5-0 out of 5 stars How Did They Do It?
What a fantastic close to an unbelievably good story.I own all 3 Lord of the Rings movies, and am happy to have them in my collection. If you like action, fantasy, or medieval content, you should own this trilogy. The effects are seamless, the acting is well done and the story keeps you involved at all times.
5-0 out of 5 stars The quest is complete!
Without a doubt,Return of the King is the best movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.I loved how they summed it up with the climactic struggle at the end with Frodo putting forth every effort to destroy the ring! Also putting in superb acting was Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. For those of you who haven't seen this film, you should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can watch...
I can watch this over and over and over again! It is an excellant movie!! A wonderful end to a great trilogy. Peter Jackson gives all he has to each movie so that they are all just as good if not better than the previous one. AND it goes along with JRR Tolkein's book. Even though there are parts of the book that aren't in the movie what do you expect if he had put it all in there these movies would have been at least 6 hours or more longer than they are I am sure. (I may be exaggerating a tad.) But this one is highly reccomended!!! BUY IT!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome series
It's rare that a modern film can achieve the status of masterpiece... it's even rarer for a trilogy to accomplish that feat. The fellowship is the begining of what would become a modern day classic trilogy. My only complaint is the movies aren't long enough! There are some elements of the book that were not used. All in all Peter Jackson has done a wonderful job. I hope he directs the Hobbit.

This is the follow-up to The Fellowship of the Ring. Unfortunately, the only interesting character in the first film, Boromir, is dead, so we are stuck with the others.
5-0 out of 5 stars This sophomore effort shines brighter than the first.
Every great adventure story worth telling has a solid hero - someone who puts others before themselves and uses their talents to do their best at keeping the forces of evil at bay even if it means the loss of life and limb. At its core, this movie has eight such heroes and each one lives up to the call. Peter Jackson was faced with a great challenge but he managed to pull this off real well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peter Jackson's early brilliance.
I saw this film years ago when it had its major theatrical release.Years later, it remains as powerful. The wonderful, odd vision of Peter Jackson (Director of LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) is put to use in this story of two young girls whose fantasy world runs amok.
3-0 out of 5 stars View at your own risk
Heavenly Creatures is based on a true story about two teen girls who committed murder. Many other reviwers have given detailed descriptions of the plot so I will forego that here. After some basic research subsequent to watching the film, it seems that Peter Jackson was quite faithful to the original story. There were certain simplifications needed to fit the story into a two hour movie but that is to be expected. The story told in this movie is a disturbing one.The two girls are highly disturbed and engage in increasingly bizaar behavior leading up to the murder. If you are interested in a character study about highly erratic and disturbed individuals then this movie will surely be of great interest to you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Creepy Movie
I'll have to admit that my reason for wanting to see Heavenly Creatures was prurient. Anne Perry is one of my favorite mystery writers, and I was interested to see the movie Peter Jackson made about the murder she and her best friend committed as teen-aged girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie
This extended edition of the movie is great. My favorite extended scene is saruman's death. The theacterial version was 3 hours and 20 minutes this extended edition is 4 hours and 10 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars An eye popper
So, eve though it is a long one, I dont mind sitting down and watching it. It was never boring to me, and I think it is the best of the three. This series of movies was very well done by the books. As this does not happen very often, I was impressed.
5-0 out of 5 stars All the Questions Answered
With 50 minutes of film that was not in the theatrical release of Return of the King, this director's cut should satisfy just about everyone. Two important scenes, the murder of Saruman by Grima Wormtongue and the healing of Eowyn by Aragon, eliminate the gaps.In addition, the meeting between Eowyn and Faramir actually takes place so we are not wondering why they are together at the coronation of Aragon and a tense scene where Frodo and Sam (dressed in armor as Orcs) are almost discovered by the enemy. There are smaller restored scenes that, in retrospect, help to explain some details. For example, why does Gandalf appear without his staff during the battle of Plennor Fields?Because the Witch King appeared and shattered it!This is not an essential scene but it adds detail. Many battle scenes were included and gave the puffy-faced Orc commander who declares "the time of the Orc has come" some additional exposure, and we know who ends up killing him.

