4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Film, But Not For Everyone!
I thought "Sin City," was a great film. However, it is not for everyone. There is a lot of violence, gore, and scenes many will find sexist. If these are not the type of films you like, avoid watching the film. However, I thought the entire film was one hell of a weird viewing experience. I can understand some people not liking the film. [My wife for one]. But with all the different plots involved in the film, and the eerie and very strange atmosphere of 'Basin City' [where the surrealistic film takes place] I thought the film was highly original and worth the watch. A very good watch for that matter. There have been many reviews here, so I will skip the film' plot, however, there are a few things I would like to write.
5-0 out of 5 stars Blood for blood and by the gallons
Movie aside, this DVD set was great. There are two versions of this film to choose from on this DVD; the original, and a directors cut.I loved the new version with the added scenes (even though they aren't significant to the plot it's nice to be able to watch them). The additional bonus features are extensive, and Rodriguez's cooking class was also quite fun.
4-0 out of 5 stars One dimension, or maybe two
Rather than adapting the genre of cartoon to film, this movie adapts film to cartoon, as explained in the extra features part of the DVD. That's a helpful insight. What's best about the movie is the visual experience. The sparing use of color, the digital experimentation, the combination of human actors and cartoon backgrounds, the voice-overs, etc. All this is very interesting and seductive to watch -- and it distances the viewer from the appalling violence, making it much easier to take and much less genuinely threatening. I really don't think anyone will be inspired to take a gun to a mob from watching this film. It's ultimately a very sophisticated cartoon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite different from Volume 1 but also astonishing
The second part of Tarantino's martial arts epic is quite different from the first in many aspects. It begins with more revelations about what happened to the massacre at the small chapel and goes on with the revenge taken by the "bride". This time though the bad people have some nasty surprises for the heroine who faces the most desperating situation that you can imagine. I really enjoyed the flash-back to the heroine's training as a student of a cruel but wise Chinese master of martial arts and the fight with the one-eyed opponent had a very deserving and surprising finale. Bill has also some aces up in his sleeve but not the ultimate one which the "bride" applies in the end. A powerful and more philosophical film than Part One. The end is a triumph of love, as simple feelings of the kind that ordinary people experience, overcome and transform the highly trained killer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The secrets of Kill Bill 1&2
Ok,ill just inform yall on something but first for anyone whos seen the first and not the second well just so you dont have to wait any longer her name is Biatrix Kiddo,oh and just so you know i lied im not actually gonna give all the secrets i just told you what her name was so you diddnt freak your serlves out about it,anyways this one to me was some what better than the first(which was fantastic)when i saw the second kill bill movie at first i wasnt so sure if she was gonna have it in her to kill you-know-who and even though uma therman isnt so pretty shes an extraordinary actress i always loves how she got in to her character.well i dont wanna give to to much away well i think youll like this one a little bit better than the first
5-0 out of 5 stars Tragic Love Story
Despite all the violence, at its core, Kill Bill 2 is a love story. The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, is physically tortured during certain scenes in this movie. However, the emotional distress she experiences concerning her feelings for Bill is extraordinary. It is obvious she is deeply conflicted and confused. It is also apparent that The Bride and Bill share a deep bond despite attempts to kill each other. This is especially evident during her the last scene involving The Bride and Bill. This movie comes highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A true King of a Movie!
A perfect movie that never fails to make me smile. The scenery is gorgeous, the girls are gorgeous and Elvis is gorgeous so what more can you ask for? Best of all, you can watch it with the whole family without ever having to worry about hustling the kids out of the room due to inappropriate content. Too bad Hollywood stopped making films like this. Elvis can look down and be proud that he made quality family films that have stood the test of time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Great Pic!
This film rates 5 stars as a gorgeous movie musical, as a well-made film in and of itself, as a piece of sixties surf-and-sand nostalgia, as an Elvis vehicle, and as an Hawaiian "picture book" of sorts. It's young, it's fun, it's sunny and upbeat. You won't be disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bill Wyman is NOT retired!
