5-0 out of 5 stars Lovin' it!!!!!
Hey I just got this today and loved it! This is exactly what I was looking for in a ballet video. It's basically like having class at home, and even though you do have to make sure to do a few of the exercises on your other leg on your own, it takes two seconds to go back with a DVD player and play the exercise again. It was clear, concise, and perfect for anyone looking to do some barwork at home (especially if you happen to miss class!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely pleased with this video
This is EXACTLY the type of ballet video that I have been looking for.Having taken dance for 8 years in my childhood-teen years, I was familiar with the steps.I am an adult now and I wanted to get back into dance, but I didn't want to go to a class to do that. The first time I watched it, I was pleased with what I saw.The instructor gives the name of each set of steps as the dancer does them throughout the video.Granted, you have to back it up each time you want to do the opposite side sometimes, but it's really not difficult when you have a dvd player. The dancer does do a lot of the center work on both sides. Each chapter is a different set of movements that the dancer performs. You can forward to each chapter through the menu if you choose to skip around. The dancer starts at the bar and then moves to the floor. It's not too strenuous, it's simple exercise. There are no jazzercise moves in this video. It's ballet plain and simple (which is what I have been searching for). It's not too difficult to do these steps and I have not been discouraged at all since I started using this video. I highly recommend this dvd.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Follow with Past Ballet Lessons
I did ballet as a child for many years and wanted to teach my stepdaughter....it was very helpful in helping me remember the names of the ballet steps and the basic moves! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, Interesting, Absurd & Totally Rockin'!
This is a video documentary of the making of the Short Bus Album and the resulting 1 1/2 year tour around the world to promote Short Bus (Filter's hit debut album featuring "Hey Man Nice Shot). There are some hard to find music videos contained on this video (Hey Man Nice Shot, Dose, and Jurassitol) and a bunch of live concert performances, including "Hey Man Nice Shot", "Dose", and "Stuck in Here" (there are more but I can't remember all of them, but the live scenes comprehensively cover the album). There are also scenes from when Liesgang and Patrick recorded the album in an impromptu studio designed by Patrick and located in a rented Cleveland house. Some great interviews and behind the scenes footage of the making of Short Bus, the selection of the band (including Geno and Frank - they keep changing the drummers!), and highlights of the tour, including, Leisgang getting popped in the mouth with Geno's guitar handle on stage, the boys chucking beer cans out a hotel window in Portugal, and Patrick and Frank getting a tetanus shot (fans of Richie Patrick will particularly like this scene). Great interviews, funny scenes, insight into the band, awesome music, and great performances. Stuff for both diehard Filter fans (whose collection won't be complete without this video), and fans who like good rock music.

CORRECTION: Amazon.com says that this video is 60 minutes long, it's actually 93 minites long. It's pretty damn cool it what it is.93 minutes of some pretty damn funny stuff, and some cool stuff two. There's some footage of some live shows from all over the world, interviews of how Filter got started, and a bouns 20 minutes in the end of an awesome feed-back fest at an Ozzy Oborne concert.4 music videos are included. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best From The Best!
I own over fifty ballet videos and this is the one I keep pulling off the shelf. The white swan pas de duex with Natalia Makarova is worth buying the video alone. The seven selections are wonderful and the dancing is near perfect. What I can never seem to get over is how from the classical to the romantic each dancer understands the hues and shadows that each era has woven into its tradition. The American companies tend to dance each era as if they were all from the classical/Petipa era.Dance lovers will appreciate the subtleties and be under the dancers spell start to finish. ... Editorial Review

When Cirque du Soleil first ventured beyond Canada's borders, itspowerful, singularly ambitious "reinvention of the circus" seemed quixotic. Inspired by European precedents, this was a big top downsized to a more intimate, single ring, as the French-Canadian troupe jettisoned animals, banished the usual fright-wigged clowns in favor of funny folks versed in (gulp) pantomime, and focused on acrobats, contortionists, and illusionists.Conventional wisdom would have held that such esoterica was doomed, but anyone lucky enough to catch that initial Cirque production (or, for that matter, any of its subsequent offerings) knows just how wrong conventional wisdom can be.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eminently entertaining
After watching "Varekai," "Dralion," "Alegria," "Journey of Man" and other DVDs, I can safely say this is my favorite Cirque du Soleil show. Anyone familiar with Cirque du Soleil's training camp show on TV's Bravo knows there is a similarity to most of their shows, so details and subtle differences are important when distinguishing among them. With "Quidam," the music is perfect for the show, the performances are exceptional, the costumes are brilliant and the plot is the most delightful. I've seen this live once and liked it so much I might go back. I cannot find much about the DVD to criticize either because it is filmed very adroitly, the picture and sound quality are outstanding and it is presented in anamorphic widescreen. Suitable for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Elaborate
I grew up in vegas so I had the oppurtunity to watch the cirque shows that are still ongoing and thanks to Bravo network I was able to see Quidam and a few others offered on Amazon.
2-0 out of 5 stars My Personal Opinion of Quidam
I will try to make this relatively short.I have seen a few performances of Cirque du Soleil on DVDs and TV.Quidam was filmed in Amsterdam and it shows more of an artsy performance then one I figured I would get with Cirque du Soleil. Also, the performance is subtitled in English (and a variety of other languages) which makes it more difficult to follow and watch.Overall, I did not like it too much.I labored through much of the performance wanting it to be over. The other few DVDs and shows I have seen had much more comedy and breaks in the performance.Quidam showed a very different view of Cirque du Soleil. ... Just finished watching Montage'The Nightlife Tour and it was, Absolutely Fabulous. Exciting, colourful and so enjoyable. All the image overlays do is add to the excitement of what must of been a fabulous tour. Wish I could have seen them but I'm so glad to have this"Montage: The Nightlife Tour" Yes!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
Stunning, simply breathtaking in every way. Visually very exciting, a real treat for fans like me who can't travel long distances to see shows like this. Musically quite adventurous. Many of the songs are performed using different arrangements than the original versions, so it's not like just sitting down and watching promotional videos. I especially like the acoustic portion, and the performance of Young Offender ( I never liked the version on VERY andnever listened to the words, which are incredible, so this version is something of a revelation.) This DVD is in stark contrast to PSB's other concert "Somewhere", so if you're expecting lots of backstage footage and a straightforward visual experience, you won't find it here.
2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Visuals - But The Sound is WOEFUL
The visuals are interesting (when you can see them in the dark), however:

