5-0 out of 5 stars Why is this movie so underrecognized?
I haven't seen this movie in a while, but I absolutely loved it as a child. Just a warning, though: I've never cried so hard at ANY movie. I actually thought my heart would break for these cartoon animals. But while I'm not sure why such tragic moments are necessary for kids to endure (this is why my sister refuses to watch it), it remains one of my favorites from Disney.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Underrated Disney Classic.
The Fox and The Hound was made in a time when Disney animation had lost some of its luster . It was one of the last films of the old guard until the transition to the highly popular animated musical "The Little Mermaid". Probably because of this it was not as highly regarded as many of the early classics and the post Mermaid period.
4-0 out of 5 stars Correct screen ratio! This movie IS FULL FRAME!
O.K. I can answer the many questions about the correct screen ratio of THE FOX AND THE HOUND.

5-0 out of 5 stars How About a DVD?
"By the Light of the Silvery Moon"... A GREAT film, but why is this Warner classic, along with its companion picture, "On Moonlight Bay," not being released as DVDs???

5-0 out of 5 stars Sequel as good as On Moonlight Bay
By The Light of the Silvery Moon is the sequel to On Moonlight Bay, and virtually as good. Both movies are an effective blend of comedy, music, and nostalgia. All the same characters are here, Doris Day as Marjorie Winfield, Leon Ames and Rosemary De Camp as her parents, Billy Gray her little brother Wesley -- the character based on Penrod Schofield of Booth Tarkington's books -- Mary Wickes as the cook, and of course Gordon MacRae as her fiancee just returned from fighting World War One.
5-0 out of 5 stars Doris Day and Gordon MacRae return for MOONLIGHT BAY sequel
Following the huge box office success of ON MOONLIGHT BAY, plans were immediately made for a sequel, reuniting all the key cast members and using the continuing 'Penrod' stories as the plotline.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic movie
I saw and enjoyed this classic George C. Scott when I was in the Navy and a motion picture operator on one of navy's submarines many years ago. I can recall being asked to run the destruct the town reel over and over by all hands. Great VHS movie but should be on DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars The NY Times Blew It!
The day after the Flim-Flam Man debuted in New York City in 1967, Bosley Crowther, the critic for the Times, panned the movie and Scott's acting in particular. In the decades since, the people have spoken! This is one of the best yarns ever put on film, in my opinion.A morality tale told with humor, poignance and great acting.Grab it.Watch it.Enjoy it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE KICKS!!
Well, i figured it would be much eaiser to use the kids reviw-less time spent, more wrighting! A message to everyone who has not seen this movie - Your missing out on a classic. The move is about a girl named carly beth ( Wich in itself is creepy) who is allways getting picked on. Chuck and Steve, two classmates, are allways playing jokes on her, trying to scare her. Which by the way allways works. Carly Beth Wants to get eternal revenge on them for thier crule tricks, so, she goes out to find a scary mask. One day she stumbles into a novelty shop and basicly steals a mask. By the way, allthough this movie was made from smaller childeren, I found the mask scary. The artsits did a great job. It really looks real! Im a teenager and i was scared! Well, slightly anyhow. The rest of the plot developes into a halloween night of revenge and the creepy thruth about the mask at the end.
5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!
That movie was cool! The mask was reely creepy it was proboly the scaryest goosebumps you should watch it its #1!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good!
I realized something today, this one was better than The Haunted Mask II! I've always liked The Haunted Mask II more than the first. But now, I like the first movie better. It's so cool how the mask becomes one with you. Buy the movie! I can't see why anyone wouldn't like this movie (Except for my brother). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Williams at his finest (and funniest)
Why Robin Williams can't get an Oscar nod for his specialty (comedy) is beyond me.He's been nominated numerous times, and actually won, for his dramatic roles, but to me Williams will always shine much brighter when making us laugh. To me, arguably his greatest role was that of Daniel Hillard, a very irresponsible married man, father of three, whose wife Miranda (Field) finally has enough and puts him out.In an attempt to see more of his children he disguises himself as Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, an elderly woman who is hired to take care of the children while their mother is at work.William's is genius as he frantically switches between Daniel and Euphegenia, trying to, through Mrs. Doubtfire, win back his wife and deter her from Stu (Bosnan), the new man in her life.Hysterical from start to finish, `Mrs. Doubtfire' is a sure fire crowd pleaser.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Doubtfire
This movie is really good and funny. The actors did a great job. If you like comedies, you should definately check this movie out.
5-0 out of 5 stars More please!
Robin Williams should stick to making films like this and stop trying to pander to the chattering classes by making stinkers such as Good Will Hunting. Mr Williams as the calamitous Mrs Doubtfire is both hilarious and moving. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare Opportunity
I had the opportunity to tape this wonderful movie when it showed on the Disney channel in the mid to late 80's.I honestly watched it so many times by myself and with recruited fans that I wore out the tape.I remember going as a young kid to watch this movie in a small theater in my hometown and it stayed there for many weeks because of the its growing popularity. This is one of those rare occasions when an old film outdoes many new releases even with it's primitive technology.Millions of kids and adults alike will love this movie. Disney get on the ball and release Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scared silly at the time!
I was a pretty young tyke when Disney ran this movie, and it REALLY made an impression on me (and most of my age cohort, as one of the previous reviews eludes to). As my wife will attest to, I have been singing the "Scare-croooow... Scare-crooow.." theme since she met me 25 years ago! She has yet to see this, so hopefully Disney will do the math and figure out that these golden oldies will sell like hotcakes to US golden oldies. I'm certainly going to pick this one up when it finally arrives!