You can't believe everything you read.Mr. Wyman was recently interviewed on a radio show where I live, and he is quite happily involved in a band he deliberately does not want to get big called The Rhythm Kings so he can stay close to his family's home and not drag them out on the road.He also likes to indulge in archeology when he's on his land, no doubt the same place he dug up some of the old, egomaniacal relics who are sorely misinformed about everything they write because they are so in love with themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only "Gimmie Shelter" Is Better Than This
This is absolutly, unequivocably the very best..."packaging" of the Rolling Stones in the early daze of video. The "plot?" Well, the now-retired Bassist, Bill Wyman dresses himself as a museum curator and sneaks into some generic museum's "locked-up exhibits" room.We wanders around some "exhibits," and finds an ancient computer which triggers the videos "She Was Hot" and "She's So Cold."The "She Was Hot" video alone justifes the entire "Rewind" video - watch, especially, for Keith Richards' experience with a torrid redhead. Bill views all-too-brief clips of Mick performing "Hey Negrita" and the infamous "Midnight Rambler-slap the belt on the floor" routine. He muses, "The old devil - 'ey, he must be around here somewhere!" He finds Mick trapped in a distinctly "Mick Jagger Pose," encased in a glass booth - and the scene where the discovery is made and Mick taps on the glass and begs, "Let Me Out" is absoluetly hilarious. Bill plays around on the computer some more, and after generating the "Neighbors," part of the "Emotional Rescue," and the "Waiting For A Friend" videos, he then generates a hilarious "interview" with the Stones, circa the "Some Girls" era.And once again, Keith steals the show, when he replies to an unctuous "interviewer," "I haven't had any problems with drugs, only policemen."Bill says, "HE must in in 'ere somewhere," and Mick sort of whispers, "I think he's in 'ere" -and when he and Bill pull the sheet off the "Keith" exhibit, the glass is broken (no Keith!), and Bill observes, "He must've gone out for another bottle!" - and Keef's "top-A chime on the guitar" riff triggers the beautiful "Angie" video.Further treats in "Video Rewind" include the Keef and Bobby Keys dropping a television set out of a hotel window, and then, we get our first glimpse of the infamous "airplane scene" from the still-unreleased "C********r Blues" video (are you listening, Robert Frank, and/or Allen Klien?)Whew! And that's just the tip of the iceberg (sort of)! To close, this is basically just a vehicle for "MTV-era" Stones' videos, but it's encased in a very, very funny, "laugh-out-loud" milieu starring Bill and Mick."Video Rewind" is no "Stones' story" kind of thing, as is the most excellent "25 X 5," it's just sheer escapism entertainment.Andit, along with Michael Nesmith's "Elephant Parts," are THE TWO videos for "party" (a'huh-huh-huh) purposes.Enjoy yourself!Tell 'em beatsuburban recommended these!

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best we'll get.
Outside of bootleggers' copies of the Stones video history, this is probably the best representation of their '70s/early '80s era that we'll get from a band not particularly known for being organized. While sadly lacking the great 'Start Me Up'-'Stones craggily arise from the ashes for another decade'- video, 'She's So Cold' is goofy fun, 'Too Much Blood' is Mick in vintage mid-life crisis, and 'Waiting On A Friend,' even abbreviated, will cut deep into anyone who's ever spent a summer in that most transient of cities, NY.Plus, the between video excerpts of Keith quotes and pieces of bearded Jagger and 'Hey, Negrita' perform the perfect magician's trick of giving us a faint glimpse of the enormity of the band's history.Buy it used and have some fun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good lessons for the young viewer
This 1961 liberal remake of the Journey to the West is a good film for our children.Although Monkey starts off as a sympathic character, children will quickly condemn him for his selfishness and arrogance.Children will learn -- as they learned in Spider-Man -- that with great power comes great responsibility. At the end, we applaud Monkey as he truly learns the concepts of love, humility and virtue. Our youths need more films like Alakazam.Highly recommended.

