5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Aid to Spiritual Enlightenment!
In the early 1970s I began having spontaneous, conscious "out-of-body" experiences. As they progressed, I struggled to learn how to induce the experiences ... as well as being able to exercise some control over them.I read every book on "out-of-body' experiences that I could get my hands on. Then came the film "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"! I was utterely captivated!I identified with the character of Jonathan from the begining of the story to end. I related his personal struggles to my own ... his love of "flight" and his determination to prove that there is more to life than what "meets the eye".
5-0 out of 5 stars 30+ years later, I'm still moved by it
It haunted me as a child of nine years when my mother took me to see it on its original theatrical release. It inspires me today as an adult. Why is this not out on DVD?!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grew up loving it
Until this afternoon, I did not realize just how old this wonderful movie is.Not that it matters that it's older than I am.I grew up watching this and was wondering if it would be possible to replace that old tape if there ever were reason. This film and the soundtrack LP have inspired me a great many times over the years.I will echo some others here in saying that if you watch this film the same as you would watch most feature films today, you'll miss out.You have to be able to just sit back and relax with it.Pay attention to what's going on, and what Johnathan is actually experiencing. If I could walk into a brick and mortar store and see this video on the shelf in any format, I'd probably go into debt buying 5 copies.I love this hard to find film.Just to make sure I never have to worry about losing it forever. ... There are two types of Schoolhouse Rock fans. Type A: those who--inspired in the '70s and '80s by "Conjunction Junction" and "Interjections!"--went on to become grammar gurus, copyeditors, and computational linguists. And type B: those who--less inspired by grammar than by catchy refrains--can still sing lines that today sound less than P.C.: Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars School House Rocks!
At my school we perform plays and School House Rock was one of them. This year was the year we performed it and it was a success. The play even helped me. Cause some of the things they said i didnt know. This Review will help you with choosing the best school related movie to help your child with school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Now all I need is a video of "Time for Timer!"
When my son was born, and only my singing seemed to comfort him, (my singing had never comforted anyone before...) I found myself singing "The Preamble" and "Conjunction Junction." I bought all four Schoolhouse Rock videos shortly afterwards.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ALL AGES!
As a kid, I loved the Schoolhouse Rock series and still remember the Grammar Rock songs. As a mom, I came across Schoolhouse Rock again by chance and thought I'd get the tapes for my kids who are now 2 and (nearly) 5 to enjoy when they're older.Amazingly, not only my Kindergartener but also my 2 year old prefer this tape to just about anything else right now - including the Wiggles and Blues Clues!I thought I'd bought these for the future, but they absolutely love the music and the animation and my 2-year old goes around singing snatches of "Interjections" and "Lolly Lolly Lolly get your Adverbs Here".As for my Kindergarten-age son, he has grown to enjoy it on a whole new level now that he is reading and beginning to learn grammar and punctuation concepts.Parents, it's never too soon to invest in this gem!I'd much rather have them watching this than the Rugrats or something... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I never understand the filmstudios politics!
In the early Nineties I had been lucky to watch a fair amount of American movies in a theatre, located in barracks in Germany. Me -as a German- and friends of mine had luck and some nice Americans around who allowed me to enter the theatre together with them. This has not been the usual politics in these years, but well, for me it has been great fun. i had been able to watch movies uncut, uncensored and not dubbed with German language, and most of the times a lot earlier than compared to German theatres. And one of the films I miss since these days is Stone Cold.

3-0 out of 5 stars Barnabas Collins Has Risen

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!
I used to watch the soap opera, then I saw this film.I loved them both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Darker than "Dark"
"House of Dark Shadows" is one of my all-time favorite horror movies, and I've always been a fan of the TV series. The movie, though, is fairly gory and much darker than the series had ever been. It was made 35 years ago, but it still scares me when I watch it!Some of the best scenes include Willie Loomis releasing Barnabas from his coffin, and the film's climax involving Barnabas, Maggie Evans, Jeff Clark and Willie.

The wonderful Leslie Caron stars in this Oscar-winning musical fable with a touch of the bizarre. Caron plays Lili, a recently orphaned waif hopelessly in love with a carnival magician. Mel Ferrer plays Paul, a gruff puppeteer who can express his softer side only through his puppets. Sound weird? It is. Caron's performance is lovely. She is, as always, a graceful dancer, but she is also able to pull off the much more difficult task of making Lili pure and innocent without being icky--shetalks to Paul's puppets with complete conviction. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I could tell you all about this wonderful movie, but other reviewers have done such a great job.Just let me add one tidbit--the end contains what is probably the most hilarious screen kiss in history (although I'm sure it was meant to seem passionate).

