5-0 out of 5 stars More than 100 minutes of pure fun !
I must say I decided to review this film because it had so much negative reviews. I LOVE this film. It's pure fun and completely crazy and it's fine like that. If you want to watch an art film, don't watch an Elvis Presley film.

Before people lose their minds about the title of my review, just think about this: I genuinely wonder how the Native American community viewed this film when it was released.Sure, the stereotypes we see in STAY AWAY, JOE are now considered highly offensive--that Native Americans are irresponsible and alcoholic and such--but were they thrilled to be shown in a movie where they weren't getting shot off a horse by John Wayne?

4-0 out of 5 stars Open's Your Eyes
This movie is a real eye opener. Set to a high octane techno soundtrack, Lola (Franka Potente) must help her boyfriend Manni get 100,000 or his life will be in grave danger. There are three scenarios of what can/could happen, and it's an eye opener because it shows how easily your life can change in a matter of minutes. I definitely recommend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars No, there's no cause and effect here
For me, this movie got off on the wrong foot when it posed a question and left us hanging for the answer. It basically asked us what the one question in life is, and what that answer is, then suggested that both the question and answer were obvious, and left it there without providing its answers.I could have done without that bit of annoying stupidity.
5-0 out of 5 stars High octane adrenaline rush for the eyes...
`Run Lola Run' is like `Groundhog Day' on speed, with maybe a hit of `Kill Bill, Vol. 1' in there for good measure. It follows Lola (Potente) as she races to get 100,000 deutschemarks for her boyfriend Manni (Bleibtreu) who is in debt to a seedy gangster with no patience or mercy. She has twenty minutes to do so and what makes this film unique is that it is very time conscious.Tom Tykwer accurately takes twenty minutes (or VERY close to) with each of Lola's attempts to save her boyfriend.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's the most won-der-ful time... in your life!
Like many here my review reflects the dvd as a purchase and not only the "movie". I was shocked to see my widescreen smile go to a fullscreen frown in minutes. I then read the back of the box and realized the error of MGM's ways. Had I took the time to read this in the store I doubt I would have bought it, though in hindsight who knows when another issue will be made, I'll likely ditch this and get that when it does. The best part about this release (and most important) is the sound anyway, and WOW they squeeze a lot of mileage out of Stereo Surround! I then rechecked the box to see if this was 5.1 and it wasn't but man oh man you'd never guess it twasn't! The picture is grainy on certain shots, others it is clear and bright, and it bothers me there ain't a whisker of an extra, but I guess that's for the "special edition". 2/5
5-0 out of 5 stars A Glorious Experience!
Tom Sawyer is a rascally young boy doing his best to grow-up carefree and mischievous on the banks of the Mississippi River in Hannibal, Missouri. He lives with his frustrated Aunt Polly and her children, goody-goody Sid, who has it in for Tom, and lovely Mary, who is Tom's only supporter when he gets himself into trouble. Tom's best friend is Huckleberry Finn, an outsider who lives off the land and water and has no one to look after him. The two boys love to fish, go swimming, play pirates on the river, and hang out with their pal, Muff Potter, the friendly town drunk. The days pass pretty much regularly like that for Tom, Huck, and their friends. That is, until two people shake up their world. One is a sweet little girl named Becky Thatcher, the daughter of the new judge in town. When Tom meets Becky, it's love at first sight. Unfortunately, the other disruption in the lives of Tom and Huck is not quite as benign. The menacing figure known as Injun Joe makes more than a little trouble for the boys when they witness him murdering the town doctor one night in the graveyard and putting the blame on poor Muff Potter! It suddenly becomes Tom's difficult decision of whether or not to break his pact of secrecy with Huck and save their innocent, drunken friend from the gallows!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good family film
I remember watching this when I was a young boy. The next day I told my mother that I wanted to paint a fence, so she did the best she could: she got some old boards and some white paint and I took it from there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adventure
Story-telling at its best. Takes you back to life near the Mississippi river, before the Civil War, for a story of boyhood adventure. Plenty of humor. This 1938 color version, is the best version; worth seeing even if you have seen others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, terrible DVD format
I had been looking for this movie for, literally, decades when I found it on Amazon.com. This is one of the greatest, most memorable, movies of my childhood. Although the dialog and production are very 30's and very dated now, Mark Twain's timeless writing and the believability of the prime actors make this movie one of the unforgettables. Unfortunately, this great American classic is produced overseas and delivered in Region 2 format on DVD. That means Americans can't view it, unless, of course, they have a universal player. But, only the geeks own those or know how to jimmy theirs. I excitedly bought this DVD from Caiman and found out too late. The picture of the product clearly shows a "triangle U" in the lower right corner, which means it's Universal format. The DVD itself is labeled "globe 0" which means it should play on any player worldwide. But, it would play on only 1 of my 3 players. Caiman insisted it was Region 2 and that it was my problem. After much arguing with them I had to escalate to a manager to get my money back by pointing out the "triangle U" in the picture. I sent a report to Amazon.com but they were no help. An American company needs to get on the ball with this one and produce it for Region 1, or true Universal format. It's Mark Twain, for crying out loud!!