Could a title be any more direct? New Zealand maverick Peter Jackson made a splash (well, more of a splatter) with this film debut, a slapstick gross-out comedy about an alien fast-food franchise that turns a small town into a cheap source of meat. All that stands in the extraterrestrials' way is the Alien Investigation Defense Service (yes, it's a tasteless gag), a bunch of would-be Rambos who take on the aliens with axes, rocket launchers, and chainsaws. Jackson mines vomit jokes, dismembered corpses, and brain-spattering gore for over-the-top laughs and succeeds with inventive low-budget effects, crack timing, and sheer exuberance. Not bad for a film made on weekends with homemade props and a bunch of energetic mates. 4-0 out of 5 stars Gory, Campy, Gross and GREAT!
It's almost hard to imagine, the now legendary, Peter Jackson (Dead Alive, Braindead, LOTR) acted in and directed this film. In Jackson's film debut, he delivers a slapstick comedy, gross out full of, guts, brains, vomit, gore, gore and more gore on an almost nil budget
5-0 out of 5 stars the film that launched a career
bad taste is not your average run of the mill zombie flick. actually the zombies are from outer space. peter jackson made this with a bunch of his friends and locals, and it is low budget. there is lots and lots of blood and gore and violence, for fans of dead alive, this is the perfect companion. the acting is good, the soundtrack is upbeat when it is there, and everyone involved you get the feeling they had a good time making it. the special effects are very good both for the day and also with the budget they had for the film. if you have ever liked any zombie movie in your life, then check out bad taste, it will definitely leave a good taste in your mind when you are finished. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A PLEASING AND ENJOYABLE HORROR COMEDY!
I recommend the film "The Frightners" to anyone who likes a little bit of fun in their horror. The film is not too serious, and there are many comedic elements thrown into the film. Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox) portrays a psychic detective, who makes his living by using his talents of the recent and not so recently departed to scare up business. His abilities came when he and his wife were in a car crash. A crash in which she died. However, there is more to her death than he realizes. There are a number of people being killed, and they are being marked with a number on their foreheads. Bannister's wife was also found with a number on her forehead when she died in the car wreck. More importantly however, a serial killer executed many years ago also marked his victims in this manner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Original, funny, and at times scary, a new take on horror
I was pleasently surprised by this movie when I saw it on the bigscreen, and now I'm happy to have it in my collection.Michael J Fox's role as a paranormal investigator/ghost trapper with Hired Help is just a very funny concept.Chi Mcbrie's character I thought made this movie, great comic relief.Jake Busey did a decent job at being a bad guy.I have seen this probably 8 times, and still find it funny. It holds me if I find it flipping through channels.Nice one to have in the collection. I only own the original version, worth investing into directors cut to see what has been added.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dead Alive- GORE FEST!!
I got this movie for my little 13 yr old brother and his friends to watch and it did its job. I saw it and it was a horror. This movie has the most blood, guts, gore and comedey of any horror movies out their.
5-0 out of 5 stars Most ketchup used in a film
This is one of my favorite movies (but then again, I like dead baby jokes). If I remember correctly, the back of the DVD says how much ketchup was used in filming and that it was the most ever. But don't let this throw you off...it's not about the gore and cheesy effects...it's a black comedy about relationships while being a very clever spoof on horror films. If you've got a strong stomach and love laughing, this movie's for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dementedly funny and gorey
I really thought i'd be in for a more dark, gorey film, but..I wasn't...Instead, it is a crazy, demented (British?) film about a different breed of zombies not like the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD type.

Peter Jackson proves that if gory is funny, then excessive gory is downright hysterical. As our hapless hero wades through an ankle-deep puddle of blood and entrails, brandishing a lawnmower like a portable Cuisinart at the climax of this zombie-fest, you'll either be screaming with laughter or fleeing in disgust. Timothy Balme stars as the shy mama's boy Lionel, whose controlling shrew of a mother (Elizabeth Moody) starts rotting away, literally, with a vague supernatural disease. Mother dies but refuses to stay down, rising as a flesh-eating zombie infecting everyone she bites. Lionel tries to hide her in the basement, but the victims keep piling up and finally break out when Lionel's blackmailing uncle (a grotesque, leering Ian Watkin) throws a party in the house. It's snack time as the guests become undead hors d'oeuvres and rise again as hungry soldiers of the new zombie army marching on Lionel and his girl Pacquita (the lovely Diana Penalver). New Zealand goremeister Jackson pulls out all stops in this truly outrageous sanguinary comedy, from gross-out gags of oozing puss and rotting body parts at a formal dinner to slapstick antics as Lionel tries to keep his flesh-hungry mother sedated during the funeral to the final Freudian showdown between a now-monstrous mother and the newly liberated Lionel. If you like your horror with a sense of humor or your comedy with gristle, then wade through this taboo-busting bucket of blood. Read more

Editorial Review

This dryly funny mockumentary about the lost work of a pioneering New Zealand film genius is probably one of the best examples of the faux-documentary genre. In fact, it was so successful that when it originally aired on New Zealand television, hundreds of viewers bought the premise hook, line, and sinker. If you didn't know any better yourself, it's entirely possible you might be duped into believing the extremely tall tale of one Colin MacKenzie, an ambitious filmmaker who made the world's first talking movie (years before

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, the story of Colin McKenzie and the birth of filmmaking as we know it
At first I thought Forgotten Silver was a joke, but I changed my mind when I saw that one of the greatest of contemporary film historians and critics, Leonard Maltin, had contributed his insights to the story of film pioneer Colin McKenzie. It's an amazing story of how an inspired and dedicated film genius, located in New Zealand, anticipated and invented so many of the film techniques we take for granted now. It's hard to comprehend how this one man gave us such things as steam-powered projection systems, the first tracking shot, the first example of a talking movie, the first color film, the first close-up. He was naive, yes, but with the naiveté of the innocent. The first talking movie, for instance, featured Chinese day laborers speaking their native tongue. Mr. McKenzie, regrettably, neglected to provide sub-titles. While New Zealand movie goers stayed away in droves, the purity of his intent is beyond question.
5-0 out of 5 stars So detailed in its forgery, I tried to google Colin McKenzie with no success
I originally caught the last half hour of "Forgotten Silver" when it aired on IFC 4 years ago.Eager to see the entire film, I scanned the program guide to find the next showing.Although it had an inconvenient start time (1:00 a.m.), I stayed up and watched the whole thing.I was mesmorized by this tale of family, struggle, love, loss, and redemption. Why had we never heard of Colin McKenzie, clearly a film pioneer in many areas?