5-0 out of 5 stars DISNEY --- PLLLLLLEASE RELEASE THIS ON DVD!!!!
I watched The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh on the Wonderful World of Disney, nee, The Wonderful World of Color, every time it came on.It was one of the greatest films I have ever seen and left a deep impression on me as a child of the 60's.I sure wish Disney would release this on DVD.I'd buy it in a second!Great adventure, great suspense, great action, and most fascinating film. ... Remember the Titans is a classic film. It's one of my favorite movies! Its moving, action packed (football wise!) and just a feel good movie! Buy it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Left Side, Strong Side!!!!
Mann what can be said for such an inspiring movie.I have owned this movie for a couple years now and can honestly say it is watched no less than 20 times a year. This movie clearly illustrates change...how things will change...how change can be accepted by those who work hard for it... and how the younger generation can make it happen. This movie is acceptable in every kind of way...the actors/acting ability, the plots, and oh the music used during periods of the movie is brilliant, I even own the music DVD and keep it with me wherever I go!I highly recommend them both.Left side, Strong Side!!Watch the movie you'll get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Calling Criterion...
This is a great film.It grabs the attention from the opening credits and never lets up.I've seen it several times over the years on TV (in a no doubt "cleaned up for TV version"), but now it's time for a DVD, dammit!
5-0 out of 5 stars Run for Your Life: Exciting Realism
An all time great film with Cornel Wilde starring and producing the film. This adventure film offers a respectful portrayal of African life with a guide (Wilde) on his last hunting safari with an arrogant group of white hunters. Insult turns toultimate and dramatic revenge as the insulted tribe acts to even the score in a barbaric and frightening fashion. You pity the ignorant whites as they suffer cruel and horrible death along with their African aides. In respect to Wilde, the tribe allows him a brave's death allowing him to run for his life with a head start with nothing but his bare skin. Wilde is followed by single tribesman staggered in pursuit but his initial success against his adversaries result in pursuit by a well armed platoon of tribesman led by an angry and possessed leader that will not stop. Filmed on location in Africa, Wilde plays the part realistically, almost in documentary style, virtually living the role as he eats what he can in this marathon pursuit. Portraying the harshness of African life in the mid 20th century, you can relate to the cruelty of Darfur today with a scene of Arabs raiding a peaceful village brutally making them slaves for sale. The film features non-stop excitement with a race to the death that reaches its climax, with all characters gasping for air, only at the very end of the film. You won't catch your own breath until the credits pass.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic film. lease the rights! release a DVD!!!!

