Editorial Review

"Hi, I'm Ray and I live here in Long Island with my wife, Debra." Thus Ray (Ray Romano) introduces himself in the opening to each episode of his Emmy-winning comedy series. He proceeds to mention their children (Ally, Michael, and Geoffrey), then notes as an aside, "It's not really about the kids." He's right--it isn't. They don't even appear in each episode. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars when it all strarted
This is the second dysfunctional family I know, besides mine of course lol. It's a realistic show (more so than Full House) and I can relate.Raymond "Ray" Barone (Ray Romano), who is a sports writer, is married to Debra (Patricia Heaton) and they have three beautiful children Ally (Madylin Sweeten) and twins Geoffrey and Michael (Sawyer and Sullivan Sweeten, who are real life brothers to Madylin).Ray's parents Marie (Doris Roberts) and Frank (Peter Boyle) live across the street along with his brother Robert (Brad Garrett), who has always been jealous of his older brother. With everything that happens, short from having a mental breakdown, Ray keeps cool and witty at all times.

2-0 out of 5 stars Slow Start.
Outside of episodes 4,5,10,20,21, and 22 the first season was not stellar by any means. The first episode and the Eulogy one were lame. Thankfully, this series was not cancelled. It would turn out to be one of my favorites over time. The last two episodes is when the series hit its stride. The Barones will be very missed.

4-0 out of 5 stars a very funny and successful inaugural season
I am pretty sure that while some of you have been tuning into "Raymond" from the very beginning, there are many, many other loyal fans who didn't start getting into the show until it really took off around Season 4. In any case, this season is a very fun one to revisit and will undoubtedly take you back to the cast's much earlier days.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Quantum Leap classic
i dont know why they took this show off after only 5 seasons.the pilot episode is great, if you have any questions about quantum leap, this episode will answer all of your questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think it was very awesome in how Sam dealt his merory.
How he dealt with his loss of memory, and also how he jumped into the accelerator just to provehis point on his theory of Quantum physics. Also how he dealt with the premature labor of his (Tom Stratton's) wife.Plus, Ithink Quantum Leap is cool, But the pilot episode goes above thenorm. to FAR-OUT!

5-0 out of 5 stars The most memorable leap aside from the show finale
Catch a Falling Star has to be the most memorable 'leap'.The reality of the actors playing persons who are themselves actors gives this leap a great sense of being actually there watching as the show is being made.A most memorable line from Dean Stockwell (Al) as he describes the emotion of his real-life vs pseudo-reality while being scanned in close by the camera "all eyes focused on yourself" is fantastic. You are able to think about both the actual story AND about what it must be like to make the series at the same time.Plus, Sam not only gets his girl, he shows a darker side and wishes the person he is supposed to save "breaks his arrogant ass".It is so un-Sam-like and yet so human (he is jealous). Of course Sam comes through in the end and marches off stage into his next Leap with Al by his side - but for 50 wonderful minutes you feel as if you have been there too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential QL
Like Shock Theatre and The Leap Home, Catch a Falling Star is a "must have" for any true Quantum Leap lover. This episode showcases Scott Bakula's singing talent. The episode was written using Man of La Mancha as a metaphor for the friendship between Sam and Al for Don Quiote and Sancho. Very moving.

5-0 out of 5 stars Likely the best tv episode I've seen
While I've certainly not seen every television show ever made, I've seen quite a bit.I'm not a huge QL fan, but I don't know if I've ever seen anything this good. Not perfect, but I still tear up a little thinking about the ending.Try to see parts 1 and 2 consecutively if you can.5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Leap:The Leap Home
"Quantum Leap" is my favorite show of all time and I never missed an episode.I wish it never went off the air!I have to say that my favorite episodes are "The Leap Home" when Sam leaps into himself as a teenager and then into his brother's sqad in Vietnam. The two parts are extremely moving. The very last scene of part two still gives me chills. The acting is superb by both Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell (as always).I highly recommend "The Leap Home" and any of the other episodes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unfair Trading Practices!
These videos are excellent and well worth buying. I am, however, extremely disappointed that Quantum Leap is NOT available to English customers. On www.amazon.co.uk, Quantum Leap is only available in the books. Which sadly fail to live up to the series. Why are the videos only for sale to America and Canada. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Reminscent of "Stranger on a Train"
As I watched this I kept seeing Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" in my mind.Linda Purl plays a hardworking single mother who has a very hard driving boss who sometimes takes credit for her work.Linda Gray plays the pampered wife of a very wealthy but cheating husband. They meet because of an automobile accident ( hence the title of the film ) and in sharing their woes a plot is hatched for each of them doing away with the other's problem. But can these two attractive women actually summon the courage to kill?

