5-0 out of 5 stars great career starter
I remember watching this in high school.Every character stood out on their own.Donna Dixon was my favorite-playing Sonny Lumet-beautiful and brainy.Wendie Jo Sperber was also wonderful. It She had the best lines.I always liked to see Hanks and Scolari get into the women's clothing before they got caught.Every episode is very funny and it's nice to seethem again!

This tape contains two of my favorite Bosom Buddies episodes: The Pilot and Macho Man.The comedic genius and talent of these two actors, as well as the whole ensemble cast, is timeless.I occasionally pull out my old tapes to watch an episode or two and always ending up laughing hysterically. If you want to be in a good mood, watch this show. ... ...I haven't bought the DVD yet.Loved/still love the movie as it was.But please don't just write movie reviews.I would primarily like to hear about shipping satisfaction and whether or not you think the DVD format/editing/quality etc. are to your expectations. Did you accidentally buy widescreen and want to warn others not to if they don't like letter-boxing?I ask reviewers to please remember to include product information. Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars "No Dishonor."
Of course I borrow the phrase out of context; this is the advice Julia (played by a luminous Vanessa Redgrave) sends her writer friend, "Lilly" Hellman, played by Jane Fonda - reminding her not to be too brave, not to do what she cannot do.The context is 1930's Europe: a place spread over by that insidious "wave of the future," Facism.Julia has been aware of its violent underbelly since the early 30's, even dropping out of medical school and studies with Sigmund Freud to combat its dangers. Badly beaten in the Vienna riots of 1934, as evil mounts Julia becomes incresingly preoccupied and elusive. Lillian, who has spent the same years in America crafting the play that will become "The Children's Hour," receives Julia's letter while on a triumphant tour as a successful playwright in a very different, more indolent Europe: the millieu of successful artists, entertainers, etc.Julia's letter asks Lillian to smuggle money for into Germany for the antifascist cause; though frightened, Lillian agrees to do so.The remarkable journey into Berlin, with its anxiety and attending threats of arrest and danger, make up the vast majority of this satisfying film.Although Julia is only seen a handful of times, primarily in flashbacks, she is the moral anchor of the film - a "watchwoman of honor, who never sleeps."It is her exceptional courage and brilliance which make her so beloved by Lillian. We understand that Lillian's deep love for Julia makes the risk possible;one sees that she would not have been capable of it in any other time or for any other person. And Julia is worth it: a spirited incarnation of unapologetic morality, wise, and understanding:"We can only do today what we can do today," she advises Lillian - in one of the film's best lines. This is a story of the lengths one would go to for a childhood friend, and one of the most amazing definitions of obligation, loyalty and personal honor captured on film. Also look out for a great portrayal of Dashiell Hammett by the late Jason Robards.

Amateur butcher and enthusiastic hockey fan Jason Vorhees is back in business, and business is good. Can a plucky young boy stop the madness before Camp Crystal Lake's population report takes yet another machete-aided dip? The stalk-and-slash formula was pretty narcoleptic by this point, but this otherwise humdrum entry is distinguished by some unusual casting choices (Crispin Glover as a stud in training? Corey Feldman as a genius?) and the splattery return of makeup master Tom Savini. The fact that this installment was titled Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Final Chapter...(except for the 7 that follow it.)
Let's be perfectly honest. There really is no "good" entry in the Friday the 13th series.None of these films will be mistaken for Citizen Kane or Schindler's List.
3-0 out of 5 stars Picking Up the Pace Again.
If you are familiar with this series, you know that the title to this 4th chapter 'Final Chapter' is most false. I have even heard that a part 12 is in the works right now. Even if we try to defend the title by saying that the people who wrote the series may have thought this was going to be the last chapter, we will probably recall that it didn't take part 5 much time to follow.Well, that said, onto the subject at hand. The end of Part 3 left us with the impression that Jason was dead. (At this point in the game, the grown Jason had had not cheated death so obviously yet.) So, for a moment, we accept that he's dead. Soon after Jason is brought to the hospital morgue, he revives with no real explanation. I guess we have to accept that he wasn't dead despite the axe in his skull. But all of that said, the story does pick up from here. If you follow my writing, you know that I think Part 3 was the worst. This 4th chapter starts to pick up the pace again. We encounter some kids on the way to Crystal Lake for a party. Unlike Part 3, the eventual victims of Jason have some notable peronsalities. (Good.) We also meet the young Tommy Jarvis. Tommy likes video games and masks. It isn't long before we start to see a mirror image of Jason. (Jason's father was never mentioned, and Tommy's father is absent; with hindsight, we know Jason has a sister; Tommy has an older sister; Jason loved his mother; Tommy loves his mother.) Well, we also meet Rob who becomes somewhat of an older brother to Tommy and a love interest to Tommy's sister Trish. (We get to meet and know the characters before the slaughter begins. Good!) Naturally, it isn't long before Jason shows up and starts to kill. But unlike parts 3 and 7, there was some notable and interesting interaction amongst the characters. Up until now, the standard formula for the Jason chapters was as follows. (1) Some kids get together. (2) Kids get intimate. (3) Jason shows up and kills most of the kids. (4) One person gets lucky and flips the tables on Jason. This 4th chapter adds an interesting element. Although Tommy Jarvis is only 12 or so, he seems to know that research and knowing your enemy is your best weapon. I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it, but the way Tommy defeats Jason is more psychological than anything else. Unlike any other characters that have crossed Jason's path, Tommy Jarvis has the honor of appearing in 2 more chapters of the 'Friday the 13th' saga. INTERESTING SIDE NOTE: Part 2 takes place 5 years after the end of part 1; parts 2, 3, and 4 are virtually back to back. A nice touch is that Rob is the brother of Sandra from part 2. This indicates that not too much time has passed since part 2. And although part 5 takes place several years later, Tommy Jarvis is in it. So, while part 4 concludes the past back to back continuity, it carefully prepares some continuity to come. All in all, it's a good chapter that gets the saga moving again after the horrible part 3.

