4-0 out of 5 stars Two plot lines that would be better served standing alone
"Star Trek: Voyager," Episode 49, "The Swarm" (Written by Michael Sussman, Aired September 25, 1996) finds the starship encountering yet another enemy in the Delta Quadrant. While on a shuttle mission Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) and B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) are attacked by aliens who materialize, fire weapons, and disappear. Both are wounded, Paris seriously, but Torres gets the shuttle back to "Voyager."We learn from Neelix (Ethan Phillips) that no one knows the name of these aliens, but their reputation is that the attack anyone who dares to enter their territory.Like angry insects, they swarm after their prey. The problem is that their territory is so large that Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) decides to just keep on course and not try to take the long way around.Meanwhile, the memory circuits on the EMH have seriously degraded and the Doctor (Robert Picardo) cannot remember how to complete an operation.Torres needs to reinitialize his program, but that will erase not only the Doctor's accumulated memories but his personality as well.Clearly, "Voyager" needs a functioning EMH, but no one likes the idea of pushing the reset button on the Doctor and having to start all over again (although that would certainly be an interesting idea; the original "Star Trek" had the opportunity to do that with Uhura when Nomad wiped her slate clean, but that was fixed in five minutes off-screen).4-0 out of 5 stars The Doctor is losing his mind
Voyager encounters an area of space that is inhabited by a race of aliens that are somewhat inhospitable to say the least. They warn voyager thatcrossing into their territory will mean their destruction.Since theirterritory would take years going around voyager must go through it. Meanwhile the doctor's neural pathways are deteriorating and he is losingall his capabilities. Kes doesn't want him to be reset his originalprogramming so they seek the help of a fellow hologram modeled after theDoctor's creator and designed to help with his system. Can Kes save theDoctor's memory? As voyager encounters a damaged vessel adrift inside theterritory the sole survivor says to leave as soon as possible before dyingof injuries.Just then they are spotted and a fleet of a few thousandships converges on voyager, can they escape in time?

4-0 out of 5 stars The swarm is coming!
A great episode that has two main storylines, the first is about the Doctor whose been operational for over two years non-stop something hisprogramming was never designed to do, as such his personality and memoryroutines are degrading, at first slowly but eventually at a shocking rate. The Voyager crew face an uneasy decision, turn off the Doctor for now orre-boot the programme and thus lose all that WAS the Doctor. 5-0 out of 5 stars visconti's last film -a gem!
This movie is perfect in every way.The cinematography is absolutely hypnotic. The performances are brilliantly subtle, yet powerful. It is an excellent study of passion, jealousy and desperation. Each scene is so multilayered, that upon repeated viewing it could never be boring. The musical score is a beautiful accompaniment, greatly adding to the feel of the movie.I highly recommend this movie to anyone, but I especially think of it being a great experience for anyone who is interested in increasing their knowledge of great filmakers like Luchino Visconti.

4-0 out of 5 stars A MELODRAMA WITH CLASS
A free adaptation of GABRIELE D'ANNUNZIO's novel , this is a terrific melodrama that will pleased mostly lovers of those turn of the century stories dealing with adultry.Slow moving it is ,but never boring and you guys will ravish at LAURA ANTONELLI's stunning figure. If you don't think that LAURA is beautiful then you must be blind. It's fun to see TULIO (GIANCARLO GIANNINI)go crazy when his wife is announcing him that she is pregnant from another man.The hypcrosy of bourgeois life is interestingly treated and that villa, plus the fashion of the time making all the women look their best. One truely wonderful love scene and finally let me say that i would like to see other movies like this. You guys watch out ,because your wife or girlfriend may ask you:am i as beautiful as LAURA?OK now you're in trouble.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film
Roger Vadim is hardly a distinguished name in the history of film, but he was always better than most of his detractors thought, and when he ran into good material and a strong cast, good things happened.
4-0 out of 5 stars French charm and coldness
I have not been a great fan of Roger Vadim. For feminist reasons, naturally: it doesn't raise a lot of confidence to know, how he treated women and made them all look like blond barbiedolls. But sometimes he did good movies. This is a good one. And he didn't make Jeanne Moreau dye her hair blonde!
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting but disappointing....
"Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by Choderlos de Laclos is one of my favorite books.I've seen all the other adaptations, and with a cast like Jeanne Moreau and Gerard Philippe I was really looking forward to seeking this one.Well... the performances are great, but the film leaves a lot to be desired. In contrast to the more recent TV film with Rupert Everett and Catherine Deneuve, it does not fare quite so well in adapting the story to a 20th century (1950s/early 1960s) setting.Making Valmont and Merteuil (Juliette in this version, perhaps a reference to the Marquis de Sade's anti-heroine) husband and wife rather than ex-lovers was a really bad idea, since it totally alters their dynamic and removes one of the key elements in the characters' motivation: Valmont's pact with Merteuil that she will spend the night with him if he can seduce the pious Madame de Tourvel. Also, the film feels very "rushed," especially toward the end -- 106 minutes just isn't enough to do justice to this story and these characters.Read more

Okay, blame it on Geordi La Forge. It's his slip of the tongue that causes all the mayhem in this episode. After Data ruins a perfectly good holographic adventure by jumping to the end of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, the frustrated chief engineer asks the computer to create an adversary worthy of defeating the android. What Geordi meant to say was an adversary worthy of Holmes, but never mind. The computer obliges and Moriarty is born. Literally. He comes equipped with superintelligence approaching consciousness and a direct line to the main computer. Somehow, Dr. Pulaski gets thrown into the mix--as a crumpet-eating hostage, of all things--and Moriarty starts messing with the Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A slip of the tongue can kill...
Plot:Geordi and Data are taking a break on the holodeck, playing in a classic Sherlock Holmes mystery.Unfortunately, Data solves the mystery before it gets started, which irritates Geordi. He tries to explain to our favorite android that he wanted to solve the mystery, not jump to the end.Data, however, is unable to comprehend this concept.Dr. Pulaski, overhearing, asserts that Data is totally incapable of solving a real, Holmesian-style, mystery.Data and Geordi disagree, so they go back to the holodeck together and try to develop a mystery that is totally original (in Holmsian style).Well, Geordi makes a major mistake by asking the computer to develop a character that is capable of defeating Data (as opposed to defeating Sherlock Holmes).Result; the computer makes a Prof. Moriarty who becomes fully self-conscious and fully capable of controlling the Enterprise from the holodeck. Then Dr. Pulaski get's kidnapped and Data and Geordi find Moriarty far more dangerous than they had expected (and of course, the safeguards are deactivated). Now Picard must go to the holodeck with Data and attempt to rescue the doctor and solve the issue...
3-0 out of 5 stars "Thank you for the tea and crumpets.I guess I'll be going."
"Elementary, Dear Data" is Star Trek:The Next Generation's second season entry in the ongoing "problems with the holodeck" saga.Yep, somehow the holodeck still is open for business after it went bonkers in the first season.Guess the word "lawsuit" is non-existent in the 24th century.
4-0 out of 5 stars A major philosophical point is largely ignored
This episode is more memorable for the extremely significant philosophical point that is largely ignored than it is for the dialog and battle between Data as Sherlock Holmes and a holographic Professor Moriarty. During a lull in duties, Geordi and Data retire to the holodeck where Data is Sherlock Holmes and Geordi is Dr. Watson. However, since Data has memorized all of the stories featuring Holmes, he quickly resolves the mysteries, which frustrates Geordi. In an attempt to spice up the game, Geordi instructs the holodeck computer to create an adversary capable of defeating Data in a battle of wits. The computer complies, creating a conscious, intelligent and self-aware Professor Moriarty, capable of programming the Enterprise computer and gaining control of the Enterprise, all from inside the holodeck.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature, dark and exiting in a subtle way
Episode title: Improbable Cause5-0 out of 5 stars Constable Odo investigates an attempt to blow up Garak
Garak's tailor shop is destroyed by an explosion and as Odo investigates the case becomes more and more complicated. It seems give other Cardassians were killed in similar explosions and all of them have ties to Enabran Tain, the former head of the Obsidian Order. It seems, not everybody on this side of the wormhole is waiting for the Dominion to attack.Actually, "Improbable Cause" is the first of two parts, to be continued in "The Die is Cast." As two-part episodes go, this is an above average set-up, but what makes this a great episode is that focuses on Garak and Odo, giving us several scenes featuring the two sparing as they try to figure out what is going on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garak and Odo!
Garak's shop is destroyed and it looks like someone is trying to kill him, Odo is called in to investigate, using his contacts on Cardassia it isrevealed that a lot of Garak's former 'associates' were eliminated. Odo andGarak take a Runabout and go deep inside Cardassian space where they findevidence of Romulan involvement. It becomes apparent that Garak'sdeath-threat is just a small piece of a bigger puzzle as a fleet ofCardassian ships decloak. It seems the Romulan's and Cardassian's arepreparing an attack force but who is the target? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars dillo's reviews from down under
This film screams.Released in Australia as REDHEADS, is is fast paced, a bit racy, and edge of your seat stuff.Co- starring one of Australia's best, Catherine McClements (Weekend with Kate, Water Rats(TV)) it shows a younger Claudia Karvan to her best acting advantage, a promice of things to come, as realised in Risk, Paperback Hero, Lust and Revenge, The Secret Life of Us (TV) and I am so glad I have this film in my collection, and I am yet to meet someone who is not bowled over by the gritty performances of the leading ladies, the storyline and the production as a whole.Definately NOT TO BE MISSED.

