2-0 out of 5 stars This just doesn't rate for me...
This Green Hornet serial is below average at best. The film wasn't in good condition when tranferred to tape; so, the poor quality detracted from my viewing. Whenever Hornet and Kato was in the scene, I found the "hornet buzzing" quite annoying after a while. As a baby boomer, I remember the Green Hornet of the late 60's (ala Van Williams and Bruce Lee, which I found myself on more than one occaision comparing this to.I know this isn't fair; but as a result, this one just didn't rate for me.I stop watching it after the 4th episode.

3-0 out of 5 stars good but grainy serial
This Green Hornet serial is good and definitely not boring. The chapters to a ceratin extent are complete stories in themselves. Unfortunately, the film was no longer in good condition when tranferred to tape. This is whatdetracts from the full enjoyment of the serial. Many parts appear blurredand grainy. If the details were preserved, this product would rate 5 stars. The next Green Hornet serial was more enjoyable to watch as the originalfilm appears to have been better preserved. But this is collector's stuffand secure one if you can. ... Read more

Well, it was only a buck ninety-eight...And, I am a fan of the bargain movie rack and of the bw western movie.Even in comparison, this one is extremely hokey. Our boys not only can't get the big picture, they can't even get the faintest glance of what's happening. And, I certainly can't say little enough about the park rangers. If there were a star in this one, I believe it was the bear.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Waste of Money
After collecting serials over the years, finally, I have found the absolute worst one I ever purchased.Granted, Universal Pictures was certainly not famous for their serials...the exceptions being:Tim Tyler's Luck and Radio Patrol, just to name two of probably six or seven standouts, but this is the rock bottom. In the hands of a William Witney, this could have been a fantastic work of art. With all of the possibilities in plot and scenery at their disposal, the directors have bogged us down with boring attempts at action, acting and serial music.... plusholes in the plot. What happened to all the set-ups we should have been entertained by at the various exotic locales? What happened to fast-moving adventure and action foundations in serials? What a waste!
5-0 out of 5 stars Jack Almost Prevents Pearl Harbor
This was from Zack Mosley's popular comic strip, one of many tuned into a serial, and long thought to be lost.Jack Martin is a daredevil pilot who gets involved in Far Eastern intrigue just before Pearl Harbor. As played by Tom Brown (1913-1990) Jack no longer has his pencil-thin moustache and seems younger, but Brown does a commendable job here.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The King of Serials...VCI Entertainment ~ The Adventures of Smilin' Jack (1943)"
VCI Entertainment and Universal Pictures based on the Zack Mosely newspaper comic strip present..."The Adventures of Smilin' Jack" (1943) (Dolby digitally remastered), a 13 Chapter cliffhanger from an action packed Universal serial era featuring an outstanding cast with Lewis D. Collins and Ray Taylor at the helm....story line has the Chinese and American governments mount a joint operation just before World War II, to prevent the Germans and Japanese from taking over the strategic island of Mandon...will our hero Smilin' Jack (Tom Brown) (and where is his famous trademarked pencil moustache) and Janet Thompson (Marjorie Lord) (later in TV sit-com "Make Room For Daddy" with Danny Thomas) be able to thwart the spy ring known as "The Black Samurai"....can Von Teufel (Rose Hobart) the German fraulein be outwitted and her identity be discovered as the leader of this spy ring, along with her head henchman Kageyama (Turhan Bey) ...with the help of Chinese Gen. Kai Ling (Sidney Toler) and Capt. Wing (Keye Luke) can we turn the tide and defeat "The Black Samarai"....remember Toler and Luke are on loan and must get back to their roles on the "Charlie Chan" film series which is the famous detective and his number one son....don't leave the theater until the final chapter is over and done with "Sinking the Rising Sun"....just remember double thrills, chills, mystery and suspense...hitting the bull's eye with excitement...don't miss a single spine thrilling episode..return next week to this local theater for another episode of action and adventure that will keep you thrilled until the next chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Green Hornet Strikes Again!
The company known as Video Treasures has done it. They have successfully raised a film from the dead A long, long, time ago a list was published called "The Lost Sound Serials" GHSA was one of them. There wasno hope to ever see this story again, until Anchor Bay makes a fine printbrought fromk Universals original film negatives. As for the movie, it'sgood but not great. Warren Hull brings more dignity to the role of GH. KeyeLuke is a passable Kato, but expect noBruce Lee, Kato rarley gets into afight. The story is full of action, adventure and heart stoppingcliffhangers. It's great fun for children and adults.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Green Hornet Strikes Again
Warren Hull replaces Gordon Jones in the lead role in this sequel to The Green Hornet.Hull, who is best known in his role as The Spider and who also played Lee Falk's Mandrake is a welcome improvement for Jones.KeyeLuke returns as the sidekick Kato.Y'know next to Clark Kent's glasses asa disguise, how could you not figure out who the Green Hornet and Kato was. A white guy and an oriental kinda stands out, huh? But, despite the lamesecret identity (you have to suspend some disbelief), this is a fair serialdespite it's Columbia label (sorry, but I have a real prejudice forColumbia serials). It contains a fair amount of action, a good cast andsome semblence of a story. If you want to view Hull's best work, however, find a copy of "The Spider Strikes" and avoid at all costs"The Spider Returns."

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of action
Fran Striker, co-creator of The Green Hornet radio show, was script supervisor and two actors, William Hall and Jay Michael were from the popular radio show. Hall was the voice of radio's Hornet for a time. Sowhat we see here is a first-rate serial that really tried to be faithful tothe radio series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Buck Jones oaters ever made
This is one of the best Buck Jones oaters that I've ever seen. I've seen many of his movies because he is one of my favorite B-Western stars (he and silver of course). What makes this one of his best is a unique story, fantastic action scenes, and some really great acting. In my opinion this was Bucks peak period (1935) at Universal studios. The quality of the Black and White film on this video is fantastic and what a treat to see the old newsreels of the day and a chapter from Bucks chapter serial 'Gordon of Ghost City" all before the movie starts. If you are a fan of B-Westerns like I am this should be a "must" in your collection. Buck also produced this one and did an exceptional job indeed.I'm surprised the Westerns Channel has never shown this one. Simply a B-Western classic. ... Read more

This film is known in Uruguay with the title "Los vigilant ley". I must say that this pelicula remembers to the personage of "El Zorro", since the action is developed in California and the personage also covers itself with a mask although "El is called here guila".Esta film that respects the very particular codes of the serial, it has very interesting moments. The moments of action and the inverosimil stand out that a representative of the Czar of Russia wanted to transform to California into a Russian colony. I believe that filamda is enough good to be a film of year 1936 and little budget. In definitiva:un serial worthy as all those of the Republic seal

... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheyenne (Lash) & Fuzzy, Legends of Silver Screen & Star
Lash La Rue, when I was 5 years old I recall having watched his serials on Sat. mornings at my Grandma's and thinking Lash and his whip were unique. "Law of the Lash" is in my opinion is a great cowboy heroes and villians B&W movie. It has a genuine plot and good ending. "Lash" uses his whip wisely instead of a 45 Colt against foes-disarming and capturing them instead. He is in all respects a great actor and this movie contains good actors throughout. "Fuzzy Jones" is a funny man and a great sidekick for Lash. Honestly this old cowboy flick is very entertaining and is as good as almost any old or new cowboy movie I have seen. You can say I have rediscovered "Lash La Rue" and appreciate his great roles. Lash and Fuzzy, I applaud you and I am one of your greatest fans wherever old actors go. No matter what some reveiwers say about this movie, I urge you to check it out yourself,... I thought it was great, technically and dramatically both. ... Read more
