5-0 out of 5 stars THE BOMB!!!
Remember the Titans is a classic film. It's one of my favorite movies! Its moving, action packed (football wise!) and just a feel good movie! Buy it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Left Side, Strong Side!!!!
Mann what can be said for such an inspiring movie.I have owned this movie for a couple years now and can honestly say it is watched no less than 20 times a year. This movie clearly illustrates change...how things will change...how change can be accepted by those who work hard for it... and how the younger generation can make it happen. This movie is acceptable in every kind of way...the actors/acting ability, the plots, and oh the music used during periods of the movie is brilliant, I even own the music DVD and keep it with me wherever I go!I highly recommend them both.Left side, Strong Side!!Watch the movie you'll get it.

James Bond's fourth adventure takes him to the Bahamas, where a NATO warplane with a nuclear payload has disappeared into the sea. Bond (Sean Connery) travels from a tony health spa (where he tangles with a mechanized masseuse run amuck) to the casinos of Nassau and soon picks up the trail of SPECTRE's number-two man, Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), and his beautiful mistress, Domino (Claudine Auger), whom Bond soon seduces to his side. Equipped with more gadgets than ever, courtesy of the resourceful "Q" (Desmond Llewelyn), agent 007 escapes an ambush with a personal-size jet pack and takes to the water as he searches for the undersea plane, battles Largo's pet sharks, and finally leads the battle against Largo's scuba-equipped henchmen in a spectacular underwater climax. This thrilling Bond entry became Connery's most successful outing in the series and was remade in 1983 as Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Thunderball just isn't a good film. Period.
Any way you slice the pie, Thunderball is a lard-encrusted, margarine-filled meal of empty calories. It is a bloated mess with a pompous performance by Connery, its only saving grace a towering budget and an excellent John Barry score.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thunderball
I'm not sure how it's never happened, but I've never seen a James Bond film. I didn't see any of them. I've heard of them of course, but finally while walking in a local library...I stumbled on this one and figured why not. Well, for my first James Bond experience I was pretty satisfied. It's a decent spy film, with some good action scenes and Sean Connery's burning charisma.

5-0 out of 5 stars an amazing tale without gunfight
I have just seen this movie and it was absolutly brilliant. The scenery, the actors the story which is pretty similar to the original Servantes book. John Lithgow is fabulous as the don, sometimes funny, sometimes very serious and sometimas extremely shy. You cannot help but listen to him and you belive him more than the family who tell that the don has only dreams. When the prince and his wife (the beautiful - just like her mother - Isabella) make fun of him, you can really hate them and want to help Quijote and Pansa. John Lithgow has played not just with his body but with his eyes too. His eyes. At the end he has pratically no lines he just look at us and it is perfect. It was a beautiful story with a talented, real actors. Don't miss is if you like films that touch you heart and soul. I give 5+1 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but...
Although I found this film to be light and enjoyable, I would have to disagree with anyone who claims that it is "quite true to the book."True, it follows an outline of the most basic plot, but do not buy into the idea that seeing this movie is anything like reading Cervantes' original work.A lot is left out, both in the extensive storyline and in the complexity of the characters. It is also set in a time period approximately two hundred years after the original book was written.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest movies that really stick to the book!
I THOUGHT THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT! This movie is one of the few movies that actually stick to the book, with only a few minor changes! The movie is about Alonso Quixada, an old gentleman who loves reading about chivalry. The books of chivalry change his mind, so he escapes from his home to become a knight-errant, despite his niece and housekeeper's pleas to keep him at home. Alonso, who has renamed hisself Don Quixote de la Mancha, takes Sancho Panza, his neighbor, as a squire. Together, Don Quixote on his horse and Sancho Panza jauntily riding on his donkey, encounter many adventures. For example, once, Don Quixote mistakes windmills to be giants. When he rushes towards the "giant" and is about to strike "the giant," despite Sancho's saying that it is just a windmill, his breath is knocked out of him. When he sees that the giant is really a windmill, he blames and curses the "great magician 'Malfatto'" who is really made up in his mind. While this is happening, Quixote's friends, the curate and the barber, his niece, and his housekeeper seek for ways to make Quixote realize his foolishness. The curate enlists the help of his nephew, Sampson Currasco, to help him cure Don Quixote of his foolishness. Sampson sets out to find Don Quixote and bring him back to his senses. The first time, he pretends to be a knight and tries to win a joust with him. However, Sampson loses. After Don Quixote wins, he sets out for the palace of the Duke and Duchess. There, he is entertained by them. However, he is merely a joke to them. The Duke and Duchess play many jokes on them. One day, the "knight of the mirrors," Sampson Currasco, demands to have a joust with Don Quixote. The terms are that if Quixote loses, he will have to return to his hometown and have no more adventures. However, if Quixote wins, the "knight of the mirrors's" fate is in his hands. This time, Sampson wins, and Don Quixote returns to his hometown. There, he lives until he dies peacefully.

