Interesting, but no Charlie!
Having heard the name "Charlie Christian" uttered so reverently and so frequently in jazz circles I was curious to learn more about him and to hear him play. With that in mind I bought this video. Unfortunately itturns out that this is not a performance video. It's a half hour (in blackand white) of reminiscences of Christian's friends and acquaintances andsome of the guitarists he's influenced. Although I did learn alot about hisbackground, there isn't a single visual example of his playing. There arefragments of his recordings here and there, but the video is essentiallyjust a verbal documentary. Apparently the motivation for its creation wasto raise funds for a tombstone for the pioneering guitarist's unmarkedgrave. There's a note at the end indicating that a public showing of thefilm did indeed raise the money to carry out that purpose, so I supposethat in that respect the film is a success. Having passed away so early inhis career I guess it's probable that little (if any) film footage ofCharlie Christian playing exists today. Therefore I would advise interestedparties to turn to his recordings for samples of his revolutionarytechnique. Unfortunately in this video you'll hear quite a bit about it butwon't get to see any of it.

pointless
imagine that you make it real big and die. THEN they go back to an old neighborhood you lived in and do interviews. that's all this is. people talking about pac. it was whack in my opinion cause for one a LOT of haters came out of nowhere talking mad noise about him. the thing is they were all rappers at one time so it came off to me as them being mad they were still in the same spot. one dude even said pac deserved to be shot. you want a real documentary then i recommend thug angel or Resurrection.

Don't Get Mugged by Thug Life
This video is a collection of interviews with minor characters in Tupac's life. Tupac never shows up in it! What they had to say about the performer could have been condensed into a 10 minute production--if that. Your money is much better spent buying the Tupac Resurrection video, which is really very good and actually has Tupac giving the interviews.

Trust me, This Video/DVD sucks.
Im a huge 2Pac fan, and Im here to tell ya' dont waste your money on this video/DVD. Its basically just no-thrills video footage of some old friends of Pacs from Baltimore, hanging around their neighborhood talking about Pac, some of their memories are funny and its amusing watching them clown around telling their stories, but most of it is entirely forgettable. Theres a few home made video segments that Pac and his boys took of each other back in the day, but nothing too great. If youre a crazy Pac fan that must own everything with his name attached to it, then go ahead and buy this Video/DVD.But, if youre just a big fan of Pacs who wants to pick up a video/DVD about him, I recommend the Tupac Movie documentary "Tupac/Resurrection" which is really a must own for any real 2Pac fan.Also although not all about just Tupac himself "welcome to Death Row" is interesting to watch, but do yourself a favor and save your money rather then spend it on this video/DVD. Trust me people, this video/DVD sucks, dont believe any of the reviews that said it was great or whatever. Pac himself would be the first to blast on this video/DVD saying that its garbage. ... A forgotten great of jazz
I've shown this video to several of my friends, and they've all found it to be as incredible as I did. Harry's music was right up there in quality with Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway and other greats of the '40s. This video is a very moving portrait of Harry both in his prime and later in life. Harry was a fine boogie-woogie piano player, one of the fastest, and his contortions were a model for such rock performers as Jerry Lee Lewis. Unfortunately, he became best known for two things: novelty songs (like 4-F Ferdinand the Frantic Freak) and heavy drug use. His 40s recordings seem to be out-of-print, (if they're back in print when you read this, BUY THEM!) and the recordings available on CD do not present him at his best. The rare clips from the 1940s in this video present Harry in his prime, and his performance remains unrivalled. ... Read more

Bad, Horrible, crap, eminem deserves better!!!!
eminem is hardly even in this, and most people interviewed have are not even well known people...they are his "supposed" friends....guys might like it though there is a random gurl taht strips in it....Its GARBAge!!! (and I LOVE EMINEM) save your money!!

IT BITES!
I was so dissapointed in this video! It is so diguesting! The camrea wastoo close to the faces, it was boring and it was just so stupid! Pllus,it's unauthorized! I wouldn't waste my time on it!

Not the Best
This video offers a wonderful glimpse of Van Cliburn's magnetic personality, despite a crazy cameraman. Most of the video does not even show Mr. Cliburn playing the piano, and when it does you can't see anything but his face. The camera only shows his fingers at the easiest parts of a piece (most of the time) and shows his face (at EXTREMELY close range) the rest of the time. And not even his whole face, at that - it's more like his eyes and nose. Which is not why I bought this video - I wanted more to see his incredible hands. Read more

Discreet, respectful but well-made documentary
Rudolf Nureyev's life story would make a good biopic, along the lines of Billy Elliot: a poor, uneducated Tatar boy gets a late start on ballet, but through sheer determination becomes a great star. He defects to the West, and becomes an even bigger star.
Excellent documentary; a must-have for Nureyev fans
For someone who not only enjoys watching great dancers perform, but who also appreciates a good biography, I was impressed by every minute of this DVD documentary. Whether or not you're a dance fanatic, you're bound to be amazed by the life, contribution and influence of one of ballet's greatest masters.Read more

Great DVD
Having been a fan of Margot Fonteyn since 1955, having seen 52 of her performances and having had lunch with her after she autographed a copy of her autobiography, I was delighted to see this DVD which I thoroughly enjoyed. Anyone who wants to know more about this sensational ballerina, this DVD is a must.

A Great Flim about Fonteyn
This is a must see filim for anyone who wants toknow more about Margot Fonteyn. Great personal interview of Ms. Fonteyn and footages of her dancing. The only problem I have is with the DVD itself, it's a straight copy of the VHS version. No program meun, no chapter meun, no commentary about the film, Nothing. The film image is also kind fuzzy and wash out.

A nice thorough job
This gives a nice overview of Fonteyn's life and career, narrated largely by Dame Margot herself.If you've already read her autobiography, however, this doesn't add up to any new or revealing information.The narration isinterspersed with comments from associates like Ninette de Valois, RobertHelpmann, Fred Ashton, ballet critics, etc, and more interestingly (imo)scatterings of film footages of Fonteyn performing over the years.Thereare short little clips of a '37 television solo, the '62 Giselle withNureyev (gorgeous -- the performance, I mean), Sleeping Beauty - RoseAdagio, a '66 Ondine, etc, etc.Read more
