4-0 out of 5 stars a hoot for kids, enjoyable for adults
The animals are charming, the characters are... well, characters, and the plot is comical. There was nothing in the film that made me laugh out loud - but there are very clever scenes that made me smile and think to myself, "that's clever!" As the owner of a rabbit, I was tickled to see the film, as there aren't many bunny characters out there... but I must say, there were no behaviors of the bunnies that made me think they studied rabbits at length before rendering them. Wallace & Gromit have a humane pest control company, called Anti-Pesto. They use clamps around rabbits' necks to retrieve them. I know this is 'just' an animated film, but this is not a humane way in which to handle a rabbit. Children should be given the notion that rabbits can be picked up in this manner any more than you should pick up a child by the neck. I do like the cute way in which the bunnies are rendered, nonetheless.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cute, Funny, But sometimes slow
The title says it all. The movie had interesting and funny parts. However, the outcome was somewhat predictable. Lots of parts are funny because they relate to things adults can understand. Other parts would be funny to kids. Overall, it is not a bad movie to rent, but not something to be bought and watched over and over again (at least by 30 something year olds).

3-0 out of 5 stars Cracking toast, Grommit!
Very cute concept, adorable bunnies, funny characters.Perfect for kiddies but too long for adults. This type of movie should be 1 hour long.Of course, Grommit is smarter than Wallace. But, I miss the criminal penguin character.Enjoy! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
A very nice rendition of the novel; the BBC does great work! The sets are nothing to its 1995 successor, but the respective scores fit each. Here, the music is very homey and "small-ish" to fit the image, and music for Collins is hilarious; in the 1995 version, the energetic score fits the opening scenes wonderfully.Plus, this DVD beats the 1995 DVD on sound quality, hands down.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and charming
I greatly enjoyed this version of Pride and Prejudice. It is far superior to any other movie based on the novel. My opinion is based on its true adherence to the book and its development of the characters.Anyone will benefit from viewing this movie in conjunction with reading the book. It contains all the lessons that are inherent in the book, namely: (1) how ladies and gentlemen should (and should not) conduct themselves; (2) the effects of hasty judgment; and (3) what care parents should take in the upbringing of their children....at least these are some of the lessons I got out of it.I am one of those people who believes the arts should both entertain and edify us, and this movie does both to perfection.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awfull
Hi Just wanted to warn every one of this awful adaption of Pride and prejudice...First, You just have to look at the front to see that Jane AND lizzy are both really ugly the nicest you could call them would be not even tolerable. 1 Lizzy has eyes that are sticking out she way to thin her hairs awful there is nothing about her in the least that isa appealing. jane is a little better but not by much. 2 both are bad actresses. The movie has almost no music the quality is quite bad, the sister, mother, and father are bad actors themselves. Mr. darcy and Mr Bingly are both wow you feel bad for them. there pretty bad themselves so I recommend this to any one who has tons of time on there hands feels like laphing at awful acting, and watching the most boring dull non- intersting movie ever then enjoy but others wise don't wast your money or pay attention to the four stars this movie has been given. I love Pride and prejudice so its nothing against the movie itself... just this version. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buddhism meets Word For World Is Forest in this Who story
"Paradise, isn't it?The sun shines, the birds sing, food grows on trees?"On the lush forest world planet S14 (Deva Loka), the Doctor and Adric run into an Earth military expedition consisting of Colonel Saunders, Security Officer Hindle, and Dr. Todd, the surviving members of a former six-person mission on whether or not to colonize Kinda. The forest world concept is borrowed from Ursula LeGuin's 1970's story The World For World Is Forest, which was an indirect protest against the US presence in Vietnam.5-0 out of 5 stars "You can't mend people!"
"Kinda", first broadcast in 1982 (not 1975 - how did Amazon come up with that?) as part of season 19, is easily one of the best Peter Davison adventures, if not the entire series. A race of telepathic people, the Kinda, are in turn using and being used by a Terran survey team, all the while trying to avoid the foretold 'second coming' of an ancient and terrible evil, the Mara. Although it seems simplistic, the telling of the story is quite original and, like other recent adventures, geared more in a classic science-fiction vein. Ultimately, however, the whole thing is based around the concepts of Buddhism.5-0 out of 5 stars Peter Davison at his finest
When I read a review for "Kinda,"all I heard was that Janet Fielding was real great in it and such praise like that. So, when I watched it, I found (to my delight) that most of the companions really didn't do much in this story.Nyssa mainly sleeps though the adventure in the TARDIS,Tegan has weird dreams and gets possessed, and Adric is trapped in the dome with the psychos.Who, in my opinion, really shines in this story is Peter Davison. While he gave a great performance in "Castrovalva," he had not established what his Doctor was going to be like.In "Kinda," we get our first look at the Fifth Doctor's personae.Doctor Todd is another outstanding character in the story, and is the Doctor's stand-in companion during this adventure. There's of course little things like huge rubber snakes that strain your suspended disbelief, but that's part of Doctor Who.Any fan of the Fifth Doctor or Peter Davison should watch this. ... Editorial Review