5-0 out of 5 stars DVD Format Disappointment
This classic version of Tom Sawyer is by far the best that has been made. However, I was very disappointed when we received the DVD that it was in PAL format.Luckily we were able to play it on our computer. Why is an American story, filmed by an American company, sold in a format for Europeans? Why couldn't this be in the regular DVD format that all the other movies are? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Martin - Lewis in Motion
Gorgeously original slapdash comedy, suave Dean Martin and geeky Jerry Lewis team up with badass ride and great dane to cruise to Hollywood.Hilarious nostalgic fun,one of Frank Tashlin's best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Martin and Lewis part with their greatest film.
'Hollywood Or Bust', along with 'Artists And Models', is the finest Martin and Lewis vehicle - both were directed by genius Frank Tashlin, a former cartoonist who brought a comic-strip sensibility to his movies.'Bust' is best seen as a glorious live-action cartoon, all bright painted colours (especially red and green) and exagerrated set-pieces in which extreme violence and crisis have no physical or mental effect, the characters picking themselves up, dusting off and continuing. The patterning of red, especially, has a splendid pay off when a red-jacketed Jerry finds himself in a corral with a ferocious bull.3-0 out of 5 stars Dean and Jerry Go Bust
"Hollywood or Bust" (1956) marked the cinematic swansong of Martin and Lewis, with the comedy team on its last legs. Despite Frank Tashlin's inventive direction, the film is terribly uneven. Jerry has some memorable routines, but it's evident that Dino has had enough -- the chemistry is gone. Still, it remains one of the duo's better efforts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Like the Big Red Dog, No?
I saw this film when it was first released and watched it every time it was rebroadcast on the Disney television show. Even at the age of seven I was engrossed in the narrative of the orphan boy who wins the heart of an Irish setter. I found the actors comfortable with their roles and very watchable. I suppose in this era where everything has to flash and spin that this slower-paced movie may be considered "boring," but I still love it--I will take genuine emotion over flash and spin any day. My only complaint is that only this Anchor Bay version has the film in its proper perspective; the Disney version is pan and scan. When is the present Disney organization going to take some notice of REAL Walt Disney films again?

