5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie!
I have always loved this movie, of course I have always been a Jerry Lewis fan.I have never been to crazy about Dean Martin and his singing but I guess without him in some of these movies Jerry wouldn't have been so funny.Even though Jerry carries himself well without Dean in alot of movies. My kids love Jerry Lewis now! This one is the best one that they made together in my opinion!Very funny!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good performance
Really really like the paratroopers dancing around Dean Martins Singing. It's like where they left off on At war with the army. I would buy these two movies together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Martin/Lewis' best film together (I think so, anyway)
Watch this movie and look around the jump towers at Fort Benning and you'll SEE NO BUILDING 4 INFANTRY HALL which wasn't built until 1964! One thing we should remember about films like this, though they be comedies, they are often filmed on location, with help from the U.S. Army and in so doing, they capture rare moments (like a jump tower mound with no Building 4 behind it!) that are lost forever. For example, at the film's end you see Martin/Lewis take part in a mass tactical parachute jump where you see C-82 aircraft with their rear clam shells removed to airdrop jeeps and artillery pieces...this footage alone makes this video worthwhile....where else can you find it?Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!
I am a very huge fan of the movie.I recently moved from San Diego, California, and I was always able to get all Disney shows there.I have "The Happiest Millionaire" on VHS, and I cannot get anough of it.I have been in Washington State now for a little over two months.Maybe it is because I am homesick, but I am craving for this right now.I found "The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band" a few days ago, but when I found out I could have both of my two ultimate favorites together, at one time, I had to order. My Dad will get the open copy of my movie, and I will get the unopened (which is how it will stay until I cannot resist anymore)!!!Love John Davis and Lesley Ann Warren together. It is so much the match made in heaven.Anyone like her in "Clue"?...

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Family Film
This film has been MY favorite since third grade (I'm 27).It is wonderfully fun and uplifting with Great singing and dancing. In a world where cartoons can scare kids, my three-year-old loves this film.It may be long, but with all the songs, it makes for a fast watch. Also the story is simple enough that children can turn it off one day and watch more the next.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Unusual Find
How often do you find a millionaire that is actually happy?Well, Fred MacMurray shows that if you can be yourself, regardless of your money, then you can be happy.

