4-0 out of 5 stars FRACTURED FAIRY TALES REDUX
TWISTS OF TERROR is an import from Montreal TV and its quite good for one of those anthology horror movies. The first tale, "The People You Meet" brings us Jennifer Rubin and Carl Marotte as a couple on their second honeymoon, who are forced off the road by a speeding sportscar. They get a lift from a doofus who you can tell is not what he seems. They pick up another hiker (who just happens to be a friend of doofus) and they kidnap Marotte and Rubin and take them to an abandoned cabin. The twist in this one isn't obvious, but its results are.Nice little tale. The second tale, "The Clinic" is a little less effective and drawn out.You can pretty much figure out what's going on once Nick Mancuso goes into this out of the way clinic.Mancuso does an okay job, but it's too predictable to have a twist. The final story, "Stolen Moments" focuses on the lovely Francoise Robertson who plays a lonely woman who picks up a guy (Andrew Jackson) in a bar and then meets him and his friend for a night of wild love in a house they are "sitting."The twist in this one is pretty shocking and had me fooled.4-0 out of 5 stars Twists of Terror?Hmmm...
Well, the very first time I saw this I thought it was OK - 2nd was a little bit better.. Well, as described below the theme in these spooky ookychillers is that every story has twists in them.. 1st story was prettygood, some ov the parts were a bit obvious, though... 1st story is justreally based on total hatred between this one couple, and it makes usomewhat think ifyou too are being cheated / hated on, heh..2nd story -This one fat guy tries to leave out ov state on business or something, buthe has to put gas.. Anyway, he does, but this one really really mean dog(is he from hell! ) has other plans for him, after repeatedly biting himviolently, he runs into a rather lonely, obscure hospitol, but are thesedoctors really doctors!Oooo.. 3rd and last story - Quite possibly themost surprising, I didn't see this one coming at all.. This is basicallyabout a very lonely / depressed young woman that is in desperate need ovsomeone to be with, finally she ends up meeting this one tall guy at a bar,and BAM! They start seeing each other - But at the end this guy reallyscrews up bad, and I do mean bad... The main girl on here is a hottie! Idon't wanna ruin anything so... I will stop here, and let u see this for urself.. Pros : Nice acting, great atmosphere, pretty-hot girlie in laststory, nice sex! :)Cons : Not the most original movie out there, ok whocares? Anyway, this flick is well worth ur time!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE !
Excellent film. In each story, I had no idea what was going to happen next!Unique Stories of paranoia, fear and danger, plus sex!The last story " Stolen Moments " makes you wonder..... Highest Ratings! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK movie
After reading the other review for this movie i would have to agree that it's a little unrealistic...but that's what makes the movie so much fun! And the guy that plays the killer is gorgeous!! Actually, i was switching around the stations on TV and only started watching the movie because of how cute he is...So, maybe the acting and plot aren't that great, but have you seen Center Stage? I bought this thinking that M. Caine could do not wrong. I was wrong! The film is terrible. Nothing redeeming... the photography is bad - stilted [looks like home video], the dialogue is trite, the actor walk thru the parts and even St. Petersburg is not covered until the finishing credits... if you last that long.... really bad... save your money and if you want to see a good film of this genre buy The Ipcress File or any other M. Caine film....

1-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE MAKE IT END!!!
There are no words to describe how AWFUL (!!!) this "movie" was from beginning to end, but let me try anyway so as to give people a fair chance to avoid it and thus try and prevent their day/evening from being ruined: the film deals with a shipment of plutonium that goes missing in the early post-soviet era.Michael Caine's character heads a private investigating office in Moscow and sets off for Saint Petersburg after his employee informs him of his girlfriend being stalked by thugs...

2-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm....
.....at the beginning of the film the death of some prominent business people made to look accidental gives the viewer the feel that the Berkeley character--young, on the move, up and rising PR star for a rental car company--is going to be a cutthroat aggressive bee-actch. What happens? She falls for a skuzzo who wasn't really invited to the office take over party and GOES WITH him to his other mistress's house. (WHAT!?!) The mistress catches them in her bed about to do the do and the mistress attacks them, causing Berkeley to ka-bong her on the head with the Maltese Falcon like sculpture, thus killing her. The skuzzo then goes on the shakedown because the murdered mistress is wife to the president of a company the rental car business is getting ready to merge with...which normally would make a mildly entertaining TV Movie of the Week, but Berkeley sleepwalks through half the movie and oogles like a frightened deer caught in headlights through the other half of the movie. See only if you're a true Berkeley fan. At least Showgirls was knowingly unserious and played for camp value...

