Editorial Review

The Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Director Robert Zemeckis, and Best Actor Tom Hanks, this unlikely story of a slow-witted but good-hearted man somehow at the center of the pivotal events of the 20th century is a funny and heartwarming epic. Hanks plays the title character, a shy Southern boy in love with his childhood best friend (Robin Wright) who finds that his ability to run fast takes him places. As an All-Star football player he meets John F. Kennedy; as a soldier in Vietnam he's a war hero; and as a world champion Ping-Pong player he's hailed by Richard Nixon. Becoming a successful shrimp-boat captain, he still yearns for the love of his life, who takes a quite different and much sadder path in life. The visual effects incorporating Hanks into existing newsreel footage is both funny and impressive, but the heart of the film lies in its sweet love story and in the triumphant performance of Hanks as an unassuming soul who savors the most from his life and times. 2-0 out of 5 stars Sorry Tom......
I'm giving this movie two stars because of the supporting actors, and, the book from which the movie is taken.I believe those are what the rest of the reviews are truely applauding without realizing it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Deja Vu All Over Again
The fuss over Forrest Gump still amazes me. This movie basically rips off better movies in almost every scene. Still somehow it managed to win Best Picture over Pulp Fiction And The Shawshank Redemption in 1994. Out of all of the movies that were released 1n 94 this one wouldnt even make my top 20. Nobodys Fool, Quiz Show, The Lion King, and the list goes on. The only reason that I would give it props is for(at the time) was the special effects, which now are dated. After Gump Zemekis directed a episode of Tales From The Crypt where he used the same Technology and was easiest the worst episode of that year. I used to be a HUGE Zemekis fan. Used Cars, Romancing the Stone, Back to the Furture movies and Death Becomes Her were I thought were strong movies. But arounf Back to the Future 2I thought Zemekis started to rely to much on special effects and it shows on this film. To the objective viewer re-watch this film and think about every scene and try to remember where you have seen that scene before. I guarantee you after you do that you will see this movie in a totally different light.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "It's A Wonderful Life" of the 60's generation
Forrest Gump is an absolutely brilliant film that captures the 60's and the early 70's in the same way that Frank Capra's wonderful film did for the WWII generation.

3-0 out of 5 stars streep is a creep but goldie rawks!
why does meryl streep continue to think she can do comedy?(then again, why does meryl streep continue to think she can do drama?)but never mind, bruce willis is wonderfully understated here and goldie is goldie.this is hardly a great movie but its fun for what it is.
5-0 out of 5 stars A TERRIFIC MOVIE THAT WARRANTS A WIDESCREEN RELEASE ASAP!
This movie is a real hoot, with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn embroiled in a Bette Davis/Joan Crawford-type feud... the plot was pure genius and the special effects were ahead of their time. With terrific performances by all the leads, this one is an "essential video" for your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A witty and funny comedy
A witty and funny comedy with a dark and hysterically devilish undertone. The three actors, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis play their parts brilliantly making what could be an oddball script into a brilliantly comedic classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Special Movie
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is quite simply a most magical filmmaking experience. It's a film that is truly brilliant in every way imaginable. From its plot, a brilliant homage to the great film noir thrillers of the 1940s', to the fantastic visuals, still impressive even today, to its smart, funny, fast paced script, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is a truly timeless piece of cinema.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love it .