5-0 out of 5 stars Give That Girl A Contract
How hard can it be to find a film with elements of homelessness, unemployment, despair, suicidal thoughts, thievery, feigned affection, disability and self-pity? Not very hard you say. But in a G-rated film barely eighty minutes long?
5-0 out of 5 stars Career High for Caron, Ferrer, and -- Zsa Zsa
Charles Walters is another, like George Sidney, another incredibly talented director whose 1950s work has been for too long overshadowed by his MGM competitors Cukor, Donen and Minnelli.Walters isn't nearly as flashy as these guys, but where it counts, he's got it all, and as a choreographer, he can design dance films in a way that eluded these other non-dancers.LILI isn't a musical per se, though years later it inspired the memorable Bob Merrill score for CARNIVAL, but it has more than enough music to qualify it as the kind of picture you leave the theater whistling the tunes from. And in Leslie Caron they found the right blend of wistfulness and innocence; even her mouth looks bruised, but her eyes light up whenever she sees her darling puppets.

3-0 out of 5 stars Edited =(
I loved this film as a child, treasuring the "taped from the TV" version well into my twenties. When I finally purchased the video, I was disappointed to realize that the VHS is edited, eliminating some transitional dialogue and two songs ("jail break" and the one where Jack and Mary are singing in jail). It is still a charming story that will be passed along for generations to come, but I will be sure to hold on to the "tv version" that has every aspect of the film.It would be terrific if ORION released a DVD version of this film with all of the uncut scenes in it!

5-0 out of 5 stars 6th Grade Holiday Treat
I saw this The day of when we got out for Christmas break. I loved it.They edited the song about the breakout,on ABC Family .when I see Lisa,The Toymaker and Georgie Pogie tied to those chairs,I have an urge to change into a superheroine with my partner in crimefighting,3 sidekicks and 2 assistants and saying"Heel,Heel" to those things. snap our fingers and viola, they are free.I would love to have the DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Babes in Toyland Ate My Soul
Assuming this craptacular film didn't eat my soul, I would gladly sell it to whatever evil deity could make me forget the twelve hours (running time will vary in direct correlation with your I.Q.) I wasted watching this nonsensical romp through my worst nightmare.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT WORKOUT!
I've seen the Pilates infomercials for a while now, but have been intimidated by the seemingly impossible movements. When I found this inexpensive "For Dummies" DVD, I decided to give it a try. WHAT A WORKOUT! I consider myself to be in moderately good shape, and this workout can definitely be felt! Within the first couple of days I IMMEDIATELY noticed a change in my posture, and a good burn in my abs, hips and thighs. I HIGHLY recommend this as both a great workout and a wonderful intro to Pilates.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Fast
I found it much too fast for me, the out of shape beginner. some of the moves I just could not do without hurting myself, such as the rollup from a supine position.Even with legs bentmy abs were not strong enough to bring me all the way up.

2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult!
Am I the only one who found the basic workout difficult? The pace was too quick for me to get the right technique in the poses and even though I have done this workout several times now, my back almost always is very painful for at least 24 hours afterward. I have found that, apart from a few exercises, the intermediate workout is easier. ... Read more

The legendary distance runner Steve Prefontaine blazed across tracks and into America's consciousness before meeting a tragic death in an auto accident at the age of 24.In this tribute to "Pre," narrated by writer Ken Kesey, a number of his contemporaries speak movingly of him as an athlete and a person. After setting high school running records in his native Oregon, Prefontaine went on to the University of Oregon, where as a freshman he began to dominate the American track scene and appeared on the cover of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This was my favorite of the (I believe?) three Prefontaine movies out there. "Without Limits" and "Prefontaine" are both good Hollywood/drame type movies, and while all three stay true to Pre's story, "Fire on the Track" is much more moving. It tells the story documentary-style with real footage and interviews with those who knew Pre best, tied together with strong narration and driven ultimately by the raw story of Prefontaine. If you're a runner and looking for motivation, or a runner/non-runner looking to learn about one of the greatest American athletes of all time, look no further than to "Fire on the Track."