4-0 out of 5 stars the broader version of the Chronicles
I watched Martian Chronicles the 3 part series on TV and it was great and entertainment(wise) better than this. However this takes place on more the timescale concieved by Bradbury, over not 8 years but 25.Starting with the "Expeditions" and youthful astronaughts(although a bit comical) and ending with A much older crew and the many inhabitants of Mars. The series on TV in 1980(mini series) was better by a long shot and the reason was, as most mid-late 80's sci-fi serial films,(and Outer Limits in the 90s) canada film studios and companies had a heavy influence and these were too canadian in atmosphere for my taste, gothic, but not the right sort of "gothic"."Thirteen"(as in "-I-" made this") and other groups were probably responsible for "the Fri 13 The Series grimness and classic-atmosphere-without style" attitued I got from these, but they are still good to watch.Particularlly Glover's semi-comedic performance as "The Last Man on Mars" and of course the psycologist(or psyciatrist) who thinks "HE" is part of another Man's hallucinations. And "Believes HE" is seeing what the "illedged crazy" man is seeing but does stubbornly(typical psy) not beleive even what "HE" is seeing!Martians! Those two are the more lighthearted and to me entertaining of this collection.Incodently, The mini series does not contain "Usher II" or the "seeing is believeing" episode.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low budget film but worth watching
An extremely low budget and cheap film. It is divided into 5 mini stories based on Bradburys Martian Chronicles. It is no where near as good as the original Chronicles starring Rock Hudson.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap and unnecessary
I remember the "Martian Chronicles" with Rock Hudson, Maria Schell and others and I'm still waiting for a re-release of this mini-series. I bought "The Martian episodes" instead and it'snothing but a cheap and unnecessary remake. Sci-Fi Fans will maybe enjoyit, but there is certainly better stuff on the market ! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE
I bought this movie and it was a waste of money.I'm serious. If your a Dean Koontz fan, stick with the books. His books are great but I seen some of his movies and they aren't so...um good.

2-0 out of 5 stars wow what a wierd movie
I love Dean Koontz and have all his books. The movie was wierd. Not like the book. I loved the book and it freaked me out. the movie was just wierd. The acting was not that good. It lacked conviction, passion and realism. Man, they sure could have done a lot better then the end result. Still movie was ok. The boy in the movie was sadly to say, poor acting. But then again, so where the adults, even the bugs were poor acting - lol. I gave it a 2 stars for effort. Unless you love Koontz and collect all his stuff, you may want to pass on this one. LOL.

2-0 out of 5 stars fear shouts. terror whispers
This adaptation of the Dean R Koontz novel ranks higher than terrible because of the Koontz ideas, more than the pedestrian direction by Douglas Jackson. Jackson's failure to encapture Koontz' attempt at gothic horror is demonstrated by the frustrating resolution which demands one goes back to the source material for clarity. The screenplay by Anita Doohan loses the connection in the book between Victoria Tennant and Jean Leclerc who tries to kill her twice before the police in the figure of Chris Sarandon appears to protect her. Tennant and Sarandon are competent, if uninspired choices to lead us into Leclerc's past and the mystery of his childhood, though the heightened playing of some of the supporting players helps - Jackie Burroughs as a former madam, a necrophiliac mortician, and a satanic bookseller. The title is represented by LeClerc's mode of speech, though the staging of his exhibitions of aggressiveness make him appear less threatening than presumably intended.Read more

Henry Smovinsky (Eric Roberts), Smoke to his friends, is a cop with problems. His ex-wife, whom he hasn't seen in 16 years, has been found dead on the street outside her apartment, an apparent suicide in a fall from her balcony. But there's more than meets the eye here, when he gets custody of his son Adam (Jason Tierney), and suspicion of murder turns to the son and then to Smoke himself.Soon it comes out that the ex-wife was a high-class hooker, with many influential clients and first-class protection from the police force. With no one to trust except Officer Maggie Furness (Eliza Roberts, Eric's real-life wife), who was assigned to the investigation but kept about as much in the dark as Smoke, he runs his own investigation, which involves healing the wounds between him and the son he's never known. This gritty, realistic thriller never overstretches for effect, but keeps a solid atmosphere of street-smart seediness throughout, with a finely measured performance especially by Eric Roberts. 4-0 out of 5 stars I too was pleasantly surprised...
I don't do martial arts films. However I did enjoy the first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which may be why I liked this film.It wasn't a great work of art by any means, but it was cute in it's own ways. (Can one use the word "cute" to describe a martial arts film?)A bit cartoonist that doesn't take itself too seriously, it has a kick butt female "good guy"(Julie Lee), an over the top "bad guy" (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and the "in between guys" (Michael Madsen and his crew) that makes it all work.Julie Lee's fighting skills are good, as were most of the fighting scenes from this novice's eyes.Even Hatch was throwing some decent punches.I would watch again (and have).

4-0 out of 5 stars "I Said I Was Sorry..."
Nothing deep or challenging here, just a fun good guy, bad guy martial arts film with plenty of action and enough humor to balance the violence and bad language.
5-0 out of 5 stars I agree great acting by some of the older actors

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wrong Woman
When a woman is framed by her boss for murdering a co-worker, it is up to her to prove she didn't do it before the cops find her and her boss can create fake evidence that she did commit the crime. This is a wonderfully entertaining film where nobody can trust each other. I was riveted the entire time I was watching this. Nancy McKeon is excellent as "the wrong woman" and I would recommend this film to anyone who loves to be on the edge of their seat for a long time. The perfect thriller!

