Editorial Review

Bilingual Dora and her monkey friend Boots have places to go and rescues to make, but they need the help of their young viewers in this delightful Nick Jr. program designed to simulate computer software. Although it can't be truly interactive, of course, toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy the pauses as Dora waits for them to count or speak Spanish before moving on. In "Little Star," the brown-eyed heroine and her primate amigo come upon a weeping fallen star and make the journey to a hilltop, returning it to the heavens. In "Wizzle Wishes," the friends are reading a storybook when one of the characters leaps from the page in pursuit of three wishes. They must catch the runaway wishes in order to get Wizzle home, but first they have to deal with Swiper, the klepto fox who beat them to it. Children learn a simple Spanish word each 23-minute episode (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dora the Explorer and the monkey Boots
I don't know why I'm reviewing this, but I'll do it any way. I'm a kid of 11 years of age and I really don't like any Dora things. I only watch the show when I'm bored, but I think it's fun to kids below the age of 6. Parents you should get this for your kids. When I was little or Amazon and buy this today!
5-0 out of 5 stars "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map!"
Yeah, so many hours have been spent watching this one with my niece that I have become a "Doraphile".Engaging dialogue, brilliantly alive colors, and easy-to-learn songs make Dora a perfect "teacher".She and pal Boots play off each other well, and the sinister Swiper the fox is an amusing foil in their adventures.5-0 out of 5 stars This is so cute!!
My son is crazy about moons and stars and dora- especially swiper!!! so this of course was one of those "had to buy tapes" this one is not annoying at all- it is really cool!!! I love the grump old trol and get a kick out of him when I see him- my son- who is two will ask to watch this over and over again- I must say it is not annoying and is very educational and enjoyable- I love Dora's use of Spanish and English in the video and I ove her problem solving ablities- it is one I would recommend to anyone-- ps-- my husband also likes to watch it!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Special place in our hearts for this Veggie!!
We love 'Lyle'.It is such a tenderhearted tale, and I never get tired of seeing this with my children.I love the lessons it teaches. This is one of our favorite all-time Veggie Tales.

5-0 out of 5 stars A show starring Junior? What could be better?
The first part of the show is the Shakespeare play "Omlet".This is another great version of a literary classic. The classic song is "Larry's High Silk Hat", which features classic music. Then is the lost play by Gilbert and Sullivan, "Lyle, the Kindly Viking".It stars Junior Asparagus.I love him! That's part of what makes this story funny. What also makes it funny is the constant presence of Bob and Larry. One of their best yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars A laugh out loud, even for adults
Junior Asparagus is by far my favorite veggie, and he is featured in this cute take on "generosity". Larry the cucumber is also featured with his dry wit and eyebrow-raising jokes. Even my stalwart husband got a laugh out of this cute DVD. ... Read more

This animated feature based on the popular E.B. White book for children--about the special relationships between Wilbur the pig, Charlotte the spider, and Templeton the rat--is a straight adaptation from the page, with songs added. Endearing, heartbreaking, and ultimately wise, it may not please all of those with a strong attachment to the book, but it works all the same. Read more

A must for everyone's library.Worth watching again and again no matter what your age.