Forty years after being separated by war and circumstance, a couple meet again and stubbornly resist their feelings for each other, thus forming the premise of this early '90s BBC comedy. Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer are marvelously deadpan in this trio of 27-minute episodes infused with humor by turns tart and gentle. Writer Bob Larbey deliciously skewers youth, old age, and the publishing industry, beginning with the first episode of this volume, in which some misinformed picketers dub Lionel an elephant killer as he attempts to lecture on his African experiences. Jean and her daughter Judith make a surprise appearance, only to meet Lionel's "date" for the evening, inspiring a miffed Jean to accept the attentions of Lionel's much-younger publisher, Alistair. The complications continue in the second episode, with Alistair courting Jean and twice-divorced Judith making a play for her mother's former love. The love quadrangle busts apart in the final episode when Jean and Lionel--tiring of their young admirers--dream up a picnic for the foursome with the hopes of boring Alistair and Judith into each other's arms. 5-0 out of 5 stars Jean and Lionel find they are not too old to be flattered
The assumption is that you would only pick up Volume 2 of the BBC Comedy "At Time Goes By" having acquainted yourself with Jean (Judi Dench) and Lionel (Geoffrey Palmer) in Volume 1.In this next set of three episodes we find that fate, having brought together the former dashing young British Army officer and the lovely student nurse he fell in love with 38 years earlier, now conspires to keep them from getting back on track.True, the initial impediment is Jean's inability to admit she has any feelings worth rekindling, but some parallel problems are put on the plate in these episodes as Jean is pursued relentlessly by younger man Alistair (Philip Bretherton) while her daughter Judith (Moira Brooker) decides that Lionel is "gorgeous."5-0 out of 5 stars AS Time Goes By - Vol 2
This is one of the best series on television. The writing and the acting are superb. One of the many attractions of this series is that some of the conversations between the two main characters, Lionel and Jean, are conversations that ring true for any couple that has know each other for a long time. I find myself recognizing and laughing at comments that could have come out of my own life, or those of my friends and family.I own all seven videos in this series, and am eagerly awaiting the next release from BBC.I agree with "fundaddy", though:Why isn't this series on DVD?

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every pretty penny!
I love every one of the volumes in this series.Series acting has never been so good and the writing is also superb. The price is hefty, but I don't regret it for a second. These episodes are definitely worth watching many times. My only complaint is - Where's the DVD version? Why is BBC wasting time only releasing VHS? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lionel and Jean finally admit they remember each other
I actually have a complaint about "As Time Goes By," the British comedy about a second chance at love and laughter starring Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer.I cannot stand the laugh track. In the opening minute of Episode 1 the laugh track is employed several times and I am wondering what I missed that was so funny. On more than one occasion in my life I have been the only one laughing in a theater at something, and I laugh all the time while watching shows on television alone down here in my little office, so I do not need to be prompted on when to laugh at something. For a while I thought maybe I did not appreciate the British sense of humor as much as I thought I did, but I am pretty sure that is not the case. The bottom line is that "As Time Goes By" does not need the bloody laugh track.5-0 out of 5 stars You'll get hooked
This is the very beginning of a series that will knock your socks off. Dame Judi Dench plays Jean, a very strong, witty, and sexy older woman. Geoffrey Palmer portrays Lionel, a frustrating but lovable older man with a quick sarcastic wit. If you like British sitcoms, light comedies, soap operas, and good story lines, then you will like "As Time Goes By". Volume 1 sets up the series and gives you the premise of the story. The series gets increasingly better, and draws you in. It's really refreshing to see lovers that are older and realistic. Give this a try, you won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Britain's Best Export In 30 Years

