5-0 out of 5 stars For Your Princess
It's so wonderful to live in a time when Disney's strange behavior of taking their classics off the market can be circumvented by great Internet marketers like Amazon. I was able to buy this 5 Star Disney Princess classic recently for my young princess through one of Amazon's third-party sellers. And without that opportunity, my little princess may have outgrown Snow White by the time Disney released it again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sleeping Beauty Awakens!
This DVD changed my opinion of Disney's Sleeping Beauty.Since the story has been summarized elsewhere, my review will focus mainly on the DVD itself.I had never been much of a fan previously and viewed this as a sort of Snow White and Cinderella also-ran, although I did love the gorgeous, sweeping adaption of Tchaikovsky's ballet, with "I wonder" and especially "Once Upon a Dream" being among Disney's finest and most transportative musical pieces. The difference between this and prior releases of Sleeping Beauty (indeed, of many Disney movies) is that the digital restoration truly enhances the film possibly beyond what, as one reviewer put it, may actually have been experienced by the original theatrical audience.
5-0 out of 5 stars This movie is excellent.
One thing I most love about this movie, is the music. Slepping Beauty has songs from the ballet. I watch this movie whenever I can. It has brilliant animation, brilliant songs and brilliant characters, especially princess Aurora, my favourite Disney Princess. I highly recommand this movie. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Groundbreaking on several counts, not the least of which was aninnovative use of animation and stereophonic sound, this ambitiousDisney feature has lost nothing to time since its release in 1940.Classical music was interpreted by Disney animators, resulting insurreal fantasy and playful escapism. Leopold Stokowski and thePhiladelphia Orchestra provided the music for eight segments by thecomposers Tchaikovsky, Moussorgsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Ponchielli,Bach, Dukas, and Schubert. Not all the sequences were created equally, but a few are simply glorious, such as "Night on Bald Mountain," "TheSorcerer's Apprentice," and "The Nutcracker Suite." The animationranges from subtly delicate to fiercely bold. The screen bursts withcolor and action as creatures transmute and convention is thrust aside. The painstaking detail and saturated hues are unique to this film, unmatched even by more advanced technology. 5-0 out of 5 stars ARTISTRY IN ANIMATION, MUSIC &THE COMPUTER ALL PUT TO FANTASTIC EFFECT
IN A NUTSHELL: LET FANTASIA SPEAK FOR ITSELF & IT SPEAKS MAGICALLY
5-0 out of 5 stars Not original but still worth having
Yes it is true that Fantasia has been edited, but that is because Disney had to edit something that by today's standards would be socially unacceptable. for the time the movie was made (1942) it would be a different situation. I agree with their decision to edit those parts out, although you can find the scenes on the internet, and they are interesting to watch, but I can agree that they were edited for good reason. and it is true, just because a movie is edited doesn't mean that those parts weren't there, but if you want to own Fantasia on DVD, then this is worth buying. the only difference from the VHS version to note is, the narration has been re-recorded, and though it is not the original narration, it is still good I only noted 1 or 2 differences in the narration from the original. this is the best (socially acceptable) copy of Fantasia you will ever find, those of you who are looking for the original version (ie 1942) you are out of luck, every re-release of this movie since the 1970's has been edited, and unless you want celluloid film you'll just have to get this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The all-time classic!
Fantasia is the all-time classic animated movie. Where to begin with this one? The animation is incredible, with stunning artwork, effects, and a huge palet of colors. The storytelling is top-notch, with excellent pacing and story development. Using classical music as a storytelling tool is A LOT harder than you may think, and the Disney animators pulled it off brilliantly. Each segment of Fantasia is its own self-contained movie, and each one is a winner. Even the weakest segment (the first one) is still an outstanding example of innovation (jawdropping for the 1940's). Other than the first segment, all stand up perfectly to repeated viewings. Fantasia is an AMAZING movie, which will entertain adults as much as children (a rarity). It is fitting in an ironic way, then, that Fantasia was also Disney's biggest flop when it was released in 1940. Oftentimes truly outstanding works take many years to be be recognized as the masterpieces they are (Wizard Of Oz, Its A Wonderful Life).

