3-0 out of 5 stars Decent sequel to the dynamite first film--
Army veteran Slaughter's latest adventure doesn't take him to South America (incongruously referenced as Mexico here), but there's still plenty of trouble to be found in the U.S.
4-0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than "Slaughter"
A lot of people feel that the original "Slaughter" is the best one, but "Rip Off" is a much superior sequel. This is still a "revenge flick", but the characters are far more intersting. Jim Brown gets to have alot more fun and alot more sex. The added bonus is Dick Anthony Williams portrayal as a Pimp/Burgular who helps Slaughter bring down the Mob.The only downside to this one is that most of the songs from James Brown's classic soundtrack are missing from the movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Exciting: See the First "Slaughter" & Stella Instead
"Slaughter" may not be exactly a first-rate action film, but it still can be proud of its own energy and Stella Stevens. Its quickly-made sequel has none of them; instead, you got Ed McMahon as a villain.Oh no....Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and smart, an underrated movie destined to be a classic farce.
I didn't expect to like Booty Call. On the surface it seemed like just another ghetto comedy, however, it's actually a clever sex farce that shows African-Americans in a positive light. In between the raunchy jokes there are some great messages in this intelligent story about safe sex and relationships between African-Americans.
3-0 out of 5 stars This was a cute movie
this was a cute date movie or a movie where you might want to invite a guy over to look at as you eat chineese food with some plum wine. As a Jamie Foxx lover this movie would have suffered if he was not in it. he made the movie. that is why i wanted to look at this movie. i would like to see him and Vivica Fox do another movie. actually, i can see them do a fun Doris Day/Rock Hudson remake, like "Pillow Talk" at least Jamie can use his musical skills in it. if a producer reads this, i hope they would really consider that because they make a nice acting pair and i would love to see them do more movies together. i truly enjoyed this movie. really cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars Without Jamie Foxx, this movie would be awful
Jamie Foxx was the perfect pick for the role of 'Bunz.' He captures his personality perfectly and truly demonstrates why he is one of the funniest men alive. Tommy Davidson was funny but not as funny as we're used to seeing him, Vivica A. Fox was so so, and Tamala Jones was so so as well. Jamie Foxx carries this movie on his back and the whole condom aspect wouldn't be as funny had it not been for Jamie Foxx. A must see for Jamie Foxx fans! ... Read more

When a pal of detective John Shaft is murdered in a bombing (and $250,000 in cash turns up missing), New York's coolest private eye finds himself caught in the middle of a power struggle between black and white gangsters over the numbers racket in Queens. 3-0 out of 5 stars Can You Dig It?
Shaft's Big Score is a decent sequel, but the pacing is a bit slow at times. You can't beat The Theme From Shaft, but Big Score has got some tight music in it, keepin' it funky for the Private Dick whose a brotha man. Bumpy and Willie, my two favorite characters are back, and Bumpy is still tolerating Shaft while Bumpy maintains his hilarious disrepecting of him. About midway through is one of coolest scenes ever-Shaft is getting worked over backstage at a nightclub by Mob goons while the shots cut back and forth between busted jaws and writhing exotic dancers. The whole scene is scored with a heavily funky tune about the fuzz comin' 'round and what you gonna do when the mace comes down. Obviously, then you gotta just disrespect the Man and check this movie out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Film!!!
Can you dig it!Gotta love the action in this one.Better than the first one!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hot!

4-0 out of 5 stars [3.5]--"Let's get down to some serious B&tt-kicking business."
I don't understand anyone who says that this is one of the worst exploitation films they have ever seen. Just the title alone gives this cult status and all the ingredients are here for it being an extremely fun film to watch. Yeah I'll admit that women's Prison flicks are terrible. They are all about getting girls naked. BAD action sequences & Horrible acting always plague these movies. They're usually made for teenagers who watch late night SKINemax. Black Mama White Mama on the other hand is fun. It doesn't take it self seriously. It even has drama that is topped off with a dramatic ending.
5-0 out of 5 stars Whole Lotta Woman!!
Pam Grier is THE dish in this blaxploitation Classic!!Sleazy, campy lesbian undertones and some truly hilarious dialogue make this watchable again and again

