5-0 out of 5 stars Still My Favorite
The film initiates with two small-time thieves, Honey Bunny and Pumpkin, who spontaneously decide to hold up a restaurant. The film then shifts to the story of Jules and Vincent, who are hitmen for the well-known and feared Marsellus Wallace, who is caught up in a deal gone wrong with struggling boxer Butch Coolidge.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, everything about it.
Yes a bit strange but I loved this movie! My boyfriend and my mom recommended Pulp Fiction to me and now I recommend it to you!I loved how it all fit together but was in like 5 different chapters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film And Terrific Writing!
"Pulp Fiction is not an overrated film, in fact it is an outstanding film. There are quite a few reviews here, therefore, I will be short. Having seen 'Resevoir Dogs' and liking it very much, I was really impressed with Tarantino's follow-up of "Pulp Fiction."One of the things I really liked about this film, to name just one, was the different offbeat characters that Tarantino put into the film. From John Travolta, [as Vinny the nutcase with a penchant for killing] to Samuel L. Jackson, as Travolta's stone cold killer partner; these two characters alone made the film terrific.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Look, it's okay to admire my wife, but would you mind taking your elbow out of my butter?"
Here's the plot: Before they were partners, Bert Kalmar (Fred Astaire) was one half of the popular dance act Kalmar & Brown, and Harry Ruby (Red Skelton) was a struggling piano player/songplugger. The first time Kalmar and Ruby met, it doesn't turn out well. Kalmar, you see, is obsessed with magic and moonlights as a stage magician. When Ruby is assigned as his assistant, he botches Kalmar's magic act disastrously and earns Kalmar's wrath. However, when Kalmar suffers a back stage knee accident and has to break up his dance team, he bumps into Ruby again. This time, they manage to collaborate on a song before things go south, and that, in essence, was the birth of their successful tin pan alley songwriting partnership.
5-0 out of 5 stars Movie facinated composer Randy Newman as a kid...
In the catalog for "Guilty: 30 Years of Randy Newman", Lenny Waronker wrote, "When we were kids, we saw a movie called Three Little Words... We were facinated by the idea of writing songs--turning musical inspiration into a precise verse/chorus/bridge form."

4-0 out of 5 stars A congenial musical with Fred Astaire as Bert Kalmar and Red Skelton as Harry Ruby
Three Little Words is like a mother's cooking. It may not be haute cuisine, but it's tasty and it's nice sitting around the table with friends and family. The movie, in my opinion, has no great highs and no great lows; it's a genial, comfortable musical with a strong performance by Fred Astaire as Bert Kalmar and a low-key one from Red Skelton as Harry Ruby.

2-0 out of 5 stars This just doesn't rate for me...
This Green Hornet serial is below average at best. The film wasn't in good condition when tranferred to tape; so, the poor quality detracted from my viewing. Whenever Hornet and Kato was in the scene, I found the "hornet buzzing" quite annoying after a while. As a baby boomer, I remember the Green Hornet of the late 60's (ala Van Williams and Bruce Lee, which I found myself on more than one occaision comparing this to.I know this isn't fair; but as a result, this one just didn't rate for me.I stop watching it after the 4th episode.

3-0 out of 5 stars good but grainy serial
This Green Hornet serial is good and definitely not boring. The chapters to a ceratin extent are complete stories in themselves. Unfortunately, the film was no longer in good condition when tranferred to tape. This is whatdetracts from the full enjoyment of the serial. Many parts appear blurredand grainy. If the details were preserved, this product would rate 5 stars. The next Green Hornet serial was more enjoyable to watch as the originalfilm appears to have been better preserved. But this is collector's stuffand secure one if you can. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Region 2 DVD is now available, but only with Scandinavian subs!! :-(
Such a shame, there is now a restored version available but they didn't bother to make it available to the rest of the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars An epic film: a battle against the dignity no matter what!
This timeless film shows how far the power of will of some human beings can reach under determined conditions and not precisely the most favorable ones .
4-0 out of 5 stars Utvandrarna
I bought this video for a research paper I was doing on Vilhelm Moberg, author of the four Emigrants novels. At any rate, I consider it a testament to the achievement of the Swedish actors that their performances managed to carry feeling, tension, and a spark of humanity although their voices had been taken away.I can't stand dubbed voices, so this is saying a great deal.At any rate, this is a fine movie, telling a fine story (read the books!), the only reason a star is missing is for the dubbing. ... The classic science fiction novel by Ray Bradbury was a curious choice for one of the leading directors of the French New Wave, François Truffaut. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fairly faithful adaptation of the Bradbury novel.....
Perhaps one of Truffaut's most ambitious films. One knows we are in for something special when the opening titles of the movie are spoken rather than written and hints to the innovative approach Truffaut has taken to depicting perhaps Bradbury's most popular novel.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Hot
I was disappointed when I went back and checked out this 1966 movie version of Ray Bradbury's famous tale about book-burning.The characters here start off in a world where books and reading are banned. It's an authoritarian world in which the government controls the media. So I had thought this movie made a commentary that would be relevant to the dangerous drift of today's governments. My memory apparently didn't serve me well though. Viewing this Fahrenheit again, I actually found it to be a weak, illogical rendering. I don't think Bradbury could have been too happy with this translation of his story onto the screen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Oldie but goody
A movie version of Ray Bradbury novel of a restristed society that banned books "for our own good". People are given drugs to make them feel good all the time (like Prozac and other drugs now).

4-0 out of 5 stars best cult series
i think the bunker is a excellent episode which has a lot going for it.It is a Playdon adventure, personally my favorite writer Bain and Landau are excellent, the only thing that got me was the masks.having two on at the same time is a bit implausible.Otherwise a great episode a must-see for all mission fans!

4-0 out of 5 stars FINE EPISODE FROM SERIES THAT BROKE THE MOLD
Mission: Impossible is the TV series that broke the mold and proved that an exciting show that doesn't insult the intelligence of the audience can still be very popular. During the 1960's when MI first appeared, most action-adventure series contained a large helping of car chases, fist fights and shoot-outs. Although, in the first season's episodes, we still see some elements of these things, by the second season they had pretty much disappeared and the emphasis became on out-thinking the enemy. It even got to the point that if someone had to be "liquidated", the IMF maneuvered the bad guys into doing it themselves (another major motivation for reducing the amount of violence in the show was the climate of disorder in the United States during this period including the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr, widespread opposition to the War in Vietnam plus the rioting in the major urban areas of the US caused by the racial unrest of the time). Another factor in the success of the series is the music which has become legendary that was written or inspired by Lalo Shifrin. Many scenes consisted of Barney connecting up wires or tinkering with some mechanical device and yet, the musical background kept up the tension and prevented the scene from becoming boring. The two-part episode on this tape was written by Paul Playdon who wrote some of the best stories for the series. There are plenty of clever gadgets and escape-proof prisons plus the presence of a hired assassin from a third country whom the IMF is not in control of to keep any MI fan occupied for two hours. The only reason I gave the story only 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the use of masks (someone even wears two masks at one time!) which I find rather implausible, but it is great entertainment in any event. I hope that more episodes will become available for purchase in the future!

5-0 out of 5 stars Please release on DVD
This is a great movie that shows a great performance by Diane Lane, and it is a beautiful story.

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE TOUCHED ME!
Well, after paying only four dollars for this movie, and having watched it, I know what a bargain I got! With an amazing picturesque (Canada?) setting, a deeply moving story and stellar acting, you cannot go wrong wth this one. I love Diane Lane now, and she is terrific in this, portraying the main character of Karen, Cerebal Palsy sufferer. You don't need to be an Elvis fan to like this movie either, it was his caring and compassion towards her that moved me more than anything, and I just felt so angry to think that this wonderful, brave young lady had been so totally abandoned by her family (or so it is alluded to, at any rate). The movie has a wonderful, langorous feel about it, the way that movies used to be made - nice slow build-up, with good dialogue and sumptious, lingering photography (unlike the horrible fast camera work, special effects packed, oh so try hard movies of today). I love simple stories (wish Hollywood would go back to basics), and from start to finish this movie is absorbing and deeply satisfying, if sad. My four year old son just loved it too.
5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ANY SERIOUS ELVIS FAN
It details the life of a special little girl with cerebal palsy and how her love of Elvis made her remaining years joyful. Diane Lane is outstanding. John Amos and Michael Learned give much in supporting roles. While some may find this a weak production, any true Elvis fan will view it as quite an emotional ride and confirmation of the largeness and humbleness of The King of Rock n' Roll. As a "devout" Elvis fan he greatly touched my life. This movie, which I treasure, details just how special his life was and how much it meant to so many in so many different ways. Again, it's a must for ANY true Elvis fan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonderful Wonder Years
Simply put the Wonder Years is a magical experience and series 1 (on VHS) is an ideal place to start your collection. Fred Savage is simply breathtaking as Kevin. Two thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonder Years, but not the ORIGINAL PILOT!
Awh, what a treat. Without a doubt, this simply was the only television show that ever captured the beauty of living in America. The pilot episode takes us back, not only to 1968, but to every adolescence childhood memory of growing up.
5-0 out of 5 stars You'll look back with Wonder too!
You can't help but interject yourself Kevin's life.He is so relatable. Also with the narration it makes us think of our own glory days of youth and the important people in our lives. The first kiss.First experience with someone dying. The intrigue of sex ed.Our best friend and knowing everything about that person.Nagging brother or sister.Fighting parents who loved each other and us.The popular music that defined the era we grew up in.I'm sure there are special songs that conjure up powerful images from your past just as the special songs from the Wonder Years does the same for each episode.Read more

