4-0 out of 5 stars An Uneven Movie But Worth Watching
I saw this film years ago and was curious to see if it is still worth seeing after 50 years. The movie is beautifully filmed; the panoramic views are spectacular. The evacuation of the Italian Army is extremely well done. Rock Hudson as Lt. Frederick Henry, an American ambulance driver in World War I, proves that he can act in addition to being extremely handsome. He is by far the best thing about the movie. Jennifer Jones does not fair as well. One suspects that she may have gotten the part of Catherine Barkley, an English nurse, because she was married to the producer David O. Selznick of GONE WITH THE WIND fame. She says "darling" way, way too many times. Then there are the 50's censors to deal with. Catherine would never say she was "pregnant," but rather is going to have a baby. Had she not informed us of that, we couldn't have been sure that she and Henry actually went to bed together as she's always buttoned up to her neck in her nurse's uniform although Mr. Hudson does take his shirt off from time to time.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lavish and entertaining but unmoving remake
The 1957 version of A Farewell to Arms is a mixture of the best and worst of David O. Selznick. On the plus side is the no expense spared lavishness of the whole production, with great Italian locations, great production design, a good supporting cast (including an excellent Vittorio de Sica, Alberto Sordi and Elaine Stritch) and a cast of thousands. On the debit side, there's some hokey love scenes and the miscasting of Selznick's private leading lady Jennifer Jones, lisping her way through an awkward British accent while seemingly impersonating a rather large bunny rabbit that somehow got a job as a nurse.
3-0 out of 5 stars Simple love story gets over-cooked
There is no question that David O. Selznick was one of Hollywood's greatest producers - anyone can look at his list credits and see that he was responsible for some of the most memorable films to come out of Hollywood.Following his magnum opus, "Gone With The Wind" in 1939, however, Selznick kept trying to out-do himself, striving to create yet another great film on an epic scale. He did make some wonderful movies following "GWTW" ("Rebecca," "Since You Went Away," "Portrait of Jennie") but many of them (like "Since You Went Away" and "Duel In The Sun") were hurt by his attempts at over producing.