4-0 out of 5 stars BIG RED
I recently saw this film when I found it in 1 of my friend's house where they had several movies packed up & I liked the movie.I was glad to see an Irish Setter as the main animal in the film because we are so used to seeing Golden Retrievers,Yellow Labrador Retrievers, mixed breeds & Beagles.I loved how it was set in the province of Canada.I also think the scenery is beautiful.I loved the film buy it because it's not a dissapointing film!
4-0 out of 5 stars FAMILY FUN
BIG RED is a film your family should enjoy viewing together. The dogs are beautiful and "act" quite well; Gilles Payant, in spite of the hard to decipher French accent, brings an innocent joy and commitment to his role; Janette Bertrand as Theresa, the housekeeper, is fitfully feisty and endearing; and Walter Pidgeon is good in his transformation from heartless showman to caring father figure.Unfortunately, the characterizations are merely anecdotes to the lush scenery and shenanigans of boy and dog, and result in a tedious, sometimes dull narrative. However, it's heartwarming and enjoyable.Certainly not one of Disney's best but a refreshing tale in this day of special effects and low moral films. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE DUOS BEST FILM YET!
Made in 1953, The Caddy was the best Martin & Lewis film to date, showing off both men's talents to the best of their ability.Again there isn't whole lot of plot to their films, merely plot elements that frame the two star's unique talents. This time Jerry is caddy Harvey Miller to Dean's Joe Anthony, who is a pro golfer.Well, Harvey of course causes utter havok on the golf course, annoying everyone, including pro golfers Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson, playing themselves.Utter craziness 30 years before the next great golf movie, "Caddyshack" would come along.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Martin/Lewis
This is definitely one of their top movies together. This and The Stooge are right there together. Here is classic Lewis/Martin humor.Good, clean fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun to just watch frightened people
I think it's irrelevant whether or not the places visited are haunted even at all, but since it's mentioned a lot here, i'd like to say it's very unlikely. There's no way they could get that much paranormal activity from every location they visit, on every show. So the producers enhance the families experiences, with a little special effect and a lot of psychological influence.
4-0 out of 5 stars Survivor Meets Poltergeist
Contrary to a previous reviewer's commentary, this is not "hokey comedy", and other errors in the commentary seem to be based on a lack of understanding of the technical processes used to create the show ("black hats turning white", etc.).
1-0 out of 5 stars Hokey comedy at its best!
After reading the other reviews here I thought this would be a terrific spine-tingling compilation of scary stories...but rather than producing chills, it produced gales of laughter from me and my husband. The backstories of all these "haunted" places are very intriguing, and some of the footage is interesting, but the people who do the investigating are obviously hamming it up for the cameras, the special effects are obviously staged, and they try to use lighting to make things look spooky, but with hilarious results--such as having people point flashlights up from their chins, a la Blair Witch. It's so obviously staged that one scene [SLIGHT SPOILER] shows a girl entering a spooky tunnel from the back, and her cap is black. When it shows her from the front, pointing the light up from her chin, her hat is suddenly white. Back and forth it goes, with her hat changing colors. Many scenes of the "investigators" have the camera bobbling around as people scream, and you have absolutely no idea what they're screaming at.Often the narrator says that a person goes into a room alone, yet there is a camera following them around. And why is it that all of the "investigators" are students?Because their screaming is louder and shriller than adults? The funniest thing, though, is the voiceovers by Zelda Rubinstein, the delightful little woman from Poltergeist and Picket Fences. Her voice is decidedly spooky alright, but because this video is so funny already, her "narration of impending doom" makes things even more amusing.I'd say that if you're in the market for a good frightening video, you'd be better off renting Thirteen Ghosts--or if you have access to older movies, check out Helter Skelter, In Cold Blood (with Robert Blake), or even Aliens. While "Scariest Places on Earth" is mildly interesting, the main entertainment is in how funny it is--unfortunately it's not the least bit scary. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Has it been 20 years since The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years (1988 to 1993) was a look back to the late 60's/early 70's in America and all the social turbulence of a decade we all are still trying to get over (yes, even us offspring of the hippies, etc) ... and the commentary was piercing. The show was a great look back at just how much changed during those rocky years before 80's materialism and 90's realism, and then the 21st century's come uppance. It was about the loss of innocence for an entire collective generation and kind of explained why baby boomers still seem to want to stay young. Hello ... it's been 20 years since the then 40-somethings went into nostalgia for 20 years ago. But history is seductive the older it gets.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good show - led the way for Malcolm in the Middle and many others
Wonder Years was one of the most captivating and favorite shows I've followed in the 90's. Watching re-runs on TV can bring that sense of nostalgia because the show was that impactful. It doesn't necessarily have to appeal to hardcore fans. The show contains mild comedy and that 'coming-of-age' style story that makes it one of the best dramas in 90's TV.
5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Million Stars More Like!
I must take issue with My-Linh Pham who writes "As a devoted fan of the Wonder Years, I must say that I was disappointed in this video collection. Not only is the quality poor (fading in and out, scratchiness, etc.) but there are only two episodes per video (on this one and on vol. 1)" Perhaps Ms Pham is not quite as devoted a fan as she claims. Might I remind her that the quality of any video featuring Fred Savage can never be poor and, while I can appreciate her sentiments that more episodes = more Fred Savage, two episodes of the Wonder Years featuring Fred Savages remarkable and moving portrayal of Kevin are still excellent and worthy of rather more than two stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Why NO DVD Restorations of Robert Mongomery's Films? Why NO DVD at All?
Simple - with the wit and charm and probably one of the greatest mystery movies of all time, does RobertMontgomery's Night Must Fall still remain on VHS, particularly when VHS is a dying breed - or hey perhaps they (the moviemoney makers) are selling most of Mr. Montgomery's films on VHS so people will but them and then when its announced that VHS is "dead" will they suddenly have their $29.95 digitally restored, Special Edition films of Robert Montgomery Availanle. The greed of our country is finding every little way to squeeze the bucks out of folks - from the standard and always reliable 16 oz Coke to a now 12 oz Coke-and the list of amazingly banking breaking scams continues. Lets at least leave one thing alone and thats a bit of brilliant entertainment that has seen so many people through the World Wars, Depressions, and Social Unrests by providing an affordable way of momentarily escaping the dingy dark corners of Madison Ave. .