3-0 out of 5 stars Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter
Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter~ Kimberly Beck is a totally alright sequell in this seemingly endless horror/slasher series. In this movie we get to see a very young Corey Feldman whom was a huge star in the 80's but was a virtual unknown when this movie was shot. Corey Feldman is the best actor in the movie and one can definetely see that he is the actor with all the tallent compared to the other b actors in this movie. The guy that played Jason Ted White said that he did it only for the money and he insisted on not having his names in the credits since he felt uneasy about the role that he played in the movie. The script is alright and not as bad as I would have thought it would be. The music is alright but not all that great. The dialogue is nothing short of atrocious compared to a normal movie but for a slasher movie it isok. The special effects are ok but they looked old and cheap even when the movie was made and that is not a good sign. One thing that I love is the obvious cheap looking 80's fashion, cheap sounding music and the bad hairdoes and the dancing. Then again this is the 4th movie in the series and the budget was nothing close to the first movie. Recommended for fans of the series and horror movies but ignore it otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth seeing
In spite of the disastrous title and the repulsive cover picture, this is the best film Zeffirelli has made since "Romeo and Juliet."It has a nice balance of atmosphere, characterization and action. The photography and scenery alone are worth the price of admission.Missing is the magnificent music that Zeffirelli usually has in his films.Contrary to the amazon reviewer, the film is quite focused and carries with it a tension, although the tension is deliberately kept from becoming oppressive. The path of the story is not at all "predictable" with several surprising turns. There are a few laughs in the beginning, but this is a serious film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful Film - Cher's Best!
This is a charming film with a great cast. The story is the perfect blend of bittersweet and endearing. And the countryside of Tuscany is a star itself! Cher, Lily Tomlin and Maggie Smith give phenomenal performances. Everything about the picture is first rate: the writing, the acting, the visuals, the soundtrack. One of my very favorite films of all time!