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Animated Films of All Time
If film makers could figure out how to make a film like "Bambi" every time, the art of film making would be just that; an art."Bambi" is a tale that is for children. However, that tale contains every element present in the life of a typical child: friendship, love, parental protection, loss, fear of the unknown, and, of course, growing up.I am still astonished at how a film that clocks in at 69 minutes can capture the essence of life.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever!
They worked very hard on bambi. Its not like the new movies. The animators work hard to make it good.Efforts the key.And the dvd has great bonus features. And the movie itself is way better on dvd.The sound is 5.3.The best sond.Especially when you hae a sterio. They remastered it great. They didnt just rush and put it on.So you would love this movie.Especially on platinum edition. So I highly reccomend Bambi the best Disney film ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indian Love Call Classic
If ever a film deserved the label "classic romance," Rose Marie is the one.It starts out kinda slow, but gradually builds to a heartwrenching climax. Marie de Flor (Jeanette MacDonald) is an opera star who learns her brother, John Flower (James Stewart) has escaped from prison, allegedly killing a Canadian Royal Mounted Police in the process, and is in hiding.De Flor hires an Indian guide to take her tohim.Along the way into the Canadian wilderness, she meets up with Sgt. Bruce (Nelson Eddy),the Mounty tracking down her brother. She starts to give him a false name, "Rose . . ." but he recognizes her as a star, and assumes her full name is Rose Marie de Flor.Sgt. Bruce is immediately attracted to de Flor, but before long he guesses her relationship Flower, his prey. It's one of the all time classic dilemmatic situations as love develops between the two, who are each using the other to their own, opposite ends. De Flor depends on Bruceto survive the rugged trek through the wilderness, not knowing how much he knows; he expects her to lead him to her brother, while pretending to be along to protect her.I don't think it's ever been done more effectively, with "Indian Love Call" adding a haunting effect all the while. The cast also includes Reginald Owen, Alan Mowbray, Una O'Connor, and David Niven in an early, one scene, bit part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant and haunting...
There is poignancy at the heart of this movie. It's a love story and love comes at a high price.Rose Marie, like many Eddy-MacDonald films, is filled with love and loss, yearning and sacrifice. The final scene of Rose Marie demonstrates these characteristics perhaps better than any of their other movies. This is a fine film, but it is dated and should be viewed in the context of its time. There are laughs, romance, bittersweet moments and beautiful, heart-felt singing. The MacDonald-Eddy chemistry is magical. This is a movie that should not be overlooked or forgotten. It will stay with you after you've seen it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment at its best
Rose Marie has it all. Wonderful music, a great story. Good clean entertainment. As for acting, this is Jeanette's and Nelson's best. It is also the first movie Jimmy Stewart was in.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Imitation of Laff
A lot of people love this movie and so do I--but probably not for the same reason. Not for nothing was this the last gasp of the Ross Hunter tearjerkers in the "Imitation of Life"/"Back Street" mode. By the mid-Sixties, this type of hokum was far more comic than melodramatic--just look at the ridiculous casting, which includes a 40-something Lana Turner (who'd just played Sandra Dee's mother/stepmother in her last few pictures) as a young bride. . . having her first child! Surrounding her with inappropriate actors like bland John Forstyhe (as her middle-aged ambitious "young" husband) and veteran Constance Bennett (who somehow looks more like Lana's younger sister than her mother-in-law) didn't help realism. Cheesy production values and anacronisms (all the women are dressed in the height of Sixties middlebrow fashions--in scenes taking place thirty years earlier!) just add to the fun. A real howl, especially when an Oscar-hungry Turner goes to pot in the final reels. You'll cry alright--with laughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greats!
If you're looking for a rainy afternoon or late night tearjerker, bursting at the seams with impeccable style, glamour and delicious disaster, this is your film. Only Lana Turner can deliver such wistful heartbreak in the finest gowns and jewels one instant, and next be the tragic victim of misfortune, suffering as only those who fall from on high can know.To call it melodrama would be an insult, this is classic cinema, with Hollywood royalty.

