Take a chill pill
It's just a cartoon.It's good to see another side of MJ.I don't see how it's terribly terrible for the kids.Have you seen Pirates?Now, that's over-the-top.

My daughter was shown this movie in her public school classroom several times while she was in grade school. It wasn't until years later that I saw it, and I was HORRIFIED!!! This was a movie aimed at children??? What does a children's movie need a sexy bunny for? The lead female character was a very sexy bunny wearing skimpy clothing and "strutting her stuff" on the basketball court in a very provocative manner, until the male characters were panting, drooling, and clawing their way after her like a bunch ofsick, depraved perverts. This scene was highly innapropriate for children, and is NOT the idea of womanhood that should be shown to boys or girls. Not only that, the idea was put forward that only a fortune teller with a crystal ball was able to discern the truth about what happened to the players abilities. This movie should be kept far, far away from children, and was truly deserving of zero stars.

Great teaching video for caches and players
John Wooden's video Teaching Kids Basketball is a great video for coaches and players.It gives good insight to one of the greatest coaches in modern times.My video starts out kinda choppy, and skips, but then it plays fine after that. Coach Wooden has both college players and young kids in the video. I've read quit a few basketball books, but I get the most out of videos. I like to watch them again and again to learn the coach's strategy.Coach Wooden's drills are good for any coach to use during their practices. He's an excellent fundamentals coach.It's a pretty long tape 70 min in length.

Great choice for coaches
Many coaches today can gain a wealth of information from what Coach Wooden has to offer. Too many times have coaches gone in search of the "perfect" video. This video may not have all the drills you want or all the concepts of the game. It has something to offer that many others can't, Coach John Wooden's awesome perspective on the game of basketball. Excellent choice for a coach.

I think that the majority of kids out there get poor instruction from fathers or, most likely, get no instruction at all.Any coach out there that complains that this tape shows a drill and yet that does'nt help himbecause he doesn't know what to do with "the other eight kids" isnot going to get anything out of this tape.Fact is, that you must havesome basic knowledge of coaching and running practices for this tape to betruly effective; or you should see it as a way to indoctrinate goodfundamentals (more importantly, good thinking and philosopy: "The twomost important things in life are Love and Balance.") with your child. REAL DREAMS OFBASKETBALL HOPEFULS
I love this movie.It's a true look at what is really going on for two young kids trying to do something with a talent God has given them.A up and down look at a journey thats isn't always as easy as some NBA players make it seem to be.A real look at how it takes more than just good stats to make it in a Big Man's Game.
Criterion Collection - Missing Something!!!
My family has ownd the Hoops Dreams VHS for quite sometime and we were thrilled to hear that it would be coming out on DVD. We purchased the Criterion collection and watched the story as attentively as we did the first time. We are heavily involved in youth sports, including AAU basketball. We have even give the VHS to several kids as gifts. This movie has a message that allows kids to learn by example. Those hoop dreams are fun to have but in reality, there are so few who ever make it to the NBA. This documentary shows kids that working hard on the court can guarantee a free private high school education and then a college education. It's not always about getting to the NBA.
Great documentary
very inspiring documentary not only for aspiring basketball players but for anyone with a dream. Besides being so real and powerful, I think this is a masterpiece of filmmaking. Beautifully shot in the projects of chicago, the feel and look of the film was what I though made Hoop Dreams so real. The film was shot in analog video and then transfered to 35mm, and the editing they did is really amazing. They had years worth of footage and could have made this a 30 hour film, but they put it together nicely. Anyway shots like a man playing ball with his son and then walking away to go buy drugs make this a great documentary ... Read more

A delayed season got under way at the beginning of 1999, with a schedule of 50 games in about as many days. What was normally a marathon turned into a sprint because of the NBA lockout. San Antonio had a slow start but overcame it by pulling together a string of admirable team performances that helped them win 31 of their last 36 games, catapulting them into the playoffs with a home-court advantage. On a roll, they blasted through the T-Wolves, the Lakers, and the Trail Blazers, winning 12 playoff games in a row. In the final they deposed a gritty New York team in similar fashion. Read more

Sporty love story
I don't get into sports movies very much but this is a good one.You can see the difference in the support for women in sports than men in sports.Good little love story and I LOVE SANAA LATHAN in all her movies, she is a great actress I am looking for her to be nominated for an oscar one day, she tries to pick good roles for herself and by the way the movie "Something New" that she was in is EXCELLENT I watch it over and over and over.The best love story I have seen with a good flow.Any way back to Love and Basketball, I agree with one of the reviewer it is quite detailed and realistic, Sanaa portays her character quite well.This is a wonderful sports movie for anyone.