5-0 out of 5 stars Condensed version?
    This is rather a question.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!
A truly wonderfully made film, mostly accurate to scripture and brilliantly acted. Joseph's brothers are the stars here in their own right but Paul Mecurio is in fine form as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remember the Biblical Account- without the kids
This movie was very well done- one of the best by this company.Just remember the story and don't watch it with your kids because they were very accurate about what happened with Potiphar's wife and Joseph's garment being left behind as well as the fact that she had been continually tempting him prior to this encounter. Also, they kept to the historical feautures in that the women wore fine linen that is fairly see-through.The only scene I remember being unhappy with was the baker beating Joseph in the prison (Not Biblical) and it isn't 3 days till they are brought out, though it may be that long till the events are otherwise fulfilled. There were a few other minor changes like that but none damaged the historical perspective. Also, I wish they had included Judah's offer of protection to Benjamin and his, therefore, being the one to offer himself in Benjamin's place. They show one offer but I assumed that was the other brother who made the initial offer and was refused since it was right when they got back to their father, just as the Bible portrays it. ... IN A NUTSHELL: A FILM WORTH SEEING & HEARING
5-0 out of 5 stars Great film!
James Mason is as handsome as ever. It's a really well worth seeinf film.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Perfect, But Vastly Entertaining
I have been told that the French predecessor of this film is better, but I don't see how.The compelling true story of the downfall of the Hapsburg family is recounted here with an emphasis on the personal tragedy of Prince Rudolph. Here is a man trapped in a loveless marriage, domineered by his tyranical father, deprived of the love of a mother who tries to dazzle everyone, caught in the uprisings of democratic politics, and addicted to cocaine to dismiss his pain.To add to his personal pain, he meets a beautiful, penniless noblewoman, whose family is basically out of favor, and falls hopeless in love. The politics, the personal manipulation, the suffering of the lovers is beautifully presented by MGM in their grand style. Sharif may not be the optimal Rudolph, but who could be immune to Catherine Deneuve's charm.James Mason is a perfect cold and stern Emperor, and Ava Gardner (miscast) fares adequate as the Emperess. It is James Roberton Justice, who plays the Prince of Wales, who steals the movie. His every scene is a joy. The European character actors who fill out the cast do a fine job, and the story unfolds as the tragic love should.Whether you believe that Rudolph killed his mistress and himself, or that his father had the secret police remove him, you will enjoy this movie.Good musical score too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars They Really Are a Screa-um!
"The Addams Family" is a great treat to watch on video. The family famous is back with all it's glory on these videos. This is one of the few ways to see the show these days since TV Land dropped it in 1998. Though it was taped in SLP form, there wasn't much difference, partly because SP and SLP/EP modes record mostly in the same condition if it's in B&W. Now, for the episodes them selves:4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
These two shows were both pretty good, though not my favorites.I enjoyed the return of Mr. Hilliard, the emergence of Kitty Kat (their pet lion), and the way the Addams family terrified one or two people who ratherdeserved it.Some good parts: Wednesday and Pugsley's scuffle with anobnoxious boy (in which they get the better of him); Morticia and Gomez'sswordplay; the feeding of the piranhas; and Morticia's beloved plantsstrangling each other.I also loved it when Gomez told Morticia not toworry that Hilliard would drain the swamps -- all politicians do exactlythe opposite of their campaign promises!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars VHS better than DVD?
