5-0 out of 5 stars ONE WORD!
There is only one word need to sum the whole thing up. PRICELESS!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nunsense/Nunsense2
excellent video.absolutely hilarious, especially if you are3-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Knock-Off
Having watched and loved Nunsense, I was prepared to enjoy Nunsense 2. Although there is a ton of talent onstage, the total effect is lightweight. I kept waiting for this video to get to the good part, but that never happened. I wish it had. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Major Production
Just saying, wouldn't it be cool if they made a major production of this show? It's cool onstage, but why not continue the legacy of one of the most famous shows in Broadway history with a major production. They could do what they did with Rent, have all of the stars from the original cast be in it. But then again, the dancing is amazing on stage. Can they pull that off in a major production?

5-0 out of 5 stars Cats - A Must Purchase
It's kind of funny... I guess I have a different perspective on this.I remember playing the music from selections from Cats... from Memories... to Skimbleshanks, The Railway Cat... to Old Deuteronomy's music.
5-0 out of 5 stars I WAS excited....but now I'm just angry
I made a big mistake in purchasing this dvd.I thought it would be good to commemorate such a famous broadway musical by buying the commemorative edition dvd.Well, unbeknownst to me, this musical was a big flying turd.A big old airborne meatsicle of poopy turds.Granted I don't like musicals, animals OR broadway, but I thought this would be worth a shot.Well, the only thing getting a shot NOW is me....cause I need 30 CC's of Uncrapulator to get this crapfest out of my brain. There is so much poop in my brain now that it's hard to know the difference between when I'm thinking and when the poo is just shifting around.I have to keep my head completely still, or else my ears fart and it's totally embarassing. Thanks SO MUCH, Cats the Musical (Commemorative Edition)...you have ruined my life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great if the Sing-Along Works For You
I returned two of these discs thinking they were defective, before I realized that the sing-along feature just doesn't work on many DVD players.I was finally able to get it to work on my Humax Tivo DVD player/recorder, but when I had tried to play it on my Phillips and Toshiba machines, the songs would be skipped over completely during movie playback, and random lines of the songs were skipped during playback of specific sing-along tracks. Also, no lyrics would show up at all.I was very bummed since this was the only reason I purchased this new edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grease is still the word
All I have to say is finally!!! Finally they have a collecter's edition of Grease with bonus features. I have been waiting years for an edition like this. If you're a lover of Grease buy this DVD!
4-0 out of 5 stars Fine new Rydell Edition... Remastered Video & Audio... Delightful Extras
I won't go into praising the movie. It's already an American Classic and obviously anyone who's contemplating buying this will already love it. I felt guilty about double-dipping but the cute leather jacket was an irresistable gimmick. The following discusses mainly technical aspects of the new disc.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best thing you could ever see!!!
When I first saw this program, it was during a late-night fit of insomnia a year ago.I turned on the TV, flipped through a few channels, and stopped dead when I heard a tidbit of gorgeous, heartwrenching music playing to a program on PBS.It seemed to be a biography...on Gustav Mahler! Now, at the time, I was 18 years old and I had been a classical music fan for just a month or so.But I sat glued to this Mahler program.I learned all about the correlation between his sad, troubled life, and his stormy, tempestuous music.I couldn't have changed the channel if I tried. It was mesmerizing. At the end, when they announced that they would explore the life of Tchaikovsky the next week, I was thrilled.I made a mental note to catch the program, but they must have switched timeslots because I couldn't find the program the week after that.I was pretty let-down about that. But, to my immense joy and complete astonishment, I found the ENTIRE four-tape set at my local library!I took the set home and totally consumed it, hour after hour.It was the most fascinating thing I'd ever watched, and it inspired me beyond measure to soak up all the musical knowledge I could. What makes this set completely astounding is that it utilizes both the music of the composers, and the commentary of expert musicians/conductors/historians to actually put you in the composer's mind! The bits and pieces of music that they showcase are worth the entire price tag in and of themselves.Especially in the Bach program, where a young tenor delivers a STRIKING performance of "Erbarme Dich Mein Gott" from the St. Matthew Passion. It will literally bring tears to your eyes.I really hope that the BBC eventually brings this set to a DVD format.A treasure like this shouldn't be allowed to fade into dust.In closing I'd like to say, this set of tapes changed my life completely. If it can make an 18-year-old classical novice appreciate this music, imagine what it can do for you.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Production of The Best Composers of the Millenium
A very interesting and entertaining look into some of the greatest composers of our time.I just discovered the genius inherit in many of these men, and surprisingly through movies. The Arthurian movie Excalibur had a tremendous Wagner score, I believe the search for the Holy Grail piece, and this lead me to Bach--which lead me to this series through research.Of course I was already familiar with Beethoven and Mozart but more in depth information on their music and life was enjoyable.5-0 out of 5 stars Superb! The Best Video on Composers!
This has to be by far the best, most professionally produced video series on composers today.Kenneth Branaugh's voice-over is a delight and adds to the dramatic scope of the production.Kudos to the BBC!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Memories
I recently recieved the "Funny Lady" soundtrack and was rushed back in time to a wonderful musical treat.First and foremost I received my cd in a very timely fashion. The quality of the cd was excellent.
3-0 out of 5 stars Elephantine Sequel to "Funny Girl" Still Has Certain Charms Here and There
It's easy to malign this bloated 1975 sequel to "Funny Girl", the landmark 1968 musical which ably served as Barbra Streisand's launching pad into movies. This time, the story of Ziegfeld Follies entertainer Fanny Brice's years in the limelight does not provide a character arc which allows us to discover anything new about her character. Instead, director Herbert Ross and screenwriter Jay Presson Allen focus on the turbulent, sometimes comic relationship between the established Brice and her eventual husband, rising impresario Billy Rose. The staccato dialogue between the two, a far cry from the moony worship Brice held for gambler Nick Arnstein in the first movie, is what makes "Funny Lady" good light entertainment even though the old-fashioned narrative often feels disjointed and truncated.
5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than it's predecessor!
I never would have guessed it, but Funny Lady wound up being even better than it's predecessor, Funny Girl! Both of these movies captivate you with their relatable characters and the fantastic music. I loved Streisand's character, Fanny, so much that I ended up naming my Shih Tzu puppy "Fanny Zeigfeld Brice!" :) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
This movie was pretty good. I liked the witch. She is my favorite character because she is a pretty bad villain and I like villains. The parts of the movie that I liked best were the parts with the Wizard and the Munchkins.Once Dorothy and the scarecrow, lion and tin man reach Oz, it gets very interesting. You finally get to see the place they've been following the yellow brick road for. It's cool.I am six.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Version of the Wizard of Oz yet
Known to all, this is the story of Dorothy Gale and herjourney to the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. The most popular film of all time , seen by over a billion people. It's timelessness is proof enough of its value . Certainly flawed when scrutinized and written about for 56 years, but still most beloved. In 1998 rereleased on the big screen: magic. And admittedly the most important film of my life: As a child I was obsessed with the film and only a little less now.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Never Gets Old
"The Wizard Of Oz" is a film truly worthy of the title timeless. No matter how many times, you can't help but be amazed by the sense of wonder and inspiration this film creates. Even after 67 years, it's still one of the most impressive and uplifiting moments in cinema.

