3-0 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD SEQUEL, BUT WHY AIN'T IT ON DVD YET?
IN THIS 1991 FOLLOW-UP TO THE 1982 CULT CLASSIC, AN EVIL SORCERER NAMED ARKLON [WINGS HAUSER], WHO HAPPENS TO BE DAR'S LONG LOST BROTHER, TEAMS UP WITH A WITCH [SARAH DOUGLAS] TO TRAVEL TO MODERN-DAY L.A. WITH A PLAN TO GET A NEUTRON DETONATOR THAT WILL BLOW UP THE WORLD AND DAR [MARC SINGER] MUST STOP HIM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. A LITTLE SILLY AT TIMES, BUT THIS SEQUEL IS OK. IT SURE DOESN'T COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL, BUT IT'S GOOD IF YOU'RE IN THE MOOD FOR ANOTHER LOOK AT THE BEASTMASTER. ONLY ONE QUESTION; WILL THIS ONE EVER BE ON DVD?!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good movie, [bad] tape, poor picture quality !
This movie is fantastic. The only problem I have with this VHS Cassette is that they recorded it using Extended Play (EP). That means they sacrificed picture quality to fit the movie on less video tape. It's a very [poor] trick. If you plan to buy this movie (which, again is great !!!) please wait for the DVD because this VHS version has poor picture quality.

Your Mission Jim Should You Decide to Accept It! 5-0 out of 5 stars The Council
This originally aired as a two part show. The theme is organized crime which later became a repeated theme as the show aged and budgets got tighter. This, however, was in the early years with a big budget and MAJOR excitment.Cinnamon plays a cosmetologist doing a plastic surgery job in front of a host of "bad guys".The show is riviting with an unforgetable finale. If you're an MI fan this is a must see!

I am a big fan of this series and have been for many years. With this volume having some of the best episodes of the series. The gadgets and all the action and great storylines that never seemed to go over the top of theviewer's crediablity. The remake of The original "MISSIONIMPOSSIBLE" t.v series wasn't that good i don't think it could evercome close to the remarkable sucess of it's predecessor. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Combine medieval knights with some (relatively) grown-up Power Rangers, throw in dragons and two-headed dogs, and update the story with female and African American warriors, and you've got a politically correct fantasy for today's kids. This 85-minute movie is an outgrowth of the FoxKids half-hour television series. The four titular knights find their quests for custom-made armor laden with special powers constantly interrupted by the evil Queen Maeve, who is determined to wrest the kingdom from the king, father of female knight (and princess!) Deirdre. Filmed on location in Ireland and sportingcomputer-animated effects, this tale should appeal to the youngDungeons-and-Dragons male crowd, as well as young females looking for a more proactive role model than the traditional Arthurian maiden. I like Aileen also since she can go in my mouth. I would be carefulunless she'd been bad. Then I would chew, chew, chew her gently. Fairy fairy fairy! She is so little and small.

Aideen is a fairy. Fairies are cool. Fairy, fairy, fairy. She could fit in my mouth. When she gets dirty, I can bathe her in my mouth. I would be careful, she would be o.k. And shiny clean!

5-0 out of 5 stars Please release season one on DVD!!
My kids love this video and loved the series when it was on Fox.Unfortunately, we discovered the TV series towards the end of the season right before it was cancelled. My kids would love to watch the whole season one (they have watched this video countless times).Mystic knights is a fun video that doesn't take itself too seriously. The monsters aren't too scary, the heroes always win, and good values are somehow mixed in with the lot. There is of course a wizard, and valuation of powers not from God - a warning for those of you who find that offensive. But there is a good strong female character, and a black character who is very positively portrayed as a king's son who is trying to save his people. ... I don't know why anyone would be offended by anything on this program. If you get offended by any joke here, you're TOO SENSITIVE, LIGHTEN UP, LAUGH BEFORE YOU FREEZE YOURSELF TOO DEATH, AND BUY THIS DVD.Besides Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Chris Rock, and Bill Maher, the spirit of this type comedy knows unparalleled genius for its refusal to compromise.Today's comics take note:this is the formula, not your overly safe filler. Can we get a return to honest to life comedy?

