4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Research on the Black Dahlia Case
It is a great review of the brutal case and current research.I have often wondered if the Black Dahlia event, was really the first murder performed by the Zodiac. There has to bea triangle of terror, linking the three cases of the Jack the Ripper,Black Dahlia, and the Zodiac .London artist Walter Sickert had passed away ,in 1947.He is considered ,by some researchers ,to be the leading Jack the Ripper suspect. And the wealthy ,oddball art patron Dr.George Hodel ,is now suspected of being the BD killer,by even his own son, retired LAPD cop,Stephan Hodel. Beth Short lived in Vallejo(NorCal), as did the leading Zodiac suspect Arthur Leigh Allen. Their houses were three streets apart .In time the cases will show a definative connection between the three directly,i'm sure of this. The film adds more insight and raises many questions of interest for the Black Dahlia case.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tv film- Black Dahlia
This is info to the reviewer from Marion, Ind who wanted to know if there was ever a film made on The Black Dahlia. Yes there was back in the 70's with Lucie Arnaz . It was a tv film and don't think that it was ever put on VHS. I'vebeen looking for it myself and they don't seem to repeat this film on tv.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT DOCUMENTARY
An exceptional documentary, with dramatized re-enactments.Most chilling is the re-enactment of author John Gilmore interviewing the most likely suspect. This segment, showing Gilmore and the suspected killer talking in a bar is followed by a re-enactment of the murder, as it was presented in Gilmore's book, SEVERED: THE TRUE STORY OF THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.A fascinating exploration into the twisted and strange Black Dahlia case, one of the most sensational, unsolved murder cases in the history of American crime. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars gary cole shines as custer in t.v. 's version of "dances with wolves"
gary cole as custer, rodney a grant as crazy horse, and roseanna arquette as libby custer make this t.v.mini series shine and one of the best tellings of the life of custer ever put on film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved the movie, but how much longer for the DVD?
Despite being a made for TV flick, this is my fav Little Big Horn movie.I don't know why it takes what feels like forever to reprint VHS versions to DVD whith all the high-tech out there, but like Zulu Dawn, another of my favorite war flicks, it seems that the conversion of celluloid to digital is as slow as molasses in January (that's January in Norther Virginia, and baby, it get's cold here!).I found the acting of all the characters excellent, the storyline, wonderful, the action super, and the perspective from both sides, the red man and the white man, excellent, and the atmosphere convincing, although there is not much grit to the era in the movie.Just stop farting around and get me a DVD version and make me a very happy fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars "son of the morning star" is a true epic
this is t.v.'s take at the boxoffic and oscar power of "dances with wolves" and it is really the best thing t.v. has done next to "lonesome dove". gary cole is just perfect as the bold, ego manic, loving husband, and a commanding officer no one would want. rodney grant of "dances with wolves" is also great as crazy horse and the battle is the center piece of this fine look at the little big horn from both sides and really brings home the sadness of what followed for both sides. this belongs on dvd, i hope it is soon. but if a tape is what it takes to see this movie then buy it you will love it ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Girl meets Guy
A love story like no other. The girl and boy meet, and its magic!
5-0 out of 5 stars One can only hope...
Sometimes there are movies that are corny and pointless , this might be that movie BUT I have to say it's my GULITY PLEASURE, as much of the 80's was about the good girl with the bad guy or the poor girl with the rich guy, I love 80's films they are nostalgic, or maybe more like a fresh of breath air, no gimmicks, no special effects and might not be corny or pointless after all. So one can only hope of a DVD Release soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't this on DVD?
I love, love, love this movie. It is a wonderful star-crossed lovers story, with some terrific secondary characters (D.B. Sweeney with the pack of cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve makes me laugh every time, as does the Mapmaker's "Radcliffe-Radish" explanation). But WHY hasn't this been released on DVD?If "Tuff Turf" is on DVD, "Fire With Fire" absolutely should be too. ... A Halloween treat. Elmo visits fellow Sesame Street Muppet the Count in the latter's castle--and gets scared for a moment. But only a moment, as more friends from the television program show up, and jokes, songs, and surprises abound. Among the clever tunes: "Transylvania 1-2-3-4-5," "We Are All Monsters," and "Frazzle." 5-0 out of 5 stars Just about perfect in all respects...
