4-0 out of 5 stars Jaime Pressly: Suductress Extraordinaire
The star of this film, Jamie Pressly, has recently been commended for her acting ability. In early 2006 she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in the TV comedy series "My Name is Earl."Also, in early October, 2006, she was guest host on NBC's Saturday Night Live.Ms. Pressly has the unique ability, by changing her facial expressions (using mostly her large blue eyes and mouth) to instantly transform her appearance from a beautiful seductress to a freaked out psycho.
4-0 out of 5 stars Jamie Pressly. Nice!
I rented this movie for the same reason many males do. Jaime Pressly (the redneck chick from such movies as Joe Dirt and the TV show My Name is Earl) made her film debut with this direct-to-video sequel. And in this film, she takes off her clothes. Believe me, that's the reason that 97% of the people who watch this movie watch it for. The other 3% is people who are forced to watch it with those people. I've never seen the first Poison Ivy (which starred Drew Barrymore) or the 2nd (Alyssa Milano); But, this plot is relatively connected. The movie begins at a large house, probably in California. Two young sisters named Ivy and Violet are playing with their friend Joy, while their mother (who is the house, housekeeper and looks way too young to have children...And way way too hot) has sex with some guy. The owner of the house (Joy's father) comes home and catches them in the act. Apparently Joy's father, Ivan and Ivy and Violet's Mom are having an affair; Which Ivan's wife finds out about. Flash forward a few years later. Ivan (Michael Des Barres) is divorced, Joy (Megan Edwards) is all grown up and engaged to Michael (Greg Vaughan). Everything's perfect is Suburbia. Then Violet (Pressly) shows up on their doorstep with seemingly innocent intentions. Of course, the viewer knows that isn't so. Soon, Violet begins working a mind game (that like so many movie mind games would never work in real life) in an attempt to ruin Joy's life. Technically, she has a motive. But, she's kind of taking it out on the wrong person. While the writer does make Violet slightly crazy, she's obviously not insane...So, why doesn't she ever think about what she's doing? Nothing I've written so far even really matters. Let's face it, most of you are not going to rent it for the story. The movie, for a direct-to-video movie, isn't that bad actually. Sure, the story's pretty stupid...But its entertaining and Pressly bares near all. This movie is not a masterpiece; If you're not a testosterone driven guy, you probably won't like this movie that much. If you don't like Jaime Pressly, you probably won't like this movie that much. But, if you do like Pressly. See this movie NOW!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Once again Lance Henriksen steals the show!
I really like this movie because Lance Henriksen is outstanding as Burns...funny, original, and with his incredible ability to move from caring to menacing in the blink of an eye or simply a look. Molly, Michael, and Alex keep repeating the same lines ad nauseam. Lance/Burns is really the only person worth watching and he's wonderful.I SO WISH for a Region 1 DVD version!A must for all Lance Henriksen fans!
5-0 out of 5 stars Henriksen's uncoventional bad guy comes out to play
This is a great who-dun-it with lots of twists and turns. And the man who steals the spotlight is Lance Henriksen (Aliens) with one of his uncoventional scary guy creations. Molly Ringwald (Fresh Horses) and Donal Logue (Dear God) play a couple in hiding in Baha. They are trying to get money from her dad played by Corben Bersen (Major League). They'd had a drug deal go bad earlier and a person was killed. It wasn't until much later that they noticed the strange tourist (Henriksen) hanging around. Then surprising things begin to happen. This is a great movie for Henriksen fans and a great one for those who love a mystery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Flawed but very interesting
There's a goofy charm to this film. It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be, but instead of ending up a mess, it manages to maintain a good pace, a comprehensible storyline and more-than-adequate character development. A good, occasionally noir soundtrack evens the whole thing out nicely. The boys - Lance Henriksen in particular - seem to be having a good time; unfortunately Molly Ringwald doesn't ever seem to catch on, but that's okay 'cause she turns in a reasonable if somewhat lower-key performance than her male co-stars. Flawed but interesting. Absolutely worth the time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a grate action film
This movie was so good. I say this is a must see movie for evreyone especially Millano fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars SEXY THRILLER WITH A KIND OF HEARTFELT VIOLENCE
This movie starts out as a young couple driving to the husband's family's house. When they get there, [Alyssa Milano] immediately finds out that the husband (i forgot his name) is not well appreciated. So they go deep intothe basement to talk, and end up making love. While they are having sex, they hear commotion upstairs. They find that everyone upstairs has beenkilled. Then [Alyssa] soon finds out that....well I can't spoil the moviebut it's great despite Alyssa's seemingly massive rash of low-budgetmovies. (I like her in Charmed on the WB)

