5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I loved this movie. Made it on the top Anime/OVA and overall fav. movies.
2-0 out of 5 stars Skip This -- Get The OAV
There are tons of great reviews for this movie. That's understandable if none of them have seen the original OAV series this came from.See, back in 1994-1995, a 4-part OAV series called "Armitage III" came out in Japan."Poly-Matrix" takes that 140-minute series and hacks it down to ~90-minutes. Thus this 1997 dub-title is born.So a lot of the story gets cut and things aren't nearly as good as the original. If you've seen the original, you'll be annoyed at all of the cuts and poor edit choices.4-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking
Armitage III - Poly Matrix is in a class all its own.Almost as if it were an anime version of Bladerunner, Ross and Armitage hunt down and destroy thirds.Similar in theme to Metropolis (2001), the characters are fixers in a world of technology gone awry.It is gritty, sassy and a bit graphic and is not for the weak of heart. Much has been said about the graphics but little is mentioned about the implications of the story of a sentient robot out to destroy her own.Unlike Ghost in the Shell, which focuses on the issue of cyborgs -- this one is steeped with robot lore.As part of the big four (Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Princess Mononoke, and the Armitage series) is a necessary element to appreciating this ever changing and very dynamic genre. Hyroyuki Ochi, although creating something short of a classic, has created a thought provoking saga.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One awesome Anime!
Now, i am a HUGE fan of this show, and everything about it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Strong and Sexy; One of the Defining Anime
Iria is one of those anime that made its way over to American early and was able to have an effect on people. I saw a piece of this anime on the Sci-Fi Channel a long time ago, and since then I've always wanted the entire collection. Though the dubbed voice-acting is dated, and the animation a little washed, it matches up well with other action-oriented sci-fi anime of its time (the animation style somewhat matches the anime series DNA2). Plus, it has a solid story, if a bit used, that carries the OVA from episode to episode.
5-0 out of 5 stars IRIA - Sexy Bounty Hunter
IRIA is a benchmark piece of animation.Done in 1995, IRIA continues to stand the test of time with it's beautiful artwork, excellent storyline, and fantastic characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST ANIME SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this show! Anyone who is into anime should definetly see it! All the monsters are sooo cool!

5-0 out of 5 stars this show is great
i really like this show.i haven't seen it in a long time, but it is one of the best shows aimed for a younger audience that i've seen.monster rancher may not interest those who are way into the major bloody fight seens, but it is perfect for the younger viewers out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars How many have YOU unlocked?
Monster Rancher, yet another Pokemon/Digimon clone? Not hardly.Monster Rancher stands by itself and isn't a clone of anything.Genki wins a contest and gets a new game for his PlayStation in the mail.He plays the game to watch a girl and a monster run away from the Black Dino troops. She enters a shrine (although, the game calls it a "ruined temple") and unlocks a disk.Instead of unlocking a monster, Genki is pulled into the weird world and makes friends with Holly and her monster! 5-0 out of 5 stars The final chapter of the Frieza Saga, a great DVD
This DVD is truly remarkable as it puts an end to the amazing Frieza Saga. The first episode shows the final destruction (well, at least until Trunks and stuff, but we'll leave it as that) of Frieza and includes many flash backs of the previous DVD's. The scene where Frieza get's destroyed is pure gold. (I love the manga dialoge. "You must die by my hands. I will kill you!" followed by Goku going, "You fool!" It's done almost perfectly in the Anime, but some of the dialoge is changed. It's still really great to watch.) The second episode shows Goku trying to get out alive and includes a little filler dual between Gohan and Vegeta.4-0 out of 5 stars Goku surviving!!!
These are the best damn episodes I've ever seen in my life. When Frieza is sliced in half by his own disks ..., Goku, the kind-hearted super saiyan, offered some of his energy so that Frieza can survive in space. But he attacked Goku from behind with a blast and Goku had enough and ended the terror right there. But it was not over. Goku still has to manage to get off Namek before it explodes. But it was too late. The planet Namek no longer exists. Did Goku escape or has his life ended along with the planet? It turns out that he did survive, but why hasn't he returned home yet? Find out later on in the series!