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational

In England, there is a castle that belonged to the Canterville family, a family known for their cowardice. During the 1600s, one such member Sir Simon of Canterville (Charles Laughton) fled from a duel to defend his brother's honor. His father was so ashamed with his son, that he walled him up to die in the castle. Since then, he was cursed to roam about a night until a member of the family performed a brave act in his honor.

Editorial Review

Paul Newman directed this poetic, sunlight- and memory-drenched film version of Tennessee Williams's classic memory play. The casting is surprisingly adept, considering that several of the performers would seem to be too old for their roles. John Malkovich plays Williams's stand-in, Tom Wingfield, a dreamer who lives with his domineering mother Amanda (a luminous Joanne Woodward) and his fragile, limping sister Laura (Karen Allen). Mom wants nothing more than to marry off shy-flower Laura and keeps bugging Tom to bring home a guy. So he corrals coworker James Naughton for an evening--and Amanda treats it as though Naughton's signed up for the nuptial short-course. Woodward is alternately touching and harridan-like as this smothering mother who means well, while Malkovich is perfect as the would-be writer longing to break free. And Allen brings surprising strength to the role of Laura. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB!!! When will it be available on DVD?
This is the best most intelligent version of St. Tennessee's GLASS MENAGERIE I've ever seen! There is great humor and tenderness in this version, alonside the heartbreak. The direction by Paul Newman is subtle and insightful, the artful cinematography by the great Michael Ballhaus gives every scene layers and layers of meaning, and the acting is astounding.John Malkovich's Tom is achingly brilliant (the semi-literate lump Christian Slater playing Tom/Tennessee on Broadway was absurd) and bursting with resentment and anger and creative potential; Joanne Woodward perfectly inhabits mother Amanda's well-meaning but at times smothering narcissistic love and sing-song nagging and melancholic nostalgia; and then the revelation is Karen Allen (who knew?) whose wounded resigned Laura cannot achieve her mother's ambitions or her brother's cultural curiousity, but who compassionately loves these two human volcanos despite everything.
5-0 out of 5 stars Deeply moving---unquestionably the best film version.
The depth of feeling manifested in the acting on display here easily trumps both the (wildly miscast)Gertrude Lawrence and the (vastly overrated) Katherine Hepburn versions of this celebrated play.

Yes!! "Fist Pump", no more crappy movies, if only he had stopped making them after Return of the Jedi.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi look like Jesus Christ?
Picking up 10 years later, Anakin Skywalker is no longer an adorable if stoic little kid but now a tall, gangly, jerky young man (Hayden Christensen) with a tendency to whine and bitch about stuff for no apparent reason (takes things way too personally he does). Well, him and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) are assigned to protect former queen turned senator Padme (Natalie Portman) after ten years apart from an assassin. This job eventually leads to Obi-Wan being separated from Anakin while he investigates the assassin who happens to be involved with a cloning conspiracy and this later leads him to a renegade Jedi master played by Christopher Lee. Guess what? Anakin still has the hots for Padme and whilst Obi-Wan is away Anakin would like nothing better than to strip her naked and get her in the sack. The future Darth Vader also has a nightmare about his mom's death back on Tatioone and he FINALLY goes to rescue her but by the time he gets there she's already dead so he goes and kills the cannibal Sand People who killed her.