ALAKAZAM THE GREAT (1961) was the English-dubbed version of the Japanese animated feature, SAIYUKI (1960), an adaptation of "Journey to the West," the Chinese literary work devoted to the famous legend of the Monkey King. It was distributed in the U.S. by American International Pictures and featured a whole new music score, four new songs and a host of celebrity voices, including Jonathan Winters, Arnold Stang, Sterling Holloway and, as the singing voice of the Monkey King, Frankie Avalon. 5-0 out of 5 stars "This Will Be" a great video to own!
Natalie Cole's story, which was based on her best-selling autobiography, comes to vivid life on screen. Like Ms. Cole's book, this movie pulls no punches about the seemingly fairytale life she had as a child to her bouts with drugs, her rise to fame as a singing star, her family life, only for it to all come crashing down due to her addiction--and her amazing comeback due to the one thing she was running away from all her life: acknowledging the legacy of her father, the legendary pop/jazz artist, Nat "King" Cole, who had died a tragic death from lung cancer at the age of 45. At the time of his death, Natalie had just turned 15, and has said that his death was something she never got over, but never had the chance to grieve, whicheventually led her to drugs. That, and the need to be daring and experimental. But she explains that it wasn't until the mid-80s when she was in rehab for the second time that she realized this. Bottom line was, she missed her father tremendously.5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT LOOK AT NATALIE COLE'S LIFE

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING 1950's HORROR THRILLER!
I must admit, I never saw this film until 15 years ago. From the middle 1960's until the early 1990's, I thought I had seen every horror-thriller in the genre, both foreign and domestic. It was a real treat to view this film. I believe this is the greatest horror-thriller to come out of the 1950's. The film stars Dr. Holden (Dana Andrews) a psychologist whose main interest is in debunking the occult and any other paranormal activity: Especially those who claim to have paranormal powers. He is scientific in his research, and believes those who do practice the occult or claim to have psychic abilities are charltons, or mentally ill. He soon finds out how wrong he has been.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed
Before I discuss the film itself, an important point needs to be made: On this excellent DVD you are given the choice to watch either the original British cut of this film, called Night of the Demon, or the much-shorter American cut, called Curse of the Demon. Many people pick the American cut simply because it's shorter, because that's the title they're familiar with, because that's the default on the DVD...whatever. Some critics have argued that there really isn't much difference between the two versions. I could not possibly disagree more. In fact, in Curse of the Demon, an entire chapter from the chapter selection menu is missing, and this chapter contains some of the most important scenes in the entire film! Thus, if one watches Curse of the Demon rather than Night of the Demon, one misses: 1) the absolute creepiest scene in the whole film, when Dr. Holden thinks he feels and/or hears the demon coming for him in the Noir-looking halls of the hotel, 2) an important part of the plot, when Dr. Holden discovers that the pages after the 28th have been ripped out of his calendar, and 3) the best dialogue exchange in the whole darn movie! In fact, one could argue that this latter exchange is the most important bit of dialogue too, in terms of establishing Dana Andrew's character:

Spencer Tracy won an Oscar for his portrayal of Father Flanagan, who opens Boys Town and dedicates himself to helping juvenile delinquents go straight. Mickey Rooney plays one of the tougher kids, figuring out early on that Flanagan is nobody's fool. Warmhearted and inspiring, the film's inevitable sentimentality is nicely cut by Tracy's performance and a smart script by Eleanore Griffin and Dore Schary (who also won Oscars). I WAS IN A SIMILAR SITUATION AS THIS SHOW [A CATHOLIC ENVIREMENT] AND HAVE SEEN BOTH THIS SHOW AND 'MEN OF BOYS TOWN'. THIS IS THE REASON I GOT THESE SHOW [BOTH ON ONE DVD].IT IS A GOOD DEAL FOR THE MONEY.ONE OF THE FUNNIEST PARTS WAS WHEN MO MADE WHITEY LOOK LIKE AL JOLSON AND HOW EVERYONE LAUGHED AT HIM DURING THE ROW CALL.GENE REYNOLDS PLAYED TONY PONESSA [ALSO STARRED IN 'THEY SHALL HAVE MUSIC'] WAS PERFECT FOR THE PART.UNLIKE TED MARTLEY [MEN OF BOYS TOWN] WHO CRIED FOR ATTENTION TONY PREFERRED TO DO THING FOR HIMSELF AND NOT DEPEND ON OTHERS FOR ANYTHING.IN SOME WAYS HE AND TED MARTLEY WERE ALIKE. THESE SHOWS SURE TAKES ME BACK TO THOSE DAYS WHEN I WAS RAISED IN A CATHOLIC ORPHANAGE WHERE I SAW BOTH OF THESE SHOWS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Boys Town