4-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong With Director Franco Zeffirelli!
Whenever director Franco Zeffirelli is at the helm, you can be assured of great acting, fascinating scenery, and beautiful music. He has shown this in his "Romeo and Juliet," "Taming of the Shrew," "Hamlet," and "Jesus of Nazareth." Generally speaking, I DO NOT like war movies. Mainly because one, they tend to glorify people getting killed. Also, because character development normally takes a back seat to people getting blown up. Well, this movie qualifies as an exception. The story starts in Italy few years before World War II. The young Luca gradually realizes that his mother has died. To be sure, his father helps a little, but very little. Well Luca falls under the care of Maggie Smith (English), Joan Plowright (English), Judi Dench (English), Cher (Jewish), and Lily Tomlin (American). What these women share in common is that Italy will of course declare war on their different countries. Mussolini promises Maggie Smith (who may be able to provide some diplomatic favors) that she and her friends will be safe. Of course we don't need to think too hard to understand that this promise will only be carried through if it serves Mussolini in some way. (Despite the title, Mussolini only has a brief part.) Well, later, Luca's father decides that German "...is the language of tomorrow." So, Luca has to leave these women who were so kind to him. And of course, Italy joins Germany in the war. These women become prisoners, though not all at once. (Cher and Lily Tomlin have a bit more time of freedom.) Well, Luca (now grown up) returns, and offers what comfort he can to these women. He also has an on and off relationship with the energetic Cher. While Cher has her faults, she is heroic. She shows care for the Jews who will be in danger if they don't get out of Italy. She also uses her own money to move Smith, Plowright, and Dench to a hotel. (It is still a prison, but it is more of a country club type prison.) Another plot comes into play when a playboy is after Cher's money. Maggie Smith does not care for Cher, but will she rise to the occasion and save Cher? What makes this so different (as far as war movies are concerned) is that the war is in the background. The real story is the suffering of these women. So, we have the horrors of war without the glory. (But we can trust that Hollywood probably won't ever figure this out.) Interestingly, Luca never loses his love of art, and in a moment of desperation, Dench throws herself in front of art to stop the Nazis from blowing it up. Even if you don't like war movies, this is one you should make an exception for. If you like this, be sure to see Director Franco Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet," "Taming of the Shrew," "Hamlet," and "Jesus of Nazareth." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, A great opera story ever told , Viva Mascagni
I have seen this video more than three times & each time i see it, it has the same impact on me. The feeling of beauty, tragedy. The way the artists potray the characters is truly superb. My favourate scenes is between the Tiruddu & Santuzza. The song 'No no Tiruddu' is done so well. also the intermezzo. Thelast act my Domingo 'Mama....."saying goodbye to her mother before the fight with Alfio ofcourse he dies at the end. The woman who shouts "Somebody has killed Tiruddu" in Italian is such a thrill & has become so familiar with many movie goers especially "the God Father part 3" saga. This is a great video to own.Obrastva & Domingo have never sounded so good. I also like Alfio's voice with his whip at the beginning of the film when he enters the market & everyone sorrounds him to listen. Buy this one U wont regret.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's your vector, Victor?
This movie is hysterical!Talk about busting a gut!Who could forget the lines, "Don't call me Shirley" or "Yes it is, but that's not important right now!"The wordplay in this movie is sheer genius; something we don't really see all that often in modern comedies.I was a kid when this came out, so I'm not familiar with all the movies they spoof, but it's still rather funny.....even if you don't get all the jokes.

5-0 out of 5 stars WILDLY OVER-THE-TOP & SOMEHOW USUALLY VERY FUNNY
PART BURLESQUE - PART VAUDEVILLE -- BUT FUNNY ALTOGETHER
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
Great one-liners, puns and sight gags, all played with deadpan perfection. Don't let my simplistic description mislead you, though: this spoof of disaster films is no standup comedy routine. Rather, I find it quite simply the funniest movie I have ever seen. The comedy is innovative and, at the time it was made, unlike any other comedy. While some gags in the movie appear merely silly or sophomoric, to make humor this funny takes a good deal of intelligence. It is almost surreal to see Robert Stack, Leslie Nielsen and Peter Graves deliver such hysterical lines. Often imitated, never equaled. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonderful Country
THE SUNDOWNERS is a very special film about sheepherders in the wonderful country of Australia. Robert Mitchum gives an impressive performance of a man torn between family and his love for the wide open country. This is a richly textured film with a touching score composed by Dimitri Tiomkin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robert Mitchum is Wonderful
I love this story of sheepherders set in Australia. Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr are a fine pair but one wants to take root and have a home and the other just can not stand still long enough to feel comfortable because it's in his blood you see. Mitchum is very convincing. Perhaps he identified with his character to some degree. This is sort of a change of pace for director Fred Zinnemann as his pace his methodical yet endearing to the land and people. This is a long lost classic.

3-0 out of 5 stars It screams for a remake!
I was really charmed by the book which is a great story about family and had high hopes for the movie when I finally found it.Don't get me wrong, I really think Ms. Kerr and Mr. Mitchum are wonderful actors and the scenery is great but the story is dumbed down and everything is too cute and funny. Peter Ustimov makes me gag!