5-0 out of 5 stars Pardners
"Pardners" has always been my favorite Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie. The combination of this famous team's humor and song, along with a western setting make for an enjoyable time. Some excellent character actors in supporting roles, including Jeff Murrow, add to the western action. I'm glad others have commented on the closing where Dean and Jerry speak directly to the audience about continuing to come and see their films. I saw this in a theater just months before their famous breakup and the irony has stayed with me. Optimist that I am, I kept hoping for M & L to reunite for more films. Never happened, but thankfully we have this and other Martin & Lewis films on tape and hopefully one day, restored on DVDs.
3-0 out of 5 stars Dean and Jerry on the Range
"Pardners" (1956) was Martin and Lewis' next-to-last film and it remains among their best. A loose remake of Bing Crosby's "Rhythm on the Range" (1936), this breezy western comedy has the duo in good form, with a strong supporting cast featuring Agnes Moorehead and Lon Chaney Jr. Unlike "Hollywood or Bust" (the team's farewell appearance), Dean and Jerry were on speaking terms during the production and their on-screen rapport is evident from beginning to end. One of the film's most memorable (and ironic) scenes has Martin and Lewis taking aim at the final credits, while assuring their fans that they will continue to make beautiful cinema together. It didn't turn out that way, but you have to admire Dean and Jerry for breaking up at the height of their phenomenal success -- rather than face the downhill trajectory that greeted most comedy teams.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best of Martin & Lewis
This video is hard to find, except through Amazon.Worth the price. Soundtrack is one of the better ones, if you can find it, as well. Dean Martin, for western fans, was a very good gun handler (as well as a finesinger) and you get a glimpse of hisskill in this flick.I agree withthe previous reviewer, the end credits are fun to watch. As always, theplot of M & L movies are far-reaching, but if you are watching a M& L movie for the plot, go back to reading Webster's Dictionary.Ifyou half-way like M & L, half-way like comedies or half-way likewesterns, you'll enjoy this movie. Buy it before it's so far out-of-printthat you'll never find it. Enjoy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The nostalgia of the future!
Alain Tanner is the most conspicuous Belgium filmmaker. His visible influences come fundamentally from Jean Luc Godard. The insertion of admirable thoughts supported by excellent micros fit with impressive eloquence. Images and text integrate this wonderful film.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most intriguing films of all time
I disagree with some of the reviews posted on Jonah in that the themes of the film are outdated and that the characters are not as well-develped as they should be. I believe that the film is DEFINITELY NOT outdated because it revolves around people and the ideas, thoughts, and wisdom that human beings can give to their fellow man and woman. Sure, the politics are not the same in Europe anymore, but did you honestly believe that the political climate of Europe in 1976 would still be relevant in 2004, 28 years after the film was made? 5-0 out of 5 stars jonah jonah jonah

At last, the complete version of Andrei Tarkovski's 1966 masterpieceabout the great 15th century Russian icon painter (a film suppressed by the Soviet Union and unseen until 1971) is available. 5-0 out of 5 stars Holy.
Like the review I just read, Tarkovskies' ANDRE RUBLEV is the movie that I keep coming back to over the years. It is my favorite film and has been until something as special comes along.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Long Journey of an Artist
Andrei Rublyov (1969) by Andrei Tarkovsky is my number 1 (shares with Tarkovsky's Zerkalo) film of all time. It is a pinnacle of film-making for me - one of few most visually beautiful films as well as one of the deepest films ever. The beauty of every frame is exquisite - I have to pause film very often just to admire it.There are only couple of more films that have touched me as profoundly as Andrei Rublyov did. I am always surprised to hear that it is very slow film - for Tarkovsky, it is very well paced, and I am never tired of its 3+ hours running time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Acts of Faith
In its take-no-prisoners approach to filmmaking, Andrei Rublev reminds me of Francis Ford Coppola's self-indulgent masterpiece, Apocalypse Now.Tarkovsky's film is a biography of a fifteenth century monk renowned for his painted religious icons.Rublev was Russia's equivalent of Michelangelo, and some of the works attributed to him display a formidable beauty which is all the more remarkable because they were created during a rude and violent time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Male Maid
Good movie! There is a scene where Sheen is playing the piano and singing a real cute song for kids. However, I wish I knew how to get a copy of that song. The relationship between Sheen and the little girl was precious. The story is about a working MoM who needs a sitter tio take care of her daughter.Sheen finds an attraction to the MOM and tries to get noticed by trying out for the position.Good dynamics between child and adult playing out power struggles are displayed. I expected something more from the ending. It could have pushed the dilm to higher levels of awards and creative achievement had they put a forward to daughters wedding and make Sheen an older Father, so thatit could be implied his role modeling a Dad meant something like love or happiness for the daughter. I give this film (3 stars ***)Not five, but couldn't remove the two.