4-0 out of 5 stars An engaging and nostalgic musical, with a fresh-faced Judy Garland (and Angela Lansbury, who almost steals the movie)
The Harvey Girls is hard to beat for sheer corny, likable nostalgia. Is it one of the great MGM musicals? Not in my opinion. The narrative is too long, John Hodiak isn't an intriguing romantic lead and some of the comic relief is too broad. Still, the movie carries with it such a high degree of good-natured professionalism that it's easy to like. The story itself is uncomplicated. A group of Harvey girls arrive at Sandrock, Arizona, to open a Harvey House, one of many restaurants Fred Harvey was establishing along the western rail lines. A Harvey House offered good, wholesome food and good, wholesome company. Susan Bradley (Judy Garland) joins them when she and her groom-to-be (Chill Wills) decide in a friendly way that their mail-order marriage arrangement wasn't such a good idea. Determined to stop the Harvey House girls are Ned Trent (John Hodiak) and Sam Purvis (Preston Foster), owners of the Alhambra, a wide-open saloon, dance hall and gambling establishment across the street from the new Harvey House. Em (Angela Lansbury), the dance hall star, doesn't like the competition, either, especially when Susan and Ned begin to notice each other.
5-0 out of 5 stars TheHarvey Girls 1946
Vittles , songs and dance are amply ladeled out when Judy Garland (1922-1969) headlines THE HARVEY GIRLS , a joyous musical slice of Americana Celebrating the reastaurants that bought extra helping of Civilzations to the old West rail passangers . Highlights include Garlands holding Saloon patrons at jittery gunpoint to retrieve stolen beefsteaks , Ray Bolger (1904-1987) loose-limbed comic hoofing . Virginia OBrien (1919-2001) sure shot comic timing , Angela Landsbury (1925- ) stylish wickednees as a salooon singer and the "On the Atchison , Topeka and Santa Fe" romp (nabbing it the 1946 Best Song Academy Award ) Thats "deservedly famous , one of the most triuphant sequnces in screen-musical history!..All aboard . Shot in Sunny California and this movie you will love for years if you love nostalgic movies ! . Also very intresting commentary by the director George Sidney (1916-2001) how shares hi wonderful memoris and private thoughts about today ! . Transfer in Ultra-ResolutionsHigh quality pictures . Truly and Higly Recommended ! . You dont need to like or understand Musicals to love this movie !