4-0 out of 5 stars I need an icepick.
Do you know why sex is always the downfall of men? Because even when their lives are in danger, they still have to pull out their wanker. That sums up Michael Douglas's character's stupidity here. I mean, for the entire film he suspects her of being a cold-blooded killer yet he allows himself to sleep with her and fall in love with her. He's so stupid. I don't know any "magna cum laude p***y" worth getting an icepick in the throat.
4-0 out of 5 stars Engrossing
One of the best films of the early 90's, doing more for female empowerment than any feminist rally.Stone in her star-making performance is as hot and sexy as she is ice-pick cold. The cinema of the teenage boy finds its purest expression. Its very effective thriller.More scary than sexy.Basic Instinct is, for the most part, a compelling whodunit anchored by strong lead performances. Douglas plays Nick with the same fire and intensity that characterized his brilliant work in Fatal Attraction.Sexually explicit and graphically violent psychological thriller is shocking and effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars How To Become A Star By Doing OnscreenWhat Actreses Used To Do Offscreen To Get Onscreen!
This is a highly forgettable movie which made a "Star " out of Sharon Stone for reasons which I can't quite fathom. The only thing I can remember about this movie is the Interrogation Scene whcih should appeal to every 16 year old High School Geek's sexual fantasies.I give this movie 5 stars because thankfully Ms. Stone and Mr. Douglas are rarely seen in movies anymore these days! ... What might have been a one-note family comedy becomes something more thanks to the comic brilliance of costars Nathan Lane and Lee Evans, as well as the distinctive, dark-fable look given the film by a little-known director named Gore Verbinksi. (Could he be the next Tim Burton?) Lane and Evans play idiotic brothers who inherit a house and all but destroy it in pursuit of one small, pesky mouse. The guys are always the butt of the sight gags--most of which are very funny--but their considerable powers as slapstick artists are also at play. The climactic scene at an auction was the funniest scene in any American movie in 1997, the year of Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Wiliest Super Rat You'll Ever See.
Nathan Lane was his usual self as he portrayed a chef in Club LaConte where he has a date with the mayor on the eve of the election.Alas, the mayor bit down on a roach and so the club was closed.Ernie retires with his brother Lars to the inherited family mansion, which they found in much disarray. When you're on top, the only place to do is down.Ernieis father has always needed a scapegoat, and he put his sons to the test.Because of a mortage on this old dilapidated house, both brothers are homeless and out on the streets on Christmas -- which was sad.Things get better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funnier And Better You Couldn't Get
I get a laugh out of people critiquing this movie on the basis of script, story, and comparison to "Home Alone," etc. It is just plain hilarious. Nathan and Lee are comparible to Laurel & Hardy! Need I say more? Who cares if I've seen others do some of the bits in this film, especially L&H? It's just fall-down funny from beginning to end. I've watched it over a dozen times and I laugh every time. It's a shame that the pairing of these funny men could not have led to a series of comedies as they used to do with Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello, etc. These two are far funnier than any of those past comedy duos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious flick. Family fun, or guilty pleasure for an adult.
I avoided this movie like the plague when it originally came out. I was suffering from both the film's and Nathan Lane's ubiquity at the time. That plus I never seemed to catch the flick in its entirety. Once I sat down and did just that, Nathan Lane and Lee Evans were perfectly cast for this roller coaster of a comedy that, once you get past the over the top story line and the fact that it gets a big hand by CGI (what, you thought they trained a real mouse to do all these stunts?), this movie is non-stop fun with just enough assistance from characters outside the main three, which of course includes the mouse. Christopher Walken particularly gets large laughs from a short amount of camera time (unlike "The Wedding Crashers"). Some great situations in this flick lead to huge laughs. If you have visions of "Tom and Jerry" or even "Road Runner", don't be embarrased, as this film draws inspiration from suchprograms, as well as classic TV and film comedies. If you avoid this flick for any of my aforementioned reasons, they'll be superceded by reasons you'll only know after viewing it. Lots of cameos by other familiar character actors add to the fun. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Out on a Limb
This is a little flawed movie, but it has some hysterically funny moments. The two Jim brothers are on my top 10 list of comedic characters. We still joke about "Field Clothes" in my family.Definitly worth a look.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Out on a Limb"
While browsing at a local video store on a rainy weekend, the box for a movie called "Out on a Limb" caught my eye. Watching VHS motion pictures has been one of my most frequent hobbies since I was about ten years old, yet the movie was completely new to me. That struck me as bizarre, since Matthew Broderick is one of my favorite comedians. After substantial research, I discovered that "Out on a Limb" was not a box office success. When yours truly asked ten people what they knew about the 1992 comedy, seven of them didn't have the vaguest idea of what movie I was referring to. Following my rental and viewing of "Out on a Limb", I was generally impressed. It bared resemblence to some of the classic television comedies such as "Laurel and Hardy" and "The 3 Stooges". In other words, this film should be classified as a gagfest, full of little puns and laughers. Though not at all a fan of the classic comedies listed above, I found "Out on a Limb" to be refreshingly enjoyable. Broderick played a common civilian in the plot that was stitched together to include a middle-aged woman taking the civilian hostage and forcing him to do ridiculous things. My main point about "Out on a Limb" is that there is a storyline, and that does the job of making it into a real movie, contrary to many Adam Sandler and Chris Farley films which have no plot. Funny little jokes are included in basically every scene, and, the significance of each joke isn't important since the jokes go from character to character: the jokes will go from the kidnapper to the victim to the police and were initially from a little elementary school girl telling her class what happened on summer vacation. In conclusion, there aren't many clean and outright funny movies like this one out in today's society. It's crystal clear to me that the average movie buff has to have "out of this world" special effects sprinkled on top with sex and violence. This is different in every way, but it is one of the better comedies that I have viewed. Although critic's may disagree with me, I think that Matthew Broderick wasn't as funny 5 years earlier with "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because that seemed to be a tired movie with nothing to the imagination. If you're looking for an enjoyable movie that makes you think and makes you laugh, then "Out on a Limb" is a winner.

