5-0 out of 5 stars Nanny, Nanny Hating Bright!
Director Curtis Hanson has filmed many remarkable films: "LA Confidential" (1997) is his most awarded film, "8 Mile" (2002) is a very good movie and "In Her Shoes" (2005) a very successful incursion on a "Family Conflict" genre movie.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Hand that Rocks the Cradle
I liked this movie. It has plenty of suspense and a pretty good plot.DeMornay plays a wicked villian.Annabella Sciorra does a half decent job of simulating an asthma attack.I recommend for anyone looking for an entertaining drama/thriller.

4-0 out of 5 stars With a touch of editing, this could have been spectacular
In 1992, when the movie was released to theaters, I was pleasantly surprised by a thriller that was filmed nearly entirely in the daytime with very little happening during darkness or rain. There were no tricks here, as there have been in so many similar films. This was the real thing, and you know that the directors and producers had that in mind. If they didn't, well, they were just lucky - but that's not likely.

Editorial Review

Meryl Streep tried her hand at action films with this Curtis Hanson film and proved herself quite credible, bringing emotion as well as the willingness to kick butt. She plays a suburban mom and former white-water rafting guide who is taking her family on a raft trip for summer vacation. But overworked Dad (David Strathairn) can't make the trip, so she and her son leave without him--and walk right into trouble. Killers on the run (Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly) abduct them and force Streep to take them down the most dangerous stretch of river to elude the cops. Hanson understands how to pace and construct this kind of action fodder, but it's strictly formula stuff, enlivened only by the depth of Streep's portrayal and the viciousness of Bacon's character. 3-0 out of 5 stars Soap Opera in Pittsburgh, PA
Wordfest is taking place at the University in Pittsburgh where the resident professor of history is involved in all kinds of shady deals. His star student has written a novel about the teacher and his foibles and is an expert on the unnatural deaths of movie and television stars. The English teacher who is host of the yearly meeting has a fur-collared jacket which Marilyn Monroe had worn one time for one of her marriages. It is confiscated along with a big car by someone pretending to be James Brown at the party. It was a complicated and acrimonious affair in that awful winter weather, really bad -- rain, sleet, snow on the ground all at the same time.
5-0 out of 5 stars One Wild Weekend
Let's face it:Writers are oddball, quirky, mega-eccentric creatures, yet this delightful comedy takes writers--and writing--to a whole new dysfunctional dimension.WONDER BOYS tells the story of how a handful of extremely interesting characters must suddenly make some very formidable decisions--all over the course of one breathless weekend. 4-0 out of 5 stars Wonder Boys
I love this movie! Entertaining to watch and great performances.

Not many movies are better than the novel they are setting into pictures. Prime example is Eastwood's Mystic River, which is far better than Lehane's novel. LA Conf. is my number two in this list.
5-0 out of 5 stars Is that how you ran the good cop/bad cop?
L.A. Confidential is a phenomenal film.Originally overshadowed by Titanic, it has come to be appreciated as a modern classic.
5-0 out of 5 stars A KNOCKOUT !
It took me several recomendations before I decided to take a look at this film. At first with reservations upon learning the leading roles belonged to a couple of unknown Aussies, one of them (early on) even gives the impression of being nothing but a wimp. Let's just say by the end that impression had changed more than a bit and when the police captain says "I wouldn't want to be him for all the whisky in Ireland" I was in total euphoria.