2-0 out of 5 stars Judy`s worst

5-0 out of 5 stars These are absolutely fantastic movies
You cannot blame Audrey Hepburn or anybody else involved with these movies for stereotypical portrayals that were socially acceptable at the time. The review below complains about the asian bplayed by Mickey Rooney, but come on! keep in mind that almost every American found this portrayal completely acceptable if not funny when this movie came out. If anything, this is a great representation of our culture at the time that the moviemakers didn't even mean to do--our shallow and xenophobic society. This would only be a problem if you still to this day agreed with the portrayal, which most people don't. Breakfast at Tiffany's is an absolutely fantastic movie, as is My Fair Lady and Roman Holiday.
1-0 out of 5 stars Breakfast at Tiffany's view of Asian character is disgusting
I never write review here but I had to point something out. I am a fan of Audrey Hepburn but there are many reasons why I think that "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was a poor movie. Some of which is that a bad story line is made beautiful by use of the perfect music, perfect lighting, perfect camera filters, perfect actors, etc. Hollywood has perfected the art of emotion manipulation and this movie would be the pinnacle of the art.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great music and scenery , but average sound and video
This is a great documentary and showcase for the talent of Julian Bream . He proves himself a master at playing a number of different musical styles and has the advantage of visual settings that complement the music so well . The program is also an advertisement for Spain itself .
4-0 out of 5 stars Good
In general I liked, mainly from the part of the classic guitar from now on since am not fanatic of the Baroque music. I would have liked more the scenes were focused more in Julian Bream playing the guitar instead of landscapes, cities and people.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Collector's Treasure
If you're a classical guitar music lover, you'll love it. If you're a music lover, or even a lover of art, you don't want to miss it.

Decades before the Hollywood film industry became famous for megabudget disaster and science fiction spectaculars, the studios of Southern California (and particularly Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) were renowned for a uniquely American (and nearly extinct) kind of picture known as The Musical. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to Sing Along With!
Yes, I am one of those obnoxious friends who likes to sing along with the movie. And not only that, I've seen this one so many times, I can talk along with the dialogue, too!Yes, ladies and germs, this is Singin in the Rain! The fabulous movie that has brought you such unforgettable lines as:
1-0 out of 5 stars Singing in the Rain -most excelent
This movie entertains over and over again. The quality of the film on the dvd is great. The extra's on the dvd are well worth it.If you love Gene Kelly this is one you will really treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing movie, even more amazing extras!
This film, I think, can be considered to be the greatest musical of all time. I just LOOOVED it! Gene Kelly's magic feet dance to catchy Jazz-Age tunes, there are colorful musical numers, and superb comedy. What more could you ask for? And I'm glad it's finally out on a 2-disc special edition, with great special features. I loved the documentaries on disc 2, but what I REALLY LIKED about the extras were the musical clips from the movies where the songs originated! I didn't know about Freed/Brown songs then, I was suprised to find out that the movie was based on all of those songs from the early talkies. Those clips just changed my life. I bought most of the movies they were excerpted from. Now I know who Eleanor Powell is, I know who Robert Taylor is, and I'm totally hooked on their films! I've seen practically all of Eleanor Powell's movies! I mostly love about the extras is the "I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin'" clip. The first time I saw it, I was just dazed, and I was wondering who the heck Robert Taylor and June Knight were. I thought that musical number was the most beautiful and most escapist and most romantic number I'd ever seen in my life. Taylor and Knight make a LOVELY looking couple. Oh, and I've also seen 2 of June Knight's few films. So I bought Broadway Melody of 1936. Now, it's my favorite movie. If you don't see that you're missin' out big time. This movie, Singin' in the Rain started movie collecting which consists of over a 100 DVDs and rare VHSs. So I just want to say that Singin' in the Rain is one of my favorite movies of all time, and thank God for it, or else I'd never have liked musicals and old movies in the first place. P.S. The song "I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' really should've been a big production musical number in Singin' in the Rain. Bet it would've turned out wonderful, because that's such a great song, maybe even better than the title tune! ... Read more
