1-0 out of 5 stars What the ??!?!?!
TERRIBLE!!! I can't believe Tarantino is capable of such garbage. Nothing happens!!! It's like 2.5 hrs long and nothing happens. Is that even possible?Brutally boring. How does anyone rate this movie highly? Maybe it's a movie where you have to be a book nerd who liked the transation to film? All I know is NOTHING HAPPENS! Q: What is the plot? A. Who knows. If someone asks me what this movie was about - I say 'It's about NOTHING'. And not in a good Seinfeld way. Sad really. I think Tarantino tried to make a cool movie. But along the way he forgot that a movie needs to tell a story. This movie is like watching a slideshow - and who the hell needs that? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hell yeah! a lot of Laugh
I like this movie a lot, it had boxing, crazy characters, a midget, and one of the very disgusting scene of all the times, a guy head sumerged in a toilet, previously used (with turd and all). Mr.t work here and he is hilarious as always.

1-0 out of 5 stars .........
worst movie in the history of american cinema!you need to be checked out if you actually think this was good.their doing nice things in mental institutions these days.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOXING MOVIE EVER!
Penitentiary 2 is the best of the Penitentiary flicks. It has the drama of Rocky, the comedy of an old Rudy Ray Moore flick, and the edge of an episode of OZ (HOOOOOOAAAAH).Speaking of OZ, this flick has Ernie Hudson in it.Oh and don't let me forget to mention that this movie has the ultimate action TV hero of the 80's MR. T! My favorite character in this movie is Mr. Seldom Seems. This guy's beard is as thick and round as the afro on his head and he's always telling people not to touch him. He's got a thing about people touching him, he's sort of like Rain Man except he doesn't scream when he's hugged he just starts throwing blows. If you want to watch a classic boxing movie, then P2 is it.......OOOH YEAH, there's a drag queen and a midget in this movie also ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the series
I have to say, this one is my favorite of them all.The action, sex, and violence!!The original black superhero!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A CHANGE OF PACE FOR SHAFT
THIS TIME, JOHN SHAFT [RICHARD ROUNDTREE] IS FORCED TO GO TO AFRICA TO INFILTRATE A 20TH CENTURY SLAVE CARTEL. I THINK IT'S GOOD THAT THEY TRYED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH THE SERIES. THOUGH IT STILL PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE ORIGINAL, IT'S STILL A DECENT ACTION FILM.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo for Shaft!
Shaft does it again! He brings his street sense to Africa and woos an African princess in the process...and right under the watchful eye of her bodyguard!Too smooth!I was actually craving for more after this one...who knows, he might have done the same in Europe had more had been produced!Richard Roundtree was truly one of the hottest names in the business at that time as John Shaft.Get the other two as well to complete the collection ("Shaft" and "Shaft's Big Score"). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cinematic Masterpiece
Eschewing conventional acting methodology, Rudy Ray Moore inhabits Dolemite with an unparalleled ferocity. His signature line, "I'm Dolemite, Mutha(expletive)" is delivered time and time again in a drunken slur: a brutal, but anguished, plea for sanity. To the untrained eye, it might seem like Dolemite's karate kicks are not even connecting with his foes, but this is a metaphor for the never ending conundrum of the pimp/poet/warrior.Watch for the symbolism inherent in the furry hat and pay close attention to the pants that come up to his armpits as both are integral to understanding the magnificence that is Dolemite.
5-0 out of 5 stars Only two reasons:
This movie is worth buying just for these two reasons:
5-0 out of 5 stars Cinematic Masterpiece!!
I recently had the pleasure of watching a film starring the Hunkiest specimen of Man-meat ever to grace the silver screen. It was Rudy Ray Moore in Dolemite. Let me start off by saying this is quite possibly the finest film ever made. Dolemite himself is a man so baaad that he doesn't even feel the need to be in good shape to impress us, he let's his martial arts do the talkin'. If Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Tony Jaa were all combined into one glorious person they would still aspire to be Dolemite. To the untrained eye it would appear that Dolemite is not actually hitting people in the fight scenes. In reality he is just so fast that he can snap his hands and feet there and back so quickly that it gives the viewer the illusion that his foot is six inches away from the targets head.

