2-0 out of 5 stars Don't blink
I bought this video to help me lower my high blood pressure... think it raised it! I found the video very hard to follow. In the middle of a routine, the instuctor shouts CHANGE for a 1 step variation that threw me totally off for a significant chunk of the routine. I ended up making up my own routine to go with the music. Think I'll stick with Margaret Richards & Jane Fonda.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow, easy to sweat
I bought this video last year and been using it since. It's a good workout and you really sweat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workout
this is an excellent workout tape.i came across this video because i have begun a workout regimen.this was one of the 20 videos i checked out from the library that was so worthwhile that after several weeks of using it, i purchased it and still love it.it has dance moves that are challenging and fun but not too hard.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kari Anderson- One on One Step Aerobics
I really liked this video.I think it's great for all levels of fitness.I was very fit, then had some medical problems and I'm just beginning again.I found Kari's instructions easy to follow and I can adjust the workouts as I go.If I ever get bored, I'll add the other Shape Personal Training System Videos to my collection also.I gave it a 4 because it could use some more upbeat music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kari Anderson delivers - again
Kari Anderson is easy to follow, staying one step ahead of you at all times. I liked this video because there wasn't a lot of jumping moves (although she does demonstrate a few jumps for an alternate, higher-intensity workout) or complicated choreography. Basically, Kari Anderson is a great instructor and she's becoming a permanent addition to my home exercise library.I only gave this 4 out of 5 stars because the set they used was very cheap and cheesy... If you can ignore that part and just keep your focus on the workout you'll do fine!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter
Kari Anderson is a phenomenal instructor. Her one-on-one video is a great beginner step workout. She explains the moves very well, and as you get better there is room to make the workout more intense. This is anexcellent way to learn step and prepare for her other excellent videos. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth a dime
This is suppose to be a beginners aerobics. Do not get this. As soon as you start to break a sweat she changes the aerobics in to dances and it is hard to follow her moves and by that time you have lost your sweat trying to follow her dance moves. very unfair tape for everyone. If she would have stuck with the aerobics and not tried to add fancy dances in the tape it would have beengreat. She ruined her own tape by making it confusing trying to be a big dancer. Not worth a dime. Not user friendly. This is suppose to be a beginners aerobic tape.By the time you try and follow her dance moves you have lost your sweat and the tape is worthless.Do not waste your money on this. I will stick withThe Jane Fonda workouts. I still have not found anyone who can top her aerobics tapes. They may be hard ( depends the one you pick) but they are understandable and she never confused her workouts adding stupid dances that take away time from the work out as Denise Austin has.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you're a Denise Austin fan you'll love this one
I recently purchased three videos with exercises aimed at getting one back into shape. The other two were Startin' Simple Easy Aerobics and Fabulous Forever with Mirabai Holland. This was one of the best of the three.I haven't exercised for three years, and I am recoveing from knee surgery.I found Denise Austin's Xtralite aerobics easy on my limbs and fairly easy to follow. She is, as always, invigorating and inspiring to watch and follow. My only concern is that people who have never done aerobics might have trouble following the routines. She does not always explain the steps, and she assumes viewers know basics such as grapevine and ball-change steps. People who do not already know these things will probably feel frustrated the first few times they use the tape.Austin also adds some hops and skips to the routine, which I can not do.They are not mandatory, and I am not even sure she is aware that she does them. But Denise is Denise -- energetic, bouncy and breathless.I love her, and this tape has been a great help for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad soundtrack
Denise Austin is excellent, it is too bad we can't hear what she is saying. Because of the wind, waves crashing and too loud music she is inaudible. From other tapes I have of her, she gives good tips just when you need them, on this one it is impossible.I have to turn the audio off in order to concentrate the noise is so bad. It is too bad. Otherwise a good workout but I would not reccommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Would be great if slowed down 10-20%
This tape uses a lot of moves that were popular in high-impact aerobics classes back in the 80's and early 90's.I don't have a problem with that, but the tape just moves too fast. I can't execute the moves as fast as they do on the tape, at least not with anything like a full range of motion. A very short person might be able to.I was disappointed in the tape and can't really get a good workout from it.It is also weak in the pre-stretching and cooldown.

