This cute movie by William Dear stars John Lithgow as a family man who befriends a Sasquatch (a.k.a. Bigfoot) and brings the friendly monster's oversized, hairy self into his Seattle home. Mayhem and comedy ensue, but things take a heavier turn when a hunter (David Suchet) gets on the creature's trail. Everything hinges on the relationship between Lithgow's character and Harry (the Sasquatch), and that relationship is really quite effective and touching. Don Ameche is a hoot as an old guy who has dreamed of meeting Bigfoot all his life and finally gets the glorious chance. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I laugh just thinking about Harry and the Hendersons...
Harry and the Hendersons is such a funny movie; I hope that it comes out on dvd soon. I've rented it several times on VHS in the past, and I never picked up on the negatives that "Mother Hen" mentioned.I guess that I was too busy laughing.I do have one thing to say about "Mother Hen", though. She does have a right to express her opinion about any movie, and if she feels the way that she does about Harry and the Hendersons, then so be it.There are no doubt some others out there that would appreciate her point of view. When my son was little, I may very well have felt the same way, who knows?

5-0 out of 5 stars I just saw this on ...a cable channel
complete and un-interrupted by commericals, it was wonderful!I can't wait til it's out on DVD - I'm still holding on to my original VHS recording until I can upgrade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother Hen, get a life
This is in response to Mother Hen earlier, are you freaking kidding me.A few bad words that your kids already know and have probably uddered about you behind your back is not that big a deal. Why don't you go and buy a ranch down the street from President Bush and picket a couple of bad words in one of the great family movies in the past 20 years.Hey Mother Hen, you layed a giant "who gives a s#$t egg" on this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Family Charmer
Even among Disney films there are few that absolutely everyone in the family can watch without provisos of some kind. This movie is one of those.Fans of classic film stars will find this charming family film to be filled with several actors in the prime of their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have companion to Song Of The South
If you love Song of The South, you'll probably like this one almost as much.It stars the same boy, Bobby Driscoll, and has animated sequences. The cartoons aren't as funny as Uncle Remus's tales, but the rest of the story is better. The little boy raises a black lamb to enter at the fair. The lamb gets into a lot of mischief, and the boy learns some valuable lessons.Great performances by Beulah Bondi, Burl Ives, and Harry Carey help make this a memorable family classic.Great technicolor too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Renaissance Alpha Man
This movie remains my all time favorite western classic. I work with teen boys, teaching and training them in the traits and habits needed th be successful men.I use this film to help drive home my message. Clint Walker, as Big Jim Cole, epitimizes the essence of manhood. He exhibits honor, courage, compassion, integrity, strength, fidelity, respect, self reliance, love and mercy. As a family man he is the spiritual leader of his household. His wife, Angie, respects and adores him. He is unabashed in his love for her. His children love and look up to him. As a man he has the strength of character and courage to face an assortment of deadly challenges bent on destroyng him and his family. He engages his enemies with determined resolve, steady nerves and manly strength.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Classic
I grew up watching this movie with my dad.On Friday nights he would ask what movie I wanted to watch and I would always say "The Night of the Grizzly".There are a few scary scenes with the Grizzly but nothing to graphic. It's a story of a hardworking family getting through the rough times.A great movie for the entire family to enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A family tames the West
This atypical "family Western" tells a story that was probably more common on the frontier than every cinematic shootout ever filmed.Former lawman Big Jim Cole (Clint Walker, best known as TV's "Cheyenne") inherits his grandfather's small ranch and brings his family to settle on it.His first 24 hours in town aren't promising: he learns that the ranch was originally won from a powerful neighbor, Jed Curry (Keenan Wynn), who still covets it for his sons, Tad and Cal (Ron Ely, Sammy Jackson); he has to use almost all his savings to pay off a loan against it; 12-year-old son Charlie (Kevin Brodie) gets into a brawl with some local boys; five-year-old daughter Gypsy (Victoria Paige Meyerink) gets "skunked"; longtime deputy and friend Sam Potts (Don Haggerty) gets cheated out of $10 by the young Currys and their buddy Duke Squires (Med Flory); and the ranch turns out to be a near-ruin.But Jim is determined: this is good land, he says; with their purebred bull Duncan, he and his wife Angie (Martha Hyer) will raise "some good cattle and maybe ten or twelve more kids."Then comes full spring and the awakening of the neighborhood nemesis, a huge grizzly bear known as Old Satan ("If that beast ain't Lucifer himself he's sure his first cousin," says banker Cotton Benson (Regis Toomey), an early friend of the Coles).Satan's first visit to the Cole ranch results in a dead bull, the panicked flight of Sam's beloved mule Becky, and the injury of the family dog Solomon.Jim and Sam go hunting and manage to hurt and intimidate the animal, but as fall arrives he returns and wreaks even more havoc, not only against them but at other places in the valley. Now the cattlemen put a bounty on the bear, which draws hunter Cass Dowdy (Leo Gordon), formerly a deputy of Jim's, who bears him an old grudge and yearns to see him "busted, flat broke, and beat."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT FILM