Race and crime are the topics of this adaptation of Harper Lee's mega-selling novel. Set in the pre-World War II south, filmed in black and white, starring two child actors who were totally unknown and the wonderful Gregory Peck, the movie is really a tale of a single dad small-town lawyer raising a boy and a girl to do the right things and think the right thoughts. Famous for many things, the movie features a child character based on Truman Capote, and a mysterious neighbor played by Robert Duvall in his film debut. The music and cinematography are both superb. Everyone over the age of 12 should see this film at least once.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cinematic Masterwork About Human Fallibility in a World of Wearying Intolerance
Having just read Charles Shields' biography of Harper Lee, "Mockingbird", and re-read her classic (and only) novel for at least the third time, I was able recently to watch Robert Mulligan's 1962 classic film adaptation with fresh eyes, and the 2005 Legacy Series Edition DVD fortunately contains a pristine print transfer and a bundle of extras that make repeated viewings more than worthwhile. Rarely has a film so accurately captured the emotional consequences of human fallibility steadfastly within the grip of racial intolerance. Set in the Deep South of Lee's childhood in the fictional town of Maycomb in 1932, the story, adapted by writer Horton Foote, focuses on six-year old Scout, the tomboy, motherless daughter of lawyer Atticus Finch.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of DVD To Kill a Mockingbird
The Legacy Series Edition of To Kill a Mockingbird is an excellent DVD set.In addition to the classic movie (which we never tire of), the special features are very interesting, including interviews with "Scout" (Mary Badham), and "Atticus Finch".It is easy to understand why Gregory Peck is so revered and respected as an actor.

Editorial Review

William Steig's delightfully fractured fairy tale is the right stuff for this computer-animated adaptation full of verve and wit. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) evicts local fairy-tale creatures (including the now-famous Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and the Gingerbread Man), they settle in the ogre's swamp and Shrek wants answers from Farquaad. A quest of sorts starts for Shrek and his new pal, a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), where battles have to be won and a princess (Cameron Diaz) must be rescued from a dragon lair in a thrilling action sequence. The story is stronger than most animated fare, but it's the humor that makes Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two words Donkey--'Shut'....'Up'
Perhaps one of the best all around movie out there, animated or not. The chemistry between Donkey and Shrek is hysterical.
5-0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC FAMILY FILM THAT HOLDS EVERYBODYS' INTEREST
FIRST IMPRESSIONS -- If one were to imagine a happy ending where 'Belle' from 'BEAUTY & THE BEAST' became a beast in the end rather than the beast becoming a Prince, one can get an idea of what Shrek is all about.
5-0 out of 5 stars Charming fun from an unexpected hero
Whereas Pixar always focused on good, clean family fun in its pictures, Shrek came into the spotlight because Dreamworks decided to skew the jokes a little more towards the older audience, while maintaing the basic family-friendly atmosphere. It worked, and Shrek was the film that proved it didn't take Disney/Pixar to create animated box-office gold.

5-0 out of 5 stars American Pastoral: captures the spirit of McCullers' poetic study of loneliness
No, it's not the novel, which is a multi-plotted study of four characters whose lives are symmetrically developed and eventually tied together like the themes in a sonata, all of them linked by their attraction to a deaf-mute as an alternative to a profound sense of futility, despair and, above all, loneliness felt by each of the four. The ultimate irony is that the only character who affords the others a solace from their alienation is himself the most isolated and miserable character in the story, denied even an illusory companionship when his only friend dies.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Message To All Of Us
This is, as promoted, simply a nice story about a really good guy: a deaf mute who helps some people and, in the end, desperately needed someone to help him.
4-0 out of 5 stars A movie you will probally want to see agian.

