5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Balanced Dramatic Comedy about Real Addiction
As an addiction counselor, who happens to be an addict and alcoholic in recovery, I found the film to a great depiction of various aspects of addiction. The satirical comedy scenes of the chanting were delightful and depicted the sense of silliness that most addicts or alcoholics see them as at first. The dramatic scenes of withdrawal and attempted suicide are very true. The need to change from an addictive social network to a sober support network is also true. I loved the horse scene at the end where the main character finally got a sense of spiritual victory when she finally submitted to the need for help. This is a film that captures the serious nature of addiction with a hint of humor in a manner that will allow the largest audience to gain insights into addiction and recovery. I am using this film in a family systems approaches in addiction course that I teach at a university. I also use the film in groups to serve as a conversation starter. Watch, laugh, cry, and learn.

2-0 out of 5 stars 28 Days... Then What?
Sandra Bullock plays a reckless woman, supposedly a writer, although this was only mentioned once in passing, who, along with her British boyfriend is constantly boozing and partying it up. She also seems to be hooked on painkillers. After ruining her sister's wedding, then stealing a limosene and drunkenly crashing it into a house, she (although this is not shown in the film), is sentenced to 28 days in rehab as an alternative to jail. In rehab, she meets some interesting characters with various addictions, and eventually starts to own up to her problems and begin her recovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars "I have enough stories, I want a life!"
28 Days starring Sandra Bullock, she was courageous to take such a challenging role like this. She plays an alcoholic who is placed in a rehab center for, well you guessed it 28 days. I think Bullock is at her best when she does drama, I love her comdies as well but she expands her talent and growth as an actress in dramatic roles. This film does have funny moments from time to time but it is mainly a hard-hitting drama. The scene where Bullock is in the withdrawal period of her addiction is real and heartbreaking. She is and probably will never be recognized as a gifted performer, she should have been nominated for an award, like the golden globes or something. 28 Days is quirky, spunky, and cute just like Sandy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Late Shift
An interesting timeline of events that transpired during the time of the Tonight Show Johnny Carson departure and the scrambling for the position that ensued afterwards. It is certainly a depiction of the ugliness of television power brokers that is seldom told.If you're a fan of latenight talk, and want a better appreciation of how the hosts got there, this is an entertaining watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kathy Bates is awesome!
This is a great HBO telefilm based on the late night talk show wars of the early 90s. The actors portraying Leno and Letterman give dead-on impersonations as their respective hosts. In particular, the Leno was able to capture the essence of unfunny smarminess that is Leno's personality. While these guys were great, the real star is Kathy Bates as the foul-mouthed control freak, Helen Kushnik! What a tour-de-force! She is at her nastiness while behind the wheel of her Mercedes shouting insults and cutdowns galore at uptight studio heads. Unfortunately the real Helen is no longer with us, so be sure to pay tribute to her memory by purchasing this now! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A funny movie that ends on a great note
I really enjoyed this movie. Looks are not everything and love can be found anywhere. This is a movie that you will enjoy just as much the second time.

4-0 out of 5 stars A light hearted romantic comedy
Only You is one of those movies that you will love or just like.Personally, I love it.Although not among Helen Hunts best work, it's still pretty good.Light and humorous is probably the best way to describeit. It's the kind of movie that you can just sit down and enjoy withouthaving to think about it, and believe me you will enjoy it.

The big-screen version of the hugely popular 1970s television sitcom takes an original angle: instead of simply re-creating the old series, the film spoofs it by presenting the merged family as blithely unaware that fashions and customs have changed in the '90s. Shelley Long and Gary Cole are hilarious as the ultra-square yet libidinous Mr. and Mrs. Brady, Christopher Daniel Barnes is an ideal Greg, and Christine Taylor seems practically cloned from the original Marcia. But director Betty Thomas (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Movie
I'm a not big fan of the T.V show.I like it, but the movie is much better.I also think Christine Taylor plays a better Marcia Brady then Maureen McCormick.I think she had no personality at all.
3-0 out of 5 stars great parody of the family that refuses to go away!!
I am NOT a fan of the TV show but the movie reminded me of just how dumb and nerdy the Bradys were. I loved Mr. Dittmeyer and how he was trying to put their house up for auction. The guy who played Doug Simpson was alright with his "french kiss" he planted on Marcia. Then lets talk about the appearances of Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Henderson, Ann B. Davis, and Barry Williams. This kid who played Greg was much better looking than Barry and his Johnny Bravo was so lame it was histerical!
4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the original series
I was and still never a big fan of the original t.v. series.I love this movie though.Gary Cole looks nothing like the original Father, but i think he is the funniest part of the show.Shelly long also did a good job playing Carol Brady.I was disapointed Tiger the dog didn't make a cameo appearance. I guess the movie couldn't be perfect. ... Read more