Anthony "Amp" Elmore is a hero and a genius. This autobiographical-action-comedy-drama, directed by and starring Elmore, tells the true story of how a little kid with a big afro used the teachings of Shotokan (old Japanese style Karate) to rise from his meager roots and become a man... a man who is one of the great superpowers of kickboxing! While traveling on this life journey, "Amp" made many allies, and we meet a few of them in this film: Sensai, Mike Patton, The Ring Girls... but the one who stands out the most is the one, the only... 1-0 out of 5 stars Two parts don't make a whole.
"Mean Mother" is actually two films in one.Infamously awful director Al Adamson once again took a foreign film and then shot some new footage to combine with it.2-0 out of 5 stars A cheap way to make movies.
This movie is a mixture of two different films and neither of them is any good.Klimovsky edited his 1970`s film El Hombre que Vino del Odio and merged it with a new film directed by Al Adamson which is filled with violence and nudity but not enough length to rate it as a feature film.So both directors try to seel us these separate stories as a brand new one but the lack of continuity makes evident this is not an original release. Mean Mother`s only attraction is the presence of Luciana Paluzzi who saves this boring picture in the few scenes she appears. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST - BUT STILL FUN
I miss Ron O'Neil. He was Superfly. In this one we get Nathan Purdee who does extremely well with what he's given but it's just not the same as having Ron in the role. But Purdee is cool and does his best to make this a decent flick and I appreciate that.
1-0 out of 5 stars Awful Sequel
This movie is so bad that is not fun. Boring, awful direction, amateurish acting, the plot doesn't make sense. If you thought that SUPERFLY T.N.T. was bad this is worst ( Priest working for the cops to capture the big drug dealers? Give me a break!). Go back and watch the original SUPERFLY which is the one,I am sure, that the guy that gave this one five stars was thinking of. Avoid this one, you have been warned!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even Bother

4-0 out of 5 stars Motown '70's gangsta scene
Probably never gonna be a famous "must see" type movie, but a whale of an entertaining piece this is! We rarely get to see the Motor City in the distinction as the prime locale for a major film, but this proves to be a notable and entertaining exception. No real Hollywood high profile stars here: Alex Rocco, Vonetta McGee and Hari Rhodes are the headliners closest to that category.Nonetheless, it is a fast paced tour-de-force of Police corruption and Black Power machinations in an era of nascent political upheaval. Add to that a cleverly conceived and executed heist scene and you have the makings of a very absorbing melodrama.
5-0 out of 5 stars Racism, Muder, Politics, Detroit Style.
This crime drama/mystery is set in a post-riot Detroit, and touches on many issues that Motown has yet to resolve.
2-0 out of 5 stars BORING!!!!
This movie starts out alright, with some good chase scenes and a few shoot-outs, but then it just becomes incredibly boring. Detroit 9000 becomes so slow paced, that it will put you to sleep.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The highest flyin', slickest, meanest dude you'll ever face
In case you're unaware, blaxploitation is defined as `a genre of American film of the 1970s featuring African-American actors in lead roles and often having antiestablishment plots, frequently criticized for stereotypical characterization and glorification of violence. While African-American filmmakers were substantially involved in making early movies in this genre, their participation in subsequent productions was minimal.'MGM releases their films of this genre under the guise of `Soul Cinema'.Universal, who released this DVD, did so under the header `Soul Showcase'...both seem a little pretentious, as it's all blaxploitation to me (and everyone else), regardless how much they try to fancy it up.That Man Bolt (1973) features two directors in Henry Levin (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and David Lowell Rich (The Concorde: Airport '79) and stars a relative staple of the genre in former Oakland Raiders / Kansas City Chiefs football star Fred `The Hammer' Williamson (Black Caesar, Hell Up in Harlem, Three the Hard Way) as the title character, Jefferson Bolt. Also appearing is the portly Byron Webster (The Poseidon Adventure, The Nude Bomb), Miko Mayama (The Hawaiians), and Teresa Graves (Vampira).