4-0 out of 5 stars Talky but fascinating
This movie is almost 70 years old - and still keeps you going to find out how it ends! A tad bit talky - a trait of 30s movies, especially ones adapted from stage plays. But what a great bunch of acting jobs! Dame May Whitty (who played the role on stage) controls the scene as the domineering biddy in the wheelchair, but her 'frightened' scene at the climax of the movie is pure gold. Roz Russell - such a strange role for her ~ why would you put yourself in danger to see if your theory is correct? Robert Montgomery with his ever-present cigarette is mezerizing as the man who may or may not be the murderer. The supporting cast play their roles well - you may have to watch it more than once to catch all their side comments. A great old film.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll Watch Ita Hundred Times!
"Night Must Fall" is the type of movie that's great to own because you'll watch it a hundred times--it is a "chicken soup" type movie which has that intangible something which holds up under repeated viewings without getting tiresome. Perhaps because--as in other "cult" movies like "The Bad Seed", "Streetcar Named Desire", "Suddenly Last Summer" and "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"--it is a wee bit perverse. Ostensibly a rather conventional "whodunnit", "Night" surprises the viewer by introducing what must have been in 1937 a radical element--the fascination and attraction that Olivia (Rosalind Russel) feels for a cold blooded murderer (Robert Montgomery). Why is she fascinated and attacted to him? Because she's bored with her repressed existence in an isolated house with her bossy aunt, that's why!Danny's very dangerousness, although lethal, is apparently just the jolt Olivia needs to feel alive again, and she's not ready to give it up right away! So she elects to shield him so that he won't be found out. Because this plot twist was unprecedented then (and scarce in films even today), you'll have a great time watching to see how it all works out. As some reviewers have noted, "Night Must Fall" is a bit stagey but as with "The Bad Seed", I don't think this hurts it one bit. Like "Seed", it WAS a stageplay(in 1935) and featured many of the same players before being filmed by MGM (interestingly, the play's author Emlyn Williams himself played the role of Danny). It could be said that Russell seems rather wooden in her role as the repressed niece, but this appears to be the way the character is written, as a woman who is emotionally stunted. It's hard to believe, watching her, that this is only two years before "The Women" and three years before "His Girl Friday". As good as she is however, she finishes third to Dame May Whitty as crochety old Mrs Bramson and Robert Montgomery as Danny, the charming murderer! Dame Whitty devours the scenery with such finesse, and Montgomery is so subtley full of lurking menace (one thinks of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector watching him), that poor Rosalind doesn't stand a chance against them! She got her chance in only a few years however. "Night Must Fall" has it all--humor and suspense in equal parts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Rabbit Almost Stole the Movie!
I don't want to repeat what all the other reviewers have said.I know that when I went to see this movie when it first came out ( yes, I am "that" old ) I didn't have too much hope of it being a good movie.I mean it was Jerry Lewis without Dean Martin! How good could it be?Well turns out it was an excellent movie with an excellent performance by Jerry Lewis.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Has Magic!
Although Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made a great team, this movie, The Geisha Boy, shows Jerry's true talent solo.4-0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Gem of Jerry Lewis; A Japanese Fan Can Testify
Owing to Eddie Murphy remake, "The Nutty Professor" comes to our mind first as Jerry Lewis's most representative work, but it also tends to overshadow his other neglected gems, one of which is here, "The Geisha Boy."Despite its now corny title, the film has still a lot to offer for our laugh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ROBIN HOOD ALL' ITALIANA
To make a good adventure film it is not so easy, but, sometimes the magic is done. This is one of those examples. 4-0 out of 5 stars the lighter side of Lancaster
Though the plot is silly and derivative of "Robin Hood", this film makes a great vehicle for Burt Lancaster, as Dardo "The Arrow", a man who is adored by children, loved by women, and lives in a forest with his band of freedom fighters. It isn't the type of film one usually associates with Lancaster, as he won his awards and fame with serious drama; in his mid-thirties at the time, with chiseled bone structure, an incandescent smile, and an enormous amount of hair, he did his own stunts, some which are astonishing acrobatic feats.Read more

This is a fantasic movie about a pretty rough character finding the will to change his life around 100 percent after getting struck by lightening (how real this is portrayed is amazing!)I have read the book, but like the movie much more. Thanks to all who helped make this incredible story such a great movie.