One of THE best modern love stories of all time!
I recently bought the "Love and Basketball" DVD together with "Something New" (another stellar movie starring Sanaa Lathan, by the way).Watching this movie again after 5+ years, I was reminded of why I absolutely fell in LOVE with L&B in the first place.So many things that Monica and Q experienced in each "Quarter" of the movie brought back memories of my own high school and college experiences. In many ways, L&B was a real coming-of-age movie for me.(Not to mention that the soundtrack is a fabulous trip down musical memory-lane).
"Double or nothing..."
Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan shine in this film about two young lovers drawn together by their love of the game.Monica (Lathan) is a girl with big dreams, dreams that no one but herself believes she can acheive.Her mother (Woodard) wants her to quit her tomboy stage and become a lady, to be more like her sister, but Monica is determined to be the first female in the NBA.Quincy (Epps) was raised by a former NBA star himself and so the love of the game is in his blood, and so are the skills he needs to succeed.As kids Monica and Quincy are neighbors and at each others throats.They continue that way until one night, after both are in high school, they realize their relationship is more than platonic.They enter college as a power couple.They both tear up the courts and are both dedicated and driven, but when family issues (taking the form of Quincy's cheating father) interupt their unity and disturb Quincy's ability to trust the ones he loves, they're driven apart and all seems lost.This is a brilliant film about the power of real love.My wife and I were in tears at the end of this film.This is a truly underestimated film, but it really reaches the heart and stays there for the entire film.Sanaa Lathan is a great actress who really puts it all out there.You feel her blood sweat and tears and she strives to make it in a male dominated sport, and then you feel her pain and emotion as she loses the man she loves and fears she'll never have him again.Highly recommended! ... good but not long or detailed enough

Champions Now and forever
This tape documents Duke's dream run threw the 2001 NCAA tournament.This route was in fact the same route taken in 1992 when they won it all that year. This video does an excellent job of giving a complete summary of the two final four games and the championship game pitting Duke agaisnt Arizona.Still I found this video to be a let down due to the fact it does not show the complete NCAA championship game.This video is over seventeen dollars but is only fifty four minutes.If it had shown the entire championship game it would of been worth the cost but it did not.If you want to see championship game worth your time and money get ESPN classic.

Summed Up, Who MJ really is
I watched this movie during my first year of doing graduate study. It really moved me. Not only it tells us the story of how Michael achieve his greatness, but also how we can come back to achieve even more great accomplishments.
AMAZING!
Being the MJ fan that I am, I have seen quiet a lot of movies about Jordan, and really I must say that this is one of the best, it has all those moves that just make MJ the great player that he is, I mean the way he moves with the ball, its just amazing, and unlike some other movies, this one doesnt waste long time on people talking, but shows what MJ is all about BASKETBALL.

Great teaching video for coaches and players
Mike Krzyzewski's video is one of the best videos I have brought to date.He starts with some basic drills with kids and then with Tommy Amaker, his point guard from Duke during the 84-87 seasons.He moves to more advanced drills until he teaches a five on five drill.For coaches, the drills themselves are worth the money for this video. You have to watch this video over and over to understand some of his advanced points. Watching this video will give you some insight to how one of the best college coaches run their practice.

No effort!
This film had no effort put into it.With so many great players to talk about, it was a particularily dry film.The selection of clips that were supposed to offer insight into the players greatness were often poorly chosen, while little information was uncovered.This movie only has a purpose if you want to know who was actually on the team, but nothing else will be gained from this film.Noteworthy is the absence of Clyde Drexler and Christian Laettner, because this film was made in 1991---before the two were named to the team and a whole year before the team played their first game.

Eight months after the U.S. Mens Basketball team lost to the Soviet Union in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, the rules were changed and NBA players became eligible for international competition.However, this was not done because the United States applied pressure after its team of college players lost to the "amateur" Soviet Union players, but rather because around the world the best basketball players from every nation were turning professional (look how many Europeans were at this year's NBA All-Star game).What anybody remembers from the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona (after they used an archer to light the torch) is the performance of "The Dream Team."The games and the gold medal were a forgone conclusion, so the real pleasure was simply watching the best basketball players in the world play together on a team; a team, that actually practiced, unlike for the All-Star Game.For fans seeing Magic Johnson and Larry Bird play together on the same team was good enough and then you throw Michael Jordan into the mix.Given what we have seen at the Olympics since then, this remains the greatest basketball team ever assembled and most of us will probably not be around long enough to see a better one.Quibbling over how the team could have been better is a minor debate, once you get past the fact Christian Laettner was picked as the long college player instead of Shaquille O'Neal; dollars to donuts the other 11 will all make the Hall of Fame.This 73-minute documentary covers the entire experience and there is really nothing special (except maybe Charles Barkley's bad boy exploits) here because the idea of the Dream Team was always better than the actual experience.Now every four years we see lesser "Dream Teams" take the court for the United States, while the gap lessens between them and the rest of the world.Probably not until the U.S. loses another game will we see the best American players from the N.B.A. answer the call again like they did that first time in Barcelona. ... the best 2000 lakers team