5-0 out of 5 stars what the deal is
I thought this movie was preety good. Fred did a great job with his charater Jefferson Bolt, and the story board was as good as his former 70's movies' like hell up in harlem, and black Ceaser. If your a Fred Willaimson fan, then this is difinitely one of his movie's you should add to your collection. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Can You Dig It?
Shaft's Big Score is a decent sequel, but the pacing is a bit slow at times. You can't beat The Theme From Shaft, but Big Score has got some tight music in it, keepin' it funky for the Private Dick whose a brotha man. Bumpy and Willie, my two favorite characters are back, and Bumpy is still tolerating Shaft while Bumpy maintains his hilarious disrepecting of him. About midway through is one of coolest scenes ever-Shaft is getting worked over backstage at a nightclub by Mob goons while the shots cut back and forth between busted jaws and writhing exotic dancers. The whole scene is scored with a heavily funky tune about the fuzz comin' 'round and what you gonna do when the mace comes down. Obviously, then you gotta just disrespect the Man and check this movie out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Film!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great action vehicle for Jim Brown fans!
Jim Brown is Slaughter, a Green Beret Vietnam veteran who's not long back from the service when his parents are killed in a car-bomb murder. It turns out Slaughter's dad (it's never explicitly stated, but he was apparently involved in a mild hustle, like the numbers) somehow stumbled upon a computer printout of a Mob operation's payoff roster. But he was killed before he could make a deal for its safe return.Slaughter then makes moves to find the killers, while being shadowed byKim (Marlene Clark), an undercover federal agent.A shootout at an airport puts Slaughter at odds with the U.S. Treasury Department, who then send him to an unnamed South American country to track down the surviving crooks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Old school action!
This is quite an entertaining 70's action movie. The acting, as in most action movies, is a bit superficial, but the overall movie is solid.Jim Brown, given his impressive size, is perfect as a tough action hero. The majority of the movie is set in Mexico, thus giving it an exotic feel. The racial epithets by the villains also give the movie an appropriate sense of the palpable racism of the 70's. Rip Torn gives an over-the-top performance as the main bad-guy Hoffo. As noted in the other reviews, Stella Stevens is perfect eye-candy in her supporting role.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhere between Superfly and Dolemite
As a white boy from Ohio, I've always had a fondness for Blaxploitation flicks from the 1970's.They were loud and bold, action-packed and takin'-no-sass.They felt like renegade productions, and I dug everything about them. The funky soundtracks, the outrageous fashions, the over-the-top acting and action.Watching them now just takes me back to the 70's like an old song.

A good selection of Pam Grier in blaxploitation era, the set covers the three essential movies. In short, watch these three volumes, then you know Pam in the 70s.For those who are eager to know more, these movies are described as follows: Friday Foster is "bright and cute Pam"; Foxy Brown "sexy and tough Pam"; and Coffy is no doubt the best of Pam Grier!

3-0 out of 5 stars I wasn't feeling this one baby.
If I had to describe `Sheba Baby,' the best I can come up with is Pam Grier Light with some really bad mellow drama. I really tried, but this movie just didn't work for me. The action scenes were dull, the acting was surprisingly poor, and some of these characters were TOO stereotypical to even be funny.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pam Grier, Forever!