If I could give this DVD four and a half stars, I would, but this is such a classic movie, I had to rate it higher. The DVD had the clarity, the trailers (which were awesome), and everything that I wanted, but for some reason, I noticed the DVD had some SMALL bits and pieces removed.Just small things like dialogue removed here and there, such as, when the college boys start chasing Daniel Stern after the moonlight serenade. It wasn't big, just something along the lines of "He has a Guitar" or something like that.I noticed part of the end bicycle race was maybe missing, too.Oh well.As a movie, I highly recommend this classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breaking Away
This is one I remember watching as a kid and never leaving the television untill it was over. A true classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Breaking Away - great fun for everyone
An excellent film with really funny scenes of growing up in the 70's. For a Brit of 31 years I grew up on films like this so this is my view of the U.S., probably a little rose tinted, but I don't care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Wine
I have been a fan of Zhang Yimou's films since 1999 when I first watched his 1991 film Raise The Red Lantern for my East Asian Novel class, and since then I have watched several other of his films such as Not One Less, To Live, The Road Home, Happy Times, and Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles. Each one of his films brings something new to the table and delves into such issues as urban/rural conflicts, political corruption, and Japan-China relations. Red Sorghum is Zhang Yimou's first film as a director and while it may be a bit simpler than many of his later films it contains elements that almost every fan of his films will be familiar with: beautiful settings, very fleshed out characters, and moments of conflict where those who possess little power are overwhelmed by larger forces. Also, Red Sorghum is Gong Li first film, and it is nice to see that even at such a young age, 21, that she already possessed on screen charisma that can really grip the viewer's heart. While not as masterful as her performances in To Live or Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine, her tears and iron core are still quite moving.
5-0 out of 5 stars A pastoral epic!
The bold portrait of the humble village wine makers against the interloping Japanese forces. An enigmatic and brave film that marks the ascending and meteoric career of Yimou Zang. Winner of the Silver Bear 1988, and one of my Fifty top choices of that Decade.
5-0 out of 5 stars A very good movie!
Watching this movie makes you feel the blood in your whole body are burning! It's very hard to produce a movie with such a strong force of passion. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like a good real life story, you will enjoy this film
It starred the great actor Dennis Hopper as Berry Seal, a DEA informant. He was hoping to get no time in jail if he helped the government in their pathetic "war on drugs" (liberals and conservatives can agree it's been a complete failure). Hopper's portrayal of Seal gives me the impression that the informant was a brash adventurer who smuggled drugs just as much for the thrill as for the money. When caught, he didn't turn on his partners in crime but did help get evidence about the drug smugglers in South America. He did risk his life and he should have got what the government promised. What he got was doubled-crossed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie, yet sad on our Goverments actions!!!!
I am friends with the characters(Barry and Camp) kids. This movie is such a great piece of art on just how the Columbian drug lords work and how corrupt the government is.This true story is touching, it is about a man who brought down the South American drug cartel single handedly, and was double crossed by a judge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Oliver North after he completed his task given to him by our government. It is a 11 out of 10.A NEED TO SEE MOVIE!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stimulating thriller!
Dennis Hopper, is a true living legend. This singular and talented actor that so many good performances has done, it shines with this clever script as a casting agent' s dream come true as drug smuggler.Interesting and well effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars SOMEONE PLEASE PUT THIS SERIES ON DVD!!!!!!!
This is hands-down one of my all-time favorite shows. As a child growing up in the late 60's, early 70's, I watched the re-runs religiously.Being a member of a dysfunctional family with lots of abuse and violence, I wanted to be adopted by the Addams family.Unike other shows, where the characters mock each other to get laughs, the Addams clan loved and supported each other's wacky ways. They deeply loved each other and thought that whatever any one of them did was wonderful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Republic Studios! Where is the DVD for this series?
The humor in this series was much more sophisticated than The Munsters which if I'm right actually came afterwards. I wonder if the reason this hasn't come out on DVD is that it was made by Republic Studios. Republic Studios is no more and possibly the company that owns the rights isn't interested in the work necessary to restore this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Average 60's TV Family!!
