5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale As Old As Time Done Right
Beauty and the Beast may well be the very best animated film Disney ever produced. The characterizations of the leads are great as we have the sweet book loving Belle and the the flawed but totally redeemable "Beast".Gaston and Belle's father are also well drawn and memorable as are the comic relief bearing "enchanted" servants at the castle. There's something for everyone as the story is so romantic it leaves a lot of grown up ladies sighing, the bad guys are not too scary for the little ones and for the rest it is just a great tale.Plus Beauty and the Beast has some of the best songs ever written for a Disney production. No wonder the Broadway musical hasbeen such a hit as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tied for first for best Disney feature
I must've been about 10 when I first saw the Lion King and I was practically floored. Those catchy-for-their-own-good songs, the animation(well, me now talking) and that wildebeast stampede. The other one is Beauty and the Beast which for the life of me I can't remember seeing when I was young yet loved every minute of it. Revisiting it now I still love it and on one hand seeing it as a landmark in Disney's catalogue but also one in a series of films that marked a brief creative comeback.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Beast
Yep, Disney animation. All my students see this movie at some point between leaving high school and when I meet them as university students. Sometimes, their Chinese university teachers show it to them in class. So, I thought I'd see why they love it so much. I'm still wondering. This is a two-page short story, not a film. But on the bright side, if you skip all the songs it's under an hour. I've never enjoyed a singing toon in my life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Is So Wonderful.
This Movie Is So Wonderful. I Used To Watch It. And It Was So Cool. The Movie Starts Off As Fozzie Bear And The Gang Are In The Truck. They Were Going To Fozzie Bear's Mother's House that's on a Farm. Kermit, His (kermit) Nephew Robin, And Fozzie Are Inside The Truck. And Fozzie Is Driving The Truck. While The Others Are In The Back Of The Truck. Next We See Fozzie Bear's Mother Getting Ready To Go On A Vaction When An Old Man And His Dog Came to the house. The Old Man And His Dog Were Going To Spen Christmas At The House While Fozzie Bear's Mother Goes On Her Vaction. Until Fozzie Bear And The Gang Arrive At The House Before They Came Into The House They Slipped On A Frozen Ice Patch. Once They Were All Inside The Old Man Didn't Like To Have Anyone Else Spending Christmas With Him And His Dog. Next We See Gonzo And Kermit In The Kitchen Talking To Eachother When Robin Came Into The Kitchen. Gonzo Left While Robin And Kermit Were Talking To Eachother. Until The Muppet Band Called The Electric Mayhem Were Performing In The House. After They Were Dune. The Whole Muppet Gang Heard Some Carolers. And They Were Suprised To See The Sesame Street Gang Outside. They Let Them Into The House. And Kermit Was Waiting For Miss Piggy (who i think is the diva of all divas even through she's a pig) to come home for christmas. So If You Want To Know What Happens Next. You Should Buy This Movie. It's A Wonderful Christmas Present For Your Little Boy Or Girl Who Likes The Muppets.

2-0 out of 5 stars The edited version - explained
Like many of the other reviews, this version is extremely frustrating. Some of the best scenes and songs are edited out.For those who have seen the unedited version as it was broadcast on television, you probably won't like this.If you haven't seen the edited version, you may like this. However, there are scenes that may have you thinking - "What happened?" "That was short.""Did they cut something out?"

Why isn't this on DVD yet!!!!This film has been one of my all time favorite comedies.I'll be waiting for the DVD release.Hopefully it will be soon.Martin Short is just perfect for this role. And poor Danny Glover. You could just imagine being in his character's shoes.

