4-0 out of 5 stars A Cute Tale
A cute tale about a young boy staying overnight at a motel with his parents, when he meets a furry little friend who resides inside the wall of his motel room. The boy and mouse help one another out in nice ways, making the stay enjoyable for both boy and mouse. Only the mouse and his family are animated in this film. Very good actors perform in the film, some of which are familar faces. My 8-year-old son enjoyed the movie, but my 10-year-old daughter was somewhat bored. The only qualm I had was I thought the voice of the mouse sounded somewhat overly "cutesy", borderline corny. The boy's voice was more mature than the mouse's. Overall, a nice family show for viewing with younger children.

Three separate story lines set in Africa eventually come together in this 1980 film by Jamie Uys. (The film wasn't released in the U.S., where it became a huge hit, until 1984.) Story one involves a bushman whose discovery of a Coke bottle causes consternation among his tribe, story two concerns an awkward romance between a clumsy scientist and a sweet schoolteacher, and the third plot involves a group of terrorists on the run. Slapstick, satire, romance, violence--it's all here in a somewhat bumpy but entertaining movie. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gods Must Be Crazy
Does anyone remember this film about the Coke bottle that was dropped on a tribe of African bushmen, changing their lives forever? I had only very vague memories, but it's finally available on DVD. Slapstick yet intelligent, offbeat yet eminently enjoyable. You don't hear those adjectives together very often, do you? The author has obviously spent much time in Africa. Bushman N!xau is simply wonderful, and I love the clicking language he speaks. The rhinos are great too.
5-0 out of 5 stars good movie with funny, unboring plot
I watched this on tv and thought it would be boring but it combined humour, african culture and different settings all together. My favourite parts were when the car brakes weren't working and when all the terrorists were put to sleep. Definitely recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful, Charlie Chapman like, tells a story of family values
Xixo, the bushman runs for two days to rescue his two children and with tears flowing down his eyes, he reunites with his two children. The two children's curiosity finds them on top of the water wagon being pulled by a ivory pouches truck. Xixo, reads the tracks, interprets that his children are captives of the truck, and begins his run. Xixo, will cross paths with Anne, a Cuban, a African militant, a delirious Stephen, and briefly be detained by the two poachers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
This is the funniest movie I've ever seen, bar none!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite movie of all time!!! A joy to watch.
The funny thing is that I didn't consciously go out of my way to watch this movie. Now that I've watched it, I'm so glad that I decided to rent it when I happened to see it on the shelf at the video store. In my opinion, this is the most beautiful movie ever made. Of course it is funny, as most people would imagine. The real gem in this picture, however, is the subplot of the bushman, Xi, and his young children becoming seperated, and their long and eventful journey to reunion. Not only does Xi lose his kids but the two of them, a sister and a younger brother, also become seperated from each other in the vast and barren Kalahari dessert. Their journey then becomes even more daring as their fate, particularly that of the younger child, hangs in the balance. But true to the inspirational story that is this movie, their courage and devotion to each other never wane. Though they face overwhelming odds, they will stop at nothing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of one another. These three brave souls, Xi and his children, exemplify the meaning of loyalty and family. Though this is just a movie, their love for each other touched my heart and brought me to tears, as movies can often do to all of us. As far as I'm concerned, however, this movie is the most special of them all. One cannot help but cry as you see them leap into each others arms upon their tearful reunion. It is often said that there is no stronger love than that of a parent for their child and this movie is testament to that. I believe that this movie holds a very important message for every family and furthermore for all of humanity. Do yourself a favour and buy it....you'll be glad that you did. ... Read more