5-0 out of 5 stars sad but beautiful
Wonderful performances by Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell.Great plot.Loved it.Just one of the many reasons Quantum Leap should have lasted longer than it did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely One of The BEST Quantum Leap Episodes Ever
This episode is extremely satisfying for anyone who is familiar with the series and especially the Sam-Al relationship. It is a definite tour-de-force for Scott Bakula's acting talents, as it is a rare time when he not only plays Sam Beckett but "becomes" those he has previously leapt into. I highly recommend this episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Leap at its best
This is by far one of the best Quantum Leap episodes there is. Sam loses touch with his reality due to a shock therapy treatment and "becomes" people that he has previously leaped into. This causes the project to almost lose contact with Sam for good. This episode has some great suspense as Al fights to make Sam realize who he is all the while fading in nd out as Ziggy fights to keep contact. The episode has a wonderful surprise ending as well, and its a great shame the companion episode hasn't been released on video as well. Anyway, this one is well worth a few bucks and will provide you hours of enjoyment as it is worth watching again and again and again. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam leaps into a detective with a gruesome murder to solve
"Dreams-February 28, 1979" is something of a misnomer, because this "Quantum Leap" episode (#61, November 13, 1991) is more about nightmares.Sam leaps into a detective who is investigating a pretty gruesome murder. He may well me next on the murderer's hit list and the only ones who can help him are the victim's catatonic son and her husband's psychiatrist. To make things even more interesting, Sam is experiencing horrible flashbacks.Written by Deborah Pratt (who also wrote "Shock Theater" for the series), "Dreams" has guest stars Jocelyn O'Brien, Alan Scarfe and Bill Marcus.Certainly an interesting choice for inclusion in the video collection, which is a nice way of saying there are other episodes I would have selected first (the Lee Harvey Oswald ones being my first choice).

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
This video is very good and interesting, because it is defferent from other episodes of QL. It is cute to see Sam's vonerability and Al is there for Sam as usual. As also in many other QL episodes in this it is not onlyabout the plot itself, but about the friendship between the two men.Irecommend to buy the video and enjoy one of the best episodes of QuantumLeap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Leap - Dreams
This is a bit different from other Quantum Leap shows in the fact that it's length is shorter and the plot is a murder mystery. Its a good who-done-it movie with a turn of events that is surprising. I had neverseen this episode on TV so it was totally new to me and I did enjoy it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Reason WKRP is Still Not on DVD
The reason is simple.Money.Copyright laws have changed in recent years and this requires that each and every song that is used in a particular episode, even if the song only played for a few seconds, must be licensed. This takes time and, more importantly money. It is quite possible that, in order to get complete episodes on DVD with the same music could make a DVD set prohibitively expensive for most people and thus it will be priced out of the market. They could replace some of this music with cheaper, generic tunes, but when that has been done in syndicated airings of WKRP longtime fans have revolted.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why is WKRP in Cincinnati but not on DVD?
And why can't we get unadulterated shows? No more music-edited versions. And all of them, not a limited collection, just like all the other great (and many far less than great) TV shows of the past! Why?Why? Why?This was a great show; give it and the many, many fans the treatement we all deserve! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam finds its a whole new world when he leaps into Samantha
Sam leaps into a woman in "What Price Gloria? - October 16, 1961" (Episode #13, October 25, 1989).Samantha Stormer is a gorgeous secretary for an automobile company, which means he has to deal with not only being sexually harassed by his boss (John Calvin) and a suicide attempt by his roommate (Jean Segal), but the effect Samantha's looks are having on Al.Not a classic episode of "Quantum Leap," but certainly above average as Sam gets to see how the other half lives. As always, the chief charm is Scott Bakula's completely convincing performance.Written by Deborah Pratt, this episode was directed by Alan J. Levi.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think Sam's first leap into a woman was funny.
I felt it was funny to see Sam's first forayinto a woman's body, although I didn't thinkSamantha looked that pretty when they showed her in the mirror. But the episode itself was good. September 7, 1999-