5-0 out of 5 stars Carl Sagan's Vision Comes Alive
This movie is based on Carl Sagan's novel of the same name.Carl is no longer with us, but he was a key component in the production of this film.Starring Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, and William Fichtner, this fine film will capture your interest from the start, and even more so if you are into Science Fiction. You really get caught up in Ellie Arroway's heartfelt desire to make contact with another world. She gets her chance, and what follows is nothing short of miraculous.I cried during this movie. It tugs at your heartstrings in a big way at times. This is a truly great movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars No words...
This film always brings me to tears. No matter how much I know my emotionalstrings are being tugged, when Jodie Foster's face morphs into herself as a child and she whispers "No words"... well, I'm crying now.
5-0 out of 5 stars Carl Sagan would be proud
Somebody once said that good science fiction puts an ordinary situation into a futuristic or scientific backdrop. Contact is a prime example of how to make a good drama in a setting of science and exploration. It's as true an adaptation to Carl Sagan's novel as you can get considering what you have to do to make the events of the book fit into a feature film. They certainly don't skimp on the special effects either. The opening scene alone is beautiful in it's expansiveness. 'The Machine' hey build to do the space exploration thing is awesome to behold. They do a great job portraying the massive scale of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly 40 years old, now, the film still works...
You can even get a flash of Olivia Hussey's breast in the bedroom scene if you look closely, and she was only 15 at the time of filming, so this version of the ancient play was controversial in its day. It has passion, style, great supporting actors, and is true to its source as well. While the more recent version with Leonardo DiCaprio has some good moments, too, this one is the high water mark of "Romeo and Juliet" on film. I will never forget seeing this at the base theater at Fort Knox, Kentucky, after spending a month in Vietnam, facing almost another year in the Army. When the movie ended, one soldier in front of me said to his buddy, "They think they've got troubles? Try being in the damn Army!"Well, R and J did have life-ending troubles, but their falling in love, as instant as it was, achieves believability and really tugs at the hearts of the audience. This movie was a fine accomplishment, and its soundtrack album was also a big seller on LP in the late '60's. That Shakespeare fellow did his writin' before movies were invented, I think, yet his stuff adapts really well to the screen. For my taste, a Shakespeare movie almost always beats seeing his plays on stage.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Pinnacle Film Captures the Pure Essence of the Play
There have been many screen adaptations of Romeo and Juliet over the years. Some of them played by some of Hollywood's top actors and actresses. There was even the Romeo and Juliet last done by Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, which to my mind is simply Romeo and Juliet on steroids.
4-0 out of 5 stars Brings back my teen years in the theater.
First saw this movie as a 14 or 15 year-old teen.Loved the film!It is one of those seminal movie moments of my youth.I think it is the definitive film version of 'Romeo and Juliet.'Never saw DiCaprio's version and have no real desire to.The DVD was of excellent quality, considering the original film was shot in 1968. My teen daughter watched it with me, and did have some trouble following the Shakespearean dialog, but she could still follow the storyline. (I think we had more exposure to the classics in the Baby Boomer Gen than do kids today.) Nonetheless, we both enjoyed the experience and the DVD was delivered in Amazon's usual timely manner. The angry Prince's final words to the feuding families, "All are punish-ed. ALL ARE PUNISH-ED!" stands as an electric moment in the film. The performances by all are terrific.Enjoy! ... Read more

A doomed Macaulay Culkin becomes the object of affection for a little girl (Anna Chlumsky), estranged from her widowed father (Dan Aykroyd). This somewhat daring premise has various emotional buffers to keep young viewers from going into shock from Culkin's demise, but the film is also not shut off from real feelings. And while the story remains safely predictable, at the end of the day it is still a bittersweet experience. Culkin's performance is okay in that somewhat mannered way of his post-Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Heart-Warming Tear-Jerker Of A Movie. Anna Chulumsky Is Terrific. Recommended For Girls Only.
I caught this wonderful movie on TV (and was able to see all of it) after only seeing snippets of it, which I liked. I admit, I'm a real sucker for these movies (my best friend knows me best-thank God for her; that's how I can relate to this tear-jerker). I cried at the end of this movie. SPOILER AHEAD!!! My favorite scene is when Vada (Anna Chlumsky, in a heart-breaking performance) cries over Thomas J.'s (Mac. Culkin) coffin. God, that scene literally ripped me in two. Jamie Lee Curtis (daughter of the late Janet Leigh (from "Psycho" fame) and Tony Curtis ("Spartacus," "The Great Race")) and Dan Akroyd ("Pearl Harbor") are well-cast as a wandering woman whom Vada initially resents for trying to marry her overworking father to escape from her past experiences in life, but then comes to love at the end, and her dad, who works as an undertaker. I recommend this movie to girls for a Girls Night Out (or sleepover, etc). Rated PG for some thematic elements and mild language.