2-0 out of 5 stars Excitement? Thrills? Look elsewhere!!
The only thing that saves this movie from putting you to sleep are the 2 main stars, Alyssa Milano & Ice-T. There isn't any storyline that hasn't been done before & as for twists, the only twists in this moviewill be your stomach churning from feeling like you've seen this before. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars UNUSUAL STORY GENERALLY HANDLED WELL.
Director Kurt Voss has typically avoided the familiar and never more so than with this early effort made with a very low budget, an uneven psychological thriller which delivers satisfying results. The plot involves a loner named Bud, played by Brad Dourif in his usual highly idiosyncratic fashion, who works at an easy job evenings in the freezer box of a liquor store, restocking shelves as needed, while gambling on horses during the day. Bud lives in a tawdry apartment building in a rundown area and when a man and his purported sister move into the complex, the relationship between this trio becomes the focus of the film. The newcomers may not actually be siblings, and the man, Matthew (Michael Harris), an artist, soon gives instructions to his roommate Randi (Sammi Davis) to approach Bud and develop erotic contact with him. It is soon made plain that Matthew utilizes the histories of those seduced by Randi as thematic series for his gallery showings but in this instance Bud, who has secrets of his own, proves to be a harrowing subject. The connection between the horseplayer and his boss George, the liquor store proprietor (Vic Tayback), is interesting largely because, as the story wends its way along, we and George are often surprised by whatever Bud will do next. Voss, who contributes to the script, likes closeups and uses them effectively while keeping us in the dark as to his characters' motivations, right until the picture's insightful ending. Michael Harris, as the rather debased painter, steals the film with his insouciant performance, as he plays off the rest of the small cast with aplomb. Sammi Davis is believable as the possible paramour of Bud, and Vic Tayback is wry in his scenes as the cynical store owner, bringing an air of clarity to the storyline when it flags. HORSEPLAYER is edited well and is supplied with an aptly moody score, and only occasional lapses of sense in the dialogue and Dourif's off-putting strangeness will cool one's enthusiasm for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delectable treat
Although the acting is a bit on the amateurish side, this is a fun and enjoyable movie about the struggles of an all-girl rock & roll band. It is smart, clever, and suspenseful, definitely better than most movies like it, especially the more recent Prey for Rock and Roll. If you can get past the shot on video look, which I felt suited the film just fine, this one is is worth seeing. I enjoyed it immensely, but recommend it more to the indie loving crowd. Others might be put off unfortunately.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie
Okay -- I'll concede that I noticed the bad acting. In the first scene, there were such bad breaks in the flow of conversation, I thought I was watching a bad porn. But after that I just stopped caring (and it got a little better).I thought the plot was really well-designed.I was gripped to the screen though the whole thing to find out the answer posed in the intro. If you want Hollywood, watch "Josie and the Pussycats."

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
Ok, so the acting isn't the best - it started out pretty bad, but then either 1. it got better or 2. I got used to it and didn't care. This is a fun, entertaining movie.I can see how some people could find this terrible, BUT if you're into low budget, independent movies like myself, you will probably like it.If not, save yourself the hassle and avoid this movie. This is a GREAT low budget rock chick flick with lots of sex, drugs, booze, fights, stereotypical plot...and of course rock and roll!I give it 4 stars out of 5 (only because of the predictible rock cliches and...well, some bad acting). ... This is a movie that has it all, chilling and funny at the same time. These actors make this quirky story work, and after one viewing, you'll want to see it again. It was re-released as "Highway Hitcher" to try to find an audience, but that is not even an apt title for this piece of work. Don't miss this, under either banner!