5-0 out of 5 stars Showcases the chameleon that is Janet!
Spanning ten years from 1986 until 1996, this DVD compiles all of the great videos of that period from "Control to Janet"

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect but they forgot one video
The collection is so good because it's finally all of the control, and Rhythum Nation videos. And the extended That's the way love goes video and the whoops now video. But they released it to soon because three months after this was released she came out with the video Twenty Foreplay and I really want to see that video.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful classic that established janet as a legend
and an inspiration for other r&b/dance divas who came afterwards. This DVD is all about the music, the messages and the dances expressed through the art of music video which was a relatively new form of marketing music at the time these videos came out. Each song had a signature choreography routine and is the foundation of what established janet as a superstar with a spectacular music career that is still going strong. Although she hasn't made videos as consistent as the ones on this compilations, her recent videos are also great to watch as janet explores with her sexuality, experiments with different images both in video concepts and looks and has fun dancing. It's like her videos are still autobiographical but we need the dancing back once again like displayed on this compilatoin though i understand she is an experimental artist who tries different things with her music and the art of music video. ... After having seen quite a few exercise and instructional videos on belly dancing, I rate this one highly. This is the best of both worlds: great stretching, along with a well-done, not boring, instructional. With some videos, you get too much repetition of one movement. You will not with this one ... and this tape will not sit on your shelf after the first viewing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Petite Dynamo
Filmed in 1988 at the Miami Arena, with a sold-out, enthusiastic audience, Gloria Estefan is a marvel in this well-filmed concert from the early days of her incredibly successful career. The musicianship of the Miami Sound Machine is also terrific, and they put on a show that is full of energy and pizzazz. Gloria looks stupendous, with flawless skin and a glorious mane of hair, with 2 skin-tight costume changes, and an electric personality. My favorite piece is the stupendous "Conga," and Gloria dedicates "Words Get in the Way" to "The Ballad King," Julio Iglesias, who is in the audience, and takes a bow. There are 2 medleys sung in Spanish, as well as part of "Anything for You," and the rest is sung in English. The guys in the Miami Sound Machine deserve a lot of credit, and they are: Bass: Jorge Casas, keyboards: Clay Ostwald and Jim Trompeter, percussion: Rafael Padilla, trombone: Teddy Mulet, trumpet: Randy Barlow, guitar: John De Farria, sax: Mike Scaglione, and drums: Kiki Garcia. The audio and visual quality is very good, and total running time is 80 minutes.
5-0 out of 5 stars This needs to be on DVD
This is the best of Gloria--this definitely needs to be on DVD. Like others have said, this was classic gloria from the late 80s, when she was young & had energy--like all of us once did. That is why we buy these things to remember.PUT THIS OUT ON DVD!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stone Roses - The complete stone roses
This album is a classic - world class!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Turns into Stone" plus alternative takes
About one-half of "The Complete Stone Roses" includes all of the songs (except "Simone") comprising "Turns to Stone," with the exception that "Fools Gold" (the full version, of course, is available on the U.S. version of the debut), "One Love" and "Something Burning" are abridged to eliminate most of the instrumental part, so that all 21 songs can fit.In my review of "Turns to Stone" (which I also gave four stars) I mentioned how the early Stone Roses songs, as well as the B-sides, clearly demonstrate how they were influenced by poppy sixties bands such as Herman's Hermits and Gerry and the Pacemakers on the one hand, and psychedelic bands such as The Byrds and Jefferson Airplane on the other. But, especially with their monumental debut album, the Stone Roses would incredibly expand their sound, and influence so many British bands that followed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A personally moving experience
The four ballets presented on this tape show not just the Ailey company at its best, but serve as a sort of testament to Ailey himself. Two of the works ("Divining" and "The Stack-Up") are works by two choreographers among many Ailey made a "home" for; the former work is by former Ailey dancer and current Artistic Director Judith Jamison, the latter by the late Katherine Dunham protege Talley Beatty. The whole reason I bought the tape though, was for "Cry," Ailey's 1971 tour-de-force orginally created for Judith Jamison. Though the soloist recorded here (Deborah Manning) is more than equal to the task, I will still always wish I had had the opportunity to see Jamison dance it in person. ... Read more

My daughter,2 1/2, loves ballet, and loves the story of Cinderella. I thought this would be similar to the wonderful video, "I want to be a ballerina", wrong. It is a little scary and surreal with blurry color footage, and a slightly dated appearance. She now enjoys it, but we had to explain the characters and why the fairy godmother looks like a homeless women who just emerged from the sewer. 4-0 out of 5 stars Shaping it Up for the Big Time
One of my personal favourites of all Roxette video releases.I'm very lucky to even have a copy where I come from, as it has become very rare, even 7 or 8 years ago.5-0 out of 5 stars Really Nice Video
It's got entertaining music videos at the beginning, followed by parts of a concert, but I think the sound at the concert must've been bad, because most of the songs on the video are album versions, and the ones that aren't, the sound is a bit off.But they show a lot of nice, close shots on Marie (my crush since junior high!).And it has "Silver Blue", one of my favourite songs of all time!
