5-0 out of 5 stars Why hasn't this been released on DVD?
I absolutely love this short-film from my childhood. A companion addition to the seven videos from Rhythm Nation, the movie of the same name expands the earliest videos from Rhythm Nation: the title track, Miss You Much, and includes a non-single "The Knowledge" which is an awesome track and a dynamite video.
5-0 out of 5 stars this is a rare find, and i'm glad i purchased it
OMG!!!!, i can't believe how good this is, i'm bout to go listen to RN again, (LOL) 4real.The plot of the movie was good, the the way the videos were merged, had me thinking back to Michael Jackson's moonwalker.i wish she would've made a video for state of the world. The message from the video was true back then as it is now.i got advice from that tape, that i could put to good use now, about not giving up on what you want to do, nothing is impossible.
5-0 out of 5 stars great video
the music and dancing is awesome, and has a good message to it. Janet was at her artistic peak with this album/movie. It also won a grammy. ... Read more

Nightclub two-step--not to be confused with country two-step--is a slow, romantic dance. Master instructors Robert Royston and Laureen Baldovi teach the dance from the ground up. First they teach the rhythm and basic step to music, their backs to you so you can follow easily. Then they show you how to do that move with a partner, then they add additional basic moves like the side-cross-side traveling step and some simple turns and open breaks. During later segments, they get progressively more complicated and teach a variety of graceful, intermediate moves, including new turns, open breaks, and crossovers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn
I've looked at a number of tapes and DVDs lately, including three that this same couple have made. This tape (and others in the set) are far and away the best in terms of showing the steps (men first, then women, then together) and providing important details that others leave out entirely (how to hold your hands to make a turn). The jokes are corny but I think they present a good picture of some very personable dancers. I'm a beginning dancer (although I'm over 50) and this tape has allowed me and a partner to learn enough steps to be able to dance together at a nightclub. We'll be even better with more practice. I haven't seen a tape or DVD which does a better job. I wish they had a version for Rumba.

5-0 out of 5 stars If I can dance 2-step, you can
I saw other people dancing 2-step. I wanted to learn it & therefore bought this tape & try. The type runs for about 1 hour & teaches from basic step to about 10 different patterns, which is enough for doing a dance without repeating the same patterns too often. I learned from it by playing back twice, followed the steps & practiced without a partner. Then I went to the dance floor to do the 2-step for the 1st time with a partner who is a beginner dancer. I was happy that I could lead & dance it out. Although thefirst time was not very smooth, after several times I can dance 2-step to the music without difficulty now. This is really a good instructional video & worth the money. I like the instructors too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Instructors
We enjoyed this one as much as the Ultimate Two-Step Video.Great tips and beautiful dancing techniques.Wouldn't use this that much in Texas; we normally just plow our way through everyone! But it would have come in handy when we visited Nashville and everyone was doing line dances we hadn't learned yet! They go through step and arm movements very thoroughly and make it easy to learn! ... The Olsen twins take viewers to Lincoln Center, where they have a workout with the ballerinas of the New York City Ballet, go sightseeing in the Big Apple, and bring everything to a big finish with a grand-finale performance featuring some fine young dancers. With the cultural angle, this is better than most Olsen videos. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars To be a ballerina, hold on I need to pee, when I Iook and close my eyes this is what i pee
This is a really annoying video. So what is the impossible goal this time, brains suregons, rocket scientists, getting a decent hairstyle on their heads. The've done it all,BUT WAIT, now their ballerinas!!! they start off as their normal ditzy annoying selves and then break into a corny song, pack an ugly suitcase with what appears to be 9 cheap turtle-neck sweaters and a few tu-tus. they inocently and magically (big suprise there) quietly STOW-AWAY on an innocent bystanding North-West airplane and get kicked off in mid-air just in time to land in a soft,CUSHIONED (another suprise) carrige and continue their song.then after literlly shoving an old woman out of the way they break into a ballet preformance hall (where genius mary-kate asks "are we supposed to be in here")were a stalker-like creep named samara (just kidding) "danniel" greets them agressivley and knows more about thier plans then they do. then they stupidly follow her into a cheesey dance studio where two of their freinds are already being held captive ooooooopppppsssssssss i mean learing ballet. then they break into songs agian, this time something about sweating like a pig. then they go meet two of and probably ONLY of daniels freinds, an ugly looking ostrich like ballerina named piqua and her homosexual freind named alfonzo-sassycatcrudcake. Then they break into ANOTHER SONG(man these suprises are non-ending,geeze,i am constantly suprised!), this song is about big ugly bunion feet. and how much it hurts to have big ugly bunion feet like they do (and off course the olsen twins just HAVE to be wwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyy in front and thier cheesey freinds wwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy in the back were the termites are more visible. then they whine about thier cheap ballet slippers, okay moving on. the twins go to a park and performe there oh so neccesary ballet entitled "goose inohso tragic sesuire"where they (you geussed it-HAVE IDENTICAL,MATCHING SESUIRES!) then the stupid ballerinas and ballerinos whine about being nervous but off course the physciatrists mary-kate and ashley are here to help. during this song they tell corny jokes where the adult actors have to panfully fake laughs and then than the girls for helping (which they didn't, the actors were being polite). Thenit's time for the BIG preformaance where you see more extras people stuffing themselves with sassy-cat crud cakes and the twins waving thier arms around like they are on drugs than ballet. Then the girls MUST close the show so they preform a cheaply coroigraphied ballet. overall i guess this movies budget was like what 5, 6 bucks tops? don't get this unless you can also afford the ballet lessons and ugly tu-tus your child will want as soon as the included sesuier pill wears off. wanna buy it, your choice!