2-0 out of 5 stars Broderick murdered this movie
Francis Veber is one of the most popular frnch director. A lot of US movies were an adaptation of the french ones( three fugitives, the birdcage, father's day,la chvre and soon le diner de con). "Out on alimb" was his first movie in USA and Matthew Boderick destroyed it.Even in France, it's quasi impossible to find this movie. The only reasonto watch it is Jeffrey Jones. ... Read more

It's hard to believe that this fantastical tale of a schoolboy rebellion was banned in its native France for 12 years following its initial 1933 release (for supposed anti-French sentiment). Perhaps the French authorities were remembering director Jean Vigo's father, a famous French anarchist who died in prison, or just concerned that Vigo was revealing too much of his own unhappy youth spent in boarding schools. They needn't have worried. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Do you want a zero in conduct?"
French director Jean Vigo made only two feature length films (and two short films) before dying at the age 29. "L'Atalante" is an much acclaimed film--but "Zero de Conduite" has fallen into obscurity. Upon its release, "Zero de Conduite"--a short tale of schoolboy rebellion--was banned in France. Perhaps it was judged too subversive--Vigo's father Eugene Bonaventure de Vigo (AKA Miguel Almareyda) was a prominent anarchist who was murdered in jail.
5-0 out of 5 stars A film that broke the walls of the possible!
Based on Vigo 's personal childhood experiences, this admirable, beloved and poetic work constitutes a superb and precise outlaw portrait of a boarding school. Vigo creates a claustrophobic world filled of tension in which the petty tyrannies of the school regime stand in sharp relief against the natural fantasy and tender delirium of the children. There is a lot of psychological insights, this landmark was banned in France until 1946.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, surreal view of the life of young children
Jean Vigo excels in presenting life as a sort of surreal dream, with bits of humanity scattered throughout. In 'Zero In Conduct', it seems he finallygets to live out a fantasy of childhood rebellion, probably one in whichmany have shared. There are many beautiful and innovative shots, includingthe gorgeous slow-motion march through the falling feathers. It occurred tome that Francois Truffaut may have seen this film before he made 'The 400Blows'. Highly recommended for fans of 'L'Atalante', however the'International Film Series' version sold here at Amazon is a verylow-quality print, so be careful. ... Read more

Jane Fonda's memorable, zero-gravity striptease during the opening credits of this 1968 Roger Vadim movie is the closest the film comes to a liberated marriage of wit and sex. Based on a French comic strip, the story concerns the adventures of a 41st-century woman, who pretty much gets it on with whomever asks. The sci-fi sets were pretty interesting at the time, though they look rather anachronistic now. Appreciated today mostly as a camp classic, the movie is actually more trying than anything else. 5-0 out of 5 stars Barbarella's influence on pop-culture...!
OK, we all know that Duran Duran got their name from the evil doctor in Barbarella, but Barbarella's influence on pop-culture extends far beyond that!
2-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment...
Jane Fonda was not only an excellent actress but a beautiful, if opinonated (remember Hanoi Jane?), woman.I watched this as a teenager and despite the "striptease" this has to be one of her worst.Hormones be damned, watching this was a waste of time.If you like Fonda, try Klute. She was an excellent actress --- but no one could survive this mess.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Stupid and boring"
I purchased this movie because I always thought Jane Fonda was very sexy. I still believe that but this movie sucked. It was corny and everything from Barbarella's carpeted space ship to the costumes made me think "low budget".

I grew on Danny Kaye and other mogals of that age and i think i can safely say that Hans Christian Andersen is one of the best movies he's been in.It's a heartwarming story about the life of writer Hans Christian Andersen, told through song and dance as well as great acting. It's not one of Danny's more comical pieces, being a bit more serious, but it holds his classic trademarks in film.

When Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens hopped a small plane after a Midwestern concert gig, early rock suffered one of its most striking tragedies. Holly's death in the plane's crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, was an obvious loss given the Texas rocker's international reputation. But Valens, a Pacoima, California, teenager, was much closer to the starting gate, his impact extending to just two national chart hits, the teen ballad "Donna" and his ebullient recasting of a Mexican wedding song, "La Bamba."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars And now Ritchie Vaelns' life story
First we had The Buddy Holly Story, and now we have La Bamba, that is Ritichie Valens' own life story, and in the Buddy Holly Story we had Gary Busey doing his own singing, in this movie, Lou Diamond Philips doesn't do his own singing, instead it is a band named Los Lobos. And plus we get some more out of this story then the buddy Holly Story, okay we know that Ritchie Valens was another one of the singers that lost his life in the plane crash on the morning of Febuary 3rd, but how much else do we know about him, since his carrier was only 8 months long? La Bamba opens with some boys playing basketball in a school yard, and in the sky are 2 plans, that crash, and guess where they fall. Yep, that is rgith to the schoolyard below, we later learn that one of Ritchie Valens' best friends was killed on this day, and that we are too believe that this is his memory. We also learn that he was not present that day, and he believes that if he was, he would have been killed by one of the falling planes. Hence, why he didn't like to fly. Ritchie Valens (Lou Diamond Phillips) grows as a poor boy out in the middle of Calfiorna, he lives with his Mom Connie Valenzuela (Rosana De Soto) , and one day when working out in the fields he sees his troubled half brother Bob Morales (Esai Morales) coming out hsi motorcycle, and goes off a ride. And then find Connie, and they also introuce a freind of his mom name Rosie (Elizabeth Pena) to Bob. They movie out, and into a trailer, and 3 months later Connie leaves for her job as a waitress. And he heads off to school, where a new girl named Donna (Danielle von Zerneck) is new to town, and to the school, and is in one of his classes with Ritchie. The rest you should get of his beginning of his carrier, where he treys out for a garbage band, makes it, but at the first gig the lead singer (Geoffrey Rivas) doesn't even let him sing, which leads Ritchie to tour around town solo, and envtelally with the band minus the lead singer, when then he is spoted by the man that would be become his manger and his name is Bob Keene (Joe Pantoliano), which leads to his school days being over, and Ritchie still dating Donna, even if her parents, weel at least her father doesn't approve of Ritchie and the music that he plays.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love this stuff!
I'm the father of a budding musician and I once played the small town American Legion hall, and high school hops, coming out of the garage. Valence's manager may dispute some of the details of this movie, but it's not History Channel, it's a movie, and I could relate to a lot of the details concerning early musicianship. It had a nice, REAL feel to it. Now I can better appreciate Los Lobos, too, who participated in musical aspects of the movie. I watch Valence's first encounter with "La Bamba" over and over again. The transformation of classical/folk guitar to electric fascinates me.
5-0 out of 5 stars La Bamba--Best of the Musical Bios
For those Americans whose first exposure to Ritchie Valens was from LA BAMBA, they were treated to the very essence that made Valens the briefly shining star that he was.Director Luis Valdez correctly fused the major parts of Valens' life with some of the songs that rocketed Valens to the top.Lou Diamond Phillips has a breakway role as Ritchie Valens and plays him with just the right note of self-assured talent and the conviction that his talent will not be stopped by the racism that was then rampant in the music business. We see Ritchie Valenzuela trying to balance a musical career that will not tolerate Mexican-Americans with his equally strong grasp for the love of a blue-eyed blonde Donna, neither of which will be easy to achieve.Valenzuela learns painfully that no singer with a Latin name can hope to hit the top ten.He compromises by choosing an Anglofied version--Valens.But with Donna there can be no compromise. His breakout hit "Donna" is his clarion call that there are some principles that he refuses to give in on.Valens even learns to trust his instinct that tells him that a Spanish language song will be a bestseller.Hence, the "La Bamba" of the title, which is played by the real life Les Lobos during a footstomping jam session.Esai Morales as his weaker brother Bob pushes the film into soap opera territory, yet even here, Phillips as Valens keeps his feet and his voice solidly grounded in the basic business of the film.I had a bigger problem with the airplane crashing foreshadowing that intruded far too often.Valens' dreams of his own death in a plane crash gave the film an overheavy dose of inevitability.During the last night of his life, Valens shares center stage with the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly, both of whom add their own verbal luminescence to the singing light that was extinguished far too soon.LA BAMBA is a musical paen to those fortunate few who possess the ability to shake us out of our chairs and deposit us on dancing in the aisles.LA BAMBA is one such movie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Aroused
Roger Vadim's twisted satire of Southern California and the American education program was a flop on first release, and it was a long time before he dared return to the USA to make another feature. But today PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW definitely has the hallmarks of a masterpiece, anchored by four brilliant performances.First off, Rock Hudson in perhaps his last important picture. He's a little fleshy and with his shirt off the camera seemes reluctant to travel past his navel for fear of exposing some extra weight on his hips. And Vadim's cameraman (Chuck Rosher, who later did A WEDDING and THREE WOMEN for Robert Altman) hones in on some penetrating closeups which really show up his crows feet--he's lived and that seasons his character. As usual, he's the men girls want and the man boys want to be, but here it's a deeper and considerably darker version of himself than he ever let people see on the screen. His ideal married life is something of a sham, or is it?A cryptic epilogue with Telly Savalas makes us wonder if "Tiger" hasn't really the perfect marriage after all.Vadim needed a larger-than-life star for "Tiger" and he certainly got one.

