3-0 out of 5 stars Bill Wyman is NOT retired!
You can't believe everything you read.Mr. Wyman was recently interviewed on a radio show where I live, and he is quite happily involved in a band he deliberately does not want to get big called The Rhythm Kings so he can stay close to his family's home and not drag them out on the road.He also likes to indulge in archeology when he's on his land, no doubt the same place he dug up some of the old, egomaniacal relics who are sorely misinformed about everything they write because they are so in love with themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only "Gimmie Shelter" Is Better Than This
This is absolutly, unequivocably the very best..."packaging" of the Rolling Stones in the early daze of video. The "plot?" Well, the now-retired Bassist, Bill Wyman dresses himself as a museum curator and sneaks into some generic museum's "locked-up exhibits" room.We wanders around some "exhibits," and finds an ancient computer which triggers the videos "She Was Hot" and "She's So Cold."The "She Was Hot" video alone justifes the entire "Rewind" video - watch, especially, for Keith Richards' experience with a torrid redhead. Bill views all-too-brief clips of Mick performing "Hey Negrita" and the infamous "Midnight Rambler-slap the belt on the floor" routine. He muses, "The old devil - 'ey, he must be around here somewhere!" He finds Mick trapped in a distinctly "Mick Jagger Pose," encased in a glass booth - and the scene where the discovery is made and Mick taps on the glass and begs, "Let Me Out" is absoluetly hilarious. Bill plays around on the computer some more, and after generating the "Neighbors," part of the "Emotional Rescue," and the "Waiting For A Friend" videos, he then generates a hilarious "interview" with the Stones, circa the "Some Girls" era.And once again, Keith steals the show, when he replies to an unctuous "interviewer," "I haven't had any problems with drugs, only policemen."Bill says, "HE must in in 'ere somewhere," and Mick sort of whispers, "I think he's in 'ere" -and when he and Bill pull the sheet off the "Keith" exhibit, the glass is broken (no Keith!), and Bill observes, "He must've gone out for another bottle!" - and Keef's "top-A chime on the guitar" riff triggers the beautiful "Angie" video.Further treats in "Video Rewind" include the Keef and Bobby Keys dropping a television set out of a hotel window, and then, we get our first glimpse of the infamous "airplane scene" from the still-unreleased "C********r Blues" video (are you listening, Robert Frank, and/or Allen Klien?)Whew! And that's just the tip of the iceberg (sort of)! To close, this is basically just a vehicle for "MTV-era" Stones' videos, but it's encased in a very, very funny, "laugh-out-loud" milieu starring Bill and Mick."Video Rewind" is no "Stones' story" kind of thing, as is the most excellent "25 X 5," it's just sheer escapism entertainment.Andit, along with Michael Nesmith's "Elephant Parts," are THE TWO videos for "party" (a'huh-huh-huh) purposes.Enjoy yourself!Tell 'em beatsuburban recommended these!