4-0 out of 5 stars Peformances/cinematography make this one to catch
Searing. That's the only word that can do justice to Claudia Karvan's performance in this film.Overall, the film is a solid little thriller/drama, with its dramatic stretches being far more interesting thanits thriller components. The performances all around are solid, and thedirector does some striking things with the photography, but it is Karvanpredominantly who raises this film from that realm of B-grade thrillersthat some of us have a weakness for into a surprisingly haunting, touchingfilm. Her performance as Lucy, a young, troubled woman who gets mixed upwith all the wrong people, achieves something few other actressesaccomplish (although they try plenty): she is believably tough andgenuinely vulnerable. So many actors generally fall flat with both, butKarvan cuts through everything to connect with the audience, alternatelyallowing her tough-girl persona to crack enough see the scared girlbeneath, but then letting that be pushed away again as she discovers realstrength beneath that. With a performance of this caliber, this moviepushes itself into the realm of dramas more than thrillers and is moregenuinely engaging than most over-wrought dramas. Definitely worth a look. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Brilliant Episodes from the 5th Season of Babylon Five
"Phoenix Rising" concludes the story arc begun in "Tragedy of Telepaths". President Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) and Captain Lochley (Tracy Scoggins) stall for time hoping to avert a bloody confrontation between Bester (Walter Koenig) and his bloodhound team of Psi Corps cops and Byron's (Robin Atkin Downes) rogue telepath colony. The tragic ending foreshadows a possible conflict between Psi Corps and the rogue telegraphs who've accepted Byron's leadership. And we see that all is not psychologically well with Michael Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle). In "Ragged Edge" G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas) returns to Babylon 5 with Londo Mollari (Peter Jurasik), unexpectedly finding that he has become a prophet worthy of veneration by his fellow Narns. And much to his dismay, he learns that his book has been published on Narn as "The Book of G'Kar", instantly becoming a religious bestseller. Meanwhile Garibaldi is sent on a mission to the Drazi home world, hoping to rescue a human pilot who has survived the latest raid by mysterious starships on interstellar shipping lanes. Without divulging further details, I will say that the episode draws to a close with Sheridan and Delenn (Mira Furlan) realizing who is behind these raids. Again, both episodes are replete with the fine writing and acting I've come to expect from series creator J. Michael Straczynski and the "Babylon 5" cast. Anyone hoping to see intelligent, first rate drama that is also great science fiction television won't be disappointed after watching these "Babylon 5" episodes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars With "Anasazi", the quintessential mythology series.
Incidentally, you do need to have "Anasazi" if you're going to have these follow-ups. (The accompanying "Humbug" is a great catch too--the first comedy.)Together, they comprise what is probably the most satisfying mythology three-parter of the series. This is in spite of the facts that the dynamic between the heroes is still in its kindling phases, and the production team is working on less than half the budget they would later pour into the slick fourth and fifth seasons.Carter doesn't have to pull too many paranormal rabbits out of his hat this early in the game to pack a punch, though he does shoot three big characters and kill two of them, and sprinkle some Navajo tradition into the mix. When the U.F.O. finally makes its appearence--the most blatant revelation in the show thus far--it is as big as in Close Encounters. The story starts to feel a little overloaded towards the end and then ends abruptly, but it does make you yearn for more, which I guess was the point in television writing. It marks a time when the show's mythology was still uncluttered and we still believed the revelations could only get better.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's always a game of chess with them....
Plot:A scout ship with a Romulan defector is attacked by Romulan Warbird and sends a distress signal. The Enterprise responds and beams aboard the Romulan defector, Setal. He claims that the Romulans are building a base on Nelvana 3, and within 48 hours, they'll launch an assault to take over the Neutral Zone.If the Enterprise destroys the base, then the crisis will be over.Well, no one really believes him at face value, but they double check with intelligence gathering and such.It turns out that the Romulan "Setal", is actually Admiral Jarok, a high ranking officer who has a history of engagements with the Federation. So, is this a plot for an excuse to start a war, or is the admiral telling the truth?
5-0 out of 5 stars Political intrigue among the stars!