1-0 out of 5 stars Lame, contrived nonsense. Don't waste your time like I did.
Most movies ask for a suspension of disbelief; this trite piece of nonsense demands that you buy into a plot full of two-dimensional cardboard characters whose actions and dialogue are so full of clichs, magical coincidences, and stereotypes that you can predict everything before it occurs -- when you aren't laughing at how bad it is. After agreeing to assist a crooked D.A. by pretending to be an eyewitness in order to convict a mobster, our heroine finds her life in peril from not only the nasty, evil mobster but also the mean old bad D.A. himself. Her apparently phenomenal talent as a make-up artiste somehow equips her to disguise herself AND to become a great actress who can fool everyone, including detectives and lawyers, AND to hatch an implausible plan to fake her own murder and frame the crooked D.A. for killing her. She tricks a rugged, honest, handsome maverick cop into unknowingly assisting her, but -- darn the luck -- they fall in love. Her "ingenious" scheme depends on various other people improbably doing, saying, and thinking exactly the things that she anticipates, and even placing themselves precisely where she wants them to be at the time she wants them there -- and miraculously, every other human being involved in this ridiculous film does just what she needs them to do. Gosh, it's almost as though it were... oh, I dunno, scripted? I watched this movie on a certain cable movie channel that caters to female viewers, and although I generally do not care for the often-derogatory term "chick flick," this movie is a BAD one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great performance
Nowhere in sight was a turning point in the career of actress, singer and songwriter Helen Slater. Besides to play the leading role it was in this movie that Slater had the first oportunity to display her musical talents, writing and singing Detour, the song you hear in the opening and in the end credits. It happened almost by chance. Nowhere in sight was shot in Montreal and Slater always rent a piano, when goes on location to compose new songs in her free time. Detour was created during the work in the movie and recorded in a small studio Helen found in the city. When the movie producer Kimberley Berlin listened to the recording she asked to use it in the movie. That was 3 years before the release of Slater first music album One of these days. You will also listen to Slater playing piano e even cello in the opening sequences. But Nowhere in Sight also displays Helen Slater talent as an actress in a very demanding role. Displaying a variety of emotions that go from sadness to dispair, from happiness to confusion and fear. So if you want to get acquainted with the multifaceted talent of this very beautiful lady this is the movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars Who is Helen Slater?
This movie is so awful I don't even know where to begin. OK. Let me start. First of all, who is this so called Helen Slater who delivers this awful poor performance in this movie. She plays this woman who recently became blind and began dating Eric (Andrew McCarthy). Slater who plays the character of Carley delivers a performance that is sooo predicable and just plain boring. This movie is so unrealistic that I don'e believe it should have ever been made into a movie. Eric played by Andrew McCarthy of course was great, even though I don't think Andrew McCarthy is very convincing playing the bad guy. Who would believe he would be the bad guy in this movie, after looking into his baby blue sparkleing eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Andrew but this part just was not, and I stress not right for him. Overall I do not reccommend this movie to anyone who is an Andrew McCarthy fan. If you are don't see this movie because you'll be highly disappointed. Besides he only came out in the movie for a total of about 20 minutes. Before spending 12.99 + tax, rent it first. The only reason I gave this crappily made movie two stars was because Andrew McCarthy appeared in it, not for the movie it self. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

5-0 out of 5 stars MOTHER FIXATION
The most compelling aspect of this made for Canadian TV thriller is the adoption angle.William McNamara plays a young man who was given away by his mother at birth and unfortunately has developed a psychosis in seeking revenge on her for abandoning him.We first meet him as a little boy who sets fire to his current set of parents.Next, he's a bright, apparently indisposable executive assistant to stockbroker Donald Sutherland. We know things are a little weird though when McNamara brutally attacks the man whose job he took in the elevator and then makes it look like he is the victim. It soon dawns on us that McNamara has other sordid plans in the offing. We learn that Sutherland's second wife (his first died in a car accident) gave away her first child as she was only seventeen and wasn't ready for motherhood.Put two and two together and you'll see where the film is heading.
4-0 out of 5 stars nurtural killer
This Canadian TVM directed by Douglas Jackson is beautifully lit and features an unusual idea for the serial killer genre. We are told that studies show that violent criminals who have been victims of child abuse are often adopted children, so this thriller takes a huge swipe at the adoption industry by making the protagonist an abused adopted child who wants to direct his violent energies towards his natural mother. Even though this premise indulges in the preposterous assumption that women who give up their babies for adoption do so as an act of selfishness, it still gives the material a queasy fascination, even in spite of a screenplay that's only freshness is in the perverse twists of fate that serial killers always seem to prosper from.Jackson's casting is mixed, with a bearded Donald Sutherland remarkably more animated than usual, but Lesley Ann Warren miscast. Her little girl voice and fine-boned neurosis are more suited to single women in distress or girlfriends at best. Jackson errs greatly in casting William McNamara, since we know him as the Copycat killer, and because McNamara isn't too subtle. Since he plays his murderous intention all the time, we're amazed that the others can possibly begin to trust him, though his obvious line readings actually score an unintentional laugh when he yells "Happy Mother's Day" in a non-celebratory moment. 4-0 out of 5 stars matricide is suicide

Editorial Review

3-0 out of 5 stars a so-so movie