5-0 out of 5 stars Collection of three Spooky Disney Shorts
This is a Disney tape with three vintage shorts on it but they are all very good and one is a certified classic and perfect for Halloween. The run time is than a 1/2 hour but I still think it's worth it, if you can still find it that is.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies from when I was little!
the first tale in this movie, pluto's judgement day, was always so realistic to me when I was little. I loved these movies and they were really good for any time of the year. Great lessons and great songs in each story. Great for any age child!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Halloween videos
This is a wonderful little video from Walt Disney Studios. It is a compilation of 3 great classic animated shorts, that fit the theme for Halloween viewing. First up is, "Pluto's Judgment Day", first seen in movie theatres on August 31, 1935. In this cartoon Mickey is mad at his dog Pluto for always chasing cats, this time a poor little kitten, and so Pluto knows he is "in the doghouse". He falls asleep and dreams he is taken to court in an underground cavern for crimes against felines, with cats for prosecutor, judge and jury.It quickly becomes a nightmare as the cats torment Pluto and sentence him. He learns his lesson to say the least. Great imagery and sight gags in this short directed by Dave Hand, the short really showcases the body language personality that an animator can build into an animated character that can't speak. Two of Walt's most famous animators worked on this, Ward Kimball and Fred Moore. There used to be a "Uncle Tom" cat character that has been edited out in recent versions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Childen's Series with 'Peanuts' Characters Created by Minnesotan Charles Schulz
One of 13 kids videos that teach kids
4-0 out of 5 stars Great cartoon! (And educational, too.)
This Is America, Charlie Brown cartoons were very innovative specials that featured the Peanuts characters in important moments in history, and gave kids (as well as parents) a fun insight on how certain histicorial characters (and their influences) came to be. This episode is about the how the Constitution was created, as well as how the legislative, executive and judicial branches affected the delegates. The special mainly revolved around Linus and Peppermint Patty, but the other usual characters were there as well (Schroeder was only in one scene, but he didn't have any line).5-0 out of 5 stars It was good.

Sir Richard Attenborough's 1982 multiple-Oscar winner (including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Ben Kingsley) is an engrossing, reverential look at the life of Mohandas K. Gandhi, who introduced the doctrine of nonviolent resistance to the colonized people of India and who ultimately gained the nation its independence. Kingsley is magnificent as Gandhi as he changes over the course of the three-hour film from an insignificant lawyer to an international leader and symbol. Strong on history (the historic division between India and Pakistan, still a huge problem today, can be seen in its formative stages here) as well as character and ideas, this is a fine film. 1-0 out of 5 stars A total waste of time and money - Its a movie full of lies
I watched this movie and found nothing but bundles of lies. He did his best not to divide India and it was all Jinnah who divided and founded Pakistan. Gandhi was totally against it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cinematic Masterpiece Overviewing the Long Complex Life of an International Hero
Lord Attenborough sought out to offer a sampling of the most well known and farthest reaching events, while interjecting events little known in Gandhi's personal life. The beginning disclosure makes clear that there was no possible way, in the time allowed, to tell all that could be told about the man. This film introduces us to the essence and primary thoughts of Mohandas K. Gandhi and explores the patience and diligence of non-violent philosophy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A movie that shows us there is hope for humanity
We are not perfect, but if we decide to do better than what has been the norm for humanity, we can. Gandhi chose to be a better man than he was and through his will power, guided but not blinded by his convictions, he embarked on a life that led him to challenge accepted notions on many aspects of our lives. He was creative, asking questions others did not ask and inventing answers others did not offer, with respect to problems we still face. And then he lived by what he discovered. He did not let his fears control him, but rather experimented with his own life to try out those answers. He sought the "truth" and tried to live by it. Above all, he tried to be honest with himself and with others. He tried not to inflict suffering, while also not allowing it to be accepted.

Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. Read more

I disagree with the characterization of most of the reviews here.I didn't see the father as a heartless man, but as a father trying to protect his overly dull and reclusive daughter from a fortune hunter. At first meeting, he seems very happy that his daughter, Catherine, has found a suitor and welcomes him cordially, but after talking to him he discovers that he is a selfish fortune hunter, a mercenary, who cares only for himself, and nothing for his daughter or anyone else, even his own aunt who has several children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Christmas Movie! I Wish It Was On DVD!
I love Christmas movies and romance movies and this Christmas movie/romance story is very good and is sweet without being syrupy sweet and I think Roma Downey (Touched By An Angel) and Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) were both very good and so was Hector Elizondo (Chicago Hope), and the little girl who played Roma Downey's daughter. This movie is about a wealthy man played by Eric McCormack who owns a huge company and he wants to impress an important potential client who he thinks is old fashioned and very family orientated and would not like the fact that he plays the field with many different women and has not settled down so when his business partner lies to the client and says that he is married and has a kid he is forced to go along with it and pays a woman who works in his factory to pretend that they are married and that her daughter is his daughter and she having a deadbeat ex-husband and having to support her daughter needs the money. This is a sweet Christmas movie and I highly recommend it. They really should put this movie on DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Borrowed Hearts will definitly win your heart!
This is definitly a feel good movie that is good to watch with the whole family. Roma Downey out does herself! It is a movie where you can laugh and cry. So get the family together and watch Borrowed Hearts because it will definitly win your heart!
4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Fluff
I have to admit that, despite the predictable storyline, I love this movie. The actors do a wonderful job with it.Some parts are a bit cheesy (hence the four stars, not five) but it's a great feel-good movie if you don't want anything too depressing or deep, this is a great pick.Oh, and you can get the DVD for it (took me forever to find) at familytv.com - though I must point out that it is an EDITED version, since some short scenes are cut. That pissed me off royally. ... This sweet, heartwarming 1973 offering from the Peanuts gang (and Charles Schultz) once again shows Charlie Brown in a pickle, as his erstwhile friends impose upon the hapless would-be-host to provide a memorable and traditional Thanksgiving feast. And as much as Charlie Brown would rather forget the whole thing, he just can't help but try for fear of being labeled a failure. Ultimately it's up to Snoopy and Woodstock to save Charlie from certain embarrassment, and it falls to Linus to impart to all assembled the true meaning of Thanksgiving. This very special Emmy Award-winning cartoon features the usual sweet unassuming humor that only the Peanuts can provide, along with the melodic Vince Guaraldi score, and is one of those childhood classics meant to be enjoyed again and again. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Special!!
Not quite as good as the Christmas and Halloween Specials, but still one of our favorites. The "Mayflower Voyage" bonus on the DVD is wonderful!!It is an historically accurate version of the Mayflower voyage that appeals to children because it retains the charm of the Peanuts characters without being too "cutesy."My second grade twins studied the pilgrims this year and I offered to share our DVD with their teachers. They had never heard of it before but they absolutetly loved it because it fit right into what the children were learning in the classroom. The Mayflower Voyage ended up being shown in virturally all of the primary grade classrooms in November.I am buying them their own copy to use next year!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Fun!!
I have to say that this is a Thanksgiving tradition where we watch this on TV and I just bought the DVD and we can watch it on our own time during the thanksgiving season.I love it when snoopy is cooking the thanksgiving dinner and get into a fight with the law chair. The bonus feature "The Mayflower Voyage" is educational but boring.I still give it 5 stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Peppermint Patty needs a smack in the mouth.
Who the heck does she think she is? First she invites herself over to Charlie Brown's house for Thanksgiving, then she invites her girlfriend and Franklin too! What's up with that? Of course Chuck has no backbone and agrees to everything even though all he can make is popcorn and toast. Well thank God Snoopy comes to the rescue. Sure he gets in a fight with a lawn chair, but he gets the place set up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lets Get together!!
Annie and Haley are identical twins. Only they don't know it. They both meet at a summer camp and at first they do not get along. Then they are forced top live together and that is when they find out that they are twins.