I have seen this movie in the past on TV and am familiar with the story line. I have also been to Visit Boys Town Since I have family in Omaha Nebraska. I would say if anyone is considering buying this movie, Do. Spencer Tracy makes a good Father flanigan (the Priest who starts up Boys Town) in this movie and Micky Rooney who plays a hoddlem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two great actors in a great movie
"Boys Town" stars two of the greatest actors of the golden era of Hollywood, Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy, and their parts in this movie are among their best roles."Boys Town" doesn't have quite as close a connection to Christmas as the other two titles in the Classic Holiday Collection (there's one scene set on the holiday), but this true story of a priest who builds a boarding school for troubled youth is one that will warm your heart.Tracy plays Father Flanagan, a kind, socially conscious priest who can be tough when he needs to be, and Mickey Rooney displays his wide-ranging acting talent (from tough talk to tears) as one of the neglected boys whom Flanagan sets on the right path.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two Good Episodes
The Deadly Toys Affair shouldn't be missed if for no other reason than to see AngelaLansbury's over the top performance as Elsie, and Illya turned hairdresser for Diane McBain's character. It's clear that Elsie is patterned on Auntie Mame, which Lansbury later played on Broadway, with Jay North as her nephew who Thrush wants to send to their 'special school'. Napoleon gets to play a joke and novelty toy salesman, and Illya is the hairdresser that most women would love to have. When he kisses Diane McBain to shut her up while they're being chased by the Thrush sentries, it makes the whole episode worthwhile. 5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Second Season Episodes!
"The Deadly Toys Affair" and "The Minus X Affair" is my favorite second season episodes besides "The Foxes and Hounds Affair", "The Discotheque Affair", and "The Dippy Blonde Affair".4-0 out of 5 stars The Men from U.N.C.L.E. deal with some "minor" problems
The Men from U.N.C.L.E. have to deal with the small fry in the two episodes on Volume 3. "The Deadly Toys Affair" (Episode #37, November 12, 1965), gets off to a fun start as a defecting Thrush scientist warns Mr. Waverly of a project by the bad guys to use poison gas. However, the scientist runs off to Switzerland to rescue his son (Jay North!) from a boarding school run for Thrush by Angela Lansbury.Solo and Kuryakin show up to try and save both the boy and his father from Thrush.Written by Robert Hill, "The Deadly Toys Affair" was directed by John Brahms."The Minus-X Affair" (Episode #58, April 8, 1966), has guest star Eve Arden as Thrush scientist Lillian Stemmler, who has the "Plus-X" serum which heightens the senses and increases theintelligence.Stemmler also has created "Minus-X," which makes people revert to the level of children.Wackiness ensues as you might imagine. An excellent story from writer Peter Allan Fields with a less than happy ending, this episode was directed by Barry Shear.A couple of above average episodes from the Sixties spy spoof series. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Tarantino..but too much for newcomers?
The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad are made up of five most deadly killers, led by Bill. There is O'Ren-Ishii as Cottonmouth, Elle Driver as California Mountain Snake, Vernita Green as Copperhead, Budd as Sidewinder. The main character is called 'The Bride', who is an Ex Deadly Viper, but quit because of pregnancy. On her wedding day on El Paso Texas, Bill and the gang showed up and killed all at the chapel.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just A'iight!
I borrowed this from a friend, my buddy Bobby Asslong, who is normally very keen in his reviews and referrals. But he missed the mark with this one.He called it a true classic, with the markings of an award winner. I call it, a bloody awful, overrated Shanghai extravaganza. Not bad, but certainly not as good as it was hyped.