This is quite simply anamazing story. It made me have a completely different outlook onhow I treat other people , and what is really important in this life. This might sound like an over- reaction to to a movie, but for me this story was like finding out the secret of life. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sing Away the War
Two Girls and a Sailor is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and features a great cast. The Deyo Sisters Patsy and Jean (June Allyson, Gloria De Haven) have been in show business their whole lives. When they grow up, they start their own canteen for soldiers and sailors from WWII to visit, have some snacks, and be entertained. Jean has a secret admirerer who gives her an old warehouse to expand the canteen. In it is an old vaudeville star (Jimmy Durante) whose career is practically over but who comes alive when he can aid in running the canteen. A large amount of soldiers frequent, especially Johnny (Van Johnson) who becomes special to both the girls.

I rate this high because it was the only movie we had on Iwo Jima. This of course when there was only mop up operations. We must have watched it 5 or more times. I will never forget that movie because of the circumstances, We were humming the song "Sweet and Lovely" for days.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't help but be amazed with June and GLoria
Really love this movie. SHame that Miss Dehaven was not in more pictures. SHe is one very tallented actress who has beauty, style, class and proved that even in the movie "Out to Sea", still has all these things and CAN STILL DANCE with the best of them. SHe really has a wonderful singing voice. Most of all...........even at this stage of her life (80 yr. old) she is just as beautiful and LOOK AT THOSE EYES and THAT SMILE!!!!It is nice to know that Miss Dehaven, Miss Allyson and Mr. Johnson have remianed friend for years. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Disney, funny, animals, nice old car
Sammy The Way Out Seal is your average 1960s Disney family-animal comedy, with several effectively amusing comedy sequences and, probably due to Norman Tokar's direction, auniquely aesthetic underwater swimming scene, as the 3 children, the seal, and a dog play in a suburban pool.Tokar directed episodes of Leave It To Beaver and several Disney movies including Big Red, Savage Sam, Rascal, and A Tiger Walks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good; clean fun.
I just wanted to write this review because this is one of my favorite silly; older; clean; family Disney films. I so enjoy good clean fun. And this one is so imaginative and humorous. Just about what could be more fun than the idea of two brothers coming home from a summer vacation with an adorable but mischievous seal and trying to keep him hidden from mom and dad? All the cast do their parts really well. I especially like Robert Culp's humor. He just so adds to the picture. I guess my favorite scenes are when the seal eats what is supposed to be a very expensive collection of tropical fish and the chaotic and humorous scene in the grocery store. Sophisticated; modern audiences may not appreciate this film; but they don't know what they're missing. Now this is good family entertainment! Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Operation Adopt-A-Seal, in a Hilarious Way!
Bill Mummy (Lost In Space), and Michael McGreevey (Snowball Express among other 70's Disney flicks) star as Arthur and Petey Loomis, two boys who are determined to have a great adventurous summer. While at their summer beach house, they discover a hurt seal. They quickly take him under their wings and nurse him back to health. They know their parents (Robert Culp and Patricia Barry) won't adopt such a wild animal, so when it comes time to go home at the end of the summer, they can't bear to leave Sammy the seal there and sneak him home in back of the family wagon.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story.
A film that celebrates life but asks questions about what is best in life, and whether we all make the right decisions. The movie centers on an absolutely wonderful performance by a 70 -odd Marcello Mastroiani, in a role that allows him the full gamut of emotions, from great joy to terrible sadness.

Matteo is a sexagenarian widow who lives by himself in Sicily. He rarely hears from his five children who moved away to find jobs and settle in the mainland. They now live in various parts of Italy: Napoli, Torino, Roma...

3-0 out of 5 stars The Most Memorable of His Films-you know-the One with "Jocelyn Lane"
Although the Elvis formula films were pretty much the same when they were released, two factors made some significantly more appealing and memorable than others; the actress playing his love interest and the songs that were incorporated into the production.
