Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. Monarchies tend to create dysfunctional families.
Disney's "The Lion King" is a pretty good movie about a young lion cub, named Simba, who is to become king of a place called Pride Rock located in the appropriately named Pride Lands. I always thought that the part where Simba's father, Mufasa, is killed by his brother, Scar, was kind of tough to watch. On the other hand, from a historical standpoint, scenarios like these were at some point a commoplace reality, all because of an intense desire for power. The most memorable part of the film is the scene where Scar turns on the hyenas, to whom he'd referred as the "real enemy," then tries to make up with them right afterwards by calling them his "friends." The best part was the subsequent reaction by the hyenas to his double crossing.

this movie was incredable. i don't understand how people can dislike this film. this movie's deep and intense story made it great for children AND their parents, a feat rarely accomplished. but rather than stay depressing and traumatizing, this film goes from drama to side-splitting humor within 13 seconds. the best part is that this is all done with seemless perfection.

Stop Limiting Issues
I don't have this dvd and wouldn't buy it unless i was desperate.Disney is always pulling stuff like this: "Limited Issue, Limited Adition, Limited time Only", To Be Perfectly honest, it's becoming quite annoying.The only point i could think of for owning this dvd is because it's "dvd". However i believe it is a waste of money and a vhs copy is sufficent at this point. When they put it out again it should have the special features it deserves.

Funny, cute and exciting!
This animated Disney classic is about a orphan named Mowgli, who lives in the jungle and befriends all kinds of animals such as elephants, a bear named Baloo, and other naimals.
A mix-up between good and bad
Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK seems rather irrelevant today when you look at the film. The movie was made in 1967, a time when the Golden Age of Animation was clearly over, especially for Disney. Watching this movie on laserdisc a couple of days ago I noticed how grainy the animation looked. And one shot looked like it was an exact copy of another shot. I understand whyDisney used did every single thing by hand--painstakingly doing it frame by frame. Every thing was carefully detailed. But by the 1960's it was too expensive to do. They started cutting corners. The animation grew worse in the 1970's, and it wasn't until new technology came out in the 80's that animation regained its glory.

A Genuine Disney Classic
Disney's fourteenth animated feature is one of Disney's best animated movies, as well as one of Disney's best movies.Though J. M. Barrie's classic "Wendy and Peter," which was later titled "Peter Pan," inspired this feature rather than being a model for it, the movie stands on its own as a wonderful children's story.
Correction, Please
Just a brief correction of the previous review.Your heart's in the right place, Charles (fellow Atlantan!) and you're absolutely correct to insist that PETER PAN isn't a widescreen film...but KING & I most definitely WAS NOT the first widescreen movie.That honor likely falls to Abel Gance's 1927 masterpiece NAPOLEON.Even in the modern era, Fox had had their Cinemascope process going strong for 3 years by the time KING & I appeared.The first Cinemascope film was THE ROBE, released on September 16, 1953, followed by BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF the same year and then dozens of others.It IS true that the first widescreen cartoon feature did not appear until 1956: Disney's own LADY AND THE TRAMP, also in Cinemascope.At any rate, buyers can approach this disc with confidence; nothing at all is "cut-off."

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). A great Disney classic
The jungle book is about a human boy named Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, until it is decided that he can't stay in the jungle anymore. Bagheera has problems getting Mowgli back to the man village, because Mowgli dosen't want to leave the jungle. Then Mowgli meets baloo the bear. After an encounter with the mad King Louie of the apes, and pressed to return to the man village by Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli runs away. Later on, Mowgli meets Shere Khan, the tiger. I can't tell you what happens at the end, you'll have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, halfway through the production of the jungle book, Walt Disney died. A Great Teaching tool
This movie has everlasting usefulness as a teaching tool for kids AND adults. It should be put on DVD and marketed vigorously. It teaches values, work ethic, appreciation and much much more
We Love It
I've never read the book but we love the movie. I've always wanted to read the book but never found time, not much of a reader. I still intend to read it someday but until then this really is an enjoyable movie. I find unrealistic bloopers in movies about how people would really act in any give situation and I have always felt comfortable with the realisticness of this movie. Love it.