I've never read the book but we love the movie. I've always wanted to read the book but never found time, not much of a reader. I still intend to read it someday but until then this really is an enjoyable movie. I find unrealistic bloopers in movies about how people would really act in any give situation and I have always felt comfortable with the realisticness of this movie. Love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Step It Up With Cher....Keli Roberts Instructs...
There are 77 reviews here already for "Cherfitness: A New Attitude" and the average rating is 5 stars. That is about right, and I'd like to add my 5 star rating as well. But I would say this is not for those who are just getting into workouts, or have been out of it for a while. For those I would suggest Jane Fonda's startup program for very beginners or "The Fix - A Dance workout" for coming back after being away for a while, which has 3 programs, to help you burn calories and firm up. However, if you have been doing aerobics for a while and want to step up the intensity of your work out, you will love the step work out here. You will burn more calories then with regular floor aerobics, and the instructor is one of the best. Keli Roberts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astonishing tale
This superb work of film art will bring you to tears though presented almost as a documentary. As a man with no need of earthly "beliefs" and a skeptic of most of such stories, I still have an open mind to any idea. This movie reeks of honesty. No doubt because of excellent performances, especially of Ellen Burstyn who can't be more believable, and Sam Shepard who reflects what happens when people can't see outside their framed beliefs.Powerful drama.

With tremendous applause and a standing ovation at the 1994 Eurovision's 7 minute intermission; Michael Flatley, Jean Butler, and an Irish troupe of dancers tapped their way into the record books. It was all that was talked about that night long ago. "Riverdance" was born soon after.

Winner of the Academy Award for best picture of 1989, this gracefully moving drama, adapted from the hit play by Alfred Uhry, chronicles the 25- year friendship between a stubborn, aging Southern widow (Jessica Tandy) and her loyal chauffeur (Morgan Freeman). At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of a chauffeur, but Hoke is quiet, wise, and tolerant, and as the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration. Tandy deservedly won the Oscar for her sassy and sensitive performance, and Freeman earned an Oscar nomination for bringing quiet depth and integrity to his memorable role. 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm loving Miss Daisy
My wife raved about this movie for months before I actually sat down and watched it, and after the credits began to roll I think I enjoyed it more than she did. What I expected to bore me to tears in actuality kept me well entertained for its entire duration. The story of an elderly stubborn southern woman named Daisy and her chauffeur Hoke rose from ashes of mediocrity and became a brilliantly scripted and acted film about learning to accept people for who they are on the inside, not on the outside.Jessica Tandy is brilliant as Daisy. When she crashes her car her son Boolie (Aykroyd) makes it known she can no longer drive and hires a chauffeur for her. That chauffeur is quite and well mannered Hoke (Freeman), a black man who wins over Daisy's heart, and ours too, with his mild manner and caring concern for his employer. The chemistry between the two of them is so spot on it makes the entire film a delight.I'm not surprised it won for best picture, I'm delighted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Driving Miss Daisy
I'm 15 years behind most of you, but I've seen it now. It's wonderful. Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. This film covers 15 or 20 years in the life of Miss Daisy, beginning with her wrecking the car. Her son hires a chauffeur against her wishes. Etc. Dan Ackroyd shows us that he can act. After GHOSTBUSTERS and BLUES BROTHERS I had my doubts.

Disney's first animated feature in CinemaScope is now available in widescreen presentations on video, and it is definitely good to get the whole picture. One of the studio's most original and charming movies, the 1955 film tells the story of a rakish, street-smart dog named Tramp, who helps an aristocratic pooch named Lady out of some trouble and then commences a romance with her. Sweet, funny scenes abound, and the combination of innocence and sophistication would have done well in a live-action picture. Peggy Lee cowrote the songs and provides the voice of the Siamese cats in one of the film's best-known musical sequences. This newly restored version spruces up both sonics and visuals, and a letterbox version is available. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gives a good understanding of the tragedy and the events leading up to it.
The Jonestown tragedy had previously been made into the exploitation film "Guyana - Crime of the Century". However, this TV production, with a running time of about three hours gives a betterunderstanding of how it could happen. The story starts when Jim Jones is a child, being indoctrinated by a Christian fundamentalist friend. He starts the integrated People's Temple Church after discovering how racist the established churches in San Francisco are. He really wants to do something good for the community and he does, but power corrupts and the church turns into more of a money making cult and Jones turns into a cruel leader. His drug use and paranoia doesn't make things better. After moving to Guyana, Jones has complete control over his folloers, and with him as a leader, Jonestown is headed for destruction.