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best we'll get.
Outside of bootleggers' copies of the Stones video history, this is probably the best representation of their '70s/early '80s era that we'll get from a band not particularly known for being organized. While sadly lacking the great 'Start Me Up'-'Stones craggily arise from the ashes for another decade'- video, 'She's So Cold' is goofy fun, 'Too Much Blood' is Mick in vintage mid-life crisis, and 'Waiting On A Friend,' even abbreviated, will cut deep into anyone who's ever spent a summer in that most transient of cities, NY.Plus, the between video excerpts of Keith quotes and pieces of bearded Jagger and 'Hey, Negrita' perform the perfect magician's trick of giving us a faint glimpse of the enormity of the band's history.Buy it used and have some fun. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Let's get high and write some poems
I watched this movie in one of my classes and I loved it. I did not know that John Hannah was in it, and when I saw him in it I knew I would like it. It is a crazy drug adventure that is beautifully done. If you liked Fear & Loathing you will enjoy this movie, if not...don't bother. No, the movie is not historically accurate. I don't think they wanted it to be, but what they did do is make a great movie. The dialogue is great, and the acting superb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pandaemonium is a stellar modern day adaptation of the life of Coleridge and Wordsworth!
Linus Roache and John Hannah shine in their portrayal of Samuel Coleridge and William Wordsworth (respectively). This BBC adaptation may alter some factual matters, as this usually is inherant within the dramatic confines of cinema to smooth out rough edges and sharpen the story's singular focus on the lives of the two poets and their accomplishments while leaving a few minor details unmentioned.
4-0 out of 5 stars a well-told story
a visionary, moving and powerful film that truly brings magnificent life to the poetry and a haunting sense of feeling for the characters. The acting is superb and the visuals are stunning. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
If this film footage had the same music as the original album, it would be worth $100, but it doesn't even come close. I bought the album, on its first release when it came out. The Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton collaboration is worth more then the rest of the whole show, if it were the same as on the LP. But it's not, I know, somewhere out there, someone has this footage on film. If they had any respect for great filmed music, they would re-release it, the entire show and give the proceeds to Amnesty International. It would definitely make a bundle, including some from me. And, by the way, the copies of this VHS I have are the MGM/UA originals and they only have 1 out of the 3 songs that Beck and Clapton played together.

1-0 out of 5 stars Something Completely Different from the Original
This edited version of the original (out-of-print) Secret Policeman's Other Ball is disappointing. Some of the choicest bits (including Pete Townshend's incredible acoustic of "Pinball Wizard") have been omitted. 2-0 out of 5 stars Comedy and music all in a good cause.
The first, unaccountably legendary 'Secret Policeman's Ball' was in effect a showcase for the comic Old Guard - Monty Python, Peter Cook, Billy Connolly etc. - with only Rowan Atkinson's participation hinting at the new directions British comedy would take. This sequel is much more representative of the early 1980s, adding to the cast the likes of Victoria Wood, Jasper Carrott, Dame Edna Everage and the 'Not the Nine O'Clock News' team. The refusal of these performers to taint the dignity of a charity fundraiser (for Amnesty International) with humour or imagination results in another hour and a half of stale and tedious routines (Atkinson actually reprises the classical music mime from the first film). What's worse, the 'comedy' is far more frequently interrupted by an aging gaggle of musical hypocrites, most notably Phil Collins, a famous fundraiser for the ruling Tory Party, who, at the time of this concert, supported apartheid in South Africa, suppressed allegations of domestic police brutality and racism, and prevented enquiries into notorious miscarriages of justice (the Guildford Four, the Birmingham Six). The one truly funny moment, however, comes from a musical sequence, when Donovan appears and a heckler shrieks 'I thought you were dead!'Once again, the film is impenetrably lit, but I don't think we're missing anything. ... Editorial Review

Mickey Rourke is Butch "Bullet" Stein and the late Tupac Shakur is Tank in this stylish, Julien Temple-directed crime drama. Narrative is secondary to atmosphere in the violent, yet sensitive tale of an ex-con (Rourke) attempting to adjust to life on the outside. The minute Bullet emerges from the pen, however, the blood and profanity begin to flow just as freely as the references to Dali and Picasso (his younger brother is an artist). His drug problem is bad enough, but the biggest threat comes from the Kangol-sporting, eye-patched Tank, who intends to get his revenge for the eye Bullet took from him. Classical music and opera, meanwhile, bump up against hip-hop and Barry White. Despite the billing, this is Rourke's show all the way and Tupac's part is quite small in comparison. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent service!
Got here in record time and the DVD was in excellent condition. The movie sucked, but that was no fault of the seller LOL, whew, talk about yawn city, but I love Tupac :D