5-0 out of 5 stars An impressive and well made historic canvas!
1560. Jean de Coras, Toulouse Parliament ` s Counselor, undertakes a rigorous investigation in Artigat, a small French village about the story of an imposture.
5-0 out of 5 stars Engages your senses
When I first viewed The Return of Martin Guerre in a Washington, D.C. arthouse cinema when it originally came out, it became firmly etched in my psyche as one of the most memorable films I had ever seen.Over time -- and throughout numerous viewings of my own copy of the film purchased several years ago -- my reverence for this film has only increased.Yes, it introduced me to the prodigious talents of Mr. Depardieu.Yes, it has an intriguing plot with a passionate and surprising, yet, somehow inevitable conclusion. However, the most memorable aspect of the film for me has always been how all of the film's elements combine to make the viewer completely experience medieval France. As you watch the characters in their homes, speaking with one another, you swear you can SMELL their unwashed, earthy-smelling bodies. When you see people trudging through the rutted streets, you can FEEL the sucking of the mud as it tries to keep the boots of the pedestrians in its grasp.Never have I been more involved in a film on so many levels simultaneously.I have recommended this film too many times to count, and I have loaned my copy out only to trusted friends. You don't just "watch" Martin Guerre, you truly experience it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will the real Martin Guerre please stand up
This excellent movie is a suspenseful mystery involving possible mistaken identity, with a strong Hitchcockian feeling to it, set in a mid-1500s peasant village in France. Martin Guerre (Gerard Depardieu) marries Bertrande (Nathalie Baye) but soon after disappears. Eight years later he returns - but is it really him?

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior over-the-top Bette performance with gusto!!
I just bought the VHS of this very recently, not having seen it for at least 25 years.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bette Davis and Joseph Cotten take you Beyond The Forest
"The ultimate portrait in Bette Davis's long gallery of evil dames." The New York Times
4-0 out of 5 stars It needed Virginia Mayo!
Bette Davis told Jack Warner over and over "Give this part to Virginia Mayo!" -- and, after her trampy roles in White Heat and The Best Years of Our Lives can't you see how terrific Virginia would have been in it!If Bette had wanted to leave town, she would have done so 20 years earlier.Still, it's a hoot to watch, isn't it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best pair of the first season.
If there is a prototypical "mythology" episode outside of the Pilot, it may be "E.B.E.", one of those great X-Files goose chases in which nothing is in the end for certain and you like it that way.Because it is a succinct briefing on the essential elements of the chase--Mulder and Scully's opposing talents and positions and yet unfailing mutual loyalty--and also introduces the Lone Gunmen, I often show it to X-File newbies to catch them up.But the generally-agreed best episode of the first season is "Beyond the Sea," a biting combination of paranormal mystery and personal drama that also reverses the heroes' usual roles.Brad Douriff makes one of the most memorable guest-star appearences as a death-row mass murderer who claims to have psychic knowledge of the wherabouts of some kidnapped kids.Mulder believes him to be in league with the kidnapper, but Scully is forced to consider his claim when he seems to channel her lately deceased father. The conclusion is unconventional and the script is one of the best.If you only need a small sampling of the first season before moving on to the high-production years, this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars two of the best episodes ever.
Beyond the sea is a little better out of the two. Beyond the sea is about scullys father dying, and two teens are missing but with the help from a death row inmate, mulder and scully search for them. Also the death row inmate has the ability to channel spirits, and of course the scully/death of her father is played out.E.B.E. is another great one, this one is about a truck hauling an alien to a control center or something like that. mulder and scully track the truck down and .......... well your going to have to buy it and see, but if youve already seen it than you already know. i would definitly buy this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars great stuff
E.B.E. Is a great mytharc episode--four stars, but "Beyond the Sea" really stands out in this video --six stars. It continues to be one of my favorite episodes, (Along with "Jose Chung's 'From OuterSpace'," "Momento Mori," "Closure," and"Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh you angels from on high!
This is a great movie. It's a fine Christmas movie, but it's just a great movie for any time.Where I come from, this story is called "Los Pastores." It's a lovely Hispano Christmas tradition--it goes with Posadas--where the whole town goes house to house with Mary & Joseph searching for a room at the inn--and in my part of the world folks have old handwritten scripts in endless archaic Spanish. It's funny, bawdy, and it used to be put on yearly in my town.Read more

