okay yes they do talk fast, but this particular video has a great learning addition: both Wakko's America and Yakko's world is on this tape. Even if they kids don't get all of it, they'll pick up on some of it, and before you know it, maybe they'll recite the state capitals without much trouble. Animaniacs Rocks!
Animaniacs is the best show with the best music! This is my review of every song: "I'm Cute" is a very cute and funny song thanks to Yakko and Wakko getting bored. "Snitchelbank" is very funny when you are seeing the cartoon, the same thing with "Make a Gookie", a parody of "Fealing Grovy". I like how they combinded 2 cartoons to do "Our first day of School" and "Wakko's America". H.M.S. Yakko has a funny story and the songs get better and better near the end. Can you sing "Yakko's World" without the words? I can! "I'm Mad" is a great song to sing along with my sister Nina. The theame song is great and very energetic. All in all, this is great!

V. funny - for 4 year olds, and 34 year olds :) Some cartoon violence (cannons blowing up pirates, etc). The German "Oh du schoene Schnitzelbank" song is v. catchy. ... Read more

More Sex and the City = More Shoes!!!
Sex and the City is back again. This time there is more sex, more relationships and of course more drama. It's so good though, and addictive. Just by watching it, you are already a part of it, like their fifth girlfriend, with the same problems. It's funny and it's great all the way around!!!!
I loved it one of the best series ever!!
I love sex and the city for it's great humor to realness that no other show has done before. I have to say I enjoyed season 3 better but I liked this season better then season 1 and 2. The season started off slow but picked up fast. This season deals with more maturing story lines. Carrie gets engaged, Smatha learns what love is, Charlette delas with a not so perfet marriage and Miranda gets pregnet. It's weird to see how the charactors have matured through out the first 4 seasons. I cant waut to watch season's 5 and 6.

A Christmas classic for Gen Xers
Very good movie...shows you the spirit of Christmas prevails.
Wish they would produce this on DVD for the US!It's in the UK on DVD!
This movie deserves 5 stars!I can't belive they haven't produced this on DVD in the US.It's been years since I heard it was on DVD in the UK (you can buy it from eBay, but you can't play it unless you have a region 2 player).

Unaware of Region Codes
I purchased a DVD of this movie after Christmas of 2005 from a person in the UK.Since the DVD version was so hard to find I thought I was lucky to have found a copy.But I had no idea there was such thing as region codes when I purchased the DVD, as I'm sure many people don't.It was a month or more after I received it that I tried to play it in my player and found out it wouldn't work.It was only then that I discovered there was something wrong, and after some research I found out about the different regions.I contacted the seller and they were very unsympathetic, after which I recalled the saying "buyer beware" .There needs to be a Region Code warning on all DVD's for sale from other countries for unsuspecting buyers, just like me.So for anyone who happens to read this who is considering buying any DVD from the UK or any other foreign country, BEWARE.It will not work in your DVD player here in the U.S. If only I had known beforehand, but like they say...hindsight is 20/20 . ... Beware. Region 2 DVD Won't Play on US Players
Please be aware that this DVD is Region 2 encoded and will not play on most US DVD players which are Region 1. You can buy player which will ignore the region code on Amazon - just search for "multi region dvd player".
"jaws" on the western plains
this is another of charles bronson's 70's westerns that tried to do something different,and it works if you let it. blasted by everyone when it came out it really is a good take on "jaws" and "moby dick" in the west. bronson is wild bill hickock,slowly being eatten away by the clap,and having visions of the white buffalo of the title and it's coming for him so he starts looking for it. will sampson is crazy horse who must kill the beast to help his daughter(killed by the anamial)to get to heaven. this has some great scenery and some fine action scenes,so if you like bronson or westerns that have a little food for thought check this one out.

Western Noire
I first saw this film in my teens, and it's stayed in my head ever since.I've only been able to find it on DVD with Korean menus, but I thank goodness for the widescreen version!