4-0 out of 5 stars The dvd with a lot of flashbacks
This is the last DVD from the Frieza saga. Frieza is defeated by super saiyan Goku. The saiyan warrior gives Frieza a little energy to escape the exploding planet Namek. Frieza sees flashbacks from the fight and can`t believe his defeat. In a last attempt to defeat Goku he fires an energy blast towards him. The blast backfires!!!Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Its alright, kinda boring
We finally get to see Vegetto, it is okay, he is pretty powerful and theres some action, but there is one big flaw.4-0 out of 5 stars You folks at ... have this title wrong.
If you'd check the official Dragon Ball Z site, you'd find that the correct title of this VHS is Dragon Ball Z: Fusion- The Last Saiyan.Saiyaman only appeared earlier in the series, he was an alter ego Gohan used to fool his high school classmates.Anyhow, the episodes in this compilation are notable in that Vegetto and Buu in this battle possess arguably the highest combined power level ever seen in the entire Dragon Ball Z series. We get Goku and Vegeta, the two most powerful Z warriors, combined as Vegetto on one side and Buu, who has assimilated the four next most powerful Z warriors (Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten) on the other side.Hold onto your hats; it's bound to be incredible! The official titles of the episodes, according to FUNimation, are:5-0 out of 5 stars Fusion - Last Saiyaman

1-0 out of 5 stars buy the books, burn the dvd
Isn't there a rating below 1 star?
1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
With Terry Pratchett's great writing and Cosgrove Hall doing the animation I figured this had to be a winner, but sadly this is not the same stop-frame-puppet-animation Cosgrove Hall brilliance that brought us 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin' or 'The Reluctant Dragon'.This is their second-rate cartoon team who brought us the highly overrated Dangermouse.Wyrd Sisters exhibits the sort of mediocre paint-by-numbers animation that Hanna-Barbera was infamous for.In my opinion Discworld could have been well-served by Cosgrove Hall if only they had done it properly. This cartoon treatment is disappointing to say the least.I advise everyone to just read the book instead - your own imagination will conjure up better images than this DVD does.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's true what they say......."The book was so much better!"
I was really hoping for something great here. When I learned they had made movies of Terry Pratchett's fantastic works, WYRD SISTERS and SOUL MUSIC, I was so excited. When I found out they were animated, I was thrilled beyond belief. I adore animation! There is so much you can do these days with animation. So much that the producers of this film did'nt bother to do! The movie is nice and long, which is about the only nice thing I can say about it. The most recognizable of the vocal talent is that of Jane Horracks(Absolutely Fabulous and Little Voice). The animation is cheaply done. Many of the jokes and Terry's fantastic sattire that us fans have come to love are lost on those who have'nt read the books prior to seeing the movie. I am giving this movie 3 stars because of my loyalty to DiscWorld and because of the relative obscurity of the film. It is sort of difficult to find new or used and in Region 1 and I feel necessary for any animanition fan's personal collection. I will purchase SOUL MUSIC eventually with greater hopes for the future. For anyone special reading this...I would love to see the Luggage animated! ... Read more