Masterpiece or masquerade? Lars von Trier's digicam musical split the critics in two when it debuted at Cannes in 2000. There were those who saw it as a cynical shock-opera from a manipulative charlatan, others wept openly at its scenes of raw emotion and heart-rending intensity. There is, however, no in-between. 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible movie! Be prepared to cry in the finale...
This is surely a masterpiece although it has as many admirers as haters. It is difficult to describe its character: is it a melodrama, a sentimental soap-opera, a musical, an eccentric videoclip, or simply a surrealistic story of a woman (Selma) who wears thick glasses and loses her vision with each day passing? Selma dances and sings due to her incurable love for musicals, when everything around her is falling apart. The camerawork is indeed hard to follow in some cases, but if you are patient enough you will be amply rewarded in the end! The finale is incredibly moving. Director Lars von Trier deserves congratulations because he succeeded to bring back compassion in modern cinema with the most subversive way. A film not to be missed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Painfully dull, the camerawork is irritating as hell. Think "Blair Witch Project"
I couldn't even get to the end of this movie, it was so irritatingly dull.THe camerawork is... "artsy"? It made me feel sick. Evidently the ending was worse than the first half so I'm glad I didn't finish it. I'll just stick to (some of) Bjork's music and avoid ALL of this director's work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nauseating
I wish I could give this film negative-5 stars.Truly the worst movie I have ever seen.Von Trier is a sadist who forces his audience to sit through the last hour of the movie and share the unending agony of the main character, only to be followed by a horrible execution. After it was over, I was truly ill.Watching this movie reduced the quality of my life.I will never see a Von Trier movie again. He hates women and it shows. He should be launched into outer space; only a hateful human being would make something like this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a very good Dutch movie seen from a Dutch point of view
In the late seventies Paul Verhoeven's 'Soldaat van Oranje' (= Soldier of Orange) was a huge success in the Netherlands. Not in the least by its authentic Dutch locations, as well as by employing the best Dutch actors & actresses around at the time.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Even if they die, they will keep the Nazis busy for months."
Winner of the Los Angeles Film Critics Award as Best Foreign Film in 1979, Soldier of Orange is based on the memoir of the same name by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, one of the founders of the Dutch Resistance, aide to Queen Wilmelmina during her exile in England, and RAF Pathfinder pilot in the last days of the war. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, the film dramatizes the traumatic effects of the Nazi occupation on Holland, and the often futile attempts to form a local Dutch Resistance.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Resistance's epic!
To my mind this film constitutes one of the most invaluable documents in the whole cinema story. This picture, inspired in real facts shows us the hardcombative spirit of the Dutch Resistance during the WW2.

3-0 out of 5 stars Punchy little horror movie
Set in New Orleans ,this movie centres on a Catholic priest,Father Michael (Ben Cross) who ,despite his vocation does not believe in the devil or in the existence of demons .He comes to see things differently when he takes over a church where the two previous incumbents have been violently killed .It is not long before he finds himself confronting the title entitya super-demon whose speciality is the corruption and murder of priests .At first the creature appears to him in the form of a luscious and ripe young woman ( Nicole Forher) but before too long it takes its altogether more revolting true form and the stage is set for the concluding battle between Good and Evil as the priest and the demon lock horns-so to speak.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get Real People
This is a fun, entertaining MOVIE!To say that this depicts the way SAAAY-TAN (insert your own impression of Dana Carvey's "Church Lady" here) works is absurd.

3-0 out of 5 stars The "Dream King" in a Nightmare!
I have read a considerable amount of material on the life of the tragic Ludwig II of Bavaria. Enough to be totally captivated by the man and his dedication to a life of art and music. For sure, he had many flaws like other leaders, but he was a man made for a future era and was born before his time. This Visconti film had tremendous potenti
