5-0 out of 5 stars Agonized Poetry Visualized Exquisitely
Frida is luscious eye candy from beginning to end; so beautiful it could be enjoyed without sound. This is due to its subject, its star, and its director, Julie Taymor, who also gave us the astounding Titus.(If you have not yet seen Titus, do so before finishing this review - it is an art director's tour de force on a par with Brazil.)
5-0 out of 5 stars You can get lost in this Bio-Pic
You can immediately feel that you are a part of history and even when you know their (Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera) story you still get surprised amused and amazed. I have seen their actual work and this film brings it back. For people that do not know their story this is an excellent introduction. I found it interesting how Frida (Selma Hayek) and Diego (Alfred Molina) complimented each others personality so well from the beginning until where we leave them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Captivating Drama
Frida is a good film that has some brilliant moments of artistry throughout.Schoolgirl Frida Kahlo hidden from view, chides portly painter Diego Rivera for being fat just as he is about to have his passionate way with his nude art model.Salma Hayek does an earnestly stalwart job in portraying the title

3-0 out of 5 stars Taymor seems completely unschooled in the basics of lensing a film
Great acting, interesting direction of actors, and outstanding music, dragged down by director's rather starved competence as a filmmaker.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Odd Masterpiece
No words can describe the experience of this film; I don't like Shakespeare as a rule, though I have always admired his amazing plotlines; This movie is for both fans and those like me; The story is complex yet somehow simplified; It has by no means been dumbed down, but the visuals help to propel the words in a way that makes the story easy to follow and get totally absorbed into; This is an amazing film, filled with breathtaking visuals and tortured performances. Must been seen to be appreciated. But be warned---you'll either love it or hate it. It's just one of those types of movies.A+ on the scene in the forest....YIKES!! Great screenplay adaption...

5-0 out of 5 stars Titus Unbound
This is a spectacular presentation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, and it has made me eager to read one of the Bard's most overlooked plays. The performances overall are great, but I cringed at the Queen's two punklike sons and, although Alan Cumming is a great actor, he reminds me of Marilyn Manson and looks in this film like he does in the Fifth Element.Anyway, well worth seeing, and this may be the most clearly spoken Shakespeare I have ever heard.Anthony Hopkins is his usual masterful best. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Very Best!
This is the best production of ANYTHING I have ever seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant.
Oedipus Rex is probably my favorite of Stravinsky's works (which is obviously saying a lot), and Julie Taymor's production enriches the opera in every conceivable way.On one hand, it may not be totally true to the distance and austerity Stravinsky originally had in mind, but Taymor strikes a perfect balance with her reserved yet extremely artistic staging. She draws emotion from the work that is obviously present, no matter what Stravinsky may have maintained!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best in Opera
Frankly, I have never seen a more riveting opera. It's so wonderful and full of symbolism and imagery that will blow your mind! Julie Taymor's design and ingenuity truly rules the stage.