Now, if this is for families and children, I would have to say,'NO!'. i know my views are held by a small minority, but they are still me views. This film did not do anything for my, nor for my children. My daughter, upon the completion of her first viewing of this video, exclaimed "Don't leave me hanging on an intellectual and visual level!" Perhaps other volumes of thiese videos are better, edited better, crafted better, but this one left a little to be desired. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best You'll Find of the Pokemon TV Series
Just another video about pocket monsters? Well, yes and no. The first episode of this volume, "Ignorance Is Blissey", actually contains a story about one of the main characters of the series - Jessie - and I found this episode to be much more dramatic and entertaining than the usual Pokemon series material. It begins with Ash, Misty, and Brock arriving at Happytown in the middle of the night and looking for something to eat. At the Pokemon Center they are greeted by Blissey, the evolved form of Chansey, who turns out to be very friendly but very inept. The resulting cascade of cataclysms finds Ash so injured that he needed to be wrapped head to toe in bandages. Switch to the next plot, Jessie, James, and Meowth break into the same Pokemon center looking for a bite to eat and anything else they can get their hands on. What they find instead is Blissey, who turns out to be an old friend of Jessie's. What follows next is a delightful little anime that tells the story of their friendship in the Pokemon Nurse School. Several times over the course of this TV series there have been flashbacks showing Jessie's past before she joined the nefarious Team Rocket, but this time we see her live the events as she was before - a decent human being. Here Jessie is warm, pleasant, and sincere as she helps her friend (then Chansey) graduate from school even though she herself flunks out and leaves in a touching parting scene. Back to the present, Blissey willingly gives Team Rocket all of the food in the center's storage pantry out of friendship, only to get caught on the security tape the next day. Watching from a distance, Jessie sees that her old friend is now in trouble and Team Rocket decides to help out by claiming responsibility for the theft and remove the guilt from Blissey. What happens next is probably the strangest Pokemon battle I have ever seen. Team Rocket puts up a false battle against Blissey, a real battle against Ash & Co. and Jessie fights turmoil within herself all at the same time; you have to see it to believe it. In the end, Blissey is exonerated, Team Rocket gets blasted off again, and Ash, Misty, and Brock finally get something to eat. I found this episode very interesting because it brings up several issues with the series. First, what happened to the character Jessie? What cruelty could change such a decent person into the nasty shrew she is now? Next, near the end of the movie Pokemon 2000 Team Rocket doesn't just cooperate with the good guys, they actually sacrifice their own well being to help someone else. They do it again in this episode which, to me anyways, seriously ruins their credibility as the villians of this show, but in the next episode they are back at their dirty old tricks again. I find this lack of consistancy somewhat annoying. Last issue, certainly the Pokemon TV series was born of the desire to sell Nintendo game products, essentially a half-hour long commercial. However there have been some episodes like this one and the movie Pokemon 3 that clearly demonstrate a potential to evolve beyond the original purpose into a real anime series that has a life and spirit of its own. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen as long as Nintendo and Game Freak retain control of this TV series. The second episode of this volume "A Bout with Sprout" is more like the standard Pokemon material. Ash, Misty, and Brock finally arrive at Violet City and start to look around for the gym. Before you know it a boy and a girl try to kidnap Pikachu, but surprise, it's not Team Rocket this time! It's Zack and Lizzie, two students at Earl's Pokemon Academy, a place with more than a little silliness. Zack, unbent by Ash's ownership of Pikachu, continues to persue the little guy into the woods, where Pikachu is seemingly caught in a Pokeball. At this point Ash and Zack are caught in one of Team Rocket's pitfalls and Zack finds out he actually caught a bellsprout when tries to unleash a thundershock on Team Rocket. The real Pikachu arrives in time to give Team Rocket a good zorch and blast them out of the picture yet again. Ash and Zack continue on to meet the academy class at the Sprout Tower, an unusual building supported by a single large swaying beam. At the tower they are met with a Team Rocket encore - another attempt to catch Pikachu, but with the help of Zack and his new friend bellsprout, our heroes save the day and send Team Rocket on their way again. In the end Zack learns a good lesson - that you don't need to be strong and powerful to be a hero. This episode has some pretty good laughs and silliness to go along with the good lesson at the end. In the third episode of this volume, "Fighting Flyer With Fire", Ash finally makes it to the Violet City Gym. There he encounters two officials from the gym that insist on examining Pikachu. Only after they abscond with the little guy do our heroes recognize the officials as Team Rocket (although it is very obvious to the viewer - I kind of miss some of the really good disguises they used years ago). Very soon a new character shows up riding a hanglider and rescues Pikachu from Team Rocket and sends them on their way. Ash thanks him for his help and they become friends only to find out that this new guy is Faulkner the Gym leader Ash has come to battle. If you're really into Pokemon battles this one is a very good demonstration of type and level mismatches, and some strategy for beating a stronger opponent. Faulkner seems friendly enough on the street, but in the arena he turns out to be a fierce competitor, and doesn't give Ash any easy breaks. In the end Ash is forced to use his head to win, he doesn't win by luck this time. Not a lot of laughs or silliness in this episode, but a great Pokemon battle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flying Ace
Another video featuring the pocket monsters and the trainer battling to the ... yada yada yada. You know all that. So let's get on with it! This video is a rare occurance, as all three episodes featured on this tape are highly recommended! The first, Ignorance is Blissey, starts off with Ash and Co finding a Pokemon Center with a happy Blissey wanting to make them as happy as possible, but everything it does, ends up with Ash getting hurt until he is completely wrapped in bandages. But the real story begins when Team Rocket sneaks in during the night to find some chow and Jessie runs into Blissey, who turns out to be a friend of hers! Jessie tells James and Meowth how they both attended nursing school when Blissey was a Chansey, but Jessie was flunked out. Blissey, knowing how hungry Team Rocket is, gives them all the food in the center, but how will Ash react when there's nothing for breakfast? Next, in A Bout With Sprout, the group stops by Earl's Pokemon Academy (and Dance School) to show the kids their Pokemon, but one little brat is determined to steal Pikachu! But even if Ash can stop the little boy, he'd better prepare for double trouble as Team Rocket is out to capture Pikachu too! Finally, in Fighting Flyer With Fire, we FINALLY get to see a Johto Gym Battle! Gee, and it only took 15 episodes to get here too! But Pikachu should have no problem against Flying type Pokemon.... right?