Good DVD, but save your money
Regardless of what Laker haters may think, the LA Lakers totally deserved their NBA championship in 1999-00. I knew when Phil Jackson got named in as their coach, they would win a title the very same year. Have you noticed why Shaq & Kobe are called "the combo"? Together on the lakers they pulled a 1-2 punch that was unstoppable. I'll never forget that last play of the Western Conference Finals in 2000 against the Portland Trailblazers. Kobe moves with speed & grace of a running back. When he swerved and cut his way inside by the basket on a layup, I knew that Shaq would slam it in.
Got lucky
The only reason this video even exists is because LA got lucky. There was doubt that the Portland Trailblazers were the better team, and they had that Game 7 in the bag, until the officals decided to help the Lakers back into the game so they could have them in the finals to keep the ratings up. No one wanted to see the old Portland Trailblazers in the finals against the Pacers. You had to have the circus freak Lakers in there with Kobe and Shaq to keep the little kids happy. Remember, this was the first full NBA season following the embarressing lockout-shortening season where the ratings took a nosedive. Read more

Jordan, the early years
If you have any doubt who the greatest basketball player of all time is, watch this video. This film was made nearly 15 years ago and it still wows me. I'm from Chicago so it is a Windy City bias. But it is true he is the best. Before the championships and him beating the Bad Boys, Jordan dazzled fans all over the nation with his 360 dunks, sick layups, incredible game winning shots and his winning attitude is what made up of Jordan before he won his six titles. This video also details his early life with his family, his daily battles on his families Basketball court with his older brother Larry. Him getting cut from his varsity high school team and his eventuall stardom at Laney high school. His successful run at North Carolina, with star teamates, James Worthy and Sam Perkins. Him winning the 1982 NCAA title against Patrick Ewing's Georgetown. Also relives his 1984 Olympic gold medal. Him being drafted third by the Bulls. Being passed over by the Portland TrailBlazers for.... Sam Bowie!!! The video also goes over Micheal's dramtic rise into stardom in 1984-85 where he won Rookie Of The Year. He then breaks his foot in early 1986 and he came all the way back, despite the Bulls front office telling him not to do it.He came back with fire, when in the 1986 playoffs, he scored 63 points against a team with four hall of famers, Bill Walton, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, and of course, Larry Bird. This video is a gem to own, for any basketball fans, and MJ fans. Also, you can find this video on the Ultimate Jordan DVD collection, which I also own. You will love it.

Hog heaven for Razorback fans
The 1994 Arkansas Razorbacks were dubbed as "40 minutes of hell." That proved to be true enough for the opponents that ran into them that year. The participants in the title game were Duke, who beat Florida in the National Semifinals, and, of course, the Razorbacks, who knocked off Arizona to get to the National Championship game. Coach Mike Krzyzewski (I hope I got that spelling correct because I'm not taking another stab at it) said that his 1994 team wasn't great, but it was good and with a lot of heart. Surprisingly, this not so great team stayed right with the Hogs for a great deal of the contest. The game was very much in doubt until, the Arkansas shooting ace, Scotty Thurman, rainbowed in a shot from downtown, thus ensuring a victory for Arkansas University victory. ... Read more

The Best NBA Year in Review Ever Done For VHS
This tape shows a number of NBA teams who improved their win totals from the previous year.It shows the New York Knicks success in winning its first division title in nearly a decade, the Phoneix Suns 30+ win improvent, due to the coach of the year Cotton Fitzsimmons, and the improvement of the Clevland Caveliers.Even though those NBA were improving to contenders, there were few teams who were losing players or lost players that season.Larry Bird presence was missed on the court, because of foot injuries, even though the Celtics homecourt dominance was still evident.This video also does a good job in showing how much respect and sympathy most NBA teams show to Kareem Abdul Jabbar's last 20 th season.
