4-0 out of 5 stars If Phillip K Dick had done Pinochio as a kids film...
It would probably be much like this; two everyman protagonists, themes of loneliness and isolation and yearning, a robot who is far more humane than his human counterparts...
5-0 out of 5 stars Short Cuts In the Casting Department
This was one of my favorite movies when I was six years old. I am no longer six years old, but I still find the use of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding out for a Hero" bittersweet and inspiring. This movie features Ben Jharvi, a loveable indian main character, who is in reality not indian at all but a jewish man named Fisher Stevens covered in brown shoe polish. Had I known this as a child I would have liked it nonetheless, although I probably would have found it slightly offensive.FIVE STARS.

4-0 out of 5 stars The sequel is just as good as the original`
I saw the original Short Circuit when it first came out and recently bought it on DVD.I enjoyed it just as much and found that age had not dimmed the humour.I had no idea a sequel had been made until Amazon emailed me to let me know (that is a great service by the way).Normally sequels are a letdown so I was in two minds whether to order it or not but thought, why not as the price was right.I am pleased that I did as again I thoroughly enjoyed it and can honestly say that the sequel is just as good as the original.Without giving away the storyline, there are some sad moments where I was amazed to find myself empathising with a robot!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Is this a good movie? Yes.
If you liked the "Alien Nation" t.v. series (and I can't imagine why you wouldn't), then you will like this movie because it finishes all of the questions that were left unanswered when the idiot network cancelled the series. However, I only gave it 4 stars because parts of it are a little disjointed and because of the four made for t.v. movies that they made after the series ended, this one is my least favorite. If you want to see an absoulute fabulous movie about the alien nation series, then you should watch "The Udara Legacy".It's REALLY cool. Also, there were several books that were written to continue the stories (some of them from the writters who worked on the series), and of those I HIGHLY recommend "Extreme Prejudice". I always wanted them to turn that book into a made for T.V. movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating premise; poor execution
"Dark Horizon" has an exceptionally well-written plot, but the characters leave something to be desired.Aphassno, sent to Earth to retrieve the slaves, is a fascinating character even if he ocasionallymoves his head like Michael Myers. However, the symbolism gets VERYheavy-handed at times and I was forced to fast-foward.Cathy and Sykeshave no chemistry, and the time wasted on developing their relationship isincredibly boring. She and Aphassno are far more believable as lovers andI wish their affair had been more developed.Still, it is a fascinatingmovie and worth your while, especially if you were a fan of the show.

I loved this movie. It would be neat to have aliens living here on earth ... Read more

This is the most horrible movie i have ever seen, or course not counting 2 or 3. Now disney has put out some good stuff but this is just crap. Editorial Review

Shaquille O'Neal plays a relatively recent DC Comics hero named Steel, an Army weapons engineer who dons a steel suit and does battle with various bad buys, including a weapons dealer (Judd Nelson) whose market is criminals. Sooner or later, somebody had to give Shaq the opportunity to finally prove he doesn't belong in movies, and this silly 1997 action movie--in which O'Neal could not possibly look more wooden--does the trick. First of all, I apologise for reviewing a... gnnn, can't bring myself to even write it but.. must... a VHS version of this film. Ughh. Video - what WERE we thinking? But I have to - because Steel has never been released on DVD (I collect comic book movies and TV shows on DVD, so I had to buy a copy of this on DVD). And you know what? I would bet my entire Spider-Man collection that it'll never see the light on DVD either. Whoever owns the rights to this is probably keeping it quiet through sheer embarrassment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very 70's production is this Hulk show
I watched the pilot ep recently for the first time in over 22 years! The computers Dr.'s Banner and Marx use are very crude and dated looking. The docs also use lingo about mitochondria when, back then, almost nobody in America knew what that was. Today in this society of dna fingerprinting and the genetic search for our origins mitochondria is almost a regular part of the american vocabulary. The clothes the people wear in this film also scream 70's. Plaid pants and leisure suits!
4-0 out of 5 stars Inside the mind of David Banner
This is what The Hulk was all about. The subject matter of these two movies present the imagery that you see when David Banner "flashes back" to his past throughout the series. The Pilot episode obviously being the beginning and the "Married" episode where Banner is married a second time and loses his wife once again.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE INCREDIBLE HULK: RELIVING MY MEMORIES.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK WAS THE MOST POPULAR TV SERIES EVER IN CBS TV HISTORY. FOR ANYONE TO EVER SAY THIS SHOW WAS NOT POPULAR IS IS AN INSULT TO FANS AND TO IT'S STARS. THIS WAS AND STILL IS THE GREATEST TV SERIES EVER TO COME OUT OF A SILLY GEEKY COMIC BOOK AND INTO THE LIFE OF 10 YEAR OLD KID AND ON MY NUMBER 1 SHOW EVER WAS AND STILL IS TO THIS DAY A GREAT THRILL. Editorial Review