What critics see as paying homage to the 70's film styles,I think is very shrewd copy catting.Be that as it may, this movie was a hoot to watch and David Carridine looks terrific for his age, he must be pushing 70.I never thought Uma was anything close to pretty, but she does have a certain vunerable toughness about her, so she was good in this role.Who really blew me away was Daryl Hannah, I thought the fake nurse looked familiar but I couldn't place her until I read the credits and saw her name, she was excellent and unexpected. She never had a part like this one, she should do more roles like this because she certainly shined in this movie.I thought she deserved more attention.Enjoy! ... Editorial Review

Wilson Rawls's novel about an Oklahoma boy's devotion to two hunting dogs during the Great Depression was the basis for this appealing 1974 film made by a former Disney director, Norman Tokar. Stewart Peterson is very effective as a 12-year-old, hurtling down the path toward manhood with hounds at his side. (Though how he raised $50 to get the pooches in that economic climate is still a mystery....) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Movie
"Where the Red Fern Grows" is as good as I remember frommy youth.Great for the whole family, it brings out a range of emotions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Movie about friendship
I bought this for my granddaughter who had read the book with her class at school. She wanted the movie to share with the class. She likes to read books and then see the movie if available. It seems to help in seeing the characters and the story line. All of the family has viewed this movie and we all love to watch it every chance we get. I highly recommend this movie for all families.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Entertainment
A great story but not worth $75 - 85 dollars! This is an amazing hipe for putting dollars before the storyline. The movie is a wonderful love story which happens to anybody in this world during the war years.Still overpriced in the market - beware of this.If found @ a garage sale or Used VHS shops, buy it and you will have a lovely hour or so of entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars I very highly recommend this delightful film!

5-0 out of 5 stars "That's alright. Pool rooms are so informal."
Nick and Nora are off to Nick's parents in Sycamore Springs in this fun outing for our favorite mystery duo. Nick has taken to apple cider in anticipation of his birthday visit hoping for a pat on the back from his disapproving dad, who wanted Nick to follow in his footsteps and become a doctor.
4-0 out of 5 stars NICK & NORA VISIT THE PARENTS
In the 5th installment of the Thin Man series, Nick and Nora decide to visit Nick's parents in the small town of Sycamore Springs.During the train ride there, they smuggle Asta aboard in Nora's fur coat but leave little Nicky Jr. at home!
4-0 out of 5 stars This movie was so good I popped my vest buttons!
This is the fourth sequel to the 1934 smash hit THE THIN MAN. Just when I would have thought the series was dead the producers and writers were able to add life to the franchise. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Plot twists I didn't see coming
Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross...Doesn't get much better than that.Monica Potter ...well, look up cute in the dictionary..Her picture is there.Anyway, this had some serious plot twists that somehow all seemed to make sense as they got tied together.Morgan Freeman continues to demonstrate that he is one of the best actors in film today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good movie, but...
I have read all of the Alex Cross novels and as great an actor as Morgan Freeman is, he is terribly mis-cast as Alex Cross.Cross is described as a 40 year old Muhammad Ali look alike. Not even close.Of course, there is the part in the movie that they kill off a character that appears in a later novel.Maybe it was all a dream as it was for a whole season of "Dallas".
3-0 out of 5 stars Confused
I'm confused because I have no idea why this movie is called "Along Came a Spider". Other then having few similar plot twists the movie and the book are two completely different things. I'm not going to go into a huge thing on all the differnces between the book and the movie (that would take forever) but its very dissapointing thing for two reasons: fans of the book are most likely not going to like it. You watch the movie expecting to see one thing and end up getting something you didn't really want to see. The book is soooo good so I don't know why so much was changed and left out. Secondly, the movie really is pretty good, but it won't get the recognition it deserves because of it's title. If you gave the characters new names and slapped on a new title it probably would of been a much more liked movie. ... Read more

The plot is a hokey whitewash of the careers of Richard Rodgers andLorenz Hart, with characters talking in stilted phrases