There's something intrinsically funny about tactlessly truth-telling talking animals. And there are plenty of those--and laughs to go with them--in this 1998 reimagining of Hugh Lofting's children's story. Murphy plays the doctor in question, a modern-day San Francisco physician who discovers that he can understand what animals have to say. Director Betty Thomas makes the most of an amazing voice cast for the animals, led by Norm McDonald and including everyone from Garry Shandling to Julie Kavner to Albert Brooks. The story itself is pretty slim--will the conscientious doctor sign his soul away to a greedy HMO?--but Murphy makes the most of it, often providing priceless reactions to animal voices only he can hear. This is such a hysterical movie... my husband and I love it... we had to buy it.Its a "must" in the house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy makes it work: animal lovers will love this
Set in San Francisco and not England, the American Dr. Dolittle is just as comical as the original British vetrinarian in the 1960's muscial. When Dr. Dolittle's animal telepathic skills resurface he not only is sent to a mental institution but he ends up having to save a circus tiger's life. This California rendition complete with scenic shots of the Bay Area, is a departure from the children's books, but succeeds in its key message: either be yourself or nothing at all even if the mass population thinks you're crazy. Not being true to yourself is the direct route to driving you truly crazy.

Give credit to director Betty Thomas for making the notorious Howard Stern, self-proclaimed "king of all media," into a nerdish but appealing media rebel who loves his wife and family. Even if you hate Stern's rude radio show, you may discover that the underdog charm of this warm, whimsical film (based on Stern's autobiography) turns you into a fan--for the length of the film at least. Stern delivers a winning performance as the clumsy college kid and aspiring disc-jockey-turned-demon-shock-jock, who becomes an unlikely hero as he battles station managers, network executives, and conservative "arbiters of decency" in the name of unfettered bad taste. Mary McCormack is fine as his understanding wife, Alison, and longtime Stern sidekicks Robin Quivers and Fred Norris acquit themselves nicely appearing as themselves. By the end of this smart, funny little film, don't be surprised if you find yourself cheering for the slob. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Love him or hate him, this movie rocks
I've been a Howard Stern fan for about 10 years, and now that he's on sirius he's the best he's been in 5 years. Now that I have listened to him on Sirius, and I hear the people on regular radio try to immitate him, there is just no comparison. Stern is the most entertaining personality, at least in the portland area, period.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Howard
If you are a Howard fan this is a must have in your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars He ain't the King for Nothing!!!
Woody Allen himself would be envious at the job that Howard Stern did in this film. Before I ever saw this, I was a huge fan of Howard's radio show, but I never thought that he could do even a hint of the majesty that he achieved in the film. I wish so much that he would do another film to prove that he is worthy of the legendary status that he has already achieved. Anybody got Woody's agent's phone number? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOST EXCELLENT MOVIE EVER
Sha na na ! Those are the three words I have to utter. I think that A Very Brady Sequel is one of the most hilarious movies ever to hit the cinemas. KEEP IT! Im telling you, youll never want to throw it away once you own it, its like a plate of amazing spaghetti, and nothing says lovin like a tummy full of alices spaghetti! But seriously guys, Marcia, Jan and Greg are the main characters in the sequel and they are so incredibly hilarious, there is no other word to describe it. Jan Brady is completely insane and psychopathic, worst than the original movie and this time around she doesnt have multiple personalities like Sybil. Marcia knows exactly what to say to everything Jan does, lines such as "Ill go first cause' im the prettiest" and "oh honestly jan" will have you and your families busting a gut (or two) (or three) at this cinematic classic. DO NOT GO ON WITH OUT THIS FOLKS it is once in a lifetime movie! Forget about watching your figure for your new boyfriend, forget out dillydallying, now is the time to get this treasure before it dissapears like bobby and cindy with a magic kit! IT IS EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
The Brady Bunch movies were extremly funny! I couldn't stand the TV Show but the movies are great! There not TO "bad" for minors. I highly recommend this movie who loves a great laugh once in awhile.