Remember the Addams family ? From 1964 to 1966, an entire generation grew up watching the antics and misadventures of this mysterious, eccentric and unorthodox family, who were polar opposites to the clean-cut, "Leave It To Beaver" or "Father Knows Best" families on television in the 60's. They were based upon the cartoon sketches of artist Charles Addams in the New Yorker magazine. The cast included Jon Astin as Gomez Addams, the father and head of the family, Carolyn Jones as his wife Morticia, Lisa Loring as their daughter Wednesday and Ted Cassidy as their tall, zombi-like butler, Lurch. The jokes and gags of the family are well known and always comedic. Gomez is a high-class lawyer, of Castilian/Jewish ancestry who loves to go on Safari and who is passionately devoted to his wife Morticia. He would become aroused whenever Morticia spoke French to him. Morticia is a dark, mysterious, intelligent, artistic and classy woman with not so average values. She has raised Pugsley and Wednesday to be so secure in their peculiar ways that the normal people are the odd ones to them. This occurs in the pilot episode, in which Pugsley and Wednesday are sent to school through the admonishment of a truant officer, Mr. Hilliard. But Pugsley and Wednesday prove to be too bizarre and difficult for Mr. Hilliard to handle. Memorable is the scene in which the kids become frightened after reading the Grimm fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" and Morticia deems the story too violent because a witch is killed in a hot oven. The second episode has the Addams consulting a child therapist to check on Pugsley, who has displayed "normal" behavior- joins the Boys Scout, plays baseball, etc. The Addams were a family like no other, with the exception, of course, of the Munsters, who were also on their own tv show at the same time (1964-1966). Available at Amazon.com are several episodes of all the seasons the Addams Family were on television. Sit back and enjoy the comic stylings of this unforgettable family. The shock that this must have been to normal families of the 60's are parellel to the same way the Osbornes on MTV continue to surprise their audiences. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Thanks to a greedy Pokémon collector, Earth's weather patterns are askew and its population doomed unless Pokémon trainer Ash can return three glass balls to their proper place in this second Pokémon feature. Unlike the television show, the movie features little violence and no Pokémon battles in the classic sense. Instead, the focus is an environmental one: what happens when humans interfere with the harmony of Earth's elements--in this case fire, ice, and lightning. Even Team Rocket have a (temporary, to be sure) change of heart, joining Ash and Misty in their effort to free the three imprisoned birdlike Pokémon who regulate those elements. The good intentions of this 76-minute film, however, don't make it any less dull for grownups (even though this feature is better than the first). Even more mind-numbing than the feature is the lead-in short, "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure," in which Pikachu and Pokémon friends follow Team Rocket's feline down a hole into a Munchkinland-type place. Without the humans for dialogue, viewers must endure a full 20 minutes of nothing but the squawks and squeaks of pocket monsters. As the movie's title song says, "We all live in a Pokémon world." 5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie!
I remember seeing this movie in theatres when I was around 7, and I really loved it!! Needless to say, this was my favorite movie out of the pokemon saga, especially since we see some my favorite character, Articuno. I was watching this yesterday, and let me tell you, when youre older, the movie has a whole new depth, I was crying at the ending. This movie is more entertaining then the first one (not to say the first one was bad, I loved it) I highly reccomend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Movies
This is the best of the Pokemon movies that I have seen. I actually won tickets to and attended the premiere in Los Angeles for this film and sat next to one of the creators of the film (a treat in its own right). While the plot line may be simple (boy must save world), the little details and the inter-connectedness of the Pokemon and the world speak to humanity and its often overlooked connection to the Earth. If anything just give the movie a chance. The score is actually really good (still have the promo cd I got at the premiere). Just enjoy some good anime :).

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best films on chic !
I have to agree with another review , this movie had me thinking when I was a teenager too , I loved audrey hepburn and all the cast in this film , I didnt read the book , maybe I should .
1-0 out of 5 stars Audrey 's worst film!!!