Editorial Review

This subtle and deeply moving film about the life of athlete Steve Prefontaine (Billy Crudup) is a rarity: a movie about the beauty of youth, as opposed to a patronizing, junk-culture youth film. 3-0 out of 5 stars Story of an Overachiever in Sports.
This film documents the training and durability of Steve Prefontaine from Oregon to become a track star who overcame all odds to win.In his early live, he had been picked on by bullies because of his mother's nationality so, like Forrest Gump, he had to learn to run fast from those crass youngsters. When he finished high school, he was courted by several universities but chose to stay in his home state to be trained by Bill Bowerman at the University of Oregon.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very good bio pick of a great runner who died too young
Steve Prefontaine, a record setting middle distance runner, won all his races against Americans. He led his race in the 1972 Olympics but faded to fourth by a breath. He died in a car accident (drinking was involved, but to what degree is debated) in 1975 at the age of 24.All admit that he wasn't the perfect physical specimen for a runner, but he was gritty and tenacious and would not give anything less than everything he had.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This is such a great true story of a man that we can all look up to.Prefontaine was an amazing runner who was the holder of every American distance-running record from 2,000 to 10,000 meters. The cast is top quality and the story will make you clue yourself to the seat so get some pop corn and a drink before you start because this is an amazing movie about a man who was spectacular. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The classic "Eye of the Beholder" and deadly Talky Tina
"The Eye Of The Beholder," a classic Twilight Zone episode written by Rod Serling, tells the story of Janet Tyler, a woman whose hideously deformed face has made her an outcast all of her life. Now she faces her eleventh and final operation in a last chance to look normal. Maxine Stuart plays Janet under the bandages, and Donna Douglas plays her as revealed. This is one of the show's finest episodes, although probably more people have seen the Saturday Night Live takeoff than the original. Then we have Telly Savalas as Erich Streator, who is threatened by a "Living Doll" in this episode written by Jerry Sohl. Erich does not like the Talky Tina his wife has bought for Christie, his step-daughter. However the doll, voiced by the great June Foray (the voice of Rocky J. Squirrel), tells Erich she hates him too. A gripping episode since Talky Tina never talks when anybody else is around. Poor Erich. An above average Zone episode and while I would not have thought of putting this particular pair together on the same videotape, it is certainly one of the better volumes in this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars My name is Talky Tina and I will Kill You.
Those words spoken by a Living Doll who protects the young daughter of a cruel step father played by Telly Salavis in "Living Doll", one of the most frightening episodes of the Twilight Zone, and scored with suspenceful music by Bernard Herrman. The next episode after that "Eye of the Beholder", penned by Rod Serling, is a statement of what it means to be ugly or beautiful when a woman wakes up on some world in the future or the past (It's never revealed) where her face stands out in a world where the other human faces look vastly different. The erie atmosphere of the story is also added by the strange haunting (and yet somewhat hopeful) music again scored by Bernard Herrman.A must of for any Twilight Zone fan's video collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Is Not What It Appears to Be
Your heart kind of goes out for Telly Savalas in LIVING DOLL. As much of the no-good creep of a stepfather he is you just gotta feel bad for this guy as he gets outdone by a doll, Talky Tina. The doll is almost as evil as he is and this becomes very evident in the final scene at the bottom of the living room staircase. A lot of the ambiguous feelings the viewer feels is the result of Bermard Herrmann's innovative score. It has a childlike quality that taunts and teases both Telly Savalas and the viewer. This is an excellent episode from the 5th season and the entire series for that matter. THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER also taunts the main character and the viewer. The suspense of what lies beneath those bandages is unbearable. This story is not only a parable of beauty being in the eye of the beholder but makes a strong statement on fascism. Bernard Herrmann's score once again is on target as his rather ominously suspenseful scoring pulls in the viewer for a twist of fate. THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is another excellent episode. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Colorful and interesting example of old-fashioned westerns.
Canyon Passage has almost everything you'd want in a western, from technicolor scenery to great character actors for comdy and musical sidekicks. The story's not particularly gripping, but original enough to be interesting.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Plot Driven Western
I didn't have much in the way of expectations when I started to watch this film, so I have to say I was pretty surprised by how good it was.Dana Andrews stars as a cowboy/businessman in 1850's Oregon who is in love with Susan Hayward, the fiancee of his friend, a reckless gambler played by Brian Donlevy.Andrews has to look out for Ward Bond, a violent wanderer who seems bent on killing him.Toss in some Indians, beautifully photographed scenery, other love interests and subplots, and you have a good story that ties all of the elements in together, providing enough action, drama, and romance to keep any viewer satisfied.Plus you have Hoagy Carmichael moving about singing several songs. What more could you ask for? ... Editorial Review

A man runs through deserted night streets, stalked by the lights of acar. It's a definitive film noir situation, promptly sidetracked--yet curiouslynot undercut--by real-life slapstick: watching over his shoulder forpursuers, the running man charges smack into a lamppost. The figure thathelps him to his feet is not one of the pursuers (they've oddly disappeared)but an anonymous passerby, who proceeds to escort him for a block or two, geniallyschmoozing about the mundane, slow-blooming glories of marriage. The GoodSamaritan departs at the next turning, never to be identified and never to beseen again. And the first man--who, despite this evocative introduction, isnot even destined to be the main character of the movie--immediately resumeshis helter-skelter flight from an as-yet-unspecified and unseen menace.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Rich men do get their way--often as not."
If you are a fan of British television costume dramas, then "The Mill on The Floss" should prove to be a satisfying find. Based on the novel by George Eliot, it's the tale of Maggie Tulliver's attempts to satisfy the demands of love and duty through the relationships with the men in her life. When the film begins, Maggie and her brother Tom are children living at the Mill House on the Floss River (hence the title). Their belligerent, stubborn father Edward Tulliver (Bernard Hill) makes a lifelong enemy of the lawyer Wakem (Nicolas Gecks) when he becomes entangled in a legal dispute with a neighbor over the issue of a new dam. Tulliver wins this initial lawsuit, but the ominous threat of losing the mill remains.
5-0 out of 5 stars 1997 vs 1978
The 1978 miniseries is over 3 hours long. The 1997 movie is 1 hour and 45 minutes long.Yet, every event in the 3 hour version is in the shorter version. The reverse, however, is not true.Five crucial events of the story are visible in the 1997 (shorter) version but are missing from the 3 hour version:
3-0 out of 5 stars The cliff notes version of a classic