5-0 out of 5 stars True to its title!
One thing is for sure - you will sweat! Thus, you will get an excellent workout.Be warned that this is high energy, and Kari loves turns, so be careful.Don't try everything at once, and don't be afraid to leave out jumps and turns until you are more familiar with the choreography. Some days I have to hit the pause button and walk around to catch my breath, but I'm always so proud of myself when I finish. This is an older style of aerobics that you don't see much anymore, and it's a nice change from more "modern" workouts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout - probably not for beginners
This is a great cardio workout - do the entire thing and you'll be panting and sweating (which always makes me feel like I've achieved something!). Read more

Editorial Review

"Burn that butter!" demands Denise Austin. Austin, looking tanned and trim in a one-piece swimsuit, works out on the beach, with an ocean scene behind her. This is a true beginner's workout, with few moves and plenty of opportunities to catch your breath. The 5-minute warm-up is simple, with lots of low kicks and some stretches. Next is a 20-minute aerobic set, all easy low-impact moves, repeated many times. If you're brand new to exercise and you're fearful of choreography, this video will make it easy to start moving. The first moves are extremely simple, just walking, tapping, and kicking. Then Austin starts adding a few dancier moves, such as the grapevine, mambo, cha-cha, and box step. When she introduces the few moves that you won't catch right away, she unfortunately doesn't slow them down or describe what the feet do. She repeats each move enough that you'll get it with some practice, though. At the end is a 5-minute cool-down with standing stretches. If you like variety in your choreography, this video won't hold your interest, but if you're happy repeating moves that you've learned, this might be a good one to help you get active. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stepping Your Way To Health
Though this is a dated tape, and the music isn't the greatest, it is the vigorous exercise that is important. What I like best about this video is that you don't even need a step bench to get a good workout. You can still follow all the moves and of course Leslie is fantastic as always. Having a step bench just intensifies the workout and burns more calories. Either way it's a tape to be added to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best For Beginners!
Wow -- is this video great!I've been using it for almost a month, and I love it!I haven't been exercising for about a year, and this is the perfect program for me now.I've never done step aerobics before, and this is the best introduction I could have hoped for, even though it is dated. It's also super for those who, like me, need specific instructions as to the steps (even simple ones!) and who are uncoordinated.I couldn't have ordered up anything more perfect! This video is fun, and Leslie Sansone is pleasant and seems like a real person, not an overly-made up exercise goddess.I would highly recommend this for those just beginning to exercise or those who are re-introducing exercise into their lives. The steps are very basic, and walk aerobics (walking in place) are included.Everyone can do it!God bless you, Leslie Sansone!

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow!
I am a total klutz, and I can follow this tape, so I'll bet you can too!Simpler even than Leslie's Two Mile Walk, but it still makes you sweat. The only reason I'm giving this four instead of five stars is that I wishit was about 5 minutes longer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm buying another copy!
Leslie is from where I am in Pennsylvania and I can remember doing this video with my mom at a young age just for fun.Since then whenever I wanted a good workout I always went back to this video.(I knew her words by heart!)I've got my own place now, married and on a low carb diet and want to incorporate a workout as well and thought I'd look for my own copy of the video.I'm so glad I found it easily and I might pick up some of Leslie's more advance videos as well. She's fun and the video is easy for any fitness level!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
I was pleased when my dayghter-in-law gave me her copy of this walk aerobics video by Leslie. She's wonderful, I have enjoyed it so much that I do it twice a day, morning and evening. Am trying to purchase her advanced walk aerobics video, but having some difficulties. Do you have an outlet in Australia selling Leslies great workouts.Have benefited greatly. Keep up the great work...

5-0 out of 5 stars Another triumph by Susan Harris
Like in the first Firm video, you get one of the best instructers.Susan Harris returns again in the shorter volume 4.This is one of the most intense and best all around workout. The same mansion setting, same soothing and intense music to keep you motivated.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great workout!
I've had this video for years, and I found it to be a very effective workout, at least for a beginner. The first few times I tried it, I could barely get through the whole video, but after a while I was able to do it with no problem. This video really does give you results, and it can be modified by adding heavier or lighter weights, depending on your fitness level.

3-0 out of 5 stars keeping time
I have been a life-long exerciser.Sometimes I stray and ignore exercising for a few months. When I am getting back in the groove I like to ease into it and I was looking for something that was real exercise but not quite the level of the Firm tapes that I usually follow.I thought I would try this one. It's okay however, the exercisers on the tape are completely asynchronis. They just can't keep a beat. They are not in time with the music, nor are they in time with each other.I find that to do this DVD, I either have to turn away from the screen or else perform the moves with my eyes closed. (which may just help my balance)If beat and coordination are important to you, this is not the tape for you.Otherwise, it's an okay, quick workout.(For quick, skip the intro and go directly to the workout.)

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit boring
I'm in my 50s and, having always been active, find none of the workouts very challenging.Too repetitious.Strictly for beginners.