1-0 out of 5 stars Mary-Kate and Ashley dance like klutzy amateurs!!!!!!!
I was at a friend's house one day, and her little sister started watching this. During one song, "Sore Feet," Mary-Kate stuck her leg out, and TRIPPED the ballet teacher. That's a really STUPID thing to do in a kid's movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prince is Brilliant!
I've been a Prince fan for years and came across this on cable about two weeks ago for the first time.Amazingly brilliant vocals/guitar work/creative performance by Prince, and Shelia E. was awesome on drums, really fun.I went to my local mall the following morning obssessed with buying anything Prince.Unfortunately my Sign O' the Times cassette from back in the day is worn out and I had to special order it on CD...Still waiting!I forgot what an awesome album it is!I highly recommend this VHS (don't know anything about the DVD version, sorry).

5-0 out of 5 stars Words cannot describe it!
Who cares how long it took..? Actually I do, and so do plenty of others it seems - it's at sales rank position 73 on 22 June 2005 and apparently still rising! Still, here it is at long last.5-0 out of 5 stars This is the real deal
One of the best - if not THE best - rock concerts ever recorded on film. Anyone who has been waiting for the DVD release should wait no more. Don't know if this is an "official" release, and don't know why it's only available on amazon.ca. But sound and widescreen picture are great. I've played my VHS version a hundred times, but there are things on this version I've never noticed before, or heard before, the sound is that good. Yes, for some reason the "You Got The Look" video is out-of-focus and grainy, but the sound is still OK. Until he releases a DTS-ES version, this is the one to have. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT for beginners
I have had this video for years. I only did it for six months. The moves are hard to learn, and if you don't have the proper shoes and the proper floor to practice on, you WILL injure yourself! I got pretty good at the moves but the stomping resulted in Achilles' tendonitis for me, which I still suffer from. If you truly want to learn Irish dancing, take a class from an instructor in a proper setting. Don't risk injury with this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video for Irish dancers
I wouldn't recommend this video if you've never taken Irish dance before as it does move quite fast. But if you've taken it before, you shouldn't have any problem following along. It's fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Those Who Know Basic Irish Dance Already
I was looking forward to this video. Knowing nothing of how to Irish Dance (except for my free imitations done watching others), I bought this video thinking I might learn how to do some basic steps. Unfortunately, this is not a good video to learn by. Learning videos need a little bit of a boring quality, that is, watching from one camera angle one full practice step done slowly to rythm. But we never see the beginning steps done simply to rythm by one person; we jump from Mr. Dunne to the right, to the left, full body, just the feet, the others, which makes all of this more confusing. It seems like the director did not know if he was going to teach or entertain. However, if you are already an intermediate to professional Irish dancer already, I recommend this video. Or, if you want to enjoy watching how Irish dance is learned by professional dancers, but have no intention to get out of the sofa and try it, I recommend it.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video...but for salsa dancers only.