How Sheldon's wonderful novel was turned into such a bad (and very boring) movie is a mystery. Good cast (Hepburn, Mason, Schneider) wasted...Buy the book instead!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, Sexy, Mason/Gazarra Worthy Adverseries
James Mason and Ben Gazarra were still virile and energetic enough to pull it off as two middle-aged adverseries for the eternally charming Audrey Hepburn. Enjoy it for what it is, a straightforward, by-the-numbers suspense thriller with plenty of '70s fashion and atmosphere. The ending, where Hepburn must decide to believe either Mason or Gazarra, is great. Mason's 1978-79 performances in "The Boys from Brazil" and "Salem's Lot" and here made for a notable trifecta of quality acting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bottled during an earlier appearance of Halley's Comet
Sir Mason Harwood (Ian Richardson) runs an auction. It has come to his attention that there is an extremely large and rare bottle of wine that was bottled during the year in which Halley's Comet appeared. His daughter Margaret Harwood (Penelope Ann Miller) is being groomed for the top spot in the company business. She is sent to retrieve the bottle. Of course she is sent with an assistant, Oliver Plexico (Timothy Daly) that also has his eye on the top spot. Friendly rivalry leads to romance. But wait another pursuer of the bottle, Philippe (Louis Jourdan) appears on the scene. He wants the bottle for nefarious purposes and Margaret is in the way.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The Romancing the stone of the '90s!"
This is one of the best movies out there that has been overlooked by many people. It is a story of an apprentice wine-merchant,(Penelope Ann Miller), who discovers a bottle of wine that belonged to Napoleon called "The Year Of The Comet". The adventure starts when the bottle gets stollen and they have to chase after it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "Girl" movie that guys like too!
The plot line is very amusing with a significant amount of action. The chemistry between the lead actors is great. Excellent movie for when you don't want a "shoot em up" action movie or a sappy romance thatwould put a guy to sleep. We don't buy a lot of tapes but this one is amust. Strong competition to "Romancing the Stone". ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Ash Ketchum continues to work toward his goal of becoming a champion Pokémon trainer as he challenges a trio of synchronized swimmers in "Cerulean City"; A.J., a stern trainer, in "League"; and the conceited champion of a posh prep school in "Hard Knocks." Assisted by Misty and his friend Brock, Ash also overcomes the inept villains of Team Rocket and learns lessons about modesty, honesty, and sportsmanship.Although Ash initially feels that A.J. drives his Pokémon too hard in "League," he discovers how deeply he cares for them when Team Rocket tries to kidnap Sandshrew, his favorite. In "Hard Knocks," Ash defends a smaller boy from bullying upper classmen, and shows the snobbish students that training Pokémon isn't an academic exercise, but a way of life based on friendship and mutual affection.Viewers not caught up in the Pokémon craze may find the idea of fighting high-tech duels with these cute little animals incongruous. But millions of kids in America and Japan embraced it, and they've given the Pokémon a higher profile than such earlier product-characters as My Little Pony, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and Herself the Elf. 4-0 out of 5 stars I don't like Pokemon as much anymore but...
I used to absoulutely love pokemon when I was eight(no not when it was a fad,I actually hated it then). On my ninth birthday,I had a fun sleepover with my friends and we watched this. It was neat, and the episode the vidio got its name from is my second favorite episode. I recomend this one over JigglyPuff Pop,witch is pretty boring. I wish I still liked pokemon that much...

4-0 out of 5 stars Still good.
Yep, our "hero" Ash finally reaches Cerulean City, where he'll fight the local master for his badge. And this time, he's all alone. Misty left for no reason, and Brock had some "stuff" *cough* to do. Turns out the local master is 3 girls named Rose, Lily and Violet. And another shock. They're Misty's sisters. Gary has already been here and won a badge, and the pokemon are all exhausted, so they decided to just give Ash the badge. Misty doesn't want any of that, though, and challenges Ash herself. After a while, the battle is interrupted by Jessie and James, who have come to steal all the pokemon in the gym. Pikachu stops them by jumping into their soaked machine and shocking it till it explodes. And, since Ash wuld've easily won if he had used Pikachu, Misty's sisters give him the badge. Misty doesn't really agree, though.5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite episodes!