    Editorial Review

Basil Fawlty, as created and performed by John Cleese, is the rudest, most boorish, most hilariously obnoxious man on the face of the planet. What a natural for a TV sitcom! His screen wife, Sybil (Prunella Scales), put it best in the episode "The Psychiatrist": "You're either crawling all over them, licking their boots, or spitting poison at them like some Benzedrine puff adder." He mockingly replies, "Just trying to enjoy myself, dear." With his gangly frame and contortionist abilities, Cleese brilliantly punctuates Basil's outrageous faux pas with absurd gymnastics and turns Three Stooges-style pokes and kicks into a slapstick ballet. Scales's Sybil is the genial but obliviously chatty voice of reason and Andrew Sachs mangles the English language as the Spanish bellhop Manuel, whose struggles with simple directions results in comic lunacy reminiscent of Robert Benigni. After a six-episode run in 1975, Cleese and cowriter and costar Connie Booth (who plays Polly, the maid all too often pulled into Basil's ridiculous plans) reunited the cast in 1979 for another six episodes without missing a punch line. The four-volume collection contains all 12 shows, interspersed with interview segments featuring Cleese discussing the genesis of the series and anecdotes about the individual episodes. Remember to watch the opening credits of each show to spot the creative misspellings on the hotel sign (my favorite: "Fatty Owls"). Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic that never gets old
In my opinion, it's a toss-up between this and Blackadder as the greatest British comedy of all time. Warning: this complete set includes rather lengthy (and not always interesting) interviews with John Cleese before every episode. If you have no interest in the script-writing process or Cleese's relationship with the actor who played Manuel, then that might be a minor bother you'll have to fast forward through. But even so- this is a great series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely hilarious
This is some of John Cleese's best work! Cleese plays Basil Fawlty: a singularly inhospitable manager of a small hotel. He takes bad customer service to the ridiculous extreme. It is uproariously funny to watch the terrible mess he causes for himself. The good writing, well designed cast of characters, snappy timing, and witty dialogue had me hooked from the first episode. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Monty Python's Flying Circus, British humour, or just laughing in general!

If you are reading this and wondering what the heck a "S Club 7" actually is, then you are probably a fan of either Rachel Stevens or Hannah Spearritt looking for things they did early in their careers. Rachel and Hannah appear to be the only members of the cast who have been visible in the industry since the BBC show ended and the group broke up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun is one word that springs to mind!
You know someone once said that Resurrection of the Daleks cheapened Dr.Who because it was a shoot-em-up that was trying to be like a Rambo film! Well, that story at least had quality production and a scene where the Doctor agonized over having to use guns and ultimately, a down beat ending where he pondered his violent life style and thought he needed to consider "changing his ways".4-0 out of 5 stars Contact has been made!
It's the year 5000, the year of the Great Breakout. The Doctor is fighting for his mind in this story. After answering a mayday from Titan Base, inbetween Jupiter and Saturn, the Doctor comes across some personnel who are infected with a virus. One can tell due to the fuzzy gray and white around their eyes and forehead, and the mechanical voice they speak.Whenever someone is infected, that person utters, "Contact has been made!"The Doctor too is infected... but not Leela. Why not me, she wonders? Is it due to her being all instinct and intuition?Indeed, her sensing something evil in the beginning of the story is true to her hunting instincts. That's nothing compared to the fact that due to the Doctor's intelligence, his mind is ideal serving as the host of the Nucleus of the virus.5-0 out of 5 stars "Contact has been made..."