2-0 out of 5 stars got this for my mom
The title says "keeping fit" which implies you already have been fit and are active. My mom is not a die hard, but does walk and uses a stationary bike now and then. She found this work out to be not very challenging at all... so I would recommend this only to someone who has been *sitting* for 50 years. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great cardio with great stress reduction
My mom had this tape and wore it out so she had to buy another one. This is split up into three parts.20 minutes of fat burning aerobics,20 minutes of relaxing stetch, and the 10 minutes of it is a stress reduction sequence as you lay down and close your eyes when jane talks all the stress out of you.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great All Around Aerobic Video
Background: I'm a professional in my late 30's 5'9, 160lbs. Not in perfect shape but not uncomfortably overweight at this time, though I was in the past. I've owned this video since it first came out in the mid 80's. This video can appeal to the rock-bottom beginners because there are participants who show you how to move at a slower pace, and intermediate aerobicizers who can follow Jane. The camera work is excellent. Rarely shows close-up "face shots" and always shows the routine so you don't get lost. Jane is also excellent at telling you what you should be doing. Although I have several other videos (Denise Austin and some of the others) this still remains my favorite over the years. As I've increased my stamina, I will go through the first three sets and then rewinde back to the second set doing the second and third set a second time. I highly recommend it for beginners and intermediates!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly stress reducing!
This video is not only perfect for beginners, it is also for fit people that are very stressed. The music and clothing (they all wear pastel shades) are stress-free. The steps are not frustrating at all, which is most important. I love the workout for days I don't want to have to concentrate and still have a good time. It is short, only 20 minutes or slightly longer. Then is a 20 minute stretch which is alone worth keeping the video for if you've outgrown the aerobic section. After the stretch (which feels great on tense neck & shoulders) there is a voice relaxation section where you lay on the floor, and just listen to Jane. I never do that part, so I can't comment on it. If you like Jane Fonda workouts or ever feel the need to destress in 40 minutes, you've got to try this one! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars IF YOU LIKE TO DANCE, IT'S FUN BUT...
I LOVED THE MUSIC,I LOVED THE MOVES; THAT'S IT. QUALITY OF PRODUCTION,& SOUND ...; AND I HAVE THE DVD! IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIANCE DANCING TO REGGAE YOU WILL GET LOST IN THE WARM UP FOR THERE IS NOT ANY EXPLINATION. IN THE SECOND HALF, GUSDOES LET YOU AT LEAST KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT THOUGH. AND THEY SO NEED TO LOSE THE "QUEEN". NOT TO MENTION, PATRA (AND I LIKE HER!), WHO IS CLEARLY DOING HER OWN THING. I WILL USE IT BECAUSE I LIKE TO DANCE BUT LET'S FACE IT , IT'S CHEESY.SERIOUSLY, IF YOU LIKE THE MUSIC AND LIKE TO GROOVE YOU CAN LOOK PAST EVERYTHING ELSE; I'M JUST SAYING DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH AND YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED.

4-0 out of 5 stars its fun!!!
Hey..I don't know what everybody is fussing about. i bought the video and i love it, i have been dying to know how the moves go. but anyway i agree on one thing it is not for people who want to lose weight. it is for people who want to maintain their weight and have fun doing it. beisde i am from the islands so maybe that is why i like it. the moves are kind of quick, but if you really look at what she and the guy does a couple of times. you will get kind of a grip on it. besides for anybody to do those moves that good, you have to watch the video more than once!!! i can tell you one think i know how to do the butterfly move and the turtle move now...

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun for beginners, but...
I recently bought this tape, but I was a bit disappointed. It was a little cheesy visually speaking. They could've done without the intro by Pageant Queen, it made them seem like they're trying too hard. It was good to see Patra in the first 1/2 hr. On a good note, the moves were fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workout
I LOVE this video! It was simple to follow, but challenging just the same.It was nice to do excercises that you only needed your body to perform, no equipment necessary. The three girls in the video were totally inspiring because they weren't annoying -- just COOL (and super fit)!Try it if you want something new when you're shut inside this winter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good cardio workout
This workout is similar to the 20 Minute Workout, only it is a mix of high and low impact aerobics, and it is longer. There areabout 5 aerobic sections, then 1 section to work the thighs, 1 for the waist, and a cooldown. Total run time is 40-50 minutes. The moves are pretty easy to follow for a beginner, and it really makes you sweat.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wanna Be Dizzy and Frustrated??
This is awful and not for a first timer. You rarely see the instuctor's feet, they do not explain the moves and the camera rotates around three ladies constantly. The background is white,

Another gem from the Firm.LaReine Chabut is awesome and very motivating. This has a twelve minute aerobic section that lets you choose twelve minutes or the full effect of twenty something minutes.I usual do the rewind thing a do twenty minutes. It uses the aerobic stool and of course the Firm Fanny lifter. This tape also helped me lose 80 pounds it is wonderful.Another plus is that you get a great lower body by the fanny lifter and the tough floor work at the end of it.It has sure shaped my lower body and it will do the same for you.LaReine Chabut is awesome.