2-0 out of 5 stars A rambling empty film
For a film that's supposed to be ghetto based with Tupac as a star it has about 5 minutes of Shakur and the rest is simply a walkaround with Rouke's character walking around looking for a reason to get into the morgue or back in jail.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow..
Well first off, i must correct Amazon's Plot Synopsis...Butch does not Snort coke....he's just an H Junkie.Anyways, this is a great movie that shows how lawless and rough street life can be.Very violent, but that's kinda what you have to expect from a movie called "Bullet".Tupac's role isn't as prominent as i expected..but Mickey Rourke does an excellent job of carrying the movie.Unless you're offended by Violence, Drugs, and lots of F-Bombs, i'de definitely recommend this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Showcases the chameleon that is Janet!
Spanning ten years from 1986 until 1996, this DVD compiles all of the great videos of that period from "Control to Janet"

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect but they forgot one video
The collection is so good because it's finally all of the control, and Rhythum Nation videos. And the extended That's the way love goes video and the whoops now video. But they released it to soon because three months after this was released she came out with the video Twenty Foreplay and I really want to see that video.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful classic that established janet as a legend
and an inspiration for other r&b/dance divas who came afterwards. This DVD is all about the music, the messages and the dances expressed through the art of music video which was a relatively new form of marketing music at the time these videos came out. Each song had a signature choreography routine and is the foundation of what established janet as a superstar with a spectacular music career that is still going strong. Although she hasn't made videos as consistent as the ones on this compilations, her recent videos are also great to watch as janet explores with her sexuality, experiments with different images both in video concepts and looks and has fun dancing. It's like her videos are still autobiographical but we need the dancing back once again like displayed on this compilatoin though i understand she is an experimental artist who tries different things with her music and the art of music video. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Punk Is Dead
I rate this movie 8/10 or 4 stars. This movie is among the 1000 Best Movies on DVD by Peter Travers. It won 3 awards in 2000 as best documentary in Chicago, Sao Paolo, and the Online Film Critics Society Awards.
5-0 out of 5 stars God Save The Queen, Here's the Sex Pistols
The Filth and The Fury is a must have for any true Rock'n' Roll fan! The film charts the meteoric rise and fall of the Sex Pistols. You get the story straight from the band who, tell the truth and pull no punches. The film includes many rare performance clips and interviews. Although the band only lasted a mere 26 months, the film proves that the Pistols' music is just as relevant today as it was in 1977 (maybe more so!). If you're a Pistols fan, buy this DVD! If you're not a fan, buy this DVD (you'll become one!!).

5-0 out of 5 stars NO FUTURE FOR YOU!
Yes, I agree with all the others before me, a real documentary!! Finally something to watch other then the crap put out by McClaren.I loved this because it had the actually means of telling you what happened. With real interviews, even with Sid Vicious himself! Why should anyone have to buy anyother "documentary" when you have John Lydon himself telling you what happened? You have the actually televised interviews that made the pistols their "filthy"-selves. This tells the story from begining to end, with no bull. I see this as not only an important part of my Sex Pistols collection, but as a masterpiece. Because it tells the story from the mouth of the creators. Not the snakes. 3-0 out of 5 stars McClaren is a cheat
This movie is based purely on the idea that McClaren created the Sex Pistols...*crickets*...The Real answer, he didn't. He sat in a corner played with his thumbs, while the band changed history. McClaren, the narrator of the movie (not documentary), tells a "story" of how he led the Pistols into a huge trap and created them from their rubble. THIS MOVIE DID NOT HAVE THE CONSENT OF THE SEX PISTOLS! John Lydon (lead singer a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) is not even in the movie, and claims this movie as a mockary. This is just a fictional entertainment based movie. This Movie is good for a laugh at McClaren's idea of what happened, but should not be judged as the true story.