Johny Depp eat your heart out
This is a great pirate film. Based on a great novel. Though it lacks a love interest it is none the less a fine story. Superbly acted. Heston really did a great job. Superbly costumed. Excellent sets. Beutiful scenery.

Lovely Adaptation of Maeterlinck's Classic Play
Curly Shirley Temple lends her dimpled, pouty-mouthed winsomeness to the tale of a young girl and her brother(Johnny Russell)who live in Austria/Bavaria during the Napoleanic Wars.

it's the first one.what do you expect?
I enjoyed this movie immensely. But, like "The Phantom Menace," I've had a very hard time viewing it objectively. There was so much anticipation leading up to its release, I simply enjoyed the experience of being there. Having read all four books in the series a few times each, I am overly familiar with the events in the story. As I watched the movie, my continuing thought was "How well will the next part of the story be translated to the screen?" rather than "How entertaining is this film overall?" I have trouble answering the latter question because I was already entertained by watching a wonderful story dramatized, so I'll never know how I'd have reacted had I seen this movie without having read the books.

this movie was awesome. columbus starts the move sirius brilliantly, it was just awesome. it stuck to the book so well. i think ive watched it a hundred times. its just so great

Tall Tale: Unbelievable Adventure
We watched with 2 of our grandsons and loved this movie!! They fell in love with Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and John Henry, which I remembered from childhood...I am buying them the movie and books about these 3 wonderful characters for Christmas..It's so good to watch a movie without all the profanity that has a good moral story...

what a movie!
First off I think that it should get more then 5 stars.I first saw this movie when it was first out.I went and saw it with me friend for me b-day.Let's just say it change our lives.It gave us something to think about, something to play(You know how when you're young you like to make up things that's what we did) This movie is great for anyone to watch.It's just great! Even if this movie was made for TV it should have been released for the big screen. As it is nobody seems to know this gem. Insanely great music, Johnny Reno's My Mistake alone worth the price of the tape. Great characters like the Nixer and Dude. This movie has major cult potential if only people knew about it.

Great JD Hommage - Nonstop Fun
I have seen this movie more than ten times and I never tire of watching it. It's got everything: humor, action, romance, Blaise Pascal's pensees (remember Nixer's French Fry/Human Condition analogy), and most of all, red hot rock and roll music. Unsung Classic
One of my earlest childhood memories is watching this movie over and over again.It really disappoints me to hear that many people don't even realize "Homeward Bound" was a remake of this classic.This version is so wonderful for so many reasons...
The Original is Always Best
I hadn't seen this movie in a good 20 years. We rented the newer version for our 5 year old and were displeased with the way it was put together. The narration and animal "acting" in this one tell the story beautifully without smart-mouthed cats and farting dogs. My daughter LOVED this version and was spellbound from start to finish. If you want the Journey to be truly Incredible, stick with the Original after all, they're almost always the best.

this is the better movie - no contest
This 1963 version of Incredible Journey is so much better than the 1990's version it's hard to know where to start.In the first place, the animals in this movie are the breeds and characters of the book.With all due respect to the talents of M. J. Fox, D. Ameche and S. Struthers (the voices in the newer movie), one of the great joys of the original is that the only voice for most of the movie is Rex Allen's voice over.The animals tell the story here, just as they do in the book, and they do it by their actions, not words.

A Very Popular And Enjoyable Film
Even though this film was released in 1985, now, more than 20 years later, it is still highly entertaining.You get at least a few moments with each character, develop a feel for them, and come to like them all.You really want to see them succeed, and the suspense of whether they will or not is constant.This movie is good for all ages, and is rated PG.The Cyndi Lauper "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" song was a nice touch.Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg created a magical movie that will be enjoyed for years to come.

My Daughter is Addicted to this movie.
Bedknobs gets 5 stars because it's one of my daughter's favorites. It gets played over and over again. It's a simple magical story with silly songs. I don't quite understand why this movie is so special to daughter. She is autistic and one thing I know about her tastes is that she gets bored very easily with contrived, canned entertainment. If it comes from the heart, she really takes it to her heart. Maybe the ensemble that put together this movie had a lot of fun doing it and she picks up on that. She prefers it over Mary Poppins and much prefers it over Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang