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining But Somewhat Uneven
LASSITER is a movie about a jewel thief in London during the years just before World War II. After an arrest he is pressured by British law enforcement and the FBI into attempting to steal a horde of gems from the German Embassy.5-0 out of 5 stars Another movie that deserves a DVD release
This little known movie stars Tom Selleck as an American jewel cat thief in pre-World War II London. It's a great movie and has an incredible supporting cast including Bob Hoskins as a police officer doggedly on the title characters trail.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one to watch
Red Lantern is a carefully crafted story centered around a young woman named Songlian, played by the ever-brilliant Gong Li. Songlian's hopes and dreams of college and a better life are cruelly cut short by the sudden and unexpected death of her father. With no money for school and at the insistence of her mother, Songlian is forced to marry Chen, a wealthy landowner who already has three wives of his own. Each of the wives reside in separate wings of his centuries-old castle estate. The living quarters are extremely upscale and come complete with a personal servant and maid. But, like the storied bird in the gilded cage, their lives are sad, empty and lonely.
1-0 out of 5 stars The Quality to DVD is Appalling!
Raise the Red Lantern is a wonderful movie with a great story. When I had heard that this movie was going to be transfered to DVD format, I was thrilled. And then I bought the DVD, and to my dismay, within the first couple of minutes into the movie, there were white lines and distortion. Since I loved the movie so much, I thought I would make an exception for the first few minutes, but as the movie continued, so did the white lines.I could not believe what I was seeing. The DVD copy of this movie, reminded me of the old movies I use to see years ago, when there were only 7 channels on TV.
1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible transfer quality!
UGH!Yet another disaster!I REALLY hoped this would be a bettter transfer than Ju Dou, but alas I am not satisfied!I am already 2 minutes into the dialogue and thinking "oh my gosh, do I really have to sit through this cr*p again??"Terrible subtitles also...erghhhhh...and I LOVE Gong Li.What a shame.I guess one can watch it KNOWING it's going to be bad quality ahead of time...I just really wasn't expecting it.I'm going to go watch it as I'm sure it's going to be great acting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better episodes.
This was a great treat. Morticia Joins the Ladies League is more primarily about Morticia and just great fun. Fester's Puntured Romance is pretty funny too. Especially if you are a Fester fan and want an episode that goes further into his character. A great addition to any VHS or Addams Family collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen yet
These two TV shows were livelier and funnier than the previous ones I've bought; perhaps the series got better over time.I expected the show about a gorilla visiting the family ("Morticia Joins the Ladies'League") to be pretty hokey, but it was funny."Fester'sPunctured Romance" was great too. I love it when different characters(Addams and non-Addams) have a conversation in which they both completelymisunderstand each other. It's the kind of running joke just gets funnieras it continues and snowballs. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Sinatra and Cobb at their best
This is one of the few movies I distinctly recall going to see with my family as a kid. I could tell you exactly where we went, et cetera. That memory being so vivid tells me that this movie was fun for the whole family or I would not recall it so vividly. Overall most Sinatra's movies are pretty good. This one he makes a believable playboy with the part of his concerned father played expertly by Lee J. Cobb. The whole movie is pretty lighthearted stuff and one most families can laugh at still today. Certain chords struck about young men acting like playboys and their parents concern for them settling down will likely never go out of style.

    4-0 out of 5 stars camp-tastic
Okay, this is a silly movie. And there is it's charm... just nutz. The over the top performances, stereotypical characters, 60's bachelor pad setting and flair (let's swing bay-bee), Norman Lear's snappy dialogue and little gem moments on screen make this one of the most decadent movies to watch. If you are a Sinatra fan, this is required reading. Sure it's cheesy, whatayawant?

5-0 out of 5 stars Astonishingly authentic recreation of a period
Having lived in Greece during the period portrayed in the film, I was dumbfounded by the extremely accurate recreation of the period. In addition to their other accomplishments, the creators of this film (producers, set designers, scripwriters, director, actors and others) deserve great praise for authentically reproducing in every single detail the total environment of the Communist insurgency that lasted, with breaks, from December 1944 until the Greek army managed to finally crush the elusive rebels in August 1949. If there was an Oscar for authentic period reproduction, Eleni would win it hands down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Beautiful, Haunting
This true account of a mother's struggle in post-war Greece has haunted me for over twenty years. Since becoming a parent myself, I have often thought of Eleni's sacrifice. It is a great mystery to me why this fantastic film has virtually disappeared from circulation. It's one of the most perfectly realized films you'll come across. The acting, direction, and photography are superb. It's worth owning just for Bruce Smeaton's brilliantly unique musical score. I've tried, without success, to find Greek music in a similar vein.
