Jack's former crew invade the town of Port Royal looking for a medallion that could rid them of their curse. They kidnap Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and her childhood friend, Will (Orlando Bloom), sets out to rescue her with the help of Jack Sparrow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Har!The best pirate movie since `The Crimson Pirate'.
Let's face it, has there been a more fun and memorable pirate movie since 1952 when Burt Lancaster and his silent sidekick Ojo swashbuckled bad guys, slid down awnings, and saved the girl?Go ahead, search your brain.

Editorial Review

What might have been a one-note family comedy becomes something more thanks to the comic brilliance of costars Nathan Lane and Lee Evans, as well as the distinctive, dark-fable look given the film by a little-known director named Gore Verbinksi. (Could he be the next Tim Burton?) Lane and Evans play idiotic brothers who inherit a house and all but destroy it in pursuit of one small, pesky mouse. The guys are always the butt of the sight gags--most of which are very funny--but their considerable powers as slapstick artists are also at play. The climactic scene at an auction was the funniest scene in any American movie in 1997, the year of Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Wiliest Super Rat You'll Ever See.
Nathan Lane was his usual self as he portrayed a chef in Club LaConte where he has a date with the mayor on the eve of the election.Alas, the mayor bit down on a roach and so the club was closed.Ernie retires with his brother Lars to the inherited family mansion, which they found in much disarray. When you're on top, the only place to do is down.Ernieis father has always needed a scapegoat, and he put his sons to the test.Because of a mortage on this old dilapidated house, both brothers are homeless and out on the streets on Christmas -- which was sad.Things get better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funnier And Better You Couldn't Get
I get a laugh out of people critiquing this movie on the basis of script, story, and comparison to "Home Alone," etc. It is just plain hilarious. Nathan and Lee are comparible to Laurel & Hardy! Need I say more? Who cares if I've seen others do some of the bits in this film, especially L&H? It's just fall-down funny from beginning to end. I've watched it over a dozen times and I laugh every time. It's a shame that the pairing of these funny men could not have led to a series of comedies as they used to do with Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello, etc. These two are far funnier than any of those past comedy duos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious flick. Family fun, or guilty pleasure for an adult.
I avoided this movie like the plague when it originally came out. I was suffering from both the film's and Nathan Lane's ubiquity at the time. That plus I never seemed to catch the flick in its entirety. Once I sat down and did just that, Nathan Lane and Lee Evans were perfectly cast for this roller coaster of a comedy that, once you get past the over the top story line and the fact that it gets a big hand by CGI (what, you thought they trained a real mouse to do all these stunts?), this movie is non-stop fun with just enough assistance from characters outside the main three, which of course includes the mouse. Christopher Walken particularly gets large laughs from a short amount of camera time (unlike "The Wedding Crashers"). Some great situations in this flick lead to huge laughs. If you have visions of "Tom and Jerry" or even "Road Runner", don't be embarrased, as this film draws inspiration from suchprograms, as well as classic TV and film comedies. If you avoid this flick for any of my aforementioned reasons, they'll be superceded by reasons you'll only know after viewing it. Lots of cameos by other familiar character actors add to the fun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tex-Mex-Riffic!
When you combine superstars Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt (Brajulia or Juliad Ropitts, I like to call them for short) what you get is cinematic magic at its finest and most magical.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fun South of the Border
This is a pretty original movie from Hollywood, where original idea are about as common as women who have NOT had plastic surgeory.Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts work well together in this crazy trip through Mexico in search of a fabled gun known as "The Mexican."With surprising twists and a solid story line this movie really delievers and if very entertaining.A must see if not a must own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - completly different from what I had thought it would be
I completely enjoyed this movie. It was so different from how I had thought it would be, but in such an amazing way.I thought it would be some sort of hollow, all about the action and/or SEXY relationship between the two lovely stars, but it was the total opposite of that. From reading some of the other reviews, I got the idea that the reason some people didn't like this movie was because it couldn't be easily classified under romantic comedy, or action.

5-0 out of 5 stars the American "Ringu" does more than enough to stand on its own
I know there will be some misguided souls who stumble into a showing of THE RING believing that it's either a film of Richard Wagner's famous operatic cycle, or has something to do with Hobbits. Needless to say, they will be in for a surprise.
5-0 out of 5 stars another October horror movie review
The reason I believe the Ring is a classic horror movie is because it disturbs me on a VERY personal, unexplainable level. You see, the main storyline of the Ring is the fact that this video tape has been created, and anyone who watches this video tape will die in some unusual, twisted manner. It's up to a reporter woman named Rachel to figure everything out. She's the main character of the film, along with her son.
4-0 out of 5 stars Classy horror
The Ring is that rare animal, a remake that actually manages to be as good as the original, although there are differences between the two films.

3-0 out of 5 stars mostly cloudy with a chance of showers

3-0 out of 5 stars Desperately Seeking Sunshine
"The Weather Man" is mostly cloudy, with patchy insights. Sudden bolts of tastelessness and profanity cause a rapid drop in overall outlook, creating a dismal forecast. And viewing the DVD extras is like asking the Chief Meteorologist to confirm why this is so; the writers/directors/producers involved in "The Weather Man" are all full of themselves, and not nearly as clever as they like to believe. Still, I've seen worse (haven't we all; *sigh*). As disasters go, at least this one isn't on the order of the magnitude of a "Katrina" or suchlike. But viewers looking for a breath of fresh air won't find it here.

3-0 out of 5 stars Forecast:Cold Front with a Major Depression
Rodney Dangerfield had a legendary refrain in his stand-up comedy act:"I don't get no respect."How truly does that come to roost in the life of the title character, Dave Spritz(er)(Nicolas Cage) in Gore Verbinski's 'The Weather Man'.All the mundane chaos of an alienated man come to sit on Dave as he endures the aftermath of divorce and the thrown food and drink from what could be the modern equivalent of the cheaper seats in Shakespeare's time.Yes, he's Chicago's weatherman, with all the screen charm, but none of the meterological credentials to be a highly paid man at the helm of one of life's easiest jobs.Besides being pelted by fast food and convenience store fare, he is trying to engage his two teenage children during his visitations. His daughter is overweight and wears suggestive clothing that get her labelled a "camel-toe" by her insensitive peers.Which brings us to his father (Michael Caine), whom Dave wishes to impress, a pulitzer-prize winning author who is dying of cancer. He finds out about the tauntings and seems to be one step ahead of his son in every aspect. (Dave is even trying to write a novel to earn his father's admiration.)Dave seems oblivious and incompetent in his bid to get any respect. He is a chief candidate to replace the weather man for a national morning show, 'Hello, America' with Bryant Gumbel. This is merely a make-over, a veneer to true happiness, and Dave knows it.He merely wants to put his life back together, to get his wife back and show his father that he's not just letting everything slip through his fingers. It is an exercise in futility. To add to his chaos, he tries to endear himself to his daughter by taking her to archery lessons and a Winterfest. Her overweight, underdog condition only make these outings a disaster.Worse yet, his son is becoming prey to a drug counselor who is really a pedophile. Some of the creepiest scenes show us how the predator tries to win him over. All of Dave's overtures to his father, his ex-wife, and his children show ineptitude and anguish that is clearly tangible. Some of the best scenes demonstrate Dave taking the helm and doing something credible to help his struggling children and his dying father.