This is the first of Pam Grier's efforts that I would not lump wholly in the exploitation category.Sure, there's lots of gunplay and a redundant catfight. That said, the dialogue here avoids the tongue-and-cheek quality that was evident in "Coffy" and "Foxy Brown" and the villains here are more realistic and not as cartoonish. The underlying theme here are the underworld elements that threaten legitimate black entrepreneurs.Because the film deals with the threat more seriously the message becomes more potent.Even in this low-budget effort Grier just commands the screen like any of her contemporaries and would give a run for the money for today's top actresses. She was definitely ahead of her time.I can't recall if Halle Berry thanked her in her Oscar speech. She does not appear nude here but she looks so fabulous clothed that your imagination will do somersaults.Timeless entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it just to see Pam in a wetsuit
This may not be Pam Grier's best film, but I give it high marks, because there's a long stretch towards the end of the film where we see her in a sexy blue beavertail wetsuit. She keeps the jacket unzipped about half way through most of it, so you can get a good, alluring view of her chest. Sure, she has a swimsuit on under the wetsuit, but I find that more interesting anyway. Lets one use one's imagination, I say. You can't ask for more than a beautiful woman in a beavertail wetsuit (and if you ARE asking for things like character development, fine acting, etc you're really looking in the wrong place). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good Action Film From the Chef in "South Park"
Issac Hayes carrying the whole weight of an action film alone?A film starring HIM???At first I thought it's ridiculous.Well, he is a great singer, but ....Then I watched this film, and twice, and am convinced. He should do that more!!Yes, I acknowledge he cannot act like DeNiro or Pacino, and the story of his love interest is as convincing as love between Josh, Ben, and Kate in "Pearl Harbor."But given a right material like this, his towering physical presence makes up for anything single-handedly.5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best action movies ever made
Here's a screenplay that should be studied in film school.Seriously.It starts out with a bang and holds your interest for a slammin' first act. Then, just when you're sayin' to yourself, "OK, this is fun, but where the hell is it going?" the movie makes a 180-degree turn at the 30-minute mark and totally peels out into something you've never seen before. One of the few instances where 3 writers on an action movie is actually a GOOD thing (especially since one of them is Michael Allin, who wrote ENTER THE DRAGON, and another is Oscar Williams, who gave us THE FINAL COMEDOWN and BLACK BELT JONES).Brilliantly directed by Jonathan Kaplan.Solid supporting performances from Alan Weeks, Nichelle Nichols, Dick Miller, Stan Shaw, Stymie Beard from the Little Rascals, and especially Sam Laws, who always turns up as a character named "Dinwiddie" in Kaplan's early films (see also THE STUDENT TEACHERS, THE SLAMS, and WHITE LINE FEVER).Special mention should also go to Yaphet Kotto, who one year earlier had claimed that his role in LIVE AND LET DIE was racist, but apparently thought nothing of collecting a paycheck here by playing a murderous pimp (or, even worse, two years later in DRUM, where he portrayed a slave who is stripped nude, hung upside down, and asswhipped to a bloody pulp). Also, you gotta love any movie featuring an Italian hitman named "Joe Dante" (Kaplan and future GREMLINS director Joe Dante were both working for Roger Corman at the time this movie was produced.I think WHITE LINE FEVER also features a character named Joe Dante).Last but not least, the score by Isaac Hayes is amazing. If you can find the double-CD (paired with his equally great THREE TOUGH GUYS soundtrack), grab it!I play it all the time, and it's always being sampled by hip hop performers.Definitely check this sucker out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Happening Film

Shot on the streets of New York, writer-director Larry Cohen capturesthe bustle and color of the city in this violent, low-budget crime film. 5-0 out of 5 stars A tough, gritty blaxploitation classic not to be missed
Black Caesar (1973) is one heck of a good movie.I hate the term blaxploitation that is used to describe movies of this genre because it implies that these sorts of films are somehow second-class entries in the world of cinema.Black Caesar is a first-class ride from start to finish, taking as much from classic gangster films of the 1930s and 1940s as it does from earlier blaxploitation films such as Shaft.Larry Cohen gave us a tough, mean, dirty, gritty film that tells it and shows it like it is: plenty of cursing, gunplay, blood, profanity, nudity, and racism.I have heard that the starring role was originally written for Sammy Davis, Jr.Nobody loved Sammy more than I do, but there's just no way he could have done the things that Tommy Gibbs does effectively.A lot of people deride the acting skills of Fred Williamson, which makes no sense to me; the man is just fantastic in this film.

