4-0 out of 5 stars Out on a Limb
This is a little flawed movie, but it has some hysterically funny moments. The two Jim brothers are on my top 10 list of comedic characters. We still joke about "Field Clothes" in my family.Definitly worth a look.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Out on a Limb"
While browsing at a local video store on a rainy weekend, the box for a movie called "Out on a Limb" caught my eye. Watching VHS motion pictures has been one of my most frequent hobbies since I was about ten years old, yet the movie was completely new to me. That struck me as bizarre, since Matthew Broderick is one of my favorite comedians. After substantial research, I discovered that "Out on a Limb" was not a box office success. When yours truly asked ten people what they knew about the 1992 comedy, seven of them didn't have the vaguest idea of what movie I was referring to. Following my rental and viewing of "Out on a Limb", I was generally impressed. It bared resemblence to some of the classic television comedies such as "Laurel and Hardy" and "The 3 Stooges". In other words, this film should be classified as a gagfest, full of little puns and laughers. Though not at all a fan of the classic comedies listed above, I found "Out on a Limb" to be refreshingly enjoyable. Broderick played a common civilian in the plot that was stitched together to include a middle-aged woman taking the civilian hostage and forcing him to do ridiculous things. My main point about "Out on a Limb" is that there is a storyline, and that does the job of making it into a real movie, contrary to many Adam Sandler and Chris Farley films which have no plot. Funny little jokes are included in basically every scene, and, the significance of each joke isn't important since the jokes go from character to character: the jokes will go from the kidnapper to the victim to the police and were initially from a little elementary school girl telling her class what happened on summer vacation. In conclusion, there aren't many clean and outright funny movies like this one out in today's society. It's crystal clear to me that the average movie buff has to have "out of this world" special effects sprinkled on top with sex and violence. This is different in every way, but it is one of the better comedies that I have viewed. Although critic's may disagree with me, I think that Matthew Broderick wasn't as funny 5 years earlier with "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because that seemed to be a tired movie with nothing to the imagination. If you're looking for an enjoyable movie that makes you think and makes you laugh, then "Out on a Limb" is a winner.

2-0 out of 5 stars Broderick murdered this movie
Francis Veber is one of the most popular frnch director. A lot of US movies were an adaptation of the french ones( three fugitives, the birdcage, father's day,la chvre and soon le diner de con). "Out on alimb" was his first movie in USA and Matthew Boderick destroyed it.Even in France, it's quasi impossible to find this movie. The only reasonto watch it is Jeffrey Jones. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An unusually funny French comedy
When this movie started, both my wife and I sighed - another movie with subtitles to read. But it quickly got us engrossed with the brilliantly funny concept - invite idiots to dinner.I'm almost inclined to start our own version in Hanover - but that is besides the point.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Comedies of the 1990's
One of the funniest films of the 1990's was a French comedy called "The Dinner Game."I saw the 1998 film out of boredom, and it was a wonderful surprise, instantly becoming one of my favorite movies.
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite comedy
While most of my DVDs end up collecting dust, "The Dinner Game" keeps being taken out the shelf. Why?Whenever I have a friend visiting, this is the one I am showing them! I had to buy it 5 times already: some of my friends liked it so much I had to give it to them.Do not be deterred by the fact it is in French with English subtitles. Many people who loved it do not usually watch foreign movies

4-0 out of 5 stars Idiot's delight
Remade less successfully as Pure Luck, the first of Pierre Richard and Gerard Depardieu's three teamings for writer-director Francis Veber, La Chevre is still the best of the bunch. Richard's the idiot accountant assigned to find a missing girl in South America simply because he's every bit as accident-prone as she is, while Depardieu's the worldly private eye who has to pretend to be working for him while really running the case and trying to keep him out of trouble. You can pretty much fill in the gaps from there, but that doesn't make it any less funny. Richard's pratfalls work not just because they're unsensationally directed rather than heavily telegraphed (one even takes place out of focus in the background) but because, like Clouseau, Richard's character doesn't know he's a clumsy idiot. In fact, he thinks he's the epitome of cool and control. But it's Depardieu who really makes the film, his underplayed exasperation and beautiful reaction shots easily the funniest thing in the film, especially as he realises with increasing fatalism that Richard's bad luck is starting to rub off.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just to have fun
It is a good movie, not a great one, but it still follows an original line. A CEO sends an employee -Pierre Richard -, to find his kidnapped daughter in Mexico. He has been advised to choose him because the employee has such a bad luck, as his daughter has, that he is forcefully going to fall in the same traps and, sooner or later, in the same place than her beloved child. Gerard Depardieu does not believe in such argument and has to make a team with the bad-luck guy. Together, they will made a great team. Hillarious, entertaining and fun !.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pan and Scan?
Although Kino's DVD is widescreen anamorphic, it appears that one is not seeing the whole film.According to IMDB's technical specs, the film was shot in Panavision, with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.Whereas the DVD has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1

I wouldn't call this a subtly witty movie, but there were times when I laughed out loud. There were other times when I thought it was predictable and the humor just too broad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daniel Auteuil is fabulous
I've been a fan of Daniel Auteuil for some time and look forward to each new movie. This one is very funny and entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very funny film!
This is an original film, plenty of laughs and smart situations. Possibly the finest comedy in years.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty funny French film about stereotypes and sexuality
The premise of this movie is that a competent but quiet and unexciting accountant (Pignon) is getting fired for no particular reason except someone has to go and he's considered expendable, being something of a zero in the eyes of his employer and coworkers. The opening scene says it all when he willingly is omitted from the annual company photo of the staff: he will not be missed by anyone.Pignon is very depressed and considering ending it all when his new neighbor on the adjoining balcony intervenes. The neighbor has an idea to help him: he should pretend he's gay and then his employer will be too concerned about "correctness" to fire him -- they'll bend over backwards to pretend they're not prejudiced. The neighbor (a retired industrial psychologist) doctors up some photos with the head of the accountant (Pignon) and the bodies of some gays entering a gay night club. These are sent anonymously to Pignon's boss, and quickly are photocopied and spread throughout the company. The president quickly decides it would be a very bad strategy to fire Pignon, because these days, they wouldn't want to alienate the gay market, particularly since they make condoms.