Wilson Rawls's novel about an Oklahoma boy's devotion to two hunting dogs during the Great Depression was the basis for this appealing 1974 film made by a former Disney director, Norman Tokar. Stewart Peterson is very effective as a 12-year-old, hurtling down the path toward manhood with hounds at his side. 1-0 out of 5 stars The Jewel of the Nile Special Edition is NOT anamorphic
I looked at the package for The Jewel of the Nile Special Edition today and saw that the movie was widescreen but was not anamorphic (not enhanced for widescreen televisions). If the information on the package is accurate, then Fox did not make the release very special. This is a good movie, but I would suggest waiting until an anamorphic version is released.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd Marry Joan
It's hard to believe this DVD is (at least temorarily) unavailable retail. This is one of the few instances when the sequel is better than the original (Romancing the Stone). It's one of the few films with a really good first person portrayl of a writer (Kathleen Turner as Joan). Whatever you think of Michael Douglas, this appearance must rate near the top of hisleast stereotyped performances. Danny DeVito is great as a would-be heavy. This is almost a latter-day James Bond film except the heroine is an everyday Everywoman.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
This movie was pretty good. I liked the witch. She is my favorite character because she is a pretty bad villain and I like villains. The parts of the movie that I liked best were the parts with the Wizard and the Munchkins.Once Dorothy and the scarecrow, lion and tin man reach Oz, it gets very interesting. You finally get to see the place they've been following the yellow brick road for. It's cool.I am six.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Version of the Wizard of Oz yet
Known to all, this is the story of Dorothy Gale and herjourney to the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. The most popular film of all time , seen by over a billion people. It's timelessness is proof enough of its value . Certainly flawed when scrutinized and written about for 56 years, but still most beloved. In 1998 rereleased on the big screen: magic. And admittedly the most important film of my life: As a child I was obsessed with the film and only a little less now.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Never Gets Old
"The Wizard Of Oz" is a film truly worthy of the title timeless. No matter how many times, you can't help but be amazed by the sense of wonder and inspiration this film creates. Even after 67 years, it's still one of the most impressive and uplifiting moments in cinema.

4-0 out of 5 stars JAG Season 1 coming to DVD this June!
Get excited JAG fans, Season 1 has been confirmed by Paramount Home Entertainment as due for release on June 20th, 2006. Harmon Rabb is about to make the trap on DVD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why not?
I cannot understand why the J.A.G. seasons are not released on DVD. I've been watching it for years, here in Germany, and would very much like to watch the original. I think especially the first 6-7 seasons are simply gorgeus, best American entertainment, heroic and touching, good characters, good acting, well built stories. So why not on DVD? Many of my friends would surely buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars JAG: Lets have it all
I have been a fan since the pilot episode.I enjoy the well thought out plots and find Harm and co-stars to be delightful to watch.I was very disappointed when Meg was replaced with Mac, but it hasn't stopped me from watching every episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy about turning Middle Age
I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out. I was 39 at the time, so I could see myself in the picture (a little). The next night I took three women from my office to see the picture. Two of them had just gone through a divorce, and the third -- one of my best friends and working associates -- had been divorced at age 35 by a man who "went crazy". It was fun seeing the picture with those three women and seeing their reactions. After the movie we went to dinner at a steak house together and talked about the movie and had a wonderful evening together. As a man I think I did those three women more good by taking them to see "Middle Age Crazy" than anything else would possible do for them at that time in their life.
5-0 out of 5 stars High School Graduations Will Never Again Seem The Same.
MIDDLE AGE CRAZY is one unforgettable movie and Bruce Dern is every ordinary guy just entering his own mid-life crisis. Of course not every man has a nutty wife like the loveable dimwit played by Ann-Margaret.5-0 out of 5 stars Lessons about men
While the style and times of "Middle Age Crazy" have passed, the essence of the message and theme are constant. This is a must see for every man entering his 40's, and any female who wants to understand him better. Beside the familiar surface story line, there is a deeper underlying message about aging, changing, and letting go of previous self images. Bruce Dern is excellent as a man entering into middle age with all the stress of being the focus of parent, children, and family problems, while attempting to retain his own identity. In a time when our society is dealing with aging on a larger scale than ever before, this film is more relevant than ever. The musical score adds greatly to this effect, and the whole experience is universally significant. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Giuseppe Tornatore's beautiful 1988 film about a little boy's love affair with the movies deservedly won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film and a Special Jury Prize at Cannes. Philippe Noiret plays a grizzled old projectionist who takes pride in his presentation of screen dreams for a town still recovering from World War II. When a child (Jacques Perrin) demonstrates fascination not only for movies but also for the process of showing them to an audience, a lifelong friendship is struck. This isn't just one of those films for people who are already in love with the cinema. But if you are one of those folks, the emotional resonance between the action in Tornatore's world and the images on Noiret's screen will seem all the greater--and the finale all the more powerful. 5-0 out of 5 stars Both cuts
The new special edition of Cinema Paradiso, coming this november, features both cuts of the film. The theatrical one and the director's cut. So buy it immediately!