2-0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness it wasn't a series
The only good thing I have to say about this video is that as the only Dr. Who spin-off, it does have some nostalga value. Other than that I found it trite and not very well executed. K-9 is supposed to the the star (at least that's what the title leads us too belive) and apart from his usual vulcan-esquse logical statements all he does is blast a few people. 3-0 out of 5 stars "The program will continue..."
"The Horns of Nimon" is really a mixed-bag. Tom Baker and Graham Crowden play it for laughs, while Lalla Ward plays it dead straight. The serial has a real cheap feel to the production. The Nimons themselves are laughable when first seen. They look like giant cockroaches with lanky legs. Some of the sets are convincing, while others are not. Malcolm Terris as the co-pilot is wonderfully OTT. The secens where Romana lands on Crinoth are very effective. But, the supporting cast, especially the actors with no lines, lazilly sleepwalk through most of their staging. "The Horns of Nimon" might arguably be the worst of Season 17, but with an open mind and a few beers, this adventure might make even the most discriminating Who fan look twice.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good but not Great Journey Of Life
En route to repairing the TARDIS, the Doctor and Romana crash with a rundown Skonnon battlecruiser bringing some unhappy Anethan youths in yellow karate outfits as tributes to the Nimon, the god of the Skonnos, a military dictatorship revelling in black fascist regalia. The leader of the Anethans is a youth named Seth, whom one of the girls, Teka, believes is a hero who will defeat the Nimon.Teka's devotion is a bit too much, as she expects too much of him.4-0 out of 5 stars the most UNDERrated show on Television Period
Although I can't really rate it five stars, I can rate it four. This is a good adventure that probably few love, many hate, and most don't even know about(even so-called whoivans don't know it).It has an excellent cast of character actors and cool sets and back drops. The story is about a race of bull/buffalo-like humanoids who use black holes to traverse from place to place. What I like is not it's "realism" but its fun factor and humor. The atmosphere is farout as well.I first watched this as a kid and loved it all the way through highschool it was broadcast many times then fatefully, Doctor Who was banned from PBS in the US 1988 Feburary 27th and I never got to see it again until now. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Jean and Lionel try to avoid the inevitable a bit longer
There is a definite change of perspective on Volume 3 of "As Time Goes By," the BBC Comedy. This is the story of Jean Pargetter (Judi Dench) and Lionel Hardcastle (Geoffrey Palmer), who are reunited 38 years after the mail between England and Korea derailed their ardent love affair. Now they have a second change for happiness if only they can get on the same page.In the previous volume there were cross-generational complications as Jean was pursued by younger man Alistair Deacon (Philip Bretherton) while her daughter Judith (Moira Brooker) decided that Lionel was worth considering (a faux love triangle that was worth pursuing at least as long as they did Alistar's pursuit of Jean). In the four episodes presented on Volume 3 the younger folks are finally starting to pay attention to each other and now the only thing standing between Jean and Lionel are Jean and Lionel.Consequently, we have them spending a lot of time looking for excuses to avoid the inevitable.5-0 out of 5 stars So sad that they stopped taping this show after ten seasons
This is absolutely the most wonderfully written and acted British comedy series ever aired in the US! And between Geoffrey Palmer as Lionel and Philip Bretherton as Alistair (who happens to be gorgeous), I cannot imagine a show with handsomer leading men!Of course, JudiDench is no slouch either and Moira Brooker is really charming, so there'san excellent cast. The writing is very good - subtle humor and warmth that youdon't normally get from Britcoms. I can't help but gush - buy all of the videos and get to know these people!