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Cool Show!
Even though I have not seen this show since Nickelodeon stopped playing the reruns a few years back, it was a show I really enjoyed and watched every time it was on. It is a lot more well, realistic than the 70sversion, even though it still isn't realistic. If you have never seen theshow here is a quick summary: Tom Porter is taking his two kids Kevin andAnnie on a camping trip. On the way there is an earthquake (?) and the fallthrough the ground. They end up in a land filled with Dinosaurs and REALLYstrange creatures. This world has three moons and some friendly creaturesthat make friends with the Porters such as Stink and Tasha. There is also agirl there that says later in the series that her family found a way homewhen she was eight years old, and she was left behind. She had made friendswith some of the creatures the Porter's feared most, which was good. Wefind out that their mother was dead. They have many adventures in the"land of the lost" and to my knowledge they never made it home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Man from uncle are great
The first one is a little more wild than i like but the second on is the best I have seen. They are great guys I like it that the good guys always win at the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars George Sanders steals Vol 2 in great dichotomous style
Why 5 stars you may ask? This volume really shows us the dichotomy that existed between the First and Second Seasons of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." television series. "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." was a great extension of the James Bond cinematic phenomena created in the 60s. "The Gazebo in the Maze Affair" and the follow-up "The Yukon Affair" couldn't be more different in tone. But that's what made this series so dynamic. George Sanders steals both episodes.

4-0 out of 5 stars An UNCLE classic
The first show on this video is the sparkling Gazebo in the Maze affair, featuring the talented George Sanders as Squire G. Emory Partridge. This one is a classic example of how good this show was to begin with. The dialogue is crisp, and not to be missed are Jeanette Nolan's wacky Edith Partridge and Leo G. Carroll in biking attire! Written by Dean Hargrove, who should've done more episodes, this one has the kind of dialogue in it that made the show so popular. Illya is kidnapped by the Squire, who has a grudge against UNCLE, and it's Napoleon to the rescue (well, sort of, since he promptly gets captured as well). The classic line from this one is when they are escaping through the maze, while being chased by a gamekeeper and a very large, nasty looking wolf. When the gamekeeper accidentally is attacked by the wolf, Illya murmurs, "bon appetit!" Definitely a keeper!Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Why did I use to like this?
In the 1970s, Jerry Lewis movies were sporadically shown at 8 p.m. on New York station WNEW. At the time, I enjoyed these prime time showings, like this movie, "That's My Boy," and "Don't Give Up the Ship." How times have changed. Watching some of these movies today is downright painful. (Actually, all of them probably are; I just haven't seen them all recently.)
2-0 out of 5 stars Jerry can do better
While many people have written off Jerry Lewis as a vulgar and unfunny celebrity whose fame seems unwarranted, I believe that the man has comedic talent - and occasional brilliance - but that he needs to be reined in with strong directors and scripts. When set free and loose, Lewis can be as manically annoying as Robin Williams and seem like nothing more than an adult with attention deficit disorder in serious need of medicine. When reined in and forced to tone down the volume on his antics and perosonality (someone needed to tell Lewis that simply making a lot of geeky facial grimaces and spastic movements does not constitute comedy), he is capable of developing his ideas into good comedy that elevates him from being yesterday's Adam Sandler to Laurel and Hardy quality status. Lewis also needed to be told that a Chaplin or a Keaton he would never be (Lewis was far too vulgar and not intelligent enough) but that there was nothing wrong with developing his own character of the schmo.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, but is something missing?
I love Jerry Lewis movies, but upon viewing this Dvd version it seems that something has been cut out. My wife says she is almost sure there was more interaction between the Princess and "Fella". The Princess says she loves Fella in the end, but they have only really seen each other at the Ball. I'm not sure, maybe I just don't remember it as well as I thought. I still think it's a great movie that is good for family viewing. My Kid's and I loved it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best film ever made about LA
Ten years after its release, Steve Martin's LA Story has a cult following for its adept interpretation of vapid and decadent Los Angelinos. Though LA Story came out in 1990 and seems to lampoon the 80s, Michael Tolkin goes way beyond his collaborative work with Robert Altman(The Player) with this pitch black comedy.1-0 out of 5 stars maria ellingsen wasted- i got lost watching it
This film is a mess. It features a load of stars and made no sense at all. The great Icelandic actress Maria Ellingsen appears once or twice and is her exceptional skills are wasted in this mess. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A brisk stroll through Yuppie hell
Michael Tolkin's "The New Age" was the most scathing movie indictment of the American dream gone Sonoma catalog since Albert Brooks' brilliant satire "Lost In America". "The New Age" re-teams the "Tracy & Hepburn" of indie film, Peter Weller and Judy Davis, who were also the wacked-out couple in "Naked Lunch". Instead of heading off in an RV to go "find themselves", Judy and Peter decide to "simplify" thier over-extended Yuppie lifestyle by chucking it all and opening up a Beverly Hills boutique. Hilarity ensues....right? Actually, the movie takes a more low-key,sometimes cruel, black comedy approach to its subjects as they proceed to go into a tandem midlife crisis. Along the way, most trendy southern California fads are lampooned, recalling the film "Serial", which savaged the Bay Area Yuppie/New Age scene in the same fashion. Good supporting performances abound; the biggest surprise is Adam "Batman" West, who is priceless as Weller's father. West plays the wryly acerbic, aging Lothario with much aplomb.(Where has he been?!) Highly recommended. ... Read more