A beautiful soulmate story. The passion between Timothy and Kelly in this movie makes you want to fall in love over and over again. Editorial Review

When Samuel (Lukas Haas), a young Amish boy traveling with his mother Rachel (Kelly McGillis), witnesses the murder of a police officer in a public restroom, he and his mother become the temporary wards of John Book (Harrison Ford), a detective who's been assigned to solve the crime. After suspect lineups and mug-shot books yield nothing, Samuel, in the most memorable scene of the film, recognizes the murderer as a narcotics agent whose picture he sees in the precinct. Once Book realizes that the police chief is in on it, too, he whisks Samuel and Rachel back home to Amish country, where he himself goes into hiding as a plain Amish man. The juxtaposition between the life of the Amish and the violence of inner-city police corruption work surprisingly well for the story, and Kelly McGillis as the falling in love widow gives an almost perfect performance. Directed by Peter Weir, the film is extremely successful in drawing the viewer into its world and, accordingly, is immensely entertaining. The only thing that mars its polish is the one-dimensional, almost cartoonish handling of the upper-echelon police corruption--a subtler, more realistic treatment of this aspect of the story would have rendered the film near perfect. 2-0 out of 5 stars The only soundtrack is GERMAN
This is a movie I like a lot, but I am giving this version only 2 stars as a warning to other customers.Look closely at the details of the movie, under Language it only mentions German.Other Region 2 movies I have purchased that are American movies have always included an English soundtrack, but not this one.You can only watch the movie with German voices dubbed over the regular voices. It doesn't even have English subtitles.I still gave it 2 stars because you don't have to speak German to enjoy the exciting Rollerblade race at the end of the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget PC Culture for a Few Hours and Just Enjoy the Movie!
I still remember the first time I read "Gone with the Wind".I was in my native Georgia, in high school, and spent a weekend in bed with the book.Once I started reading it, I could not put it down.Margaret Mitchell's characters were sparkling with vitality and a contagious energy that made you feel as though they were your own neighbors and family!
1-0 out of 5 stars Oh, those poor racists lost their slaves, how sad!
(1) Scarlett O'Hara is the least likable "heroine" I've ever seen. She has no redeeming qualities.
1-0 out of 5 stars Long and laborious, and so very stupid... how is this a classic?
This is another of those movies I wonder "HOW is this a classic?". Maybe the book was a lot better than the movie! I was watching this, not expecting much, but expecting to earn my respect, the way "Scarface" or "Casablanca", movies I don't like but have earned my respect as classic movies.

Editorial Review

When this popular prison drama was released in 1994, some critics complained that the movie was too long (142 minutes) to sustain its story. Those complaints miss the point, because the passage of time is crucial to this story about patience, the squeaky wheels of justice, and the growth of a life-long friendship. Only when the film reaches its final, emotionally satisfying scene do you fully understand why writer-director Frank Darabont (adapting a novella by Stephen King) allows the story to unfold at its necessary pace, and the effect is dramatically rewarding. Tim Robbins plays a banker named Andy who's sent to Shawshank Prison on a murder charge, but as he gets to know a life-term prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman), we realize there's reason to believe the banker's crime was justifiable. We also realize that Andy's calm, quiet exterior hides a great reserve of patience and fortitude, and Red comes to admire this mild-mannered man who first struck him as weak and unfit for prison life. So it is that Read more