The editorial review by Tom Keogh couldn't be more inappropriately biased, and wrong.Don't listen to him, he was on crack at the time. This movie is one of the all time best comedies ever. And best of all, the film is not lude or gross - it is a great movie that can enjoyed by everyone.I'm trying to figure out why this movie is not on DVD?A few other good Martin Short comedies are "Clifford" and "Three Fugitives". ... Kermit the Frog as Santa Claus narrates this delightful holiday tale.Rugbythe Tiger is Jaime's favorite Christmas toy from last year.Rugby is convincedthat he will be wrapped up and placed under the tree again this year. When it's Christmas Eve and all the other toys try to explain to him that that is not going to happen, Rugby decides to take matters into his own paws and placehimself under the tree.He makes the dangerous trip from the playroom to theliving room trying not to be seen, for if a toy's secret of being ableto move when humans aren't around is discovered, it becomes frozen forever. Now all his friends from the toy room must get him back before it's too late. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Real Fan
I don't know how many times I have watched my video of this film, but I enjoy watching every time!!!It is the one video I Treasure.I love all the songs. When will it be put on DVD????

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a fairytale
I'd had this video for years and can't tell you how many times I watched. It's like watching a beautiful fairytale. The setting, the costumes, the music are all beautiful. The entire cast superb. The only disappointing thing about this movie is that Mario Lanza did not get to perform the part of the prince even though he had recorded all the songs for the movie--it's his voice you hear--and the screenplay was written especially for him.But because he had a problem controlling his weight, the studio replaced him with Edmund Purdom, whom I think did a superb job overall--you can not tell he's not the one really singing.I love Ann Blyth as the leading lady--so lovely and so is her voice. All the songs are beautiful, and Mario's voice is out of this world.I gave my video to Anthony Kearns(one of the Irish Tenors) at one of his concerts and told him they should do a remake of this movie using him as the prince (of course they would have to deal with the Irish accent). As it turns out, Anthony now sings two of the songs from this movie.I recently got another video of this movie from Amazon.com and can once again watch it over and over.
5-0 out of 5 stars ABeautiful Musical but Sad Love Story !!
I finally got the opportunity to purchase this movie, and it is the singing of Mario Lanza that blows me away . My favorites are "Beloved" , "Serenade" and "Summertime in Heidelberg", and "Deep in My Hear, Dear" , everytime I hear Mario sang those songs to Kathie , my heart just melts.Edmund Purdom does make a very handsome prince and very good lip synching too. Must of been a very tough job for him.Ann Blyth was perfect in her role as the barmaid, and what a lovely soprano voice she has!! Edmund and Ann make a great couple and they had very good chemistry working together, no wonder they did a movie together again the following year "The King's Thief" .A must watch for musical lover's fan.5 stars for singing and acting !!!! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
This movie was pretty good. I liked the witch. She is my favorite character because she is a pretty bad villain and I like villains. The parts of the movie that I liked best were the parts with the Wizard and the Munchkins.Once Dorothy and the scarecrow, lion and tin man reach Oz, it gets very interesting. You finally get to see the place they've been following the yellow brick road for. It's cool.I am six.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Version of the Wizard of Oz yet
Known to all, this is the story of Dorothy Gale and herjourney to the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. The most popular film of all time , seen by over a billion people. It's timelessness is proof enough of its value . Certainly flawed when scrutinized and written about for 56 years, but still most beloved. In 1998 rereleased on the big screen: magic. And admittedly the most important film of my life: As a child I was obsessed with the film and only a little less now.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Never Gets Old
"The Wizard Of Oz" is a film truly worthy of the title timeless. No matter how many times, you can't help but be amazed by the sense of wonder and inspiration this film creates. Even after 67 years, it's still one of the most impressive and uplifiting moments in cinema.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Somebody has to go to jail, Ben."
In the film 'National Treasure,' Nicolas Cage plays Ben, a character who must save the genuine Declaration of Independence from being stolen before an assembly of greedy treasure hunters can get their hands on it. It is believed that the Declaration of Independence contains a secret treasure map, but the task of getting to it without getting stopped by security personnel is going to be far from simple. I would say that this is a pretty decent film that is worth seeing at least once or twice. It is from Disney, has a PG rating, and contains plenty of watchable action sequences and educational references. If you are a fan of this film and own a Sony PlayStation Portable, then you are in luck, as the film is available on the system's UMD format, making it accessible to 'National Treasure' fans on the go.
5-0 out of 5 stars YAY BILL!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars All in all, I really liked it
I mean, it's not a movie that I would typically choose to watch myself, but my SO and the kids wanted to see it, so I agreed. It's kinda cute, little romance, little action, some bad acting by Nicholas Cage (but what else is new there?) and a little humor. Over the top in some places, but that's part of its charm.