Editorial Review

When New York accountant Johnny Baxter (Dean Jones) learns he has inherited a Colorado hotel, he promptly quits his thankless job, packs up his dubious family, and heads west. Since this is a Disney comedy, the inn's only customers turn out to be nonpaying raccoons and its decorating motif is strictly cobweb. To make matters worse, the local banker not only refuses Baxter a loan, but tries to buy out the desperate newcomer with a lowball figure. But with the help of an eccentric squatter (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Disney 'Almost' Classic
When a cuddly baby raccoon snuggles his way into the life of a lonely boy named Sterling North (Billy Mumy), things go riotously awry as the ringtail's mischievous nature gets more and more out of control. Everyone in the small town gets to know Rascal, whether they want to or not - the bandit-masked mammal is especially fond of the eggs in the neighbor's chicken coops. Eventually, it's decided that Rascal will have to be returned to the wild. But Rascal doesn't want to go!
4-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Raccoon Lovers
If you are a Procyon Lotor lover, this film is for you. If you're looking for a classic, lively Walt Disney animal film--this one isn't it. The film follows Sterling North's book, and does it well.Yes, it seems to drag at times, and therefore does not "meet" the high action/drama expectations of today's viewers. But this film was made before the days of high-tech computer animations, and the coons used in it--are real--and therefore a true representation of this wonderful, mischievious critter. This whole film deals with a raccoon. It is not just a brief "tease" scene in a film for us raccoon lovers.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Film for Animal Lovers
Disney did a good job of incorporating Sterling North's story of "Rascal" into a film. The film version remains close to the book's story. While Rascal is mainly a children's film, it also good for viewers who love animals. The raccoon does a lot of cute things the film has a relatively happy ending. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mario excels inhis first movie
I grew up listening to Mario Lanza on radio & seeing his movies, but I had never seen his first movie, That Midnight Kiss. What a joy to watch and hear him, as well as Kathyrn Grayson. He was so young, and his weight the best I've ever seen of him.Guess he was born with natural acting talent as well as beauty of voice, because I saw no flaws in his acting--only perfect timing, expression of feeling, and enthusiasm (and, of course, that fabulous voice).A really sweet, romantic movie.Kathryn Grayson also was a favorite of mine at that time--so pretty, with a delightful voice.I think this is my favorite of his movies.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Kiss That Changed History
Mario Lanza and Kathryn Grayson speak words of love to each other and to their fans in this Technicolor delight from MGM's Pasternak unit. The Pasternak unit had more freakish talent assigned to it than the Freed unit (though there was in actual practice quite a bit of back and forth)--suffice it to say that you don't see movies teaming Mario Lanza with Judy Garland--ever wonder why not?Freed had Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Lena Horne; Pasternak had Esther Williams, Red Skelton, Jane Powell.Obviously both men made boatloads of money for their mother studio, but I think it's time for a Pasternak revival, for his pictures are by far the most fun, even though they might not be classy per se.
1-0 out of 5 stars That Midnight Kiss
Don't really know if I liked it or not, as I was never able to watch it, due to the fact that the VHS tape was so VERY POOR in quality.Noise over the sound - streaks across the picture. It was totally unwatchable.Read more