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated, creepy and edge of your seat film.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Elvis has left the building!"
This movie really creeped me out the first time I watched it, which was when i was about ten years old. now that i am thirteen, it doesn't seem that bad, but it still gives you a case of the creeps. One of the scariest, worst situations you could possibly be in is being framed for murder. you can't go to the police because there's no evidence that points to someone else and the person would probably kill you and your family/friends.
2-0 out of 5 stars "The Fight Club" but without the mystery or excitement!
Michael Boll (Spader) lives an average but boring life. He dreads his forthcoming marriage and he's picked on by his colleagues at the office. Things turn around when he is nearly beaten up at a local bar only to be rescued by the mysterious Alex (Lowe). Their relationship takes odd turns into violence and crime as Alex teaches Michael to be more aggressive in his life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Guttenberg Thriller
This is indeed Steve Guttenberg's best drama. Being a huge fan of Hitchcock's works and other suspense movies like "Along Came a Spider" and "Body Double", I found this movie pretty good. I personally think Steve is a decent actor, just limited in roles suited to him. This role was suited to him. Purest may not be impressed by this movie, but those not so demanding should find this worth their while.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hitchcockian thriller
A married woman (Isabelle Huppert), while at the apartment of the man she's having an affair with, witnesses an attempted murder outside the window. Leery about going to the cops, the boyfriend (Steve Guttenberg) does it for her. Thus begins all kinds of twists and turns and complications in this taut and entertaining thriller. Some of them are pretty implausable, but before you have time to sort one out the movie snowballs into the next one. Huppert double crosses Guttenberg, of course, to protect herself, and Guttenberg eventually gets help from another woman (Elizabeth McGovern), whom he ends up with at movie's end. There are lots of Hitchcockian touches: the premise itself from "Rear Window" and a stabbing scene at the ballet from "North by Northwest." Not a bad movie at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly nifty little thriller!
I first saw this movie with the lowest of expectations, and boy was I surprised! Steve Guttenburg is surprisingly (there's that word again!) well cast as an ordinary Joe Schmo caught up in a series of increasingly tangled events brought on by an attempted murder which takes place outside of his bedroom window. Isabelle Huppert and Elizabeth McGovern are enjoyable as well in two very different femme fatale roles. I know that people like to compare this movie to Hitchcock films, but frankly, who cares? It's the old apples and oranges analogy. The Bedroom Window is a slick, enjoyable thriller worth looking for! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eminem gives us an entertaining masterpiece!
There are many aspects to 8 Mile that I loved! There were no stupid plot twists. The relationships are believable! Eminem plays Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith who has a hidden talent in rap & his friends contuniously incourage him to pursue a rap career. It's hard for Jimmy at first cause he is white & it's hard for him to find someone to be nice to him in that business. It is a cruel world at times & 8 Mile captures that quite well! Brittany Murphy is quite sexy in this role & the best part, unlike Jessica Simpson, she can actually act & she makes her performance more believeable than it could be! Now, 8 Mile might not be everyone's cup of tea cause it is a drama, there is lots yelling & it is a very dark movie. But for me, that's what it makes interesting! I'm not a fan corny movies & this movie is far from that. Eminem is one fine actor & I question why he didn't do more movies because this is one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a while! Rappers in general, I find, tend to be better actors then pop stars/actresses just because the movies they do tend to be darker without the cheesy plot twists & 8 Mile is definitely worth your time!

3-0 out of 5 stars trivial pursuit
go read my comments on "hustle & flow"; substitute name "eminem" for "terrance howard".tra-la-la-la-la ...
4-0 out of 5 stars Eminem
A bit of a padded feel that was only natural given the simple story that had to be stretched to two hours. The part that felt most real to me came early. I attended a black university in a ghetto of Tampa, but then I bicycled home to the Busch Gardens neighborhood. Kinda like wading in the shallow end of the pool at will while Eminem was in the deep end. That's one thing I got from the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars THEY'RE LOSIN' IT ABUSING IT!!!!
I LIKED THIS MOVIE. THE FIRST, TIME I SAW IS WHEN I WAS A KID. I HAD SAW IT IN THE STORE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT. IT STARS YOUNG TOM CRUISE SHELLY LONG AND OTHER STARS I LIKE THIS MOVIE IF YOU LIKE CLASSIC 80'S MOVIES THEN YOU WOULD DEFINITELY LIKE THIS MOVIE AND THEREFORE, I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO LIKE ROAD TRIP MOVIES TO BUY THIS MOVIE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun, made even better by bright and talented cast
I first saw Losin' It on HBO in the early 1980's. It seems to have retained a certain something that demands repeat viewings, at least for me. Despite the "name" stars, Tom Cruise (in a pre-Top Gun role) and Shelley (I should have stayed on "Cheers") Long, this fun roadtrip film to Tijuana, Mexico is stolen away from them by Jackie Earle Haley as the sex-crazed, would-be Frank Sinatra, "Dave", who is on a quest for the mythical aphrodisiac, Spanish Fly and John P. Navin, Jr. as the capitalist kid, "Wimp", (my name is "Wendal"!!), who finances the trip in exchange for coming along to buy cheap fireworks to sell back home in California at a premium. One of the funniest scenes in the film takes place during an attempt by "Dave" to buy Spanish Fly in a Tijuana pharmacy. There are all the usual teen sex comedy gags, language and humor and some is unfortunately, quite tasteless and there is some brief nudity, as well. But, the bright and talented cast still manage to shine through and overcome things that might have diminished the efforts of other performers. It's definitely male, adolescent humor and not for all tastes or for those who are easily offended. But, all-in-all, it is a very funny film and is light-years better than other teen sex comedies, such as "Porky's", with it's forgetable cast of mostly unknowns who stayed that way. The exceptional cast of "Losin' It is this film's strength and they carry it. There is also some nice 1950's and 1960's music. I can personally highly recommend it to those who are looking for a fun film. ... Read more

Have seen this movie many times - it only gets better.Suspenseful and engaging, it will keep you guessing, and it's good to see Kevin Bacon as a bad guy for a change.Well-acted by Meryl Streep and Kevin, this is great for a rainy Saturday!