While he's there he meets and befriends a young boy (Lucas Black) and his widowed mother (Natalie Canerday) whom has trouble with the abusive boyfriend Doyle (Dwight Yokem) as it suddenly remindes Karl of his horrific past.
5-0 out of 5 stars IS ALREADY A CLASSIC
The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that director/actor/writer Billy Bob Thornton (BBT) will never top it.Watch the included extras on Disc II of this release (over three hours worth) and you'll see that BBT agrees with that prediction."Sling Blade" is simply a GREAT movie, already a classic. It is better each time I watch it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I Watched The Movie And Read The Book!
Based on a book by the same name by Bette Greene this isa good movie about a 13 year old Jewish girl growing up in a rural southern town during World War II,a town that has a prisioner of war camp for German POWs and the girl who is nmaed Patty comes from a dysfunctional home in which her fat slob father is an abusive drunk who hates her and is constantly beating her and her mother is an uncaring wimp who also doesn't care about her daughter yet they love and spoil Patty's little sister Sharon and the only love Patty receives is from the family's black housekeeper and than Patty meets an escaped German POW who it turns out was forced into the German Army and hated Hitler and she strikes up a friendship with him. This is a sad but good movie but can be very controversial. The cast for this movie includes Kristy McNichol as Patty, Bruce Davidson as Anton the escaped POW, Ester Rolle as Ruth the housekeeper, Michael Constantine as Patty's father, Barbara Barrie as Patty's mother and Robin Lively as Patty's little sister Sharon. BTW' a Previous reviewer says she watched this movie in black and white, but this movie first aired on TV in 1978 and isacolor movie so she must have watched it on an old black and white TV set...... This is also a book and I think I actually saw the movie first and than read the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Georgia verisimilitude
This a a sweet and tender little movie that conveys a tangible sense of what WWII-era rural Georgia may have been like geographically, culturally, and emotionally with regard to the war.I viewed it recently for a third time over about a ten year period, and it still came across well.4-0 out of 5 stars really sad and dramatic(spoilers warning!)
This is a really nice movie even though i saw it in black and white i thought it was interesting. And the part where patty's father beats on her is really sad.Its not as good as the book though, theytook out some characters and some parts like at the end she didnt go to the camp for bad girls or whatever like she did in the book. But i think you'll enjoy it anyhow! ... Hesitation over the title of this review was purely for consideration of people who might have taken offense at the use of homosexuality in the traditional role as a comedic device for dehumanizing people. In this Fantasy Fashion Designer Barbie role play kit, we are presented with two suspect homosexuals, the flamboyantBlack assistant fashion designer, and the quarry closethomosexual who has to have his disorder pointed out to him, preferably in an embarrassing public denunciation.Barbiehas tolearntheneed for her toscriptandtypecast sexuality aroundher because she is the sensation (fem fatal) for persuasion predominant in the sphere of people around her.A Countrified Fantasy Fashion Designer Barbie Killer Instinct--role play kit. And it is perhaps an interesting microcosm of analysis to vaguely note the teddy bear appeal assigned to the openly gay Black character, artistic, talented and unflinching. It is the idea that for women, gay men make the best friends, that I won't quote yet I seem to have heard it somewhere in the cultural media stream at some time in the past. Thus a possible depolarizing of "sexual prowess" is covertly used to adjust traditional racial stereotypes, (and that term is taken straight from multicultural theory). Further complicating the plight of the Black male character in the film, is the Civil War reinactment-buffooning in the presumably lingering prejudicial South, where no doubt the image of African Americans as sexually iconoclastic, bandages woundedWhite male libido traditionally injured by jibes of phallic innuendo.Surely considerate people everywhere are tired of this dredging up of unpleasant or bawdy associations; circumcision is perhaps the original anthrospecific-insult (precursor to sexual dysfunction then marital dysfunction and the whole syndrom of social ills that erode social fabric from its core) but anthropologically the film is enriched elsewhere.
3-0 out of 5 stars A simple country girl.
Sweet Home Alabama tries to be a cute and funny romantic comedy but just ends up falling a few centimeters short of brilliant. Reese Witherspoon plays Melanie, a fashion designer who resides in New York but now she must go back to the state she was born and raised, Alabama and must find her husband to get a divorce as soon as possible since her new boyfriend has proposed marriage to her, but unknown to him he doesn't know about Melanie's marriage to a good ole country boy back in sweet home Alabama. Her husband is played by the very hunky Josh Lucas and the soon to be finacee is played by Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey. This film has some sweet and tender moments and I think the orginal ending to the film was better but the director, Andy Tennant was told to change it because the ending was considered too depressing, Tennant explains in further detail in the special features section. Witherspoon can make any mediocre film seem better than it actually is, a so-so film, decide for yourself on this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mary-Kate & Ashley remake Parent Trap [2.5 stars]
If you've seen Parent Trap (either verion), you've see It Takes Two.It is incredibly predictable.Even so, the girls are cute and the story line has plenty of fun and mischief built into it.Pre-teen girls will especially like this movie. There are some elements for adults - at least parents of children - to enjoy.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great family movie!
I remember this movie from when i was younger. I really loved the olsen twins so i am purchasing all their movies to re-live my chilhood! They are such funand great to watch as a family! And if u don't have kids they're great to watch by yourself...they're corny but great movies!!!