THIS MOVIE IS MY FAVORITE DISNEY SEQEUL!I ENJOYED PARTS OF THE FILM WAS WHEN SIMBA'S DAUGHTER AND ZIRA'S SON WERE TOGETHER.I LOVE THIS MOVIE EVEN MORE BECAUSE OF it's "ROMEO & JULIET" STORY,U KNOW,the FAMILIES ARE ENEMYS,the TWO KIDS BECOME FRIENDS,ECT.I SAW THE SECOND DISC WHICH WAS INTERESTING EXCEPT THAT SHORT FILM "ONE BY ONE." I DONT GET WHAT WAS GOING ON. I'M WATCHING IT RIGHT KNOW AND STILL DON'T GET IT.ANYWAYS I ENJOYED THE FILM AND I WILL ADMIT IT, I AM A LION KING FAN.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not as good as the first one
The Lion King is one of my favourite movie. The second movie it's ok but not as good as the first one. It has poor songs, poor animation and a very poor action. However it has interesting bonus features like games or making-of. I suggest you think before buying this Disney DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another bad sequel
Why must they make sequels? Why do they insist? I thought this movie was pathetic. I love the first movie, in comparison this movie is trash. I found it confusing because although it is implied that Scar dies in the first movie he suddenly has a pride of lions. Which makes no sense at all, why would Scar have hung out with the hyeneas in the first movie if he had his own pride of lions? Where were they? I did like the the part whhere Simba's daughter and the other lion were going down the river and Rafiki is singing. ... Read more

It's hard to know who thought it would be a good idea to make a live-action version of Disney's animated classic. The one bright notion anyone had was casting Glenn Close as Disney über-villainess Cruella de Vil; her flashing eyes and angular features are a perfect match and do credit to what is one of the most indelible animated characters Disney has ever created. The story remains essentially the same, focusing on Cruella's plot to kidnap the puppies of a young married couple (Jeff Daniels and Jolie Richardson) and make them into a coat. But the dreaded John Hughes, who wrote this script, fills it with sadistic slapstick and far too few genuine laughs. The human actors work hard, but to little avail; thankfully, there's a passel of puppies to regularly steal scenes when the going gets dreary--although there are only so many laughs to be had from inappropriate dog puddles. 5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite movie of all time!
101 Dalmatians is simply my favorite movie of all time. Funny plot and loveable charcthers and great rated G horror movie. I was very young when I saw "101 Dalmatians" in 1996 and I was So scared of Cruella but, that is sort of a good thing because Glenn Close's proformance is so great and that is what I look for in a movie. Almost 10 years later, "Dalmatians" is still fresh and great. One thing I have a problem with is the price for the DVD. Even though I love this movie, Im not going to pay that price. Great movie way awful DVD price.
4-0 out of 5 stars Family Funny
In 1996, Disney remade the animated classic "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" into a live-action movie. The plot was kept very similar to the original, with enough variation from the original to keep the plot fresh.I found this version to be enjoyable and sufficiently family friendly that I have enjoyed watching it more than once.
4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected
This movie surprised me.I had expected the Disney people to give us the same load of hidden sex and I felt sure Glenn Close would have demanded extra screen time ... but I was pleasantly disappointed on both counts.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the very few movies that actually makes you laugh
I just watched my new Ice Age DVD and was delighted. Most of us like the film and I am extremely pleased with the transfer to DVD. I have a 35" TV and an older Yamaha receiver with Dolby Pro-Logic. I set the listening mode to 70mm and was very impressed with how good it sounded. I would guess the Dolby Digital soundtrack is awesome. The video transfer is gorgeous. I have waited a long time for this film to come out on DVD and I'm very happy to have this two-disc edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than "Charlotte's Web" by a long shot!
Trust me, "Babe", although written and filmed later, was much better than the other major pig movie, "Charlotte's Web". What are the highlights? How do they dominate those of the 1973 so-called "timeless classic"? Allow me to explain.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new Fairytale!
I simply adore this movie. It is a modern fairytale. Watching it for the 1st time was like being immersed in a magical land..