Spike Lee's semiautobiographical, 1994 film about the good and bad times for a Brooklyn family in the '70s has passion and nostalgic good feeling, but it is also a mess of random reflections and arbitrary storytelling. The centerpiece of the movie is a little girl (Zelda Harris) who views the ups and downs of her parents' experiences (mom and dad are played by Delroy Lindo and Alfre Woodard), and who navigates the life of her neighborhood. Lee tosses in a lot of '70s detail (watching Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars in my opinion a classic movie by da underrated delroy lindo and alfrie woodard
this is one of my all time favorite movies produced by spike lee i would watch this film when i was about to go to harlem, new york to visit my family since crooklyn was a new york joint the movie starts off very funny when delroy blew his horn to call his children in for dinner however the ending is one of the most depressing finishes in film history when alfrie passed on i craved to witness crooklyn 2 to see how was the family doing a couple of years later that would have been nice to watch it could have starred almost the same cast but also included a few new faces eddie murphy as the next door neighbor since he is from brooklyn richard pryer or bill cobsy as the children's grandfather and rube d as the grandmother crooklyn was a black version of the brandy bunch from the ghetto because delroy and alfrie had a lot of children their daughter troy was the only girl in the house therefore alfrie decided it would be best that troy went to virgina to spend half the summer with her aunt, uncle, and girl cousin so would have someone the same sex as her she can relate with so as u can probably tell troy was the third person to still in this movie after delroy and alfrie

4-0 out of 5 stars no title
Another wonderful film of Spike Lee's.Reminiscent of "Do The Right Thing" with the neighborhood flavor, odd characters, a richness of detail and editing. But expecting it to be funny and light, I was disappointed. The family was always fighting and Alfre Woodard always yelling at her sons.I do have trouble with that. But they all seemed to love one another and the episode of Troy with her southern aunt was very well done, except for the odd way it was filmed. And the little girl who played Troy was effective in her role.Woodard is a truly gifted actress.I've liked her in everything she's been in.She should've gotten an Oscar for "Passion Fish".It never ceases to amaze me- the range of films that Lee has made. All of them good; most of them exceptional.Only Woody Allen comes close to such a body of work.Lee's characters are just so believable in their humanness. It's like you're looking into their lives and troubles and joys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crooklyn hits home
As you can see, I loved the movie (I did give it 5 stars right?) I think, for the people who did not enjoy it, it was more of the fact that they didn't understand it or were too critical.

this isn't a bad movie the fight choreography is very 70's style but with a heavyness to it, its still a good movie

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the BRUCEPLOITATION movies
I saw this movie first time round back in 1983 and it was the first and best bruce lee imatation movie. As I come from the United Kingdom the version I saw came under the title THE TIGER STRIKES AGAIN(a.k.a. THE LAST STRIKE),and when it was re-released seven years later it was heavily cut (i.e. the nunchacku scenes, due to the stupid censorship laws in the uk,which are now more lenient,we were forbidden to see this amazing weapon in action.) so I decided buy it from amazon and boy was I glad I did so.It is really a simple plot involving freindship, love, betrayal, rape, murder and revenge but if you look beyond the awful dubbing and not so brilliant acting then you really can be pulled into it mainly because of of it's top notch martial arts coreography, which has to be li's finest hour.Okay I know he's no bruce Lee,and there will never be another Bruce Lee,but when it comes to seeing other imatations like Bruce Le,Dragon Lee,Bronson Lee and Bruce Liang he outshines them all and was a good martial arts performer in his own right. If your a hardcore kung fu fan and looking for a good leealike movie then your search has ended because this is the best of the BRUCEPLOITATION movies ever. You wont be disapointed.