This movie was a pleasant surprise for me. Forsythe dropped his tough-guy image and did a makeover as a milquetoast businessman who innocently picks up a hitchhiker and drives into trouble. This is one of his best, and he's totally believable in the role. Forsythe's one of my favorite actors because he becomes the characters he plays. I will add this movie to my collection. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Painfully bad acting!
I bought this DVD actually thinking I was buying a different movie that I loved a few years ago. Besides the disappointment that it wasn't the movie I thought it was. STILL, the acting is just plain BAD. Ice-T was even a terrible actor in this film. And I like Ice-T as an actor! 95% of this film takes place in an abandoned warehouse and just drags on and on. The plot is so simple, how can anyone screw it up? BAD ACTING! Don't waste your time. Unless you have too much time on your hands...

I'm here today reviewing the Hiest starring one of today's leading action moguls Mr. Luke Perry. Put it up! Yes kids I'm back, they tried to silence old Donny Mac here but I'm here to stay this time.Ok lets get down to business. The Hiest encompesses all the needs of an action movie; Luke Perry, Ice-T, and some others which will remain nameless. Never before have I been so drawn to an action flick since the likes of Death Ring.Perry graced the screen in rare form this time.Never has his washed up, ungroomed self performed on this level. Well he had some amazing moments on 90210, yeah don't act like you don't watch it.If you appreciate Perry's constant whispering, then The Hiest will lay it down for you like never before. Also we were lucky enough to see Ice-T in yet another B classic. This man deserves some kind of recognition from the academy. He's on the cover of almost every new action release in the video store, he's in 90% of all B movies of today. But of course he won't wim an award from the academy. These are the same clowns that have kept Don Swayze and Chad Mcqueen out of the Hollywood "Spotlight."Well no matter how currupt the acedemy is Donny Mac isn't.I'm a give it to you straight.5 cans of...never mind you people wouldn't get it, so lets say 5 stars for the non stop Perry in The Hiest.Rent it, buy it, do somethin to let Luke know you still care.Well kids Don has to get going now, the bill collector is at the door and I've gotta sneak out the back window.See you real soon, no matter what your friends tell you.

3-0 out of 5 stars the city of angels has devils too
This is like a low-key version of Robert Altman's Short Cuts but without the ironies of Raymond Carver's writing or the brilliance of Altman's direction. Here writer/directors Allison Anders and Kurt Voss present a mosaic of groupings all associated somehow with the members of a British 80's rock band on the comeback trail. If there is a common theme it's probably that Los Angelonos are all manipulative and celebrity seekers. There is no apparent diivision of tone that would explain having two directors, and since it is the female actors that make the stronger impression, it's hard to know which one to congratulate. As the milieu is the music industry, the soundtrack can be justified, though occasionally it's obtrusive - you tend to look to see if someone has a radio on during their conversation to explain the noise. And in one instance some discordant sounds work against the truth of the confession of a rape. There is the odd funny line - a tight dress is described as a "glove", and a songwriter says how the music has to come from somewhere, it's not just waste (the actual word he uses is profane). The narrative provides one act of callousness which approximates the tragedies of Short Cuts, but there is no wrap-up to connect the scenarios for a satisfying conclusion. Anders/Voss provide an amusing cut from an implied blowjob to a carrot stick in a de-juicer, a laugh when a prodigal child raised by a hippie resembles a gothic alien, and a woman checking her makeup as a deliberate strategy to avoid seeing a couple embrace. A plot point about a man refusing to sleep with Beverly D'Angelo seems silly considering how beautiful she looks, and her cynical rich lady is probably the best performance in the film. This film was made after Ally Sheedy's career reinvention in High Art, and she is funny in her self-consciousness when dating. She can survive being imitated by another character, partly because the imitator is the one who commits the act of callousness, though her first scene on a massage table isn't the best introduction. Rosanna Arquette has some nice moments as a possibly cuckolded wife (her response to the hippie is funny), but her brother Richmond Arquette is all hunky method-shoulders and deep voice.