4-0 out of 5 stars A Tasteful, Nice Movie You'll Like and Your Child Will Learn From
I saw Babe figuring it would be cute, not knowing much else about it.It is a very nice movie, not insulting but also--interestingly--not depressing, in its sadder parts (Maa the Sheep namely). The border collies are so much like my own that I was immediately entranced.(They live, so don't fear being depressed, dog lovers!)The movie is well filmed and very tasteful, old fashioned but somehow it never in any way beats you over the head.Babe is a cute pig and a symbol of ironic good luck if there ever was one.Without gloom, the movie bluntly addresses the fact that he might just as easily have wound up on a human plate. The plot seems a bit simple and does leave a huge opening for a sequel, in that we don't see Babe grow older or have a major life change.James Cromwell is always a fine actor and his near-silent Farmer Hoggett neither oozes compassion nor meanness.A really nice touch is the subplot about the male border collie's past, how he lost most of his hearing. We also get to see a busload of baby border collies frolic and question Babe.It took me back to two litters of Labs I raised in my twenties. The movie may make you cry but it never lingers on its sadder themes and ends up leaving a satisfying feeling...though it seems rather short. The ending is obvious but only suffers from an abrupt "The End."I haven't seen the sequel but probably will, especially if it has the collies and Cromwell in it!You want to know what became of the characters.Don't be surprised if you give up pork after this movie.Whoever devised the tale seems to drive home the point that pigs are far too intelligent and feeling to be food.Personally, I can't eat pork, and this movie reminds me of why! ... Imagine your pets traveling 200 miles over mountainous terrain just to see you. What would they eat? What if a bear attacked? What if they ran into a porcupine? This Disney classic answers these questions and more with style and fun, in a story the whole family will enjoy. It tells the tale of two dogs and a cat that head for home on a 200-mile journey through the Canadian Rockies, when they are separated from the family friend who's taking care of them. With a lot of teamwork, ingenuity, and a few human friends along the way, they make it home safe and sound. Unlike the '90s remakes, the animals don't "speak" in voice-overs--and that's a vast improvement. The narrator explains the animals' thoughts, and for their feelings, we need only look at their facial expressions. This trio can act. Watch for the scene where the Siamese cat gets into a spitting match with a lynx on a tree branch, or where he and the retriever scare off a bear that's attacking the older dog. Children under five may be a little frightened by some of the larger wild animals, but there's no violence (though one of the dogs is seen briefly carrying a dead rabbit). Children of all ages will gain respect for animals as independent, loyal, and sensitive beings; and you'll see your pet with new eyes. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unsung Classic
One of my earlest childhood memories is watching this movie over and over again. It really disappoints me to hear that many people don't even realize "Homeward Bound" was a remake of this classic. This version is so wonderful for so many reasons...
5-0 out of 5 stars The Original is Always Best
I hadn't seen this movie in a good 20 years. We rented the newer version for our 5 year old and were displeased with the way it was put together. The narration and animal "acting" in this one tell the story beautifully without smart-mouthed cats and farting dogs. My daughter LOVED this version and was spellbound from start to finish. If you want the Journey to be truly Incredible, stick with the Original after all, they're almost always the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the better movie - no contest
This 1963 version of Incredible Journey is so much better than the 1990's version it's hard to know where to start. In the first place, the animals in this movie are the breeds and characters of the book. With all due respect to the talents of M. J. Fox, D. Ameche and S. Struthers (the voices in the newer movie), one of the great joys of the original is that the only voice for most of the movie is Rex Allen's voice over. The animals tell the story here, just as they do in the book, and they do it by their actions, not words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie for kids 6 and above !! The cat and dog are great!
Great movie for kids; the cat (Mrs. Murphy) and the dog are great. My 6 1/2 year old daughter loved it!!! Good Disney Fun!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shallow and a Big Disappointment
I am a huge fan of Rita Mae Brown's "Mrs. Murphy" mysteries, so I was understandably excited to watch this movie.Unfortunately, the producers of the film changed many of the characters personalities. Some of the changes were minor (Blair Bainbridge was a doctor, not a model; and Susan Tucker now owns a cafe) but some were unforgivable in that they changed the character's basic nature and made them so shallow they were one-dimensional.Considering that Rita Mae Brown's greatest strength as a storyteller is her in-depth characters, this simplifying them was really quite insulting. For example, Cynthia Cooper was somehow morphed from a tall blonde to a short black woman whose main purpose in the film was to serve as a comic counterpoint to Rick Shaw -- who lost his moustache and was changed into a stereotype of a bumbling county sheriff. This was not the fault of the actor, who tried his level best with what the writers gave him and by sheer willpower rescues any dignity Rick had left after the writers were done with him.