5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the original
A charming film score coupled with a refreshing re-write of the timeless story turn this one into a classic in its own right.Lindsay Lohan outshines Hayley Mills in the role(s) of the twins, which puts this one a notch above the 1961 version.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable!
This was the first movie I had seen with Lindsay Lohan and her performance has made me quite a fan of hers.Throw in an absolutely charming performance from Dennis Quaid, an ideal mom played by the lovely and talented Natasha Richardson, and a smart and warm housekeeper played by...er, I forget..and you'll see why this film gets so many rave reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Abs of Steel 2 - AWESOME!
After having five children and being 46 years old, there was no way I was going to have good abs.I was wrong. This tape has done what nothing else has done in the past 17 years!I have rock hard, washboard abs, and no one would believe that I have ever had five kids!Granted I do do both workouts EVERY DAY; one in the morning, the other at night, and I am on a high protein diet, but this tape WORKS.I also sometimes do Tami Lee's first Abs of Steel, just for variety.Another good one!

5-0 out of 5 stars More intense than the first one
Abs of Steel 2 uses most of the same exercises from Abs of Steel 1, but increases the reps, speed, and duration of them. She also adds modified push ups to the routines. A definite all-around workout for the abs. Great for at-home solo training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamilee gives you killer abs fast
I've had video for close to 10 years now, and it's still a regular part of my exercise rotation - because it works! The two 15-minute programs are advanced and challenging - the first focuses on the front part of the abdominals and the second focuses more on the obliques. Both alternate abdominals and push-ups. Most of the exercises are done with the legs and arms off the floor so you can't cheat. Tamilee is always smiling and looks like she's having a great time doing the workout. She has a master's degree and teaches you all the proper names for the muscles as you do the workout. So you get smarter as well as stronger! ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Director Robert Zemeckis, and Best Actor Tom Hanks, this unlikely story of a slow-witted but good-hearted man somehow at the center of the pivotal events of the 20th century is a funny and heartwarming epic. Hanks plays the title character, a shy Southern boy in love with his childhood best friend (Robin Wright) who finds that his ability to run fast takes him places. As an All-Star football player he meets John F. Kennedy; as a soldier in Vietnam he's a war hero; and as a world champion Ping-Pong player he's hailed by Richard Nixon. Becoming a successful shrimp-boat captain, he still yearns for the love of his life, who takes a quite different and much sadder path in life. The visual effects incorporating Hanks into existing newsreel footage is both funny and impressive, but the heart of the film lies in its sweet love story and in the triumphant performance of Hanks as an unassuming soul who savors the most from his life and times. 2-0 out of 5 stars Sorry Tom......
I'm giving this movie two stars because of the supporting actors, and, the book from which the movie is taken.I believe those are what the rest of the reviews are truely applauding without realizing it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Deja Vu All Over Again
The fuss over Forrest Gump still amazes me. This movie basically rips off better movies in almost every scene. Still somehow it managed to win Best Picture over Pulp Fiction And The Shawshank Redemption in 1994. Out of all of the movies that were released 1n 94 this one wouldnt even make my top 20. Nobodys Fool, Quiz Show, The Lion King, and the list goes on. The only reason that I would give it props is for(at the time) was the special effects, which now are dated. After Gump Zemekis directed a episode of Tales From The Crypt where he used the same Technology and was easiest the worst episode of that year. I used to be a HUGE Zemekis fan. Used Cars, Romancing the Stone, Back to the Furture movies and Death Becomes Her were I thought were strong movies. But arounf Back to the Future 2I thought Zemekis started to rely to much on special effects and it shows on this film. To the objective viewer re-watch this film and think about every scene and try to remember where you have seen that scene before. I guarantee you after you do that you will see this movie in a totally different light.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "It's A Wonderful Life" of the 60's generation
Forrest Gump is an absolutely brilliant film that captures the 60's and the early 70's in the same way that Frank Capra's wonderful film did for the WWII generation.