5-0 out of 5 stars Clever re-marketing of a classic
I first saw the new "Special Edition" in a local store and its cover is made to look like Disney's recent Studio Ghibli releases. At first, I thought it may be the Streamline dub version on DVD, but it is merely a re-packaging of the Original Manga release with French and Spanish languages added. And, sadly, still only 2.0 Surround in English. My kids (all 10 and under) and I are big fans of Miyazaki's films and this one is no different. However, I made my own edited backup of my Manga DVD and removed over 30 curse words, so we can watch it like all the other Miyazaki films.I guess I'll just keep using mine, since this one brings nothing new to the table.Note: I gave 5 stars for the movie itself, not for the Special Edition release.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the finest Lupin III and animated films ever made!
Please don't let reports of swearing deter you from purchasing thisanimated classic. I would also like to point out the swearing was for the most part added in by the distributer, Manga. The original Japanese track has only one or two bad words. However, the additional swearing in the English track may not be suitable for small children. The violence is for the most part cartooney, although the use of guns and grenades are used frequently in the film. There is one scene where blood is present, but none of it is gratuitous, and is more for dramatic effect.
3-0 out of 5 stars Rated pg-13 for a reason
I was dissappointed. This movie has swearing in it. I would not recommend it to anyone who has small children. It's rating is accurate. The movie does have lots of action(fighting)and Lupin uses cool gadgets and stunts to get around. If you don't mind the swearing and like action this movie is for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Gundam Wing Shotting Stars
This is the first episode of Gundam Wing. I think this video is brilliant and is a great starter to an amazing series. When the five mislead Gundam pilots land on Earth, I felt sorry for them as they were mainly outcasts with no homes and even Relena's kindness towards Heero was disregarded. I'd have given it 5 stars if it had shown all the pilots in detail as I think it lacked this. In the end it was a brilliant watch and I would recommend it. *Note: This is uncut and it is gory in some parts.

Editorial Review

These two short episodes rank among the silliest anime series of all time. Years ago, a king sent his greatest knight, Ruth the Great Red Lightning Bolt, to slay a dragon; but instead of killing her, the warrior married her. Mink is the result of that union: a scantily clad redhead with horns, wings, and a short tail. (Although she commands an array of super powers, Mink didn't inherit brains from either parent.) In "Mink's Voyage" the lecherous king sends his top warriors to slay Ruth so he can marry the curvaceous dragon himself, but Mink clobbers all of them. She enters a no-holds-barred contest, hoping to win the plane fare to pop star Dick Saucer's next concert in "The Brutal, Killer Martial Arts Tournament." Mink triumphs, defeating a demon who "doesn't care about story continuity." Rated 15 Up: Violence, profanity, nudity. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny, but is it worth the money? (hey that rhymes)
I bought this about a year ago, ( my sister recommended it to me) and I have to say that I did enjoy it. It was one of the funniest Animes that I've ever seen, not as funny as Bobobo-bo bo-bobo, but still very funny. However, I paid $11 on the Dragon Half VHS, and I dont really feel like I got my moneys worth. Of course, it's much cheaper now, and I would've gladly purchased it for the low price that they're asking for it now!
5-0 out of 5 stars half a human being
Mink is a half girl half dragon with some special powers, red hair, horns, wings, and a short tail cause years ago a king sent a knight name Ruth to slay a female dragon but instead of doing that he married a dragon and of course had sex with her and thats how Mink was born, it's too bad she has all looks but no brain. During this video you'll see what she does to get to this concert of her favorite pop star that she has a crush on his name is Dick Saucer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Touch The Eggs They Are Mine!
I bought this anime on a whim.It was cheap and I had just finished watching the first season of "The Slayers".To my surprise, this anime quickly lept into my "Top 10" list.Dragon Half really packs a mean punch when it comes to comedy, chibi animation, crazy bad guys, and did I mention comedy?