LADY L is a film about an octogenarian aristocrat (Sophia Loren) who reminisces about her steamy life as lover of an anarchist (Paul Newman) and wife of the sophisticated David Niven. Hi, people! If you liked the TV special The Mouse and the Motorcycle(1986), yu'll really like this 1988 TV special! They were both based on novels written by Beverly Cleary, a children's author. It's about a mouse named Ralph who runs away from home on his toy motorcycle, and stops at a summer camp. There, he meets a lonely boy named Garfield (Fred Savage, later of "The Wonder Years") and they become friends.Well, I don't want to spoil it, so this is all I'm going to tell you about the story.5-0 out of 5 stars They don't get any better than this

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun And Entertaining Horror Spoof!
This is a highly recommended film. "Tremors" is one of those type of films that is recommended for one of those relaxing and fun afternoons you just want to laugh and not take things too seriously. (Fred Ward) and his best friend (Kevin Bacon) give outstanding performances as two not-too-bright friends who happen to stumble upon a creature [much like a giant worm] that is eating their town away--literally! And not just the town, but the occupants also. This is a very recommended film. It is not gory [not too much anyhow] and the silliness is a warm and welcome relief. Further, the film is not just a horror flick in the usual sense, but horror with lot's of comedy. Fred Ward's character had me in stitches several times.
5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny
I thought this movie was hilarious. The two main characters Val and Earl were the best part. Everytime they tried to leave Perfection, something would stop them. "We just waited one day too long to leave"

TREMORS is arguably the best science-fiction/monster movie of at least the past quarter-century -- only ALIENS, a different sort of beast altogether, comes close.Avoid the sequels (you have been warned), but don't miss the perfectly written, mounted, directed, and acted original. ... Read more

Robert Downey Jr. has never been more charming than in this comedy about a yuppie who is revisited in adulthood by the spirits of four people who had been his friends as a child. The ghosts (Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Tom Sizemore) all have unfinished business in this world before they can move on to the next, and Downey's character agrees to let them inhabit his body while they sort it all out. The appealing cast alone strongly recommends this movie, but Downey's remarkable facility for physical comedy--manifesting the personalities of his supernatural pals as they possess him--is a riot. Elisabeth Shue makes the best of her part as the hero's girlfriend; Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Homemade DVD quality
It is indeed outrageous that Billy Budd--certainly one of the top 10 films of all time, offering the best career performances of Ustinov, Ryan, and Stamp--has yet to be released on a real studio-mastered DVD. This version is unbelievable! It appears that someone ran the old VHS copy through a DVD dubbing machine and called it good. The disc itself looks like a bootleg: computer-burned (purple dye), no menus or even chapter stops, so you can only fast-forward through the film to jump to specific parts. It's also been cut by about 3 minutes (presumably to fit just under 2 hours--though the disc could hold more, having been burned at "LP" quality, not "SP"). Billy Budd is such a perfectly made film, that any cuts are detrimental and very noticeable. It's also squeezed into the 4:3 format (it was originally filmed in widescreen Cinemascope), and no one, of course, bothered to clean up the film. The whole DVD is a mess and not worth the 20+ dollars it's going for. Unfortunately, it's the only version available--which is a crime! Whoever has the rights to this masterpiece, please do a decent job on it and release it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Expensive
This is a fine movie, but greatly overpriced for a final product on DVD.To be honest, when I looked at the playing side of the disc, I thought I had purchased a bootleg, a pirated copy of the original DVD release.Judging from the comments of other purchasers, however, I see that that isn't the case.If you must have this DVD, I recommend purchasing it from one of the dealers on Amazon who will sell it to you for less.Considering the poor picture quality and lack of extras, the disc is really worth around $10 or less, as far as I'm concerned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Movie 5, DVD 0 - Goodbye to you, old "Rights of Man"
"Billy Budd" is based on Herman Melville's last novel, and is a story of morality, military duty and social responsibility.