They didn't call him "Mr. Entertainment" for nothing. Everyone of Gen-X age--or younger--should pop this baby in the VCR to see what made a star astar before postproduction technology could bail out the "talent." Filledwith clips that date to the 1930s, the producers were smart enough to let themspeak for themselves. There's Davis tap dancing away as a little boy, showcased in footage from a 1964 television special, and appearing on TV talkshows in another era, with his cigarette smoke swirling about him. There's no shortage of intriguing details--he helped break the color barrier in Las Vegas, had "Frank Sinatra envy" despite considering the fellow Rat Packer a close friend, postponed his wedding to his second wife until after JFK's inaugural (because she was white), and once tried to commit suicide bydriving off a cliff. Punctuating the human drama is a lot of sensationalfootage, including his last public performance, when, although weakened bychemotherapy, he still went toe-to-toe with Gregory Hines, another tap-dance great, and won. 4-0 out of 5 stars IF YOU'RE A JOE LOUIS FAN, YOU'LL LIKE THIS VIDEO.
This video contains exciting knock-out scenes from many of Joe's memorablefights, and it brings back the thrill of watching the greatest of allheavyweight champions at the peak of his fighting prowess. My onlycriticisms are, it didn't show enough of the fights that it featured, andit should have featured more of Joe's fights. In other words, I wouldgladly have paid twice the price for a video that covered Joe Louis' careerin greater depth. Nevertheless, it is well worth the money, and it belongsin the video library of every Joe Louis fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent bio, but should have been longer
This is a decent bio of Joe Louis, but it only scratches the surface of profiling the "Brown Bomber's" career.Too many great fights are not even shown, such as the Primo Carnera bout, and the clips that areshown are way too brief. For example, they show about 25 seconds of thefirst round of Louis-Braddock.Yet the producers of the show fail toinclude the moment when Louis is unexpectedly knocked down! This video hassome memorable fight clips and interviews (such as Tony Galento whiningafter his loss to Louis), but it always leaves me wanting to see more. Billy Conn is one of the hosts of this special, and while he was a greatfighter and person, he wasn't a good commentator.Still, for $10 bucks Iguess you can't expect too much.

3-0 out of 5 stars a tournament in history
NOT SO BAD FOR KENNEDY BUT ONLY QUICK SHORT ARCHIVES OF THE FABS INSIDE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT OF HISTORY !

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Source of Information
Robert F. Kennedy is such a good speaker and a great activist. 'Cuz he preaches about the nation that is happening in our lives and the country we live. The reason why I'm reviewing this right now 'cuz this is a must-have to read over your history a little bit. 'Cuz I grew up behind the documentaries and cultures of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy or Jacqueline Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and so on and on.
5-0 out of 5 stars A GOOD SOURCE OF INFORMATION
Robert Kennedy was a very effective speaker. In listening to him and inreading his works, he certainly gave the impression that he spoke straightfrom experience and direct feeling. From all accounts of those who knewhim personally, he was consistently described as a "gutreactionary," "a man who understood direct action andconsequences" and "impulsive."Indeed, from all readingsand descriptions of the man one can see the veracity of those statements. I remember as a child when I watched his campaign thinking, "he reallymeans what he's telling people. He really cares. If he's president, the[Vietnam] war will be over."My mother used to say that RobertKennedy was "aman who cares about people" and used thatstatement to convince others to vote for him.My personal recollections ofwatching the senator in action among crowds was one of, "people wantto listen to him because he cares about them."Most adult readerswill appreciate his use of classical literature to shape his speeches -- itis a true testament to his intelligence and willingness to meet personalgoals to self educate himself as an adult in the classics. That issomething I truly respect and this aspect comes through in this book.Itis an excellent collection of his speeches and readers will certainly get asense of the man who would most likely be president in 1968. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE.......JUST HORRIBLE..STAY AWAY FROM THIS....IT IS RIDICULOUS
Here we go. If you are considering purchasing this movie, then make your own decision for yourself, this is just my opinion here. This film is horrible. The first Superfly was wonderful, packed with an awesome soundtrack, and a good script for a black exploitation film. This thing here, this is where they just wasted American dollars. That is right, I believe money was completely wasted producing a film like this, and if you catch it on television any time soon, the channel is just trying to gain black viewership in a cheap manner. The film was so boring I couldn't watch anymore. Superfly, once the cool dealer from the city, is sitting on a horse saying "wooh now baby, get it togetha now get it togetha". Once you see that scene in the movie, if that does not annoy you then I don't know what will. "GET IT TOGETHA NOW" No the horse should throw run you into a tree branch, buddy. Ron O'neal was a great actor, but um, this film didn't do him any good. It was a massive flop in the 70s and is still horrible to watch. You know, I can't imagine anyone buying this film except someone who admires black exploitation films and thought this would follow up on the trend.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SEQUEL WITH A SOLID SCRIPT
Ron O'Neal and Alex Haley did a fine job with this sequel and it's my favorite of the three Suerfly films. I've shared my love for this film and many people have told me that they didn't like the idea of Superfly not being a drug dealer. That's too bad. The first film was about getting out of the life and this continues where the first one left off. O'Neal gives a powerful performance as a man taking control of his own life and finding himself and his roots. As a first time director O'Neal did a great job. His only real "error" is in the third act when our hero is shown working on a complicated plan to escape from his captors. This scene takes place in real time and shows that Priest lives by his wits but it's far from quick or simple. It moves along slower than the more action packed finale of the first Superfly and isn't as satisfying. However, there are so many great moments in the rest of the film that it really is far better than some say it is. This is well written with a powerful performance by O'Neal. The rest of the cast is excellent too. Superfly T.N.T. remains my favorite Superfly.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Experience in Boredom
A total fiasco! This movie doesn't even come near as " so bad is good " since is a total bore! The original SUPERFLY is an urban classic with a wonderful Curtis Mayfield score. This one the music by OSIBISA is good but not enough to compensate Mr. Ron O'Neal's lousy direction and Alex Hailey boring script. Sure, Mr.Hailey did a better job with ROOTS, but this story was dumb, uninteresting & forgettable. Beware, you have been warned! ... Read more