    Editorial Review

Giuseppe Tornatore's beautiful 1988 film about a little boy's love affair with the movies deservedly won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film and a Special Jury Prize at Cannes. Philippe Noiret plays a grizzled old projectionist who takes pride in his presentation of screen dreams for a town still recovering from World War II. When a child (Jacques Perrin) demonstrates fascination not only for movies but also for the process of showing them to an audience, a lifelong friendship is struck. This isn't just one of those films for people who are already in love with the cinema. But if you are one of those folks, the emotional resonance between the action in Tornatore's world and the images on Noiret's screen will seem all the greater--and the finale all the more powerful. 5-0 out of 5 stars Both cuts
The new special edition of Cinema Paradiso, coming this november, features both cuts of the film. The theatrical one and the director's cut. So buy it immediately!

5-0 out of 5 stars en la paradiso of the genre
I first saw Cinema Paradiso on a small screen (24?") T.V. in the shortened original VHS for theatre distribution version. O.K. A number of years later, I was fortunate enough to see the Director's Cut on the big screen. Before or since, I never have shed tears like that in the theatre. Not only for the sadness... but for the sublimity.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this version! You must get the director's cut!
I'm giving one star not for the film but for this version only. The director's cut has more than 50 mins additional footage which is vital to the story and was cut to make the film more acceptable to cinema audiences. With these additional scenes, this is an excellent 5-star movie but otherwise, viewers will be unsatisfied. The main bone of contention is that the Elena relationship is not properly resolved in the shorter version so you'll be left wondering how it all turned out. Take my advice, pay a little more and get the full-length version. You won't regret it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A MODERATELY ENTERTAINING FILM...
This is a pleasant little Hallmark Hall of Famefilm based upon the book of the same name by Olive Ann Burns. It a film that takes place in a very small, sleepy southern town around the turn of the century where an elderly gentleman, a Mr. Blakeslee (Richard Widmark), runs a general store in which he employs avery attractive, middle-aged milliner with the unlikelyname of Miss Love Simpson. She is an outsider and a non-southerner, an attractive independent woman who is looked at a bit askance by the town's residents.3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, fairly entertaining
Dunaway produced this one herself after a string of lousy flops that had no artistic value at all, and I mean a loooong string of them.Cold Sassy Tree isn't too bad.It was made for cable. It has a fairly tight script and a good cast. She and Wildmark fall in love in a small town in the South. He is an old widower, she is either a widow or a spinster, I cannot remember which. His family disapproves. They forge ahead with their love and at the end, everyone is happy. This is post-face work for Dunaway, I think Beverly Hills Madam was the last we saw of the original Dunaway face, sadly.Nevertheless, this is a good movie. It is not something to watch over and over, but it's good for a single sitting.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read The Book!
This is a wonderful novel. It is one of my favorites, so I was expecting great things from this video.I don't know why, because, with the exception of To Kill a Mockingbird, the movie never measures up to the novel. This one is even worse than usual. The characters are very poorly developed, the story has been changed somewhat--and not for the better. It has none of the warmth and humor of the book.I was disgusted with my choice and wish I had the money back! ... Editorial Review