5-0 out of 5 stars filthy lucre is fun
While I abhor Malcom McLaren, I've always loved the Sex Pistols since the U.S. release of Never Mind the Bollocks....
4-0 out of 5 stars Long overdue DVD of Sex Pistols punkumentary

This omnibus directors fest brings together 10 different filmmakers making 10 different films based on operatic arias. Jean-Luc Godard is stylistically the boldest, Robert Altman possibly the most imaginative, Franc Roddam celebrates American glitz, and Bruce Beresford is the most sentimental. Nearly all the other filmmakers involved--including Nicolas Roeg, Ken Russell, Julien Temple, Charles Sturridge, Derek Jarman, and Bill Bryden--are (or were, in the case of the late Jarman) world-class talents, but you wouldn't know that from their murky participation here. 1-0 out of 5 stars Yikes, what a joke...
What the hell happened to these guys? I have not bothered to see the Stones since about 81, and watched this out of curiosity. Everyone says they're "better than ever", but... What's with all that junk all over the stage? Why do they need 3 keyboard players and a 5-piece horn section? Why do they need huge inflatable things, 10,000 spinning lights, and flashy pyrotechnics? It all makes the Stones themselves seem utterly ridiculous and unimportant, as if their music alone is not enough entertainment. No wonder their tickets are so expensive.
4-0 out of 5 stars Exellent audio; good video
THX audio is very good - in contrary to other reviews.Noise from audiences is at reasonable level and helps create the proper concert ambient. You must have good center speaker as it will be heavily drived at times. The song performances are strong and combined with good camera work.I'm not real familiar with The Rolling Stones but this dvd gives me a very positive impression.
2-0 out of 5 stars I have the THX version and it still sucks!
Like everyone else with any musical taste I love the Stones, and have been following them since I was fifteen and was hooked by "Satisfaction".That said, there seems to always be a propensity by whoever does the mixing for Stones' movies/DVDs to screw up the sound (maybe the Glimmer Twins themselves?).For instance, I have a number of bootlegs from the 1972 tour (Mick Taylor, decadence, hooray!), most of which are brilliant, full-bodied and powerful, then you get "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones", and it is comparatively anemic (actually awful) - guitars too tinny, the bottom rumble eliminated, Jagger too loud, and instead of sounding powerful, it sounds fragmented not like a real band at all."At the Max" continues this tradition (?).I have videotape of that tour and, again, it is great, but I can't even watch this DVD, they manage to make the Stones sound boring!!The good news is that on Four Flicks, at last, a really decent job of mixing has been done that actually does sound like a Stones' concert - major regret that they didn't learn to do this before Bill Wyman left the band. At least we have "Gimme Shelter", which in its newest incarnation comes pretty close (ever hear it in a theatre with a good sound system turned up loud?Magic!) But unless you must have everything, I would avoid this one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars for the music but 1 for the movie
I've had the soundtrack to this movie for years, the double album no less.It is an absolute masterpiece. The movie is a bit of a let down after finally seeing it.If you think of this movie as a series of interconnecting vignettes it works much better as the plot is very convoluted and meandering.3-0 out of 5 stars The first music video musical
Julien Temple had lots of experience making music video's before he made this film, and it shows. Basically, it is many music video's strung together to formulate a film, which is not such a good idea. The story needed much more dialogue and character definition. You'll watch the film and think it looks really neat, but you won't care for the characters. A few months after this film was released, Spike Lee had a hit with something called "Do the right thing". Spike's film is almost a copy of this, same plotline, same issues, but no music. Both films cover a hot summer heatwave where peoples tempers are on edge, race riots occur, etc etc. Why Spike got more attention, I'm not quite sure.

There's a movie musical somewhere in David Bowie's talent, but I'm not sure this is it.Don't be deceived by the cover, David's only a minor bit in this.Read more

Well first off, i must correct Amazon's Plot Synopsis...Butch does not Snort coke....he's just an H Junkie.Anyways, this is a great movie that shows how lawless and rough street life can be.Very violent, but that's kinda what you have to expect from a movie called "Bullet".Tupac's role isn't as prominent as i expected..but Mickey Rourke does an excellent job of carrying the movie.Unless you're offended by Violence, Drugs, and lots of F-Bombs, i'de definitely recommend this. ...