He brings his street sense to Africa and woos an African princess in the process...and right under the watchful eye of her bodyguard!Too smooth!I was actually craving for more after this one...who knows, he might have done the same in Europe had more had been produced!Richard Roundtree was truly one of the hottest names in the business at that time as John Shaft.Get the other two as well to complete the collection ("Shaft" and "Shaft's Big Score"). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best comedies that has ever come out of Hollywood
There will be some people who will say that 'Black Samson' is the worst piece of trash that has ever been found in the garbage can of Hollywood. Some people might go as far as to say that this film is the result of thefilm Capitol of the world taking an overdose of prune juice, but I knowthis Masterpiece for what it is--the funniest, jive talking, dashikiwearing, big stick carrying, huge 'fro laugh riot of the seventies. You'llcheer as Samson beats up on members of the cheap Mafia-too poor even toafford guns. You'll shout as Samson goes up side their heads with his BIGKendo stick . You'll howl as Samson shape shifts from his six foot plusbody to a five foot plus dwarf. You'll be amazed at an explosion thatkills a man but only gives his pet Lion a haircut! If you are looking fora real escape from reality, please buy this video. I gave it Four starsonly because there are some 'mushy love scenes' that tend to detract fromthe comedy. This film is a MUST for anyone who is an aficionado of REALLYBAD 'blaxploitation' films. I LOVE IT !!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
No, this film isn't meant to be funny. But it is anyway!Rudy Ray Moore is "The Avenging Disco Godfather", a heroic...D.J.?Very odd, and quite weird as well. The story centers around drugs (go figure), and the young people who get high have weird visions about...basketball (see, I told you it was weird).
2-0 out of 5 stars Laughed so hard, made my side hurt.............
Man,lemme tell you. This movie is funny WITHOUT a beer. If you're expecting a high quality Soul Cinema picture, with somewhat decent resolution level & clarity ( i.e. Willie Dynamite, Shaft, etc ) this ain't it. The lighting in this movie is terrible ! LOL !!! The dialogue is muffled, the editing sucks and the acting is incredibly hilarious ( though it wasn't meant to be ). Like some of the other reviews attested, this mug is funny.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rudy Ray Moore Is The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
I highly recommend all Rudy Ray Moore movies, especially "Petey Wheatstraw, The Devils Son In Law." His movies are some of the absolute greatest things ever made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Black Cobra will not disappoint!!!
This movie is awesome!I got it at the drug store down the road for 4.99!(An awesome deal)I liked it so much I decided to Google it and ended up here.If you like really cool "B" Italian action movies, likable good guys, and "hardcore" bad guys than Black Cobra is a must own.The story is great! Detective Malone (Fred Williamson) must protect a female fashion photographer from the ruthless Black Cobra biker gang and their indestructible leader Snake (Karl Landgren), after she sees them kill her neighbor. This results in a lot of cool action including various show downs with the Malone and the Cobras in different settings.Add cool poppy 80's music, "Dad this is the A-HA!!"and a cool funny ladies man side kick for Malone, and you get a one really enjoyable action movie. The climaxes are great too, especially when Malone and his buddy have to rescue the chief's daughter from the Cobras in the abandoned parking lot.Oh and the closing theme song is rrrrrreally cool.Happy Happy Italian 80's pop rock!"Take me to Ameeeerica!"I give this the highest rating I possible can!
4-0 out of 5 stars haven't seen this copy but I have seen the film
Other reviews on here say this is a bad copy. That's too bad.
2-0 out of 5 stars JUST ANOTHER ACTION FLICK; 2.5 STARS
A COP [FRED WILLIAMSON] IS HIRED TO PROTECT A YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER FROM A VERY MURDEROUS MOTORCYCLE GANG. THIS POORLY FILMED ACTIONER IS YOUR USUAL ACTION FLICK. BUT, IT IS OCCASIONALLY FUN TO WATCH. AT LEAST THERE IS SOME GOOD ACTION AND THERE IS SOME COOL VILLAINS. THOUGH THIS IS QUITE FAR FROM BEING A GOOD MOVIE, IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN ONE WOULD MOST LIKELY EXPECT. FANS OF FRED WILLIAMSON WILL MOST LIKELY ENJOY THIS. IF THIS FILM ONLY HAD A BETTER SCRIPT AND SOME BETTER ACTING, THIS MIGHT'VE BEEN A MUCH BETTER MOVIE. SHOCKINGLY, THIS MANAGED TO SPAWN TWO SEQUELS. ... Read more