I have to tap into my memory banks to recall a more repulsive film.I came up with "I Spit On Your Grave".Director-star Melvin Van Peebles has the audacity to pawn off his nihilistic fantasies as wish fullfilment for the black population as a whole. There were a lot of artistic triumphs to emerge from so-called "black expoitation" genre and this is not one of them. This collage of violently misogynistic images can be attributed to the auteur himself. The film starts with Van Peebles exploiting his son Mario by showing the adolescent servicing a prostitute. The film goes downward from there.Van Peebles directorial style is hackneyed and the acting is amateur hour.Don't be fooled into thinking this is some sort of landmark film. It's unadulterated [...]

2-0 out of 5 stars You Had To Be There
Made for a pittance, initially released in just two theaters, ultimately grossing over ten million dollars, "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song" became the progenitor of the "Blaxploitation" film craze of the seventies. Considered a seminal film in African-American cinema, Director Van Peebles feels it influenced the independent film movement as a whole. Its jazzy editing and strong hero set it miles apart from the standard fare - one can see how African-American audiences could see this film as a long-overdue cinematic thunderbolt.

SWEETBACK WAS THE ORIGINATOR OF THE BLAXPLOITATION GENRE!!Look!Lets be real, Sweetback wasn't that great a movie. However it spawned a movement of Black cinema. How are you going to like films like Coffy and Shaft if you aren't going to acknowledge the movie that started it all. Before Sweetback we had only one star, Poitier. Poitier was fading because the new generation didn't think he was militant enough. To us Poitier was the good negro, a Uncle Tom.We needed a film that would represent the times. YES!! Police brutality was happening. It wasn't something that was made up. YES!!! the new generation was different from previous generation and we was fed up with the system. The film didn't have great cinematography, nor a great script, nor great direction, but it did speak for the millions of angry, youngminorities who felt they didn't have a voice.Whats worse we had some rich minorities who condemned the film but didn't have the guts to put the capital together to put out a better film that spoke to their people. So go ahead a write all the bad reviews that you want about Sweetback, butif it wasn't for Melvin Van Peebles you wouln't heard of Pam Grier (who we all love) and Richard Roundtree and Fred Williamson.Hollywood blackballed (yes this existalso) Melvin van Peebles, but used his formula to make millions of dollars. GOD BLESS MELVIN VAN PEEBLES ... Read more