Writer, producer, and director Kenneth Johnson has completely reworked the story of Dr. Banner and his mean, green alter ego, but this new rendition works quite well in its TV format. After failing to save his wife from a burning car wreck, David Banner obsessively delves into research exploring rare adrenaline surges that give people superhuman strength in extraordinary situations. Discovering that the secret lies in the surge of gamma rays from sunspots, Banner purposely absorbs a massive dose of gamma radiation in his lab to try to improve his strength. The unanticipated result? You know--when he gets mad, he transforms into the giant green dude known as the Hulk. Unlike the subsequent TV series, this original film focuses on Banner's anger and despair over losing his wife rather than his being an unlikely hero on the run. It provides for many compelling moments as he seeks to comprehend his confusing metamorphosis, and as the Hulk becomes a threat to the unspoken romance between him and his supportive colleague and confidant, Dr. Elaina Marks. The late Bill Bixby delivers a warm, sympathetic performance as the tortured Dr. Banner, Susan Sullivan is believable as the brave, level-headed Dr. Marks, and Jack Colvin provides the sleaze factor as pesky tabloid reporter Jack McGee. Forgiving its '70s look and vibe, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Give it 2 thumbs up 4 the pilot movie
I actually loved the show and the TV pilot that once aired on CBS and soon got back to TV like on SCI-FI when I 1st catch the premiere of the back-to-back episodes. Yep this is not something to disappoint, it's a great movie that shows a real side of Bruce Banner (whom Stan Lee, the founder of Marvel Comics) changed to David 'cuz Bruce was too homosexual. Reason why they did that 'cuz of the reason of the name. So they add it along the TV series from '78 until it's demise in 1982. So sad Bill Bixby is not here. He was a good actor and definitely my all-time favorite stars. He's such a good man and I miss him deerly. Wish if he would've stay long. But long period short, it started off when David Banner begin losing his wife from an automobile accident, soon transformed into a doctor along with his associtate Dr. Elaina Marks (played my Susan Sullivan), begin testing people 'bout their health and what they feel about stress, then started doing a lil experiement of gamma reactions probably known as gamma rays which I'll say, and once he leaves the office, he soons gets into his car and when he's get mad, he transformed into the 7-foot green tall man known as the Hulk (played by Lou Ferrigno). And before the concl. he comes back until Jack McGee (played by Jack Colvin) wanted him 4 murder. Y'know David Banner would be real serious here about what he's doing. To me he could be a Dr. Jekyll while the Hulk could be a Mr. Hyde. Similar to the book I read from Robert Louis Stevenson. This movie is such interesting to me b/c of the action, the effects, and the mixing to the set. Wish Hulk fans would be proud if this was a classic. I recommend this who wants to feel any difference to it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Hulk gets real
The Incredible Hulk was made more realin this movie and the subsequent series. The loss Banner felt and theguilt he felt from his wife's deathmade him do what any man would want to do, except for the disastrousresults. I grew up watching the Hulkat first because I liked the color green, and thought it was cool thatthe Hulk was big and strong. Therewas, however, more realism with themovies and the show. It showed us the pain and anger that Banner feltnot only in the death he wasn't ableto prevent, but also in having tohide himself, control his emotions, and his search for peace, to rid himself of the monster inside.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great adaption of a comic book character
I was fortunate enough to catch this on the SCI-FI channel, & its following episodes, Kenneth Johnson did a graet job giving the Hulk much depth as well as David Banner & at times you actually feel for his unfortunate situation, an ordinary man leading an ordinary life, suffers a tragedy(loss of his wife in a car accident which left him powerless to do anything about) as a scientist he discovers that others have had similar experiences, but was able to save their loved ones, & he begins a quest to discover these miracles & associates them with gamma rays, which he exposes himself to in an experiment gone wrong, unbeknownst to him, his DNA is altered at the first sign of anger or fustration & it eventually leads to the death of a fellow scientist for which the Hulk is accused of thanks to nosy newspaper reporter Jack McGee, David Banner's world is forever changed as he is believed killed also, which begins a quest of finding a cure for his alter ego, thus sets the series in motion, the series that followed were good most of the time, some were bad, but most were good, one of the best was the episode titled "The First" which let the viewer know that there was another, as with "V" Kenneth Johnson created a show with style & substance. ...