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to see Sam's first leap into a woman.
I thought it was funny to see the first episode where Sam leaped into a woman, although I think the actress who played Samantha's image in the mirror could have been prettier if the plot was partly about Al's reactionto Sam.- September 7, 1999 ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There were better ones .
My advise is to avoid this episode . It is quite a surprise they released it on VHS and with a price tag of [price]!!! There were a whole lot better ones and with the same amount of money you can get your hands on one of the best (double!) episodes of the series called "The leap home" ...5-0 out of 5 stars A great episode from a great show!
Why this show was cancelled is beyond me. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are a great team and together create real emotional depth as Dr. Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci. The science of the show is not as riveting to me as is the camaraderie between the two leads, who basically carried the show. Bakula is an actor of great versatility and style, and he plays Sam with a sweet befuddlement that is nowhere more apparent than this episode. Sam's body betrays him as he leaps into the developmentally disabled "Jimmy." He cannot seem to do anything right and it is desperately important that he not be sent back to the institution. Jimmy's sister-in-law grows more and more annoyed as Jimmy breaks plates and generally disrupts her house. Jimmy's brother and nephew accept him as he is, but Jimmy must prove himself to his brother's wife and does so in a heroic way. The usually-wisecracking Al shows a tender side as he pleads with Sam not to give up on Jimmy, giving us know a little more insight into his life.4-0 out of 5 stars Jimmy

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't think it was believable
Sorry to disagree with the other reviewers, but I just didn't find this show believable. There is no Minnesota State and there isn't an NFL team called the Breakers. If you can't get the facts straight in the beginning how do you expect to win a viewers trust as the show moves on. And Jerry Van Dyke as a football coach? Was Don Knotts not available?

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam in black .
This is the best episode of the first season . This was the first success of the brand new series in touching my heart , in helping to understand how is it to walk in someone else's shoes , and especially , in a black man's shoes . As for the story itself , Sam leaps into a black man in the early Sixties and refuses to suffer from the discrimination and segregation blacks endured on those days . 4-0 out of 5 stars Different in a good way