5-0 out of 5 stars en la paradiso of the genre
I first saw Cinema Paradiso on a small screen (24?") T.V. in the shortened original VHS for theatre distribution version. O.K. A number of years later, I was fortunate enough to see the Director's Cut on the big screen. Before or since, I never have shed tears like that in the theatre. Not only for the sadness... but for the sublimity.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this version! You must get the director's cut!
I'm giving one star not for the film but for this version only. The director's cut has more than 50 mins additional footage which is vital to the story and was cut to make the film more acceptable to cinema audiences. With these additional scenes, this is an excellent 5-star movie but otherwise, viewers will be unsatisfied. The main bone of contention is that the Elena relationship is not properly resolved in the shorter version so you'll be left wondering how it all turned out. Take my advice, pay a little more and get the full-length version. You won't regret it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This Spanish fluff from 1992 won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but its significance goes about as far as you can throw a flower petal. The story finds an elderly artist (Fernando Fernán Gómez) giving shelter to a deserter (Jorge Sanz) from the royalist army in provincial Spain, 1931. While on the premises, the young man naturally notes the beauty of all four of his host's daughters. Each takes her turn at seducing him, but this isn't late-night cable TV so much as it is a series of brief character sketches filled out by the way each woman takes charge. It's a clever idea made more clever by the fact that these sundry beauties are acting on the libertine impulses to which their free-thinking father subscribes in principle but has sheepishly abandoned for love. But the film, directed by Fernando Trueba, is rendered so lightly it could almost be mistaken for calendar art. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars if bill forsyth had been spanish ...
jorge sanz (a looker) stars as a soldier deserting from the spanish army during the 1930s civil wars, taken into a family, who proceeds to fall in love with and seduce all four daughters, while forging a father/son relationship with the patriarch. touching and kinky and off beat, a worthy winner of the oscar as best foreign language film in 1992.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious And Sexy Romantic Comedy With Superb Flourishes Of Social Drama
A joyous and sexy romantic comedy that manages to insert heavy doses of drama (sometimes quite melancholy) and social commentary into itself without losing its overall playful, upbeat vibe, "Belle Epoque" is a treasure and a fantastic introduction to the world of Spanish-language comedy.Set in the Spanish Civil War, a concsientious objector deserts the army and ups being offered refuge at the farm of a charming old intellectual, whose four daughters each end up taking a quick liking to the young - and perpetually flummoxed - desserter.Filled with a large, great cast of diverse characters - including the farm father's eclectic group of friends and his unusual, absent-on-tour musician wife, and spearheaded by Penelope Cruz's smashing performance as Luz - "Belle Epoque" taps into a rich range of material and does it all extremely well.An alltime winner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my idea of a romantic comedy
Let me start by saying I only watched this film because it features Penelope Cruz in one of her earliest roles.I'm not a fan of non-horror European cinema, and maybe that's why my reaction to the film is significantly less enthusiastic than that of other reviewers.I found Belle Epoque somewhat disturbing, actually.Basically, this is the story of an army deserter who sleeps his way through an entire family of sisters - talk about your hand-me-downs - yet it turns out that his relationships aren't the weirdest ones on display.I will say this: when you put a man in a dress and play out a really weird cross-dressing romantic encounter with him, you're going to lose this viewer to a significant degree. This whole film is just really, really weird - almost deviant, even.