5-0 out of 5 stars A light hearted Martin Sheen gem
Martin Sheen doesn't need me to introduce him, but this romantic comedy is one of his lesser known films which deserves to be better known. The plot is very light - a banker arriving in Paris for a new job is attracted by a colleague (Jacequeline Bisset) but does not reveal to her that he is a financier too, and instead takes on a job as the maid for her apartment, and nanny for her young daughter in order to get close to her. Martin Sheen is a joy to behold in this film, and has excellent lines too. The eventual attraction between hero and heroine is built up carefully, and at the end is convincing. The film is also a great tutorial for men on how to behave with their young children ! A sweet film which I can strongly recommend. Bisset appears as attractive and feminine as ever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this Doris Day movie!
I love Doris Day movies for the sets, the clothes, and -- most of all -- all of the laughs and fun.It is just completely entertaining.I am always amazed by her ability to make movies work, especially when there was nothing like action, violence, or sex, that hooked her audiences in.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Glass Bottom Boat
All Doris Day fans would enjoy this comedic film spoof of the spy films of the 1960's.Lots of other great comedians in this film as well -- Arthur Godfrey, Dom DeLuis, Dick Martin, and Paul Lynde, to name a few.I love this light-hearted little film, and it brings back some nice memories of the 1960's.

1-0 out of 5 stars 1960s garbage.
Doris Day shamelessly mugs in front of the camera like she's a 20-year-old, the jokes make "The Brady Bunch" look like high comedy, and the sexist undertones to the whole affair are just offensive. Amazing to think drivel like this was being produced while the Vietnam War was spiralling out of control. Totally depressing! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Live with Him, Can't Live without Him
This episode deals quite seriously (and often in a lovely lyrical fashion) with the serious consequences (for Catherine) of her relationship with Vincent. On the 20th anniversary of her mother's death, Catherine isovercome with a sense of hopelessness about her life. The problem seems tobe...Vincent.She must confront the fact that their relationship isclosing her off from life possibilities for which she has always longed. As he tells her, "Our dream exists at the cost of all your otherdreams."Her pain is so great that (in an extremely powerful scene)the superhumanly chivalrous Vincent gives her the breakup she sodesperately needs (though doing so, for him, is akin to ripping his heartout of his chest). It is a breakup she could never, ever, bring herself todirectly ask for.It takes time away from Vincent for Catherine to come toa realization of what in her life is indeed "worth everything."She makes her choice, and she and Vincent (and we) derive great joy fromthat decision.I've never (before or since) experienced such joy at thefinish of an episode of a TV series!5-0 out of 5 stars One of the series finest episodes.
Twenty years after her mother's death, Catherinere-evaluates her life and her relationship with Vincent.Beautifully written and acted, Linda Hamilton gives an amazing performance as her character sinks deeper intodespair as she is slowly torn between two worlds. This is a must-seeepisode for anyone who has watched (or is even familiar with) Beauty andthe Beast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intro episode to a fabulous new version of an old faerytale.
A modern day woman is drawn into a world of fantasy and things that cannot be possible, yet are oh, so very real. Injured and left to die in Central Park, Catherine Chandler is rescued by Vincent, a very unique, gentlebeing, who brings her to his world, to heal. His world consists of alabyrinth of subterrean tunnels, peopled by those society has eitherdiscarded or left to die alone and in poverty. Here, Catherine learns thetrue meaning of caring, committiment, and love. She also learns that aperson's looks are truly 'only skin deep', and it is ones soul which givesan inner beauty and strength which is both lasting and incorruptable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding And Unforgettable Film!
I liked this film when I first viewed it, [it was so different] and it still holds up great today. There have been countless reviews of this film, so I will be brief. When this film was released in 1992, it was new. The originality was totally different and the characters were hilarious. Since that time, the film industry have come out with many films trying to be similar. However, this one was the first. It is also one of the greatest crime-thriller-suspense films ever released. The characters and dialogue are unforgettable. Not only that, but the ensemble of the actors for the film pulled it off magnificantly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Quentin Tarantino's debut masterpiece
Never has such a movie with so much talking and so little action has given me such a rush like this movie. Quentin Tarantino's Resevoir Dogs is an example of the way movies should be these days. This movie doesn't get by with over the top action sequences and bloody fist fights like most other crime based movies do( don't get me wrong, there are quite a few gun fights in this movie) but instead gives us a well structured movie showing the aftermath of an almost failed diamond heist.
4-0 out of 5 stars Quentin's best film....great the first time...subsequent viewings, not so good...
When I saw this film, I really liked it.It was visceral, interesting, and unforgettable. It's a film of great style, but it's completely void of substance and has no depth. While you marvel at it the first time, subsequent viewings reveal that it is really a shallow piece of cinema, and hollow to its very core.It indulges in its violence, while pretending to have the characters care about each other. The "friendship" between Tim Roth and Harvey Keitel's characters isn't believable at all. There's merely one scene in which they look at the bank they're going to rob, make a joke about a chick, say "let's get a taco", and that's it.Now we're supposed to believe their friends, and that Keitel is willing to die for his friend. One would hardly think this would form a bond so strong. It's almost like Quentin said "ok, they have to have a bonding scene here", and he thought of the most generic one he could think of.The out of time structure is not especially original, as it has been done before (and much better) in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America, Stanley Kubrick's The Killing, and Clint Eastwood's Bird). Some of the characters have that arrogant smugness that permeated many films in the 1990's as well. So, is it still good?Yes, you should see it once or twice, but don't expect to resonate over the years like great films usually do...