5-0 out of 5 stars love that Wilbur.
This is one of my favorite childrens stories. There are a lot of valuable lessons for kids to learn within the story, such as love, loyalty, and devotion to others. I shared the book with my 5 year old granddaughter and then we enjoyed watching this movie together. I would recommend this movie as a must see for all children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic book is now a timeless film
This story speaks about a runt of a spring pig called Wilbur, as told in the Newbary Award-winning children's novel of the same name by E.B. White.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some of Scooby's Finest Work!
I will begin by saying a whole box of Scooby snakcs for Shaggy, Scooby Doo, and Scooby Dum! That's how good this tape is. The 1st episode has the luxury of being based on a classic horror. Like good horror, it starts normal, but there are incidents on the sooner side. There is some wonderful chemistry between Velmah, Scooby Doo, Scooby Dum, and Shaggy. Shaggy's comical and famous lines from his fear are there: "I'll remember this Halloween for the rest of my life....That is...if I have a rest of my life." The scene with Scooby Doo, Shaggy, and Scooby Dum and the 'Headless Horseman' is hilarious: "This head hasn't worker right since the day I got it.Mr. Headless Horseman, you'd be very unhappy with this head." The mislead is well placed, as well as the 'bad guy's' slips. There is also a good alternation between normal scenes and creepy scenes. Some other good humor is Shaggy's possible useful clue: "Aliens land at convention. The headless horseman is from outerspace." Finally, the solution and motive is on the plausible side. As good as this 1st episode is, the 2nd follows it quite well. It starts normal enough, but an eerie presence is there. The misleads are well done. We are also given time to wonder what the 'bad guy's' motives are. We are made nervous around innocent characters while we are relaxed around potentially dangerous characters. The chases are suspenseful as well as comical. And ofcourse Shaggy's one liners are there: "I gave at the blood bank." The solution is plausible and a little stronger than other episodes. Rather than just saying to ourselves: "The bad guy is found out and going to jail," we should at times feel a little upset when we discover who the villain is. True horror exists when not from a stranger wearing a mask, but being betrayed by someone we really we felt we could trust. Since vampires are in this episode (in a way) I can use this example. The Gary Oldman "Dracula" tries (AND FAILS) to be scary by making him a grotesque monster. The Frank Langella "Dracula" tries and (SUCCEEDS) to be scary by making him very human. REALITY CHECK! The more human and plausible something is, the more scary it is. This is one of Scooby's best tapes. Don't miss it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most favorite episode
This has to be the BEST Scooby episode ever made. The writing is superb. You feel like you are actually there experiencing the fear along with Shaggy and Scooby.5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best episode of Scooby Doo ever made.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3-year-old loves it.
My 3-year-old son loves it. I got him this since he enjoys another Kipper dvd, 'Kipper helps out'.He imitates gestures and activities he sees on dvd, and laughs at many scenes. All episodes are mild, playful, and contain no scary or violent images and sounds.I watched it together and found it more enjoyable than irritating like many other childrens' shows. I like the jazz music in the background, and I also like the voice acting which is very easy on the ears.I'd let my kid watch it over and over without any worries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Kipper Fans Here
We love Kipper, and like all the other Kipper videos we have (total of 5!), this is a great one.Kipper is sooo cute.My (just turned) two-year-old son cannot get enough of Kipper. And frankly, I get a kick out of the show as well. It's just nice and sweet, and usually funny. The drawings are understated and beautiful, and it is impossible not to fall in love with the adorable characters and the lovely simple stories.I do not have one single complaint about any of the Kipper videos.

What keeps airplanes aloft? How do birds fly? How do pilots steer a plane? These questions and more are explored in this installment of the award-winning science videos from Scholastic. Ms. Frizzle's class is taking part in a model-airplane contest to explore the principles of aerodynamics, when Mrs. Frizzle shrinks herself and a few class members so that they can fly their plane themselves. When the remote control breaks, the kids in the airplane must learn to fly it. Those remaining on the ground must somehow turn the Magic Schoolbus into an airplane so they can rescue their classmates. Through trial and error, the whole class discovers that in order to fly, an object needs to have wings, moving air, power, and steering. They discover firsthand how birds' wings act as propellers, and how birds and planes steer with rudders and flaps. Finally, with some help from an eagle, they learn to take off, fly, and land. Kids will learn about aerodynamics by observing what works and what doesn't as the characters try to stay aloft. Or, as Ms. Frizzle puts it: "Sometimes you have to do the wrong stuff to find out what the right stuff is supposed to be." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It just keep on coming...
Like most Blue's videos, there are consistent themes/lessons to learn...For a lot of children learning videos, at times, the lesson is hard pressed.Hence a child will get tired of it and the video will gather dust on the shelf. "Treasure Hunt" is my son's favorite because there are a sense of adventure and discovery which is hard to find in any learning video. My son has been watching this video consistently everyday(by his request) from the time he was 1.5 yrs old to the present(2.5 yrs old).A must buy video if your child is Blue's Clues fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a treasure!
We bought this quite a while ago, and it's a favorite of both our kids (2 and 4).After viewing it the first couple of times, my older son (who was 3 at the time) wanted to have treasure hunts all over the house! It really stretched our creativity, and when HE made a treasure hunt for US, we knew we'd hit on something great. We also like the accompanying show, about Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper's new baby, Paprika.Keep your eyes out for the worried expectant father thinking up names for the new baby. It's a little hard to catch the first time, but once we discovered it, it was a game to see who could hear a new "spicy" name!

5-0 out of 5 stars Treasure Hunt is the BEST Blues video yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peter and the Wolf
This is a very old story, set to music by Prokofiev. It was adapted by Disney as one of ten segments of the animated feature film, "Make Mine Music" in 1946. Narrated by Sterling Holloway (the voice of Pooh) it is the story of a young boy who goes with his pet cat Ivan, duck Sonia, and bird Sasha to catch the wolf. The music has always been a popular way to teach people the value of classical music, and how music can be expressive and teach a story. Each animal and person in the story is expressed by a musical instrument, such as Peter by a string quartet, Grandpa by the bassoon, and the hunters by kettledrums. The piece is hilarious and very well animated. It was edited into a short featurettte for the first time in 1955. ... Read more

