A Great Story & A Great Movie
The Story of O comes to DVD 27 years after its introduction in theaters. As the film begins, O (Corinne Clery) finds herself abruptly dropped off by her boyfriend (Udo Kier) at a kind of brothel or dungeon, where she is to be educated in the ways of sex and servitude. Whippings, chains and handcuffs, easy-access outfits, and of course near-constant sex training sessions quickly fill the day. In the process of proving her love for him, she gives up everything, even agreeing to be branded. This story is the best selling erotic movie of all time.

Tiresome.
THE STORY OF O attempts to defy the wisdom of the 10 Commandments of Hot Movies and fails.I won't bore you with all of the Commandments, just #7 "Thou shalt not make a hot movie with an entire cast of non-hot actors."
Thestory of O is controlling, submissive, and painful.
The story is actually kind of interesting, and the cinematography is rather creative at times. Most of the acting is adequate, and surprisingly effective. The plot in some places was boring, but the psychological aspects of the characters and the locations are stunning. It really a movie you can think about afterwards and besides that its erotic. The atmosphere is very intense and the nude scenes have a great photography. Bondage and torture of naked women surely was a bit too hard in people's stomach back in 1975 and it was banned in several countries. This film makes you wonder if such woman as O could really exist.

Interesting Film, better than what you can find now days
An Adult, not rated, film
Still an enjoyable one
This is the first of the three original Emmanuelle movies, the ones starring Sylvia Kristel. There were lots of imitators, most ranging from bad to worse and beyond. At the time of the first Emmanuelle, though none of that had yet happened - please hold that happy thought. Perhaps those three weren't high art, but they're generally good entertainment for adults.

Still worth a look....
I last saw this movie when it was in the theaters back in 1984. As I predicted, I forgot most of it, so it was kind of nice to catch up and watch it again. Funny, it didn't seem as entertaining the second time around, but it's still worth a look.

I love this movie!
I'm so glad to see this film is out on DVD. Brings back great memories of when I saw it in the middle of January in Chicago while staying there for a week with the folks on a business trip.I just had to see this film after Roger Ebert tore it apart during his film review segment on the nightly news.I think I was only about 14 years old when I caught a matinee showing in a downtown Chicago theater.The film itself is nothing but alot of fun to watch and Brent Huff is a total hottie!Lots of nudity, weird bondage outfits and basically a soft porn version of "Raiders of the Lost Ark."The musical score during the opening and closing credits is nice but the dialogue is badly dubbed. The acting is horrible and the actress that plays the Queen has got to be seen to be believed!Total cheeseball of a movie, but loads of fun to watch if you're just in the mood to have a good time.Everyone that I know that has seen this film has loved it. (except for Roger Ebert)

Potentially very hot, but sucked instead!
I generally like some of these French-comic-books-turned-into-movies because they're usually pretty erotic.Jane Fonda's role in Barbarella comes to mind.This Gwendoline series definitely had the POTENTIAL what with the scantily-clad women-in-bondage theme and the scenes involving Gwendoline with her dominant girlfriend.

Rekindle romance
Rekindle romance with this movie. Very hot.Not for children..
Bastardized the social theme of DH Lawrence
DH Lawrence nearly ruined his career when this book was published. There were so many shocking social themes and commentaries inherent in the story. Sadly, the film version played up the affair and it resulted in a soft-core nearly X-rated motion picture. Perhaps it is time for a remake that is truer to what DH Lawrence wanted to say about the folly of love and desire.

Lady Chatterley's Lover
One of the most important elements of this film is the sense of real life sensibilities it captures. The qualities of longing and frustration are beautifully captured by Sylvia Crystal as Lady Chatterley, the wife of a dashing but complex husband played by Shane Briant with combinations of bravado and self centeredness beneath a handsome figure who is logged into his class background and behavior patterns allowing little room for natural love and responsiveness. While Lady Chatterley holds firmly at first to her devotion to her husband she cannot withstand the raw sensuality of Nicholas Clay as the gardner on the estate. Nicholas Clay likes to show his butt and I am reminded of another film, "Evil Under The Sun" where he tittilates the viewer with his rather voluptuous posterior while walking on the beach.This aside, he more than captures the "real world" personality of his class and attitudes juxtaposed with Lord Chatterley's strict upperclass ones.I felt the "eye brows" of Lord Chatterley were a bit "over stated" in make up and this had the effect giving him a drama queen demeanor and somehow a little "campy."But all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the film for its showing nudity where nudity seemed perfectly called for without teasing and overly gauzy effects which is sometimes such a bore . Maybe the film is not what one would call a "religious experience" but why should all films be that anyway.It is beautifully filmed and the production values are first rate and it makes a sometimes complicated story line believable without too much contempt for the viewer, especially with D. H. Lawrence's reputation.Above all I felt it captured the anguish and fear which contibute to decisions that drastically alter the people that make them.