3-0 out of 5 stars The Prisoner of Zenda: This Version Still Enjoyable
There is a category of film that Hollywood cannot, from time to time, resist making--that of the historical costume drama.Director Richard Thorpe took THE PRISONER OF ZENDA novel by Anthony Hope, updated and colorized the superior 1937 version with Ronald Coleman, and cast Stewart Granger in the double role as the King of Ruritania and his twin, cousin Rudolph. What marks both versions is the dashing swashbuckling that Errol Flynn first popularized in the early 30's.True, Ronald Coleman possessed a sense of dash that Stewart Granger could only emulate rather than stamp with his own screen persona.Granger is a distant lookalike cousin of the King of the mythical country of Ruritania, who is kidnapped by the evil henchman (James Mason) of the king's brother.Granger impersonates the king and falls predictably in love with Princess Flavia (Deborah Kerr), who is bound to marry the reigning king. The plot is nonsense, of course. The audience slides in with surprising grace to accept that Flavia and Rudolph fall instantly in love. What marks this version of Zenda is the witty wordplay by all concerned.Everyone in the cast all seem to have graduated from Eton and dress and speak impeccably at all times.James Mason as the roguish underling of the king's plotting evil brother radiates the same suave aura of menace that has come to mark his essential screen persona. The chatty dueling scene between Granger and Mason is an updated reprisal of a similar scene between Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone in THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD.Deborah Kerr is, unfortunately, quite listless as she is merely a prop to further a rather slight plot complication.Jane Greer as her female counterpart who loves the king's brother is even less of a screen presence.Still, in costume dramas like this one, the willing suspension of disbelief is rendered easier by a combination of verbal repartee and old-fashioned cinematic fun that draws in the audience to overlook a series of increasingly improbable plot devices.Coleman's earlier Prisoner simply had a bit more zip and zowie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Paging Ronald Colman !
Comparisons to the 1937 classic are inevitable. Story-wise, there is little difference except for the colonization of the remake. Many of the frames are carbon copies of each other. This reviewer feels that the b&w format of the original added to the suspense. The original cast is clearly superior especially the male leads of Ronald Coleman, David Niven and C. Aubrey Smith. Also, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. outshines James Mason as Rupert of Hentzau, the main bad guy. (I wonder if a stunt man performed that high dive.) A nice gesture is the cameo role of Lewis Stone, the star of the 1922 SILENT version. It is the 1952 female leads who compare most favorably: Deborah Kerr comes very close to equaling Madeleine Carroll as the lovely Queen Flavia, with her strong (!) sense of duty. And Jane Greer probably surpasses Mary Astor's 1937 role. Both Mary and Jane are key to the plot. Watch them closely! Blessedly, despite the many frame similarities, the remake does not carbon copy the 1937 fadeout, with Ronald Coleman's gallant wave of farewell. On its' own merits, the 1952 version is a very credible adventure story indeed. It only suffers from comparison to an original classic it cannot possibly surpass.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good movie!
I highly recommend this film.Stewart Granger, James Mason, and Deborah Kerr are great in it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars kung fu:the legend begins
this is the one that you see in commercials and in other movies and in clips on the show of the same name.a very influential movie!theres a small kid who goes into kung fu training with an old blind man.then he gets big and goes to america after killing his masters killer.he gets a job in the railroad and runs into problem after problem the whole movie long!kids like it.its better than the karate kid movies and a lot of the newer jackie chan movies although jackie has better too.it beats out anything by chuck norris or van damme or segal.bruce lee does better.you can actualy learn a lot of the basic things about kung fu by listening to the old man talk.the star is david carridine.he does quite well in his role.i liked death race 2000,and the kill bill set better but liked this one better than cannonball.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time
Excellent series still stands up for modern viewing. Still a refreshing take on the "Western" as a concept with some wonderful anti-racism statements. Only one clunker episode in the set: "The Tide," which seems more like a Bonanza script than anything else. High-calibre scripts and direction. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Broadway Melody of 1940
Classic Fred Astaire, romantic triangle with George Murphy and the extraordinary Eleanor Powell, fabulous dances, cinematic artistry in B&W, something special, ends with Astaire and Powell dancing to Begin the Beguine, will take your breath away, rocket your spirit, smiles, smiles, smiles!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time Astaire favorites...
As far as I'm concerned, no one -but no one- tops Fred Astaire in dance. But that's not all he did well musically. In fact, his dancing was so superb and was so heralded by his peers and the public that it seems to have blinded everyone's eyes to his underappreciated abilities as a vocalist. The man was not a shabby singer. Most of the renowned songwriters of his day (Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, the Gershwins)preferred to write lyrics and tunes specifically for Mr. Astaire because of his knack for phrasing and personalising a song. And let's not forget how capably the man performed with various musical instruments (drums, piano, accordion...).
4-0 out of 5 stars The Sublime and the Ridiculous
Most of this movie is terrible, but who's complaining? The epically long "Begin the Beguine" is the climax of the movie & it makes the whole mess worthwhile. The last 11 minutes of this movie are mind-blowingly great -- absolute perfection. The sets, the cinematography, the costumes, the orchestrations & the extraordinary routine itself -- everything combines to make "Begin the Beguine" the most ravishing, glamorous black & white production number ever put on film. It's Hollywood at its apogee, the quintessence of silver screen glamor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Agonized Poetry Visualized Exquisitely
Frida is luscious eye candy from beginning to end; so beautiful it could be enjoyed without sound. This is due to its subject, its star, and its director, Julie Taymor, who also gave us the astounding Titus.(If you have not yet seen Titus, do so before finishing this review - it is an art director's tour de force on a par with Brazil.)
5-0 out of 5 stars You can get lost in this Bio-Pic
You can immediately feel that you are a part of history and even when you know their (Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera) story you still get surprised amused and amazed. I have seen their actual work and this film brings it back. For people that do not know their story this is an excellent introduction. I found it interesting how Frida (Selma Hayek) and Diego (Alfred Molina) complimented each others personality so well from the beginning until where we leave them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Captivating Drama
Frida is a good film that has some brilliant moments of artistry throughout.Schoolgirl Frida Kahlo hidden from view, chides portly painter Diego Rivera for being fat just as he is about to have his passionate way with his nude art model.Salma Hayek does an earnestly stalwart job in portraying the title