To describe Playhouse Disney's perennial preschool favorite, think Teletubbies meets the Jetsons. This loving, traditionalfamily--Mr. And Mrs. Polie, 6-year-old Olie, sister Zowie, and GrandpaPappy--are hairless beings with antennas, glassy eyes, and noodle arms, set in a fruit-striped, computer-animated household of livingappliances. Okey-dokey? While parents scratch their heads as to whatmakes this program work, preschoolers are enamored with the soothingstorylines, predictable endings, and deliberate pace of the Emmy-awardwinning show. A trio of hardly haunted tales makes up this celebratory24-minute video. If Charlie Brown gets the Great Pumpkin, then Olie candream of the giant orange Spookie Ookie, which he does in "The Legendof Spookie Ookie." In "Oooh Scary," Olie and his pal Billy plan to giveZowie the fright of her life but the shivers come back to haunt them, much to her delight. And in "Zowie Queen of the Pumpkins," thespookie-ookiest day of the year becomes a sweet memory of dancing withspook-o-lanterns when Zowie meets a midnight friend in the pumpkinpatch. 5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite Olie episode
My son has been in love with Spookie Ookie since he first saw this Halloween episode last fall, when he was about 17 months old.The video gets watched on a regular basis at our house.I like it too.I've seen it probably 20 times, and I'm still not tired of it.Now, if only they would release it on DVD...

5-0 out of 5 stars we love it
Rolie Polie Olie is one of my daughter's favorite shows. I enjoy it too because it is well made, the stories are well told, and, the characters and setting are simply adorable! A Spookie Ookie Halloween is a little on the short side, being the length of the average show, but very entertaining. They are celebrating what looks like Halloween but it is differnt than most Halloween shows as there is not an emphasis on candy. I am basically dumbfounded by the reviewers who said this movie is so scary. This is ridiculous. My daughter who is to loves it. I recommend this to anyone who isn't an over sensitive nutcase. Seriously, enjoy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fear, bullies, aggression, and ugly stereotypes: a toxic brew for kids
This is one of the worst films for kids I have ever seen with my four year old son.It is built around fear, bullies, aggression, and ugly stereotypes. This film is a bonanza for therapists and sociologists, and it goes a long way towards explaining some of the pathologies of this society. How about a movie that lets kids be kids, instead of this onslaught of cheap sentiments and terror? The calculated story uses every trick to scare kids. The limited imagination of the story writers is particularly insulting. Is everything just about good and evil and the fight for survival? For young kids??In many ways the film is a throwback to Cold War films such as Red Dawn (1984), in which school kids fought a Soviet invasion (no kidding!).Is "A Bug's Life" how we are supposed to prepare our kids for the war on terrorism? In sum, this film is a toxic brew.Kids deserve better.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bug's Life (Collector's Edition)
A Bug's Life (Collector's Edition)~ Dave Foley is one of the best animated movies that I have ever seen period. The animation is top of the line and this movie is so much better then Antz. The story begins with ants collecting food for an offering, and then our "hero" manages to trash this cermoney and then trouble begins. The story is well developed and well written and unlike "Antz" we are here spared pseudo political messages and this is good since the movie is after all made for children and not adults. One important message that is sent is to children is to tollerate different people and not to judge people. The music is splendid and the dialogue is right on the money. Highly recommended indeed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pixar is always a sure bet for great entertainment
Excellent story with grade A performers. There is an agelessness to Pixar's films and they seemed to have cornered the market in their ability to appeal to both the children and adults.Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Showstopping Disney Sing Along Songs video
Of all the Disney Sing Along Songs on video, this is my favorite. As fans of Disney Sing Along Songs on DVD will know, there is a new intro for the DVDs featuring Sebastian the crab and a new theme song. Well on the early VHS versions the theme song featured Mr Owl. Sing Along Songs: Friend Like Me was the first video to revamp the original theme song, and it does such a great job, upping the music tempo and really getting you excited for this latest offering.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun
My grandma got me this video when I was only three years old. But now I gave this video away to someone who could use It. I was too old for this video. My grandma says I used to love this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun...fun...fun...

5-0 out of 5 stars A DVD MUST...so where is the DVD?
Rover Dangerfield is a very good animated feature and deserves to be available on DVD for a new generation of viewers. The quality of animation is top-notch. The character design is outstanding - especially the turkey, hen and rooster (in fact their scenes are BRILLIANT) and, of course, Rover. The backgrounds and layouts are terrific. Honorable mention goes to the excellent 3D intro. Overall, the quality of the production value is very high.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rover
It's the best (animated) movie I've ever seen.I saw it for the first time 11 years ago - when I was 7 years old. Great story about dog who got lost and found love...I like it and I would give my life if I could see Rover on DVD.5-0 out of 5 stars It was SWEET!!!
It was an awesome movie. I have been desperately looking for the super cool film in DVD. Rodney Dangerfield, who played Rover Dangerfield, is an outstanding actor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Donkey Kong Movie is Smashing Hit!
I rented this movie because my dad wouldn't let me get any other movie that I liked in the store. I watched it twice in a row and loved it. What I loved most about the movie was the way they combined humor, music, adventure, and just a bit of action. Thumbs up for DK!
