4-0 out of 5 stars The film's serviceable but maybe not the best
Comic book movies is another trend in Hollywood that's slowly starting to die out. Like horror movie remakes and ultra-gory new ones to the CGI-animated ones, Hollywood always goes to what's the next big thing. Granted there is the occasional oddball that completely gets a cult following but you mainly see a trend and familiarity. When X-Men became a surprise hit, everything got bought up. Turns out though that Hellboy was actually a pet project for years by Guillermo del Toro, director of films like Blade II and the recent Pan's Labyrinth. Upon watching the film, you get the feeling that it's not outright terrible like Daredevil, it's just you were almost hoping it'd be a tad better.
4-0 out of 5 stars not perfect but good enough
Let's be blunt, the movie is, in essence, a little lumbering and flawed and has a rather odd climax. The beginning is overlong and vaguely too fantastical, but once you realize this is a very different world, a comic book really, and normal rules don't apply, it can be forgiven. In fact most of the flaws can be forgiven because of Ron Perlman and what he brought to the picture.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good but Not Great
An overall good movie. In a day in which every other comic book is getting its own movie, this is better then most.

5-0 out of 5 stars a perfect sequel in every way
Other than the explanation of where he (Blade) came from, who he and everyone else is, at the beginning, this film stands nicely on its own. for those of you that know the first one, then this opening explanation will be a little irritating (and a tad confusing, but it becomes clear later). The opening does smell strongly of franchise potential, being repeated in all the inevitable sequels still to come. Once past this though, we are lead through a massive fight and action scene that sets up the whole movie. and warns anyone who can't stand Hong Kong action scenes that they are probably watching the wrong screen.
4-0 out of 5 stars "Forget What You Think You Know, Vampires Exist"
'Blade II' is one of the few exceptions to the rule concerning sequels. This one rivals the first and posits the proverbial question "which one is the best?" My general rule is the original is always the best, but I accept my choice as subjective opinion and will posit the possibility that I might be wrong.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun; Excellent Action; Two Discset review
The story in this film is very ornate, and its not as gratuitous as some might want you to believe.Blade and Co are summoned to help the regular Vampires fight off a "Common Enemy", which is part of a story that has many twists and turns.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok but not great
This is a decent horror movie, but not among the best of the genre. On the positive side:
5-0 out of 5 stars Guilermo Del Toro's trailblazing entry intro the horror genre.
Cronos (1992) A vampire film without vampires? It's the story of Jesus Gris, akindly antiquarian who comes across a mysterious ancient scarab which grants renewed vigor and immortality to its owner, but all at a deadly price. Sensual in its overtones, sincerely moving and highly surreal, this is one of the most underrated horror films of the 1990's.
1-0 out of 5 stars Complete rubbish
Bad acting, predictable story, slow pace, nothing remotely horrifying or scary, not even its vaunted "atmosphere".This is third-rate and not worth your time, much less your money.Skip it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars missed opportunity
A film set around a few spooky moments, but in the end unchallenging in its script or situation. The opening monologue that questions the nature of ghosts seems more of a trick to sound philiosphical than to really delve into the nature of ghosts--the Dedvil's Backbone holds a lot of promise in its preview, but carries very little of it out in its execution. A more daring script would have brought a lot more to the whole ball of wax.
5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT GHOST STORY: STUNNING VISUALS!
First of all, "The Devil's Backbone," is a Spanish film with subtitles. Therefore, if you don't mind subtitled films [I prefer many of them to so-called American horror films] then you will like this film. I knew I was going to like it from the narration in the beginning of the film, and the stunning visuals that accompany it. The surrealistic and ghostly images, and especially the nuances that are in the film are terrific. This is a film that is more of a drama with the horror placed in it. However, the horror is more intelligently done than many films of the genre. The film itself takes place during the Spanish Civl War [1939] at an orphanage for children [boys] whose father's have been killed-in-action. And in a twist, the ghost is the main protagonist in the film.
4-0 out of 5 stars A mixture of horror , fantasy , war and melodrama ( you should taste it )
Plays like a Roman Polanski / Dario Argento film. It contains a great story that was translated to the screen with a stunning visual style and a blessed -special- cast and crew. The editing is the star in this fresh and witty film. There are plenty of good scares that will satisfy horror fans.See it if you loved DUMBO(just kiddin,) or THE 6TH SENSE and THE OTHERS(and that is for sure)or whatever .The best Del Toro film yet. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Mimic(1997)
Director:Guillermo del Toro 5-0 out of 5 stars Smart movie, goes over most reviewer's heads.
Mimic is an extremely smart movie that respects the intelligence of its audience, and that may be its greatest downfall.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Bugs
Not bad for a Mexican director I'm impress. This movie has giant mutant cockroaches living in the subways of New York their always killing people cause of them being attractive to human blood if a human put the cockroaches blood all over him they won't attack that human. These bugs are big all cause of an entomologist name Mira Sorvino and her husband. In order to kill all the bugs they have to kill the male he's the king. ... Read more