3-0 out of 5 stars 80's Made for TV look and feel
The basic premis of the plot, and you can get this from the back of the box, is that a fed-up LA family man moves his family to Oregon upon the prompting of his neighbor. The movie has that fuzzy look to it, like old documentary film, which make it seem right out of the 70's. I found it funny at times, although a bit contrived. I would watch it again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A confusing episode worth nothing but seawater
The idea of a man obsessed with obtaining the formula to extract4-0 out of 5 stars Man from U.N.C.L.E. meets Man from BatCave
I've heard MFU tried to attract Batman fans in later episodes, and nowhere is that more apparent than this 2-parter where each act culminates in a soc-it-out with THRUSH goons dressed in matching day-glow outfits. However, if you edit out the ZaPs and PoWs, this delivers some pretty good U.N.C.L.E. fare-- The all-star guest cast includes Kim Darby, Joan Crawford, Telly Savalas, and Terry Thomas.

2-0 out of 5 stars A kooky episode

5-0 out of 5 stars He is not deeeeeeeeead but sleepeth!
Comedy of Terrors is one of the funniest movies to come out of the 60s. My entire family just fell apart on the couch watching it. You've Vincent Price as the nasty undertaker. You have Peter Lorre as the picked on humble assistant, you've Boris Karloff as the sleepy and near deaf father in law. Oh and add Basil Rathbone as the Shakespeare loving landlord who won't stay dead and you'vean incredible piece of black comedy.