    1-0 out of 5 stars Why, oh why . . .
The fact that this movie has a nice cast just can't save it from the usual Hollywood stupidity. They started with a perfectly good story, written by Rita Mae Brown and as part of her Mrs. Murphy mystery series, and changed it almost beyond total recognition. These books are not great mysteries, but they are always charming, full of great character development, and quick to read. The changes made in translating the story from the book to the screen were totally unnecessary, and especially jolting when you consider how many people have actually read the books. Why the producers felt they had to change the story, change the characters and their backgrounds, and many other things is beyond comprehension. This sort of thing should not happen, but it does much too often. When will Hollywood learn to listen to people who watch their movies? ... Don't be fooled by the title. Rather than 102, there are 4 reasons to like this sequel to the successful live-action remake of Disney's animated classic. There are the 101 spotted pooches, Glenn Close back in fine form as Cruella De Vil, Oddball--the spotless dalmation pup--and Waddlesworth, a parrot who thinks he's a rottweiler (and is voiced by Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute and worth watching, just don't expect too much
I didn't expect to like this movie, but it turned out to be entertaining and kind of cute, a solid 3 star offering - and it's definitely just right for the kids. Adults will find the plot transparently obvious and standardly Disney-predictable, but then it *is* supposed to be a kids' movie! If nothing else, grownups, get it to watch the usually serious Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower and Fantastic Four) play tug-of-war with his dogs and get made fun of by his parrot, who was voiced by the incomparable Eric Idle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie.
My Grandma gave this movie to me and I really wanted to see it. I watched it and it was great. Cruella just gets released from jail and she tries to be nice because she dosen't want to go to jail again. Eventually she becomes mean and tries to kills the puppies once again. They end up at a cake factory and they cook Cruella. I enjoyed watching this movie. I think anyone should get it. A great film!

3-0 out of 5 stars CLOSE THE BOOK NOW PLEASE
101 DALMATIANS, the original animated film, is one of my favorites from childhood that I still relish as an adult now.It had charm, wit, marvelous voicing and the indomitable Cruella DeVil.The live action feature which preceded this sequel was okay, thanks mainly to the dynamically overblown and convincing Glenn Close in the role of Cruella. This sequel to that live action version is mindless entertainment, with a few clever and cute scenes, but it is basically a rehash of the original plot, with again Ms. Close obviously having a jolly good time going bonkers on screen.Gerard Depardieu was embarrassing to watch as Le Pelt, and the human leads (Alice Evans, Ioan Grufford) are too cardboard to care about.Tim McInnerny as Cruella's manservant was very enjoyable in his role, and even though the macaw finally got too cutesy, he was fun for a while.Close's costumes and hairdos were splendid fun, and it is to her credit that this movie is as fun as it is, it should've been a bomb, but Close keeps it afloat. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE CAT'S MEOW
If you are an adult who absolutely cannot tolerate what might be called "a really cute movie", then you must at all costs avoid STUART LITTLE.However, if you're either (a) an adult who can't resist such cuteness; or (b) a cat owner who loves watching cats talk, then STUART LITTLE is right up your alley!!M. Night Shamalayan (Sixth Sense, The Village) of all people is the co-writer of this whimsical adaptation of E.B. White's classic book. While the humans are insufferably coy, the animals are the true stars of this film.Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie (House, Flight of the Phoenix) ooze paternal bliss as Stuart's adopted parents, while Jonathan Lipnicki is the epitome of kid cuteness, but it's Michael J. Fox as Stuart; Nathan Lane as Snowbell, and Chazz Palmineteri, Steve Zahn, Jennifer Tilly and the other "voices" that provide the pizzazz for this movie. The wizardry of the special effects teams gives these animals life and personality, and they're just as delightful as the talking animals in "Babe."The movie's focus on heart and family is uplifting and it just provides a ninety minute cute experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's the book?!!!??
I have a couple of reasons why this is bad:
3-0 out of 5 stars Big budget nonsense!
This movie was like watching a weird cartoon where utter nonsense is accepted as normal. Reminded me of Space Jam where seeing cartoon characters and space ships landing on ball fields are accepted as no big deal. This movie may have worked better as a cartoon but I think it failed miserably as a movie.