This television classic features the Peanuts characters in the story of Charlie Brown's problematic efforts to mount a school Christmas pageant. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Year After "Rocky" - and almost as good
"One on One" opened in the summer of 1977 and was basically a nice follow up to "Rocky" the year before. An underdog, in this case, a small standout high school basketball player, enters the big time world of college basketball and is ill equipped to deal with the pressures - and the assortment of difficult characters he encounters (an underage and older woman seductress; a coach from hell; a smug intellectual, etc.). Robby Benson was an important film star for several years and made several high quality films. This film, which he co-wrote, is probably his best (with "The Chosen," another little scene film, a very close second). His characters were decent, warm, smarter than they seemed, and brave. The love story with Annette O'Toole, who plays his college tutor, is believably drawn, and is the spine of the story of a young man's growth toward manhood. There is also plenty of humor in the story - and the basketball scenes, whether in practice or the actual games, have the feel of real college basketball, even today.THIS FILM NEEDS TO BE ON DVD!It's the 30th anniversary, so come on!On ESPN classic, they showed this film with some terrific commentary by Robby Benson and others in the cast, reflecting back on the experience of making the film. This should definitely be included in the DVD version. It was just excellent - and brought back all the feelings I had when I first saw the film.I was in high school too.It was the late 1970's and we were hungry for heroes. And life was definitely simpler (though, of course, it didn't seem so at the time). This is a smart, funny, inspiring film - and it deserves a gold star DVD treatment - with the terrific Seals and Crofts songs included as a CD bonus."My Fair Share," the title song is terrific.A five-star treat, by any standards!

5-0 out of 5 stars DVD now, please!
This is a great movie...it has its campy 70's moments, but when you compare it to the other movies made during that time, it far exceeds many of them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, touching, romantic tale
This is a film I first saw the year it was released and almost 30 years later I am still quoting lines from it and humming the theme song.PLEASE release a DVD version of this marvelous film for a new generation to experience and us "older" viewers (mid 40's)to be reunited with old friends.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Look
A very fine and intriguing documentary from Errol Morris about the life and work of physicist/celebrity Stephen Hawking, who revolutionized the way we think about the universe in his monumental book of the same name. The film is really divided into two stories, the life of Hawking as he struggles to overcome his paralysis, and the brilliant work he achieved in spite of his physical limitations. One gets the impression that had Hawking never became ill, he wouldn't have been as compelled to carry out the kind rigorous intellectual work that he of course did carry out, and (he himself notes that he was quite bored with life prior to his paralysis). Morris does a fine job with the material; the first half hour of the film suffers from a dry PBS feel, but the aesthetic and intellectual intensity takes off from there, the film never digresses into a mere sob story. Morris nearly always keeps the material more intellectually intriguing than it is uplifting and sentimental.

3-0 out of 5 stars Biography and Science
Many documentaries focus on either the scientific ideas of a person, trying to explain them to an audience wherein most people can understand what is being talked about.
3-0 out of 5 stars ...
A Brief History of Time is an uncomfortable combination of autobiography and a bibliography of some (generally Hawking dominated) concepts in cosmology. While it does go into more depth (and is slightly more entertaining) than Stephen Hawking's Universedoes when it covers these topics, the movie is greatly distracted by anecdotes about his life. Some of these offer an entertaining glimpse into his life and personality, some into how certain of his and other scientests' ideas were come across, but others are pointless and annoying, and on the whole they distract from the science, which is really the most interesting topic the film could cover.Read more

Editorial Review

When you are in the mood for a pleasant little romance, this should fit the bill. Amy Irving and Richard Dreyfuss are young pianists vying for the same prize. Surprise, surprise, they fall in love. We then must wait, with (nearly) breathless anticipation, to see if she will throw the contest to ensure his love. It is all a bit starry-eyed, but not overly gooey. The concert footage is handled with class, and there are some fine supporting performances from Sam Wanamaker and Lee Remick. It is also a lot of fun to see Dreyfuss and Irving as such fresh-faced innocents. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Time for DVD Please !!!
Just a short review of amovie I would immediately buy if released on DVD.I saw this movie with a group of piano students about 25 years ago, and it seemed to embody much of the angst, joys, and politics of this type of competition.Although somewhat trite, the movie provided a themefor a group of college aged music students to identify with.I check about once a year to see if this movie is available on DVD, and alas---not yet. I will keep checking in hopes that the studios will see this little gem for what it is! ... Read more