Guest star James Sloyan is riveting as the "defector" in the episode's title. Almost like a companion piece to "Deep Space Nine's 'Duet'", the show is an exercise in the politics and machinations of war. 5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing is as simple as it seems in "The Defector"
When we saw the face of the first Romulan, memorably played by Mark Lenard, there was a strong element of quiet nobility associated with the character.Often on the original Star Trek the Romulans were reduced to a standard stereotype, the "Chinese" to the "Soviet" Klingons at odds with the Federation. But there are times when that initial nobility comes back, and there is no better example of this than "The Defector."This is one of the best Next Generation episodes because it is about "people" and not specific effects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garak must learn to kick his habit...
Garak and Bashir have these intriguing weekly lunches in which Garak spins lie after lie and Bashir tries to siphon out any shred of truth to find out more about Garak's past. While waiting at line at a restaurant at the Promenade, Garak shows signs that he is in pain. When Bashir asks him to come with him to sick bay, Garak refuses and is indignant and the two separate on a very sour note.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new insight to Garak and Bashir
Episode title: "The Wire"5-0 out of 5 stars Garak goes cold-turkey when he loses his brain implant
During one of his friendly little lunches with Dr. Bashir, Garak suffers the first of several seizures.Bashir discovers an implanet in the Cardassian tailor's brain, placed there to allow him to withstand torture by releasing endorphins. However, for the two years of his exile aboard DS9, Garak has been using the endorphins to get through each day.Bashir convinces Garak to turn off the device, and what happens is an unforgettable performance by Andrew Robinson as Garak becomes delirious, ranting and raving, weeping and screaming, as all his hidden thoughts and feelings come out.One of the reasons this is a first rate script is that by the end of the episode we still are not sure what new information we have learned about Garak. The character's mysterious background remains entact, along with his wry sense of humor. No wonder Garak is one of the finest recurring "minor" characters in the Star Trek universe. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Have you ever been to Dogville?
`Dogville' is a unique look at human interaction.Set in the town of Dogville where the people live in close quarters away from the rest of the world a young woman, a stranger, named Grace (Kidman) comes to escape a group of gangsters seeking her.Tom (Bettany), who feels he needs to be the moral guide to the town, feels that accepting Grace into their lives and helping her will help the town build character. So, with all in agreement, they give her two weeks to prove herself no danger to the community, and so with the help from Tom she begins to prove herself by doing jobs here and then for the community.
1-0 out of 5 stars The name says it all.
This experimental production was lurking in the Movie Section and so I rented it based on awards and on-box reviews. (major mistake) After scrolling through a couple scenes and getting confirmation from my sense that it all would be horrifically boring, (based on cheesy dialogue and claustrophic layout, I simply ejected it with the same weariness that might had beseiged me had I had watched it through its running time which is roughly one/eighth of a day. Even as an experiment this piece could have claimed less damage were it limited to 21 minutes tops. Three hours of it is cruelty. So what about all those awards? I just don't know. Maybe, after all, it's who you know.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 years later I'm still thinking about it
After thinking for a while, I decided that this actually is my favorite movie ever. It is long and not the kind of movie I'd watch over and over again, but no movie has ever had such a profound emotional impact on me and stayed in my mind for so long. I really couldn't stop talking about it and thinking about it weeks after I saw it. It is long and slow moving, which can be boring, but it makes the ending of the whole story so much sweeter. You really feel like you've truly gone through this whole journey with the main character through the traumatizing and the mundane. It seems a bit strange that the film basically has no props or set, just the outline of a town drawn on a stage, but I appreciated it in the end. You get so caught up in the whole thing that in the end you realize that it is just people on a stage (much more scarce than most plays you've ever seen.) It impressed me how the camera work, sets, etc. were not fancy at all. The most simplistic film affected me more than any other movie that has taken me to completely different places visually. You may get the urge to turn it off, but stick it out until the end and you will be satisfied. And it is not Anti- America as far as I can tell. It's about human nature and it could happen anywhere in any town. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Guilty Pleasure From My Twenties.
This movie isn't particularly good--it's a basic marriage of convenience and cheating tupperware party. It's still got great, funny moments even if it doesn't always make sense, but I wouldn't thumb my nose at it.I never saw the original nor, until looking up these reviews, did I even know there was one.Rebecca DeMornay is always beautiful, and her performance is actually quite hilarious in places. The situations are outrageous, and Vincent Spano is nice eye candy if not much else.Donovan Leitch's son also turns in a solid supporting role performance.