I remember when "My Girl" came out in cinemas. I was in third grade, I was at a new school, and it was the start of a new term. First thing we had to do is get into partners and tell the other person what you'd done over the holidays. I still hadn't made any proper friends yet, so no one really wanted to be my partner. I told the teacher, and he told off the class for not being very friendly. That was embarrassing, but it got me a partner. And what had I done over the holidays? I'd gone and seen "My Girl", so I talked about that...
1-0 out of 5 stars Parents be forewarned! This is a troubling film.
Be forewarned!.....This is a sad movie.I don't agree that this movie is a comedy nor is it a family film.I lost my best friend who was a girl unexpectedly at the age of 7.My parents in their wisdom thought it best that I didn't go to the funeral home and see her lying in a coffin.I feel the producers of this film should have included a warning.I felt violated by this film.Although death is a natural event, this young girl lacks any spiritual understanding of death.Like so many films today that call themselves "Family Entertainment", there is no God and consequently, no hope.I'd steer away from this one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It is a great movie!
This is a great movie.Denzel Washington is riveting. This movie is really a vehicle for him and he does a great job creating a multi-dimensional character plus he is easy on the eyes.
2-0 out of 5 stars An ironic anachronism, replete with Hollywood PC shibboleths
You can tell this movie was released in 1998 because you can still see New York's Twin Towers standing, and because of the groveling incantations of "Islam is a religion of peace," repeated often enough (along with casting a Good Guy Arab Cop, Tony Shalhoub) to offset any PC-incorrect image of portraying Islamofascist terrorism.
4-0 out of 5 stars Even more relevant since 9/11, but undermined by the need to demonize the CIA & the U .S. Military
This movie has become even more relevant since it came out in 1998.It was controversial and there were very predictable cries of ethnic defamation and so forth. While it came out after the first bombing of the World Trade Center and the Khobar Towers, it seemed a bit over the top at the time, but less so after 9/11.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insanely funny movie, a true classic
One of the movies I remember seing in the theater back in 1989, just a great comedy then, and even better now that I have it on DVD.This is a movie about a Group of 4 men that are inpatients at a state hospital that are in the same therapy group.Their young doctor has been trying to blaze a new trail in their treatment, stopping all of their drugs and doing strickly therapy.Unfortunatly, its been going slow. As a booster, he has plans to take the group to a Yankees Game on a supervised pass. And yes, they get aproval. Unfortunately, the plan didn't go as expected. The Doctor disappears while taking his patient to find a restroom. Unfortunatley, the patient is a semi-cataonic schizophrenic that only speaks as a TV brodcast or in baseball terms. He is the only witness to where the doctor went.So we are left with 4 psych patient in the big city, and no supervision. Well, I don't want to wreck the movie if you haven't seen it, although this was a staple of TBS, WGN and other cable channels, but let say that they stuggle through many different challenges, including police conspiracy and murder charges and some how come out clean. They all even get to face their past demons and gain theraputic insight as well.A classic movie, and a unique one as well. Highly recommend this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A benchmark movie no one remembers
I watched this movie yeas ago, then I watched it yesterday. It's funnier, now that I'm a little older and my tastes have changed some.
5-0 out of 5 stars timeless
I used to watch this movie as a child, and I love it as much now, as I did then. The cast of characters are the reason that this movie is so great

1-0 out of 5 stars Just a look at some girls
This is a really stupid film. The acting is almost as poor as the writing. If what you want to see is sex, rent something else. Not only is there nothing interesting in this film, there is nothing very sexy in it either.
2-0 out of 5 stars Emmanuelle Sex (6)
Emmanuelle 6, stars (I use that word loosely) Natalie Uher, a former Playboy Playmate of the Month in September 1984 (German magazine edition). Maybe I should say Natalie Uher has the lead role. Yeah that's better. Now does Natalie take off her clothes? Is there a terrorist in Iraq? Not only does she romp around in the buff but several other well endowed ladies do as well. No that's not the bad part. That's the good part, the only good part.
