Ruth's last hurrah!
Ruth White was a Broadway stage, film, and television actress with an enormous range of talent. None better than in this 70 minute display. She plays a lonely night cleaner in a science laboratory. She befriends the dolphin and they form a unique communication between them that they understand. The dolphin represents her in many ways. The dolphin is trapped in a pool of water with no where to go. He wants to go to the sea and Ruth's character would do anything for him. If the dolphin does not talk to others, he will lose his life. Ruth's admirable performance is worth watching. If you're a Ruth White fan, you will certainly appreciate this drama. Bil Baird is the puppeteer behind the dolphin and Elizabeth Wilson plays a very cold well-meaning night manager. All of the characters appear to be as lonely as the dolphin in the cage. ... Age-old conflict of historic preservation vs "progress."
Filmed for public television on location near the (real) Coster dig in southern Illinois, this 1976 production of Lanford Wilson's Obie Award-winning play details the excavation of Jasker Field by archaeologists as they try to solve some of the mysteries of Native American temple mounds from 700 - 1000 A. D.This is frantic work, since a nearby lake is rising and a planned interstate, under construction, is scheduled to bury the site.Wilson creates a cauldron of emotions by housing all the principals in a farmhouse belonging to Mr. Jasker, whose son Chad enthusiastically awaits the expansion of the lake, which will give him valuable "waterfront property," and the building of the interstate, which will bring some excitement and change into his life.

One of the classics!
This is another memory in my favorite plays - I saw this on A&E in the '80's and fell in love with Marc Singer - his acting, his looks - this version from the ACT in San Francisco is sensuous, and gives a mighty kick to the play - makes a delightful play even more so.
great rendition!
I love shakespeare and am, in fact, in a shakespeare class at school, so I might be biased. anyway, I borrowed this dvd from my teacher so I could watch it at home and wasn't disappointed. it's wonderful! it's done in the commedia dell'arte style and reminds me of when I saw it in oxford. it was great then and fredi olster and marc singer are really nice together. the only reason I might give this four stars would be because the quality of the recording. it's a stage production and filmed like one, not like a movie! I didn't hold it against them, though, because that's certainly not their fault.

A moving documentary based on the lives of children in South Africa.Expect the truth. Unadulterated and moving. A good film to show your children.

wonderful
I watched this movie in History class last week, it was one of the best movies i have seen. And it's hard to get a high school class to all watch a movie without falling asleep, but this one is one that kept everyone awake,it was very educational learning how people were really treated and whatkind of life they lived. I would definately recommend this movie to anyone.

Absolutely Astounding
I watched this video some years ago, and even now, I remember how much I learned from it, and how much I enjoyed it, as well as how much I wept for the sorrows of the young cast members.Sarafina itself is a tale of theterrible history of apartheid, and this video, with interviews from thecast, all from South Africa (all of whom were first-hand witnesses to thehorrors perpetrated by the former government) is even more affecting thanthe musical or the movie.I can't think of any reason not tobuy or watchthis poignant, moving film.I can only say that you'll be very sorry ifyou don't. ... what?
i want this dvd set 1.cuz i love the musicals josph,cats.and 2. i want to see superstar! i could care less for the albert hall thing. i want to see the musicals! also you must see phantom of the opera ( the best musical EVER!!!!) fiddler on the roof (not enough songs but still good!)

Reasons
Cats - This DvD performance is a must have and that is all there is to it. A brilliant piece of work with very good bonus features. I am in awe of such raw and amazing talent that this DvD contained.

I love this entire collection.When I bought this, I wasn't very excited about Jesus Christ Superstar, because I thought it was the 1973 version.Imagine my delight when this was in fact the updated version of the show.An amazing cast draws you into the story, and finally Judas does not appear simply as a traitor or a psycho, but as someone tormented.

Better than I remembered!
Many years ago I had the pleasure of seeing this filmed stage play on PBS and am delighted to see it was finally released on video. Based on the William Gillette play, this Civil War spy story features (VERY young) John Lithgow, Meryl Streep, and Charles Kimbrough (best known for his work in 'Murphy Brown') in the lead roles.(Look quickly for Jeffrey Jones of 'Ferris Buller' fame in a bit as a Southern soldier.)Read more

Good intentions do not a masterpiece make...
Admittedly, there is some degree of interest in this production, which is supplied most obviously by Beverly Todd, the standout performer here, as the Stepdaughter. Watching her is, to be honest, a big relief. She's basically the only actor who gives her character some real fire or juice, or whatever one calls it.