Three middle-age buddies (Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, Bruno Kirby) facing personal crises decide to sign up for a two-week cattle run for a change of pace. The trail proves a tougher place than anyone thought, and the boss (Jack Palance) is a grizzled taskmaster who doesn't cotton to tenderfoot urbanites. Popular in theaters, the film is both funny and moving, with Crystal giving one of his most complete performances and Palance (who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) a lot of colorful fun. This movie was sensational to say the least.Road To Galveston is the story of a woman who loses her husband and is driven to make a living for herself. The career that she chooses is one in which she provides care for Alzheimers patients. The touching thing about this movie is that it is extremely informative. It depicts three separate stages of this dreadful disease: the beginning, intermediate, and advanced stages. It also provides a clear understanding of the challenges that family members must endure as they watch their loved-one yeild to this disease.I recommend this movie to anyone who is faced with the unfortunate challenge of providing care to someone who has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. It will prepare you for the journey that, if understood, does not have to be so dreadful. In this movie, Cicely teaches us how to love those less fortunate than us through their circumstances. The sound track is really nice as well.It will make you laugh and cry!

Who could ever think, that different kind of animals react like human beings? If you watch this documentary, you will see a side of animal behaviors you never saw before in a funny way. It is interesting to see how male ostriches dance for the females or how elephants, baboons and kudus can get drunk from an overripe fruit. Jamie Uys did a wonderful job to capture with the camera all kind of animals at the right time and edited with the perfect background music. Even that this documentary is a few years old, I love to watch it over and over again. This is a perfect entertainment animal movie for the whole family.

the movie I received was not what I expected, I had seen it on TV years ago and what I got was completely different, the one I saw had giraffes that were drunk with the fruit hippos, or elephants that were drunk, monkeys laying on the ground drunk, it was hillarious and the one that i got from you was not the movie I saw at all, I was very dissapointed, and wish I could find the one that was very funny throughout the movie. Is there a possibility that you know what I'm talking about and maybe I could get the right picture?.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In Appreciation of Bruno Kirby
Bruno Kirby passed away not too long ago...wow...it really kind of blew me away...he was so young and talented and still had so much to offer the world. But we must not be overly sad at his death, we must know and feel that even now the life that Bruno Kirby was/is/and will always be is doing even greater things...

4-0 out of 5 stars deaf and dumb, too
This TVM directed by Michael Toshiyuki Uno is notable for how Laura Linney steals the tube, as the daughter of Joanne Woodward as Washington congressman faced with the issue of drug addiction. The use of real life pictures of Woodward with her own daughter, and the fact that she co-produced, tells you that the subject has personal significance for Woodward. Unfortunately for her the teleplay by Nina Shergold, based on a story by Michael McTaggart and Ellen M Violett, presents Woodward as a harridan, evidence of the negative effects of a working mother. At one point Fritz Weaver as her husband says "Trying to reason with you is like standing in front of a bulldozer". If the idea of making the drug addict a torch singer who idolises Billie Holliday is perhaps rather overstated, the teleplay also raises a generational comparison between drug taking and alcoholism. The music score by Patrick Williams is used to lovely effect in one scene, when a baby is first held, but otherwise we get soaked in inspirational uplift. Watch for Patti D'Arbanville, and Allison Janney.

3-0 out of 5 stars Strong Performances, Strong Message
Joanne Woodward gives a strong performance as a determined, sometimes domineering, yet well-meaning congresswoman coping with her daughter's drug addiction on the eve of announcing her run for the U.S. Senate. Woodward (who earned an Emmy nomination for this film, which she also co-produced) and Laura Linney, who portrays her substance addicted daughter, show the strong love/hate dynamics in their character's relationship. Linney, (later co-starring opposite Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show," and earning an Oscar nomination for "You Can Lean on Me") gives a heartfelt, unflinching portrait of a woman struggling to deal with her substance abuse/recovery as she asserts her independence from her mother, and Woodward superbly brings to life yet another strong, intelligent female character in her long line of smart, well-chosen, and expertly acted roles. The sensitive, intelligent script by Nina Shengold pulls no punches in illustrating the debilitating side of drug use, yet is never preachy. Read more