Editorial Review

Isao Takahata's powerful antiwar film has been praised by critics wherever it has been screened around the world. When their mother is killed in the firebombing of Tokyo near the end of World War II, teenage Seita and his little sister Setsuko are left on their own: their father is away, serving in the Imperial Navy. The two children initially stay with an aunt, but she has little affection for them and resents the time and money they require. The two children set up housekeeping in a cave by a stream, but their meager resources are quickly exhausted, and Seita is reduced to stealing to feed his sister. Despite his efforts, she succumbs to malnutrition. Seita painfully makes his way back to the devastated city where he quietly dies in a crowded railway station.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, but this is an emotionally cloying melodrama
This is a good movie, not a great one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Story
This is one of those rare works that doesn't go for simple, heavy handed storytelling. It's a tragedy that unfolds at a realistic pace, with characters trying desperately to be human in the face of a world that has lost its sympathy and sanity.
5-0 out of 5 stars A powerful film, particularly appropriate for generations lucky enough to never have experienced war first hand.
Besides what all, including myself, write about the powerful message and meaning of this film, it should also be made clear that this is a great film--period.Not just a great anime, or a great work of "Asian cinema" or Japanese cinema. This is a film which anyone who loves fine movie-making will be glad to not have missed and is worthy of anyone's very elite collection if they have one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but good!
I think this movie is not as good as Sailor Moon R is the best out of them all but its a pretty good movie although i was wishing that chibi moon was just die already cause i really hate her she is so annoying even her voice is agitating I'm really tired of her anyways if you like sailor moon this is a must!
5-0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming
Next to Sailor Moon R The Promise Of The Rose , i'd have to say Hearts In Ice is the next best thing. Not only because it has the outter Senshi , But the story is a tear jerker, It teach's you about love and pain and hardships. I think its deff a movie to see :).

5-0 out of 5 stars ok im actually 15 but dont feel like signing up.
Ok most of these people are talking about the wrong movie. There are no ice queens in the Sailor Moon Super S movie. That was the second movie. This one is all about the Black Dream Hole, created by the evil Badiyanu. Her wish is to take all the children of Earth and put them into an eternal peaceful sleep, which somehow feed her Dream Hole energy, which allows it to grow. The Scouts have to defeat Badiyanu before the Dream Hole gets so big it can swallow the Earth. Can they do it?Definitly watch it in Japanese cause the english doesnt explain much. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Disturbingly beautiful..
Genji's mother died when he was young, and he's been looking for her in all of his relationships with women ever since. And there are a *lot* of relationships: I had trouble at first figuring out who was sleeping withwhom, and who was related to whom. The Tale of Genji is full of movingimagery and symbolism, but be prepared for a lot of beautiful, quiet, prolonged sequences where nothing much happens. There's even aKubrick-esque dream sequence at the end; as confusing and anti-resolutionas the end of 2001. :)The music is wonderful as well, and I've never saidthat about any other anime I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mysterious and beautiful, incredible soundtrack
This animated film, based pretty faithfully on the first one third of the classic novel The Tale of Genji by Lady Murasaki, is a beautiful and haunting representation of eleventh century Heian Japan, a pessimistic andBuddhist era during which the fictional character Genji Hotaru (The ShiningGenji) seeks love and meaning. Many have accused it of lacking plot andenergy, which may be accurate; however, that is not the point of the filmor the twelve hundred page novel, which is highly atmospheric. The filmmight be slightly confusing for the viewer who has not read The Tale ofGenji, but I don't believe that only those who have read the novel orresearched Heian Japan will enjoy it.It is a quietly sad and beautifulstory which gives the viewer visual insight into the peculiar lifestyle ofthe Heian Japanese individual, and he can experience the curiosities ofpolygamy, spirit posession, Buddhism/Shinto ceremony, and the cult ofbeauty. The audial aspects of this film are also very alluring; thecombination of the unusual tones of the traditional Japanese instrumentsand the sounds of the characters' environment (swishing silk kimono, dripping oil lamps, the brushing of hair) is incredibly sensuous. True, itis very unhurried and focuses on details that many animated films wouldneglect; and not everyone would find this interesting.Still, while thisfilm isn't at all an example of the popular sci-fi action anime which drawssuch a crowd, it is a poignantly gorgeous utilization of the techniques ofJapanese animation artists which illustrates a few preciously mysteriousand aesthetically moving moments during the golden era of Japan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elegant and unique
Not your everyday anime, Tale of Genji is beautifully drawn and quietly engaging. It isn't for the anime action fan.But if you enjoy great art and interesting characters in an historic Japanese setting, don't pass thsup. ... Read more