4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
It's particularly a great film, "And God Created Woman" never lacks in sheer entertainment value, and it will always be a cinematic landmark. It is a landmark not only because it caused such a scandal, but because the large box-office success of that scandal showed that audiences were willing and eager to see films that dealt openly with human sexuality, thus paving the way for the dismantling of film censorship boards, which allowed the international film industry to revolutionize cinematic subject matter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Two words.Frank Langella.
This is one of those laughably bad movies where you find yourself wondering how much worse it can get, and then it gets worse. Rebecca DeMornay does her best to summon a this-is-how-twenty-and-thirty-something-guys-think-a-sexy-wild-chick-looks-when-she's-having-sex persona, but really, she doesn't bring one iota of sensuality to the character. For a movie that's supposed to be all about sex, overall it's curiously un-sexy. There is one reason, and one reason only to sit through (the unrated version of) this movie -- Frank Langella. On the pool table. In the hot tub. On the floor. The only true depiction of desire and passion in the entire silly thing. In those all too brief scenes, he makes Vincent Spano's character look like a colorless, bloodless, bumbling schoolkid (not too difficult to do considering Spano's acting job), and it's just one part of the lunacy of this thing that she goes home to him when she has the glorious, magnificent masculinity of Frank Langella offered to her for the night. Are you kidding me?? He is a peerless actor who must surely count this clunker among the what-was-I-thinking parts of his resume, but he gets ten stars for turning in the movie's only moments of real passion. He invests the word "wait" with more sensuality than the entire rest of the cast in the entire movie combined!

5-0 out of 5 stars very funny
One of our friends had this so we saw it before and it is very funny! Bruce Bruce is hilarious, Earthquake and J Anthony were hilarious also. DL was funny too. Ricky Smiley wasn't that great but everyone else was hilarious. Me and husband like it so much we bought one. Anyone who is a fan of the early to mid 90's old school ComicView may enjoy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars slightly better than average
the only reason why this is better than Average to me is because of EarthQuake. he stole the show.Sommore was entertaining. Bruce,Bruce had moments as well. everything else was so-so to corny.but EarthQuake had me rolling from start to finish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Off the CHAIN
I really enjoyed this comedy video... I try really hard not to laugh when I see comedy... my point is comedians really have to bring it in order for me to enjoy their routine.I laughed my tail off as I viewed this video.I really enjoyed Earthquake and J Anthony Brown... especially his bit about the priests (forgive me all)... I even liked DL and historically in my opinion he isn't funny at all. Ricky Smiley didn't do much for me but 1 out of 5 or 6 isn't bad at all. They should have let Damon Williams (the comedian from Chicago who sat on the stool) perform... he is funnier that well you know... anyway buy it keep it... it's great for company to view... all my friends and family love it... HOLLA ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely a favorite
Without a doubt, Time's Arrow 1 and 2 are a favorite of mine.Part 2 starts the 6th season off with the finale of the Enterprise crew vs. energy-eating vampire aliens. We finally find out why Data's head was found in the cavern in part 1.And of course, it's fun seeing the interaction of our heroes with Mark Twain or Jack London.Plot:After the rest of the senior crew (barring Worf, which is a good thing, since it would have been a challenge to explain to someone about his alien appearance) step through the time portal, they have to track down the nasty alien-vampires and stop them. The humor is great, including Mrs. Carmichael address our dear captain as "Mr. Pickerd", Mark Twain's statement of seeing Worf, etc.I very enjoyable episode.

this is my favorite episode, It keeps me on the edge of my seat, I had to order it to complete my season. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Captain Picard and Mark Twain change places in Time
In "Time's Arrow, Part I," the fifth season's finale, Picard led an Away Team that followed a pair of alien predators into the past: 19th-Century San Francisco to be precise. There they join Data and Guinan (the Guinan of the past not the present Guinan who is still in the future).Together they discover the cave that would contain all of the artifacts, including Data's head, which were found in the 24th-Century at the start of this story.Unfortunately, at the key moment Samuel Clemens (Jerry Hardin) intervenes and the time portal opens. The resulting blast sends Data's body, but not his head, back to the future.Picard stays behind to take care of a wounded Guinan, while the rest of the team follows Data's body, quickly followed by Clemens.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Romance is alive and well!
I watched this film on a bad day and by the end of the movie i was feeling much better, it was lovely watching Elizabeth Taylor's character realise the mistakes she made and the music was fabulous, the film was one that Elizabeth Taylor herself said it should never have gone before a camera, but I'm so glad it did because it left a lasting impression and I would buy it in a second if it was on DVD....Acting was good, Music was good, Story Line was good, it will work for you if you are a true romantic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Movie all around!!!
This movie demonstrates the results of a big ego and of looking out only for your own wants and needs... then the second half shows how being a