I bought this video a few days ago and then read the comments on this product page and I was bit hesitant to open the video. However, it is great and in fact one the best that I own from the Josie Neglia series. The salsa moves are excellent, popular, but for advanced salsa dancers only. I found the moves to be great refreshers since I have been taken salsa lessons for almost 10 years now and dance regularly. These moves serve as refreshers for those who are salsa dancers and possibly instructors. If you are a beginner this video is not for you and in fact there's nothing on the box that says "beginner salsa" therefore I am not sure where the notion of this video being for beginners originated. Once again the moves are fantastic, common and will help you to break down the moves more if that's what is needed to perfect them.3-0 out of 5 stars Not a good choice for beginners
I read the reviews of this video and then bought it anyway because I'm not a total beginner and thought I would be bored with a lot of simplistic breaking down of moves and easy patterns. I was wrong! This is too hard for beginners of any level, even if you already know the basic step and a few turns. Most of the combinations are really complicated, and they provide only brief instructions.2-0 out of 5 stars Horrible for Beginners
As a beginner I am now taking salsa lessons and still very disappointed with this video. As per this tape if you're a beginner stay away.Good instructors always count "1,2,3,,5,6,7," while showing you the exact steps/footing.As an instructor Jose Neglia doesn't even know how to count - she says "quick, quick, slow,,quick, quick, slow".Not only is that really bad instruction, she furthermore often loses the tempo when she says "quick, quick, slow" which confuses the beginner even more. One more thing, she instructs the dance steps very quickly "quick, quick, slow" then demonstrates it very quickly. If you are a beginner there's no way you'll enjoy this tape. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I would have rated it 1/2 star if I could of!!!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS VIDEO!! Save your money! This one of the most poorly done instructional videos I have seen! I hope following reasons will help others to make a more informed choice:2-0 out of 5 stars just bought the video.....
i'm an intermediate/advance dancer - the steps are great for beginners - i found the steps too basic for intermediate dancers.5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool for Salsa level 3/4
This video is great for intermediate-advanced level salsa dancers who want to learn or sharpen their salsa variations. The video features Josie Neglia and her assistant who are excellent at breaking down each step both male and female and once completed they dance the variation to music at least twice. The moves are classified as level III & IV salsa and indeed they are intermediate to advance steps. The video goes through each routine clearly and concisely which prevents the viewer from being overwhelmed. This video can meet the needs of salsa dancers who are at the intermediate level and wish to perfectionize their moves and beginners who are ready to try more difficult steps. I strongly recommend this video as it displays great choreography, coordination and is well organized from start to finish. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners and low quality product
Two characteristics of this video made me return it and not recommend this video: a) this video is not for beginners, and b) this video was poorly produced.5-0 out of 5 stars Great! Very satisfied. Will buy her next video.
Love it. I enjoy dancing but don't have the opportunity to take lessons. The steps here are enough to make me look like a pro. I'm looking forward to buying the next level tape. I have no problem with the counting 1 - 2 - 3 -- 5 - 6 - 7 - which seems to bother some because that is the rithm of the music.

2-0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
There are so many salsa instruction videos and DVDs to choose from - I bought this video based on the rave reviews it got. What a disappointment.Content aside, the quality is poor, particularyly the audio as Josie decided to dub over her counting 1-2-3, 4-5-6 with 1-2-3, 5-6-7 according to the beat count rather than step count. She really shouldn't have. It's very annoying. As for the steps, many of them are identical steps but with arm variations. The music is the same throughout. There are more titles than dancing.Don't get me wrong, there are steps to be learned here but for a fairly experienced dancer (albeit in ballroom) like myself who is looking for a quick overview to get a feel for the style, it's awful. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I was not impressed.
I did ballet for the last 4 years before coming to college. I missed ballet and was looking for something that would help me keep up with it- and give me a workout as ballet does, from the comfort of my own room. I feel like this was made for those without any or much ballet experience. But at the same time, the way it is shot/edited at times makes it hard to follow. When a step is being demonstrated suddenly it goes to a black and white zoom on the instructor's upper body, when what you need to see is her feet! Furthermore I'm disappointed with the non-ballet muscle toning parts. It's nothing special, crunches and push up, which when I'm buying an excersive video I don't want the abdominal excersizes to be all crunches- I could come up with that on my own.
5-0 out of 5 stars From Taebo to Ballet......This video ROCKS
I have been doing Taebo on and off since 1999, so I am what you would consider "fit". However, I didn't like what Taebo was doing to my body - i.e. making me look like Billy Blanks....so I switched to ballet, hoping it would sculpt me to look like a woman. Well! Oddly enough, I had just bought about 4 belts when I started the ballet. Within 3 weeks, all of the belts were WAY too big, and I was suddenly able to get into pants that I haven't gotten into in years. Furthermore, my extremely stubborn little belly has virtually melted away, and my arms are getting very firm. Ballet rocks! And, of the 4 videos I bought (including both NYC Ballet videos), this one is my favorite. I like the music, which changes a lot depending on the exercise (some of it is cheery, up-tempo, and some is slower, quieter). The instruction is good, but I did ballet as a child, so a lot of it comes back to me. My mom, who has never done ballet, had a hard time following the instruction the first time. If you dance with someone else, have the person who knows what they're doing stand in front of the other person. It's easier to watch a live person do the exercises than try to follow the video, if you're an absolute beginner. All in all, a wonderful workout. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost like dance class!