Instructor Lisa Stone developed this physically demanding buteasy-to-follow prenatal exercise program during her own pregnancies. Shebegins the 57-minute tape by going over the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) safety guidelines in detail, and then begins the 44-minute workout with a warm-up filled with familiarsteps: step-touch, hamstring curls, grapevine. Stone's three 7-minute stepsegments are conducted with several other pregnant women in the background, including one in her ninth month who demonstrates versions of all theexercises without a step. The lower-body conditioning is done with the stepor a chair, and an exercise band would be helpful. She conducts the abdominalwork on the floor and includes Kegels and gluteal work, followed by cool-downstretches and relaxation. Stone's tape has a visual twist: instead of theusual sterile studio, she taped her workout in a huge room withhardwood floors and an enormous (unlit) fireplace. After the workout, thegroup gathers for a Q&A with an informative (if stiff and overrehearsed) ob-gynon the benefits and limitations of exercise during pregnancy. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars former Advanced Stepper - Very Good Workout
I am 27 weeeks pregnant.A former aerobics instructor who loved very advanced step routines. Now, several years later, I am having a great week when I exercise 3x a week. So, I am not in tip top shape, but good enough.
2-0 out of 5 stars Boring, poor sound , not for beginners.
This video is not for beginners I even tried modifying it myself but it didn't work. Lisa doesn't consider the fact that you are working mirrored to her wich makes it very difficult to keep up with. Also she looks very pregnant on the cover but in the video I don't even think she is. The sound was horrible and annoying her voice has this echoing sound that drove me nuts. I would recommend for everyone beg.to adv. the Kathy Smith Pregnancy Workout and Leisa Hart's Fitmamma both are way better. The only reason I gave this video two stars is because the lower body toning was great. And this might be good for advanced people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but poor sound quality
I thought the workout was challenging and very adjustable, but the production quality was poor. The workout got my heart racing, and I was able to use this video through my second trimester. I also noticed that the instructor got off tempo at times. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This 1990 light-intensity workout, designed for beginning exercisers over 40, is extremely simple: many repetitions of marching in place, walking forward and back, step-touches, and low kicks. Leslie Sansone, chipper and cute, leads a 20-minute low-impact routine, with a five-minute warm-up and a five-minute cool-down. The workout is quite repetitious: you might march for more than 100 beats, broken up only by a few arm variations. Then you might kick 32 times. Considering all the workout videos Sansone has made, it's annoying that she cues her own left and right rather than yours (you're facing her, therefore her right is your left) and she incessantly chants the wrong "right, left, right, left." This video is for beginning exercisers who wish to keep the intensity low and don't get bored repeating the same four moves for half an hour. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good aerobic workout
Yes, this workout is dated, as you can tell by the outfits and the big hair. But it still, in my opinion, provides a decent aerobic workout. This is an early Leslie Sansone tape, done back when she called what she does Walkaerobics. I worked up a sweat while doing this tape and it has a good warmup and cooldown. My only question was that if itreally constituted doing two miles. By my dvd counter the tape only ran about 25-26 minutes, so I'm not sure it is an actual two mile workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple yet effective
I am 47 years old and have not exercised in some time. I bought this on VHS and loved it. The program is so simple to follow that I just bought this for my 75 year old mother. The steps are very easy, but the workout is effective. It does elevate the heart rate. You can workout in your own living room with only your gym shoes for equipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fuels motivation
I checked this video out at the library along with the regular two-mile walk.I absolutely love it.Yes, it's from the early 90s and there's a little too much hairspray and thick black eyeliner, but Leslie's enthusiasm and encouragement make you tend to forget about it.Now I look forward to getting up in the morning and exercising before I even start my work day. Before, it was the last thing I'd think about doing, and then it wouldn't get done at all and I'd be disappointed that I let another day go by without taking better care of myself.I found the regular two-mile walk too difficult; I thought I was going to keel over dead by the 3/4 mile mark because there were so many lunges, but the over-40 tape is just right for those of us who've kept saying "I'll start working out tomorrow."If it's a little too easy, just add some of the arm movements or knee lifts and kicks when she's instructing just marching in place (like a couple of the people in the tape do), or add some wrist or ankle weights. As Leslie says so often (to paraphrase), it's not about fancy moves, it's about keeping moving, keeping your heart rate up, changing your body for the good.I've just ordered this tape and I'll definitely buy a few more just for variety. ...