This irreverent Santa breaks from tradition in many ways. He has noMrs., owns only four reindeer, and decides to convert his sleigh into an airborne motor home for a pre-Christmas vacation. He finds France too snooty, Scotland too cold, and Las Vegas just right. Tanned and rested, he returns to the North Pole in time to sort through the mail, pack up the toys, and hit the skies. Like the Santa of the Raymond Briggs book on which this 24-minute video is loosely based, he narrates his own story (splendidly voiced by Los Angeles stage actor William Dennis Hunt). But fans of the 1973 book will find the animated version far less cranky than the original. Although the book was aimed at ages 4-8, the video may have a wider appeal, depending on how you feel about the children seeing Santa gambling at the casino tables, dreaming of bikini-clad babes, and suffering a bout of diarrhea. 1-0 out of 5 stars Outrageously INNAPROPRIATE and CRASS!!!
My daughter innocently brought this book home from her school library hoping to have a nice Santa book the week before Christmas.Unfortunately, this book isn't even a story, intead it is a cartoon strip about a grumpy Santa swearing throughout his Christmas chores. One panel depicts Santa with his pants down around his ankles while using the toilet.Apparently, the only thing that make this Santa happy is booze.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most memorable, enjoyable books I read as a child.
A friend of my mother's gave me this when I was very small. I remember most my mother's happiness in reading it to me and because of that it has always been a dear memory to me. I had forgotten about the book when I happened upon it a few years ago and bought it in the hope that one day I would have a child I could share it with. This year, I can't wait to introduce it to my 14 month old daughter even though she is probably too young to appreciate it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse and the Motorcycle 2!
There, he meets a lonely boy named Garfield (Fred Savage, later of "The Wonder Years") and they become friends.Well, I don't want to spoil it, so this is all I'm going to tell you about the story.5-0 out of 5 stars They don't get any better than this
This classic needs to be in every video library. Children of all ages will find this movie irresistable. I'm ordering my 4th copy because friends and family have a cute way of begging my copy away from me and ironically, Ihave no children. When guests come over, a guaranteed way to capture theattention of their unruly children is to put this in the VCR.It usuallycaptures the attention of the adults too.Unfortunately, the film is only45 minutes long. ... It's hard to believe, but I never heard of Wind in the Willows until I was about 16 years old, when it was first read aloud to me, around a glowing campfire. It was an instant love affair.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Wind in the Willows
The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, was originally a series of bedtime stories for Grahame's son.It is still commonly considered to be a children's book, but it is too difficult for young children to read themselves, and many older children will no longer appreciate the simple themes it covers.I imagine that its chief appeal is to adults, although children might enjoy having some parts of the book read to them.
5-0 out of 5 stars a beautiful and funny English classic
Although it is very funny, and it is about talking animals that drive cars, "The Wind in the Willows" is not suitable for four to eight year olds to read on their own. That would be the Disney cartoon version, not the book, which is pretty sophisticated for such a young age group. It is great to read aloud, however, and for older kids who love nature and humor, "The Wind in the Willows" could lead to a lifetime love of books."The Wind in the Willows" reminds me of the Victorian humor book "Three Men in a Boat", because both are about the adventures of a group of wacky English bachelors messing about in boats on the river. It is funny, with real slapstick comedy, and it is also touching, because it deals with friendship and loyalty, and beautiful, because it is about nature, and love of the countryside and home. ... Beau Bridges won a well deserved Emmy for his portrayal of James Brady, the US presidential Press Secretary who was critically wounded and leftdisabled for life in the 1981 Ronald Reagan assassination attempt, anattempt in which Reagan himself was also wounded. The film's real successlies with the dramatic and compelling depiction of how Brady and his lifeattempted to rebuild their lives under the international spotlight, and ithighlighted the fact that the National Rifle Association, one of the mostpowerful pro-gun lobby groups in the world, would rather have us forget -that not everyone deseves to have the privilege of gun ownership. ...