2-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but highly inaccurate
Powers Boothe, while obviously talented and provided a strong character, he did not capture the real Jim Jones in any sense. This movie is so full of inaccuracies that it is not worth viewing to obtain any true information regarding the Peoples Temple movement. I would recommend some of the documentaries such as Purple Haze or the A & E Biography of Jim Jones-Journey into Madness.I found this motion picture misleading and almost total fiction as I know many, many family members and survivors of Peoples Temple and have written/researched Peoples Temple extensively. ... The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a modelfor each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches andexercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications forthe second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors foreasy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have aboutthe safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage ofpregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants takeviewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairsfor support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. Shewinds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--thetraditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the thirdon her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations,Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through herentire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. Read more

I used this DVD throughout all of my pregnancy and it was wonderful. It reall taught me to relax and breath. It also helped me stretch my body in ways that were healthy for me and my baby. I had a wonderful birth, naturally and without pain. I feel this DVD was responsible for much of my peaceful birthing experience.

I ordered this product when I was in the middle of my second trimester. I did yoga before my pregnancy but only occassionally. So, I'm not a big practitioner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Om in the Womb
Shiva Rea has an amazing ability to help you find peace and calm during this joyous and sometimes emotionally unstable time. The poses are gentle and flowing and offer a great way to maintain strength and flexibility throughout all three trimesters. I genuinely feel that I am doing something healthy and positive for the baby and me by working out to this video. I highly recommend this video to expecting mothers. I wish she had other pregnancy yoga DVD's!!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant and gently satiric themes from the 1960s on the influence of faith, failure, and hope in our lives. Read more

Another true classic Peanuts from Charles Shultz where Linus believes in the Great Pumpkin and will rise in the pumpkin patch and give toys to all of the good boys and girls. It's funny how Sally yelled at him because she missed Halloween for her sweet ba-boo!!!Also, you have to love Snoopy's performance as the Red Baron.Gotta love it!!! 5 stars all the way!!

This delightful Halloween classic is one of my all-time favorite Peanuts specials! Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy and Sally were never more charming as they are in this feature!

4-0 out of 5 stars SHE COULD NEVER DO ANYTHING WRONG
LUCILLE BALL LIT UP THE SCREEN IN THIS MOVIE. AT HER AGE SHE STILL MOVED AND DANCED WITH TOTAL GRACE AND BEAUTY. I LOVED SEEING HER IN THOSE BEAUTIFUL COSTUMES AND BOSOM BUDDY'SWAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SEEN. THE SEEN WHERE EVERYONE SINGS "MAME" AND SHE GLOWINGLY STRUTS AROUND MAKES ME CRY. NEVER BEFORE OR AFTER HER HAS ANY TELEVISION STAR IMPACTED SO MANY PEOPLE. I LOVE LUCY AND I WAS TIRED OF READING SO MANY BAD REVIEWS FOR THIS MOVIE WHEN I LOVED IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucille Ball was Mame, Sorry Angela
I sure loved Lucille Ball in Mame she was so talented and graceful, I don't understand why Lucy got soooo many nasty, and mean comments about her singing and dancing, ITS NOT FAIR !!! One of The reason why Lucy got panned by the critics so Bad was, their were many critics that wantedMiss Angela Lansbury to play Mame in the movie version, although Angela Lansbury originated the role on B-way in 1966, she was past over for the movie role beacuse she had no star power at that time,Don't get me wrong she's a great star but Lucy's star Shines alot brighter the angela's.In 1974 the musicals were long out of fashion and people wanted more reality in their movies, thats another factor, plus the upset critics with their loss of angela not portraying mame, I think today we should give Mame another look with a little more appreciation toward Lucille Ball and to praise not criticize. Heres my vote for Mame on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mame vs Auntie
Mame is a fantastic piece of campery, big productions, fab costumes and sets, witty one liners and Bea Arthur. Auntie Mame was one of the worst films I have ever had to sit through. Rosalind Russell shouts almost every line, in a vain attempt to steal every scene, and although it came first, it is an infinitely inferior piece of film-making when compared to the delight that is Mame. Ms Ball had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and praise be that Ms Russell didn't get the chance to turn Mame into the travesty that is Auntie. ... Read more

If you "love" love stories the way I do, this bittersweet tale of two people from totally different worlds will surely melt your heart (if it doesn't you better make sure it's still ticking).Seriously, it is an excellent movi