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic U.S Sitcom
Paramounts smash hit sitcom, Cheers enjoyed an astoundingly successful run between 1982 - 1993. In that time, a total of 270 episodes were made and (purley from my own personal opinion) most of the series finest episodes were amongst the first handful of seasons which saw the odd but enjoyable match of Ted Danson and the adorable Shelley Long who played neurotic accademic, Diane Chambers to utter perfection. Ted Danson is equally effective who is the central figure in the series, running the aptly named Cheers bar. He plays the likeable Sam Malone whose previous claim to fame had been as a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Scox baseball team. Diane Chambers arrives at Cheers with her snobbish fiancee. He leaves her alone at Cheers whilst he says he'd be back within the hour - he doesn't show up and knowing full well she'd been jilted in favour for someone else she takes a job as a barmaid at Cheers which soon brings her more down to earth and likeable and slowly succumbs to Sam's boyish charm. Their rocky on-off relationship was fun to watch and both spark off each other and show naturalistic affection for each other making it all the more beleavable. Giving superb backing support is Rhea Perlman as the tough-talking, fiery Carla who provides many laughs through the series. Her timing and witty delivery is simply immpecable and was a key element in making the series such a clear winner. 5-0 out of 5 stars Like a fine one-act play
Seeing this recently, I was reminded how much Cheers' premiere was paced like a fine one-act play. The humor was smart, the acting wonderful. This went well beyond normal TV fare. It's hard to match this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cheers Pilot, where everybody gets to learn their names
"Give Me A Ring Sometime," the pilot episode for the celebrated television sitcom "Cheers," still stands up 20 years later.Sam "May Day" Malone (Ted Danson), the ex-Red Sox relief pitcher and recovering alchoholic, runs his Boston bar with the less than able assistance of his old pitching coach Ernie Pantusso (Nicholas Colasanto) and Carla Torteli (Rhea Perelman), the wise-cracking waitress.Into this madhouse comes Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), a teaching assistant about to leave for the Caribbean with her current fiance and former literature professor, Summer Sloan (Michael McGuire).By the end of the episode Diane has been jilted, Sam offers her a job as a waitress, and the rest is televison history.Written by Glen Charles & Les Charles, the script sells us on the characters right away.My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen more bar arguments like the one they have in this episode concerning "the Sweatiest Movie" of all time.Summer Sloan might be a nattering boob, but the man does know his sweaty films. This tape is the first volume in the "Cheers" series. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars TV Gold
Watching these old Cheers episodes just conviinces me all the more that in the beginning, Cheers was parallel to Seinfeld, Mash and any other great American sitcom, sadly this couldn't be said by the end of the show's run.Boys in the bar is the first episode to properly explore Sam's character and morals, by the end of the show's run, it was hard to tell whether Sam still had a personality.Let me count the ways is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Cheers episodes. In the show's early years, the beauty of the writing was in how out of place Dinae was in the bar, and the the rest of the gang reacted in contrast. This episode also proves the sprak that actors Ted Danson and Shelley Long created were when put together (although it was said Sam and Diane's bitter squabbling spilled over into the on-set atmosphere.)In my opinion, it was this spark that was the soul of the whole show, I rarely watched once Kirstie Alley came on board, all that was left was great characters, while the writing had no real focus. But watch these classic episodes, and you're watching some of the best television ever written.

4-0 out of 5 stars One classic and one average Cheers first season episode
This 3rd Volume in the "Cheers" collection offers a couple of episodes from the show's first season."The Boys in the Bar" (Original Airdate: 01/27/83) finds Tom Kenderson (Alan Autry) coming by the bar to ask for Sam's support for his autobiography.Of course, Sam has not read the book and has to be told by Diane that in it Tom "comes out of the closet."Sam is thrown, but in the end he supports his friend. When gays start frequenting the bar, the gang decide they have to take matters into their own hands to stop Cheers from becoming a gay bar.The teaser for this episode has Harry Anderson helping Diane cover the pool table.Written by Ken Levine and David Isaacs, this episode was directed by James Burrows and is #16 for those keeping count. 5-0 out of 5 stars more titles

5-0 out of 5 stars Diane has to deal with Andy Andy and old pal Julia Duffy
These two first-season episodes in the "Cheers" collection present "The Best of Diane Chambers."In "Diane's Perfect Date" (Original Airdate: 02/10/83), Sam and Diane have been criticizing each other's dates so they agree to fix each other up with the "perfect date."Sam is convinced that Diane has herself in mind for him, so when she shows up with her friend Gretchen (Gretchen Corbett) he grabs the first person who comes through the door to go out with Diane.Unfortunately, Andy Andy (Derek McGrath) has just gotten out of jail. This episode, #17 in the show's history for those keeping count of such things, was written by David Lloyd and directed by James Burrows.Note: Andy Andy makes a memorable return appearance the following season in "Homicidal Ham."5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious episodes!
Both episodes are hilarious!!! "Diane's Perfect Date" cracks me up whenever I get the chance to watch it. Sam and Diane agreed to find each other a date... Diane found an attractive and intelligent date for Sam, but he couldn't find anyone for Diane! He spotted a guy who was so opposite of Diane, but there was so much more than to this! I love the part when they all four arrived at the bar from their date, and Shelley Long was HILARIOUS! :) Check it out!Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A compromise .
In this episode Sam is a teenager trying to open his sister's mind to the fact that the man she has chosen to marry is a very poor choice . You won't remember much of the episode after seeing it , but it's better than the some of the other bargains offered here .

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best QL episodes