Bill Bixby plays a 19th-century gambler who inherits responsibility for three orphans, but the kids in turn have something of value: a huge gold nugget. This Disney film from 1975 is an enjoyable potboiler with its sentimentality under control and the accent on laughs, most of which are provided, not unexpectedly, by Tim Conway and Don Knotts as thieves who want to get their hands on the treasure. An easy, safe film for children. You can't go wrong with this.Read more

I order video's from Amazon quite frequently and am always satisfied with their quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dumpling Gang is aDisney live-action classic
The Apple Dumpling Gang is a movie Disney made when for whatever reason they were straying temporarily away from animation and making more live action movies. And truthfully a lot of good(not great, but good)live action family films came out of the 1970's.
5-0 out of 5 stars great family fun
I had forgotten about this movie and my son who is now 25 asked me if I remembered watching it when my children where small.I did not.He thought it would be worth finding. So was very happy to find it on amazon.com along with some other oldies that both kids remembered. My kids were thrilled when they watched these oldies again. I also know that these good, funny movies will be watched by my grandchildren.pw ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Classics
This video contains what are perhaps the two best-known and loved TWILIGHT ZONE titles, "Time Enough at Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."The former episode stars Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller named Henry Bemis.Scolded by his boss and his wife for being "a reader," Bemis retires to the bank's vault each day during his lunch hour to indulge his passion. One day while he is reading in the vault, a nuclear explosion happens and the earth is turned into a wasteland.Stumbling upon the remains of a public library, Bemis declares that now he has all the time in the world to read - but does he really?Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last" is whimsical though ultimately tragic, with similarities to both "The Obsolete Man" (also with Meredith) and "The Lonely."

Time Enough At Last - A sole survivor of a nuclear war is all alone in its aftermath. First, he finds solace in books. However, after he breaks his reading glasses, he is lost.

If you like westerns, this is a must. Gets better with each viewing.L'Amour's input in the making ensured correct clothing, guns and other props for the time period+++++++++++++++++

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally on DVD
I waited a LONG time for this to come out on DVD. This is one of those rare 'Modern Era' westerns. I don't classify it based on being a movie or being made for TV, because a great western needs no classification, it stands by itself as this does. Next to Lonesome Dove this stands out as arguably the finest work of that modern era of westerns.Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot were of course BORN to play in this format. It is just too bad there aren't enough opportunities anymore for them to do that. Louis L'Amour of course has largely been responsible for some of the finest book to celluloid material ever. Ben Johnson, Glenn Ford, et; all combine their supreme talents in this one also.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Western- they were even dirty looking

In my opinion, no other spy thriller from the Cold War was better defined than that of Mission:Impossible. A great cast of characters each specialized for the government, Master of Disguise, Rollin Hand aka Martin Landau, Cinammon Carter, aka Barbara Bain and then there's Greg Morris as Barney Collier, Peter Lupas as Willie the Strong Man,Peter Graves as Jim Phelps and Steven Hill as Dan Briggs. M:I is due on DVD this September. Its about time!!!