5-0 out of 5 stars Four Oscars!
Well-deserved Oscars for Editing, Visual Effects, Sound Effects Editing, and Special Achievement (animation direction) recommend this delightful film, which combines live action and animation before CGI came into regular use.Watch for the beautifully realized details throughout. For example, the Toons have shadows, and when one is thrown against a venetian blind, it bends and makes the sound of somebody actually hitting a venetian blind. The interaction between live action and animation is so good, you quickly forget they're not really together at all -- and much of the credit for such realistic "interaction" must go to live actor Bob Hoskins. There are a load of extras in this 2-disc package, including both fullscreen and widescreen versions, audio commentary, a deleted scene, and a very interesting "before and after" split-screen comparison with and without animation. This is a technical masterpiece and well worth seeing again and again. ... BACK TO THE FUTURE
5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
Okay so maybe it's not a classic...but I think that it should be.This is a very well written script that stands the test of time.Watching this film on cable yesterday, the movie doesn't once fall into the campy column.I can't say the same for the rest of the series. To tell you the truth I think that they should have stopped at the one movie. But still, this movie has everything, laughs, lite-suspense, and just an all around good, clean family fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Touching Film of Courage, Canniness, and Survival
This is a very moving film of one man's determination to stay alive while alone on a desert island after a plane crash. You can feel Chuck Noland's frustration level build as nothing seems to be going right, and he finally crashes emotionally when his only friend on the island (a volleyball named Wilson) floats out to sea.
4-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Part of Film History
About 90% of the film you only see one actor, one person on the screen: no one else expect that one man...
4-0 out of 5 stars I forgt how powerful this film really was...
I watched this film again in anticipation of Hanks in The DaVinci Code. And I was amazed at how much I reacted this movie after 2 years. Unlike others, I don't like to give away the film. Details can sometimes make it so the film doesn't need to be seen. I prefer to express the emotion in this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally Anamorphic
Eventhough the sound is not upgraded (Dolby Surround), the picture is. Now you can watch this extremely entertaining movie in an anamorphic widescreen. It looks nice and crisp on my 16:9 TV. Same thing goes for the sequel "Jewel of the Nile" except for a better audio sound with 4.0 surround. Hopefully Fox will release a new ANAMORPHIC version of "The Abyss" and "The edge". The latest release of "Young Frankenstein" is now available for the fist time ever in anamorphic widescreen. Audio remains MONO though, unfortunately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Adventure Fun On The Highest Level!
In 1984, when this movie was releashed, movie lovers were in the grip of Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was releashed in that same year, the second instalment in the Indiana series), and so this movie was labeld an Indiana Jones clone.

2-0 out of 5 stars A weak sequel but still enjoyable to watch!
I enjoyed the first two a lot but the third one seems to be weak. It's nothing close like the first two and the plot didn't seem to make sense to me. The ending was cool but I sure wish they made a BTTF 4 but BTTF 3 seems to be the end of the series. The acting is not bad though but I didn't see any similarities with the first two it was just a newer adventure where they go cowboy but it's still fun to watch if your a BTTF fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Was This the Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made?
Well, there are five reasons. The first four are found in the review of the DVD set of all five;here is the last one:
3-0 out of 5 stars THE FUNNIEST WESTERN EVER MADE.
*** stars for "Back To The Future, Part III". Well, this movie isn't exactly a western, but it's a nice twist in the direction of the series, and a good conclusion to this excellent saga. This time, Marty (Michael J. Fox) and our favorite mad scientist Doc Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) are stuck in the Old West, and that premise gives a lot of opportunities to play with opposite genres, Western and Sci-Fi.