5-0 out of 5 stars The romance continues for Jean and Lionel
Tender, funny and charming story of Jean and Lionel, lovers during the Korean war, who meet again 38 years later.Volume 3 contains 4 episodes of the British TV comedy. In episode 1, Lionel's book about his life in Kenyais about to be published and he is is scheduled for a photo shoot for thecover of the book.Jean goes along for moral support, neither of themknowing that the photographer has planned for Lionel to wearsafari gear, with a half-dressed woman hanging on his leg.Lionel is appalled - afterall, he was a coffee planter, not the great white hunter! Episode 2 hasJudith's adult daughter planning a weekend out of town so that Jean andLionel will have the house "all to themselves" - a situation towhich neither knows how to react. In episode 3, Lionel is having troubledealing with his "old age".He and Jean take a trip to visitLionel's 85-year-young father who is planning to remarry, and advisesLionel to do likewise. In Episode 4, Lionel's book is nearly ready to bereleased.Everyone knows the book is dull, but Alistair, Lionel'spublisher, is taking an unusual amount of interest in Lionel and his bookand Lionel wants to know why. ... Editorial Review

"Planet ofGiants" opened the second season of Doctor Who with William Hartnell's Doctor and companions Susan, Barbara and Ian finding themselves in a mysterious labyrinth filled with dead giant ants. A TARDIS malfunction has left the travellers an inch high and they have landed in the cracks in a garden path, part of a testing ground for an insecticide which could trigger a biological apocalypse. The plot combines the urgent warning of Rachel Carson's 1962 environmental landmark Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "What sort of a world can produce an insect...THAT size?"
Before the TARDIS materialises on contemporary Earth, the doors open in the Control Room causing both the Doctor and Susan to worry like Ian & Barbara have never seen before. Leaving the TARIDS, they run into giant insects and earthworms...dead. The crew of the TARDIS has been reduced to inch in height and have to contend with 2 criminals intent on distributing a lethal garden herbicide. Before Jon Pertwee's socially aware sci-fi serials, there was "Planet of Giants". Though, nothing to scream about, this 3 part serial can be very enjoyable. And the video-look and clean-up job that the Doctor Who Restoration Team did is wonderful, giving a very sharp visual feel to the adventure, approximating the lost video look all b/w Doctor Who serials originally had. The production, for 1965(and Doctor Who), is actually impressive. The regulars(original cast)are also good. Though, it moves a little slow, shouldn't deter any Who fan from adding it to their collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Honey, I shrunk the TARDIS!
It's nice to know that while DVD is taking over the home video market, the BBC is not forgetting it's loyal fans around the world who have been loyaly collecting the VHS tapes since the late 90's. With only 10 or so more to go the rest should be out here in the US by the end of 2004.3-0 out of 5 stars Not the finest example of DOCTOR WHO, but still great fun.
While perhaps not the finest example of DOCTOR WHO in the 1960s (the serial suffers from a weak plot and a story that was difficult to carry out convincingly on the series' limited budget and production schedule), PLANET OF GIANTS is still great fun.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars an eye sore and a bore to boot.
Like a lot of the 1972 pertwee stuff this was flat and had a lot of extra scenes of running around and Pertwee action which was lame and snoozer boring. The Three-wheeler(3-wheeled motorcycle called a "rover" in Europe I think) was not a novel Idea and not inovative or high tech with the added sound effects(a mini moog or some such.)Yet you see it a lot and Pertwee and Manning straddled to it(Mister Rogers Nieghborhood style nudge nudge) the running around and dodging bullets gets boring after the first few episodes.Personally I liked the first Pertwee season(1970) 71 being second on my list for quality. The others were just filler crap. But if you like the James Bond style DW it is better than the current excuse for Who???

5-0 out of 5 stars Briefly...the high points!
Here is one of the top doctors (in my opinion) - Jon Pertwee - in his spendid mixture of impishness, imperiousness, seriousness and all at a slight remove from direct involvement in the ongoing situation. And with a very vivid script for Jo Grant, as well! This episode combines a number of real-life preoccupations with an invasion by Daleks allied with humans while subjugating humans. The good points are just packed in and make this a prize among Doctor episodes. And watch for a classic comment from the Brigadier "...all of them!"

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Just another day
Nice tight story this without much of the waste that characterised a number of the Pertwee third Doctor Stories.Read more