This is the nearest I have come to finding anything that resembles a Ballet class. The exception is that the barre exercises are done on the floor, but following that is center work.Terrific video.Note do not expect to all ways get a cardio workout from Ballet unless you are in Swan Lake or a serious professional dancer. ... It also contains two live performances of Mariah at a nightclub in New York City; which are "Vanishing, and Don't Play That Song." Between the vidoes Mariah talks about her life before she was a singer and what it took for her to get there. The video also some raw footage of Mariah and her backup singers walking around New York, and practicing in nightclubs. The best part of the DVD is when Mariah and her singers walk over to this dude's car and act as if they are advertising it! And one of the funniest parts was when Mariah and her backup singers where backstage singing "All In Your Mind," and Mariah hit this high note and she started laughing and the note just messed up! BUY THE VIDEO IT'S THE BEST!

I love this VHS, is one of the best that she has edited, It contains some rare behing-scenes footage and three of her fift videos. (There's got to be a way and I don't wanna cry aren't included.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is great!
I love this video because you can take a look at Mariah at a time when she was not a household name. It gives you a chance to see her as she is at certain parts where the filming is reallly raw. This video also has some great live performances at a small club."Don't Play that Song for Me" by Aretha Franklin is my favorite song she has covered to date. She also performs "Vanishing" at track that is the least "produced" song on her first album and really showcases her voice. This video is fun and great to watch a million times! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Too much talks, no maps, few taps
It's an important historical documentary ,but if you want to see old taps dancers like showed in the dvd cover, avoid it. There are only few short cuts from genius like Bill Robinson and others and manyand many conversations and interviews. Try old videos in VHS or the outstanding afro-american dancers in 'Stormy Weather', a Fox musical from the fourties, available in Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a historical piece...brilliant
I saw this in Boston at an art house in the early 80's. I've never forgotten the arresting visuals or the impression of watching these men re-define time and motion. After watching these masters prove that Tap always was an elevated form of modern dance you will wish for wings. Yes, it's that amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Words from a retired ballerina
I remember watching this when it first became available. I was entranced by the entire production, the first act is usually a little stale because it's the background information leading up to the dream sequence but in this video it is lively, entertaining and truly shows you the connections of the mother and father becoming characters in the second act. I am now a retired ballerina and I danced in the nutcracker for 20 consecutive years and of all of the productions I have seen and been in this video still captures the magic more beautifully than any other. If you want a ballet video that will be cherished for years and enjoyed by young and old this is the one to get - enjoy your holiday season! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars B. Brown at his Best
Damn, B.Brown was killing the music game in the late 1980s on this video this is a straight up entertaining video tape bobby brown is the man of his time this is a way to remember the good times he had before the media thinks negative about him this a video that usher or any young dude entertainment would watch because if it wasn't for bob, none of these dudes would have the balls to be entertainers just watch the tape learn your history it's not a gamethere are a lot of features on this video like music videos: girlfriend, girl next door, every little step, rock witcha, don't be cruel;live performances: roni and my prerogative(2 versions which is one is the blueish video and the rendition at the heartbreak tour in 1989); music clips:on our own; and an exclusive interview talking about being an entertainer, remembering the times of being in new edition, learning to be a business man, his image, and his humanity.4-0 out of 5 stars Just a little piece of nostalgia
My Uncle David is a B. Brown fanatic, so OF COURSE he made us watch the video as children. One thing about the video is that it's thorougly entertaining from the beginning with old material to some of his concert footage. Anyone who is an avid fan of R&B music must own this video. Besides, you'll get a kick out of the fashion during that time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A SHAME THIS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE...PRICELESS
Bobby Brown was THE MAN between the years 1987 and 1991. This video, "His Prerogative" proves it with 8 music videos, two of them live versions in which Bobby dances and sings across the stage with energy, confidence and hype. MC Hammer (before he 'blew up' in 1990) got his stylefrom Bobby Brown - particularly the 'diaper' pants that made both of theirdance moves look so good.Read more