Editorial Review

Critics and audiences didn't seem too happy with this inventive, perhaps too clever sequel to the popular 1985 comedy about a high school kid (Michael J. Fox) who travels into the past and has to bring his parents together (or lose his own existence). Director Robert Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication to this follow-up, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. It's well worth a visit, though, just to appreciate the imagination that went into it, particularly in a finale that has Fox's character watching his own actions from the first film. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Carl Sagan's Vision Comes Alive
This movie is based on Carl Sagan's novel of the same name.Carl is no longer with us, but he was a key component in the production of this film.Starring Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, and William Fichtner, this fine film will capture your interest from the start, and even more so if you are into Science Fiction. You really get caught up in Ellie Arroway's heartfelt desire to make contact with another world. She gets her chance, and what follows is nothing short of miraculous.I cried during this movie. It tugs at your heartstrings in a big way at times. This is a truly great movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars No words...
This film always brings me to tears. No matter how much I know my emotionalstrings are being tugged, when Jodie Foster's face morphs into herself as a child and she whispers "No words"... well, I'm crying now.
5-0 out of 5 stars Carl Sagan would be proud
Somebody once said that good science fiction puts an ordinary situation into a futuristic or scientific backdrop. Contact is a prime example of how to make a good drama in a setting of science and exploration. It's as true an adaptation to Carl Sagan's novel as you can get considering what you have to do to make the events of the book fit into a feature film. They certainly don't skimp on the special effects either. The opening scene alone is beautiful in it's expansiveness. 'The Machine' hey build to do the space exploration thing is awesome to behold. They do a great job portraying the massive scale of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Plain funny movie, or was it at TAXI ????
I remember seeing this many years ago as a staple of late night movies, or sunday afternoon fillers. Now, being available on DVD, it is a must have for any movie collector.Kurt Russell plays one of the shadiest car salespeople you will ever meet. Two Brothers have competing auto dealerships across the road from each other. One is an old fashioned hard working man, the other is slick, shiney, and greasing the palms of all the important people.Watch these two dealerships slug it out with outrageous promotions, "honest salesmanship", and a whole lot of water based blue paint."Was This A TAXI?" is the first line I use when looking at Pre-Owned Cars now.get this movie, it's a sidesplitter.
4-0 out of 5 stars What have I done to the children?
When cineophiles think of classic 80s comedies, I would only hope that Used Cars makes their list.I had the unique opportunity to watch this film, and it took me back to a time when bathroom humor and gross sexual jokes were not needed to create hysterical comedy. It reminded me of a time when spontaneity and simplicity allowed for more laughter than imagined. This was the case with Used Cars. As I am a man in the used car business, I was a bit nervous about watching this film and perhaps seeing myself muddled in the middle.Needless to say that after watching this movie, I believe that every used car salesman (or anyone in sales for that matter) should watch Used Cars for not just Zemeckis' silly look at the profession, but because it actually does cover the true basis needed to run a successful dealership. As I watched this film, I couldn't think that Zemeckis made Russell and Graham's characters into very creative individuals, sometimes bending the law to assist in gaining a stronger customer base. They were smart, shrewd, and clever when it came to making the customer feel comfortable buying a car from them, which opened the door to more laughs per mile than most modern day comedies.Used Cars is a staple in the comedy genre, demonstrating that you can spoof a career, reinvent an age old story, and use mathematics (1 mile of cars = 250 cars) all to make a viewer laugh. It is a film that will make me laugh again and again, proving that it sustained well over the test of time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Classic Funnies!

1-0 out of 5 stars Are we supposed to take this seriously?
Seriously, this movie has Michelle...I don't care that much to finish her last name. She is a terrible actress and yet she keeps getting roles in good movies. This isn't one of them. Unlike her catwoman preformance in "Batman Returns" where she was at least nice to look at, she does nothing in this movie. It's not even up to par with "Dangerous Laisons," in which where suppsoed to believe the hottest women in france are Glenn Close (ok, technically she is an attractive older woman) and Michelle. If that's true, I'm never going to france.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very well done , we even get to see Harrison Ford with no
shirt, not bad for a guy pushing 70.And Michelle always looks adorable.Loved the plot, perfect family, perfect house, perfect dog, perfect friends, perfect husband, a scientist with a big salary no less, perfect size 2 wife, and something hidden, dirty and horrifying to screw it all up.Enjoy!

3-0 out of 5 stars BENEATH Contempt
I jest just a bit with that headline. This film is more disappointing than truly contemptible. WHAT LIES BENEATH looked like it might be that rare Hollywood commodity: a horror film geared toward a somewhat more mature audience. Casting respected actors (and major stars) like Ford and Pfeiffer seemed promising. And even though I am not a huge fan of director Zimeckis, I figured you could count on him for a solid, if not necessarily inspired product.