Editorial Review

The Salem witch hunts are given a new and nasty perspective when a vengeful teenage girl uses superstition and repression to her advantage, creating a killing machine that becomes a force unto itself. Pulsating with seductive energy, this provocative drama is as visually arresting as it is intellectually engrossing. Arthur Miller based his classic 1953 play on the actual Salem witch trials of 1692, creating what has since become a durable fixture of school drama courses. It may look like a historical drama, but Miller also meant the work as a parable for the misery created by the McCarthy anti-Communist hearings of the 1950s. This searing version of his drama delves into matters of conscience with concise accuracy and emotional honesty. Three passionate cheers for Miller, director Nicholas Hytner, and costars Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent film of a great play
If you can believe it, the first play I was ever in was The Crucible, when I had just finished sixth grade. We had a rather progressive director for the YMCA summer drama workshop. Her philosophy was that this was not theatre for children, but theatre by children and we did the last couple of scenes of this great play.I got to play Judge Danforth and my little brother was the Reverend Mr. Hale.I doubt any of our cast fully understood the play's ramifications then, but some of us understood enough to learn more, to read the entire play, and to try out for more plays when the chance came.
5-0 out of 5 stars Disturbing and well made
I'm not sure why I ordered this movie, given that usually I don't like too much suspence, but maybe the historical aspect of it drew me. In any event, I'm happy I've ordered it--it is very well made, the acting is unnervingly convincing, and the story makes one be VERY grateful for not living in that village at that time! The analogy to present time abuse of power, mass histerias and tendency for 'witch hunting' (though no longer in the literal sense, still very much in other finger-pointing-to-save-one's-own-face and terrorizing others to join or else...as well as pompous know-it-alls) is eerie. Ideas and locations change, but the human flock-factor seems to be an ever present enemy...
4-0 out of 5 stars Not the definitive version, but ultimately moving and powerful
The Crucible is considerably simplified from the play. Despite Arthur Miller handling the adaptation himself, so much of the historical detail and motivation for the witchhunts is dropped to get the narrative moving faster that at the end of the day the whole thing seems to have been reduced to a simple case of a woman spurned and a bad case of mass hysteria. Some awkward performances in the first half don't help either - Bruce Davison is shrilly ineffective, Daniel Day Lewis still seems to be doing Hawkeye, Joan Allen does her serious face again and the jury's still out on whether Winona Ryder is giving a convincing performance as an unconvincing liar or and unconvincing performance as a convincing liar. Yet the strength of the material shines through and suddenly, by the halfway point, you suddenly realise that you are completely gripped by it and that most of the performances have improved immeasurably once Paul Scofield has arrived to up the ante. Indeed, by the end the piece is genuinely tragic and moving (that said, I still maintain that the real hero of the piece is not John Proctor but Pastor Hale - the only character to realise his terrible error and to have the courage to publicly try to remedy it, however hopelessly). Excellent supporting performances from Karron Graves and, surprisingly, George Gaynes, although the houses seem a little too large for Puritan stock. Definitely a film of two halves, but worth seeing for the sheer power of the latter half.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Know Why It Worked But It Worked
We started trying potty train my son when he turned two and things moved along slowly. After we got this video it was like we hit a switch. All of a sudden my son would run off to the bathroom anouncing his intent as he went.It is silly and simple, but he enjoyed watching it and obviously connected with the message.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring, Short and too graphic
First of all this video is too short, it shows the same thing over and over and it gets old really fast.Neither me or my son can stand to watch it more than a couple of times. The song is kind of catchy, but it gets old fast too.The potty does look different from any kinds I have seen as well.On another note, it shows it in his diaper when he has gone potty, I mean isn't that a little much?I think its just plain gross and my son probably didn't evenknow what it was supposed to be anyways.I know one of the reviewers said the kids looked too young but some of them looked too old too.I swear one of the kids in it looks like hes four.I wouldn't waste your money on this video, the repetetive nature of it bores the child too quickly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good video for starters
My son loves this video and watches it excessively. It does present the partsthe body involved in pottying, but how can you expect your kids to go if they don't understand how and why they go. It's a cartoon so it's not like its realistically graphic. The potty shown in the video is the older bowl style so you child might be confused by the newer models, but kids are smart. I'd say this would be rare. I'm only mentioning it as a warning, so you're prepared to have to hunt down a similar style potty. (The Baby Bjorn potty is the closest I found and my son associated the 2 right away by acting out part of the video when he saw the potty.) My only complaint really is that it doesn't detail what goes into learning how to use the potty. It just says "he sat and sat but nothing came out. Later he made poopoo and weewee but not exactly in the potty." (shows an accident on the floor) Then the mommy keeps changing a diaper and later he sat on the potty and was able to go in the potty. It's probably all kids need to know, but I was a little disappointed that it didn't really present all the practice and work that must be done before most kids go in the potty. Of course, this way it leaves it open for the different training methods. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie, excellent music
This is a quiet little movie, with some real delights within. My guys love the gaunty music, the ideas of turning into animals, and the bright colors. Its a great little classic, perfect for those rainy days when you can't go to the park! ... Read more

Editorial Review

An entire generation of baby boomers grew up with this stagy but magical production, which originated on Broadway but was broadcast several times on TV. They may not know Mary Martin or Cyril Ritchard--two staples of the commercial theater in their time--for any other reason, but they'll alwa