Bored, bored, bored. That's how young Keith feels about being strandedatthe time-worn Mountain View Inn with his parents. Then he meets Ralph, anequally stir-crazy mouse who quickly befriends Keith and begs to rideKeith's toy motorcycle. Soon Ralph masters the tiny two-wheeler and"rrroom-zzzooms" through the hotel hallways, dodging four-leggedpredators, adults, and the occasional vacuum; he even risks his furryskin to help Keith recover from a high fever. Based on Beverly Cleary'sfamous children's novel of the same name, this 42-minutevideo combines live-action talent (including Ray Walston as thewise bellhop) and award-winning stop-motion animation. While the datedlook of the TV movie may not appeal to kids who prefer the heart-pumpingaction of computer-generated favorites such as Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Cute Tale
A cute tale about a young boy staying overnight at a motel with his parents, when he meets a furry little friend who resides inside the wall of his motel room. The boy and mouse help one another out in nice ways, making the stay enjoyable for both boy and mouse. Only the mouse and his family are animated in this film. Very good actors perform in the film, some of which are familar faces. My 8-year-old son enjoyed the movie, but my 10-year-old daughter was somewhat bored. The only qualm I had was I thought the voice of the mouse sounded somewhat overly "cutesy", borderline corny. The boy's voice was more mature than the mouse's. Overall, a nice family show for viewing with younger children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
The Mouse & The Motorcycle is funny, but I did hear of the book, why I wonder if there are mice that can ride motorcycles, since Stuart Little could ride a toy car.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse From a Book now in a TV Movie
Hey kids! This 1986 television special, which was based on a best-selling novel, and also had two following movies: Ralph S. Mouse(1987) and Runaway Ralph(1988), also based on novels, is a great film. The animation is kind of cheap, but it is funny in most of it, and is a great family story.Talk your parents into getting it along with the other 2.You'll luv 'em! ... One of my all-time favorites!Brilliantly displays the brutal struggles between the two species and their will to survive.A very good source of information on spotted hyenas.I love this documentary.Highly recommended for nature/animal lovers.

After waiting for several years, I finally got the DVD two days ago through National Geographic. It was $30 (including shipping) but worth every penny! This is a stunning, riveting, enlightening documentary and - for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear - a commentary on our (U.S.) culture.

I hadnt intended to write a review but i just happened to come upn its listing here and ws moved to comment. Dont read if you dont want the great scenes given away. :) Yes , this is the most powerfully affecting document i've seen.3 of the most emotionally impacting and gripping scenes and all one tape. I was very shocked and deeply saddened by what i saw . The matriach hyena being taken and in the manner that it was, the poisened lioness and the explosive arrival of the enraged male lion withhis extended slo-mo chase of the hyena .What an awesome climax whew haha . And a lioness being actually killed by the neighbouring pride not to mention the hyenas going after lionessesI had no idea all this happened . ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun family film
This movie is one of my kids' favorites. In fact, it was the first live-action movie my older daughter could sit through, probably because it's pretty cartoonish live-action. The nice thing is that grownups can stand to watch it, too. It's very silly, of course, but there are lots of funny gags, many of which go right over the heads of children. There's a little bathroom humor, but what else would you expect in a movie with talking gorillas and an elephant that plays fetch? Best of all, from my point of view, is the fact that perfectly-cast Brendan Fraser spends a good portion of the movie wearing only a loincloth.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disney Doesn't Get It
When will Disney ever learn that people could care less about Pan and Scan any more and that Widscreen editions are outselling 4:3 ratio by large margins. They could have at least provided both versions on one DVD. Top marks for this campy movie, zero stars for Disney.

5-0 out of 5 stars Startlingly Beautiful and Moving
This film would indeed by considered "slow" by contemporary viewers, and so much the worse for them. I saw it for the first time only a few weeks ago, knowing that Pauline Kael loved it, and hoping that my son would find it sufficiently engaging to give me a break from the Wiggles. I've seen it 5 times since then, and its beauty still startles me. There is no pandering in this film, either to parents or to children. There are no references to popular culture. Kelly Reno is a quiet, thoughtful boy who is never asked to play to the camera, and never does. No mood or action is unnecessarily underlined. The huge, spirited but dangerous stallion is never humanized or reduced to a toy; he remains a horse, and beautiful for that reason.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and different family movie
You won't find movies like this made any more.It would be considered "slow" by today's standards. However, the island sequences and sounds are incredibly beautiful and engaging, as well as the charming opening of the father regaling some of his intrigueing poker winnings to his son.I have to admit I fell asleep for most of the second half, but my 7 yr old son seemed mostly amused.Best fit for 6-10 yr. old kids.
